When it comes to watching archery-related material on RUclips it's pretty hard to beat a Chris Bee video!
Outstanding review. I'm going to try a back-tension release this year for the first time, but have not decided on which one yet. This kind of detail is super helpful in letting people know how to get the most out of their purchase.
Absolutely love the hunting videos, but this is where you shine my friend
Enjoy these 🤘🏻👍🏻
I am using it and it is an amazing release, all adjustable for your hand!
Love your stuff man!! i love getting the notifications when you upload
Glad to see that now that the hunting season is closed, you finally found the time to have an haircut 😅
He in France, my archery shop has now UV button release but a bit too expensive for me 😭
Just saw this release and was curious about it... thanks for sharing Chris, you're always someone I look to for advice on shooting my bow. Keep up the awesome work.
I use a hinge release and I love it was always told to let the pin float and just focus on rolling my wrist back to shoot. I bought a Tru fire synapse hammer throw it is a great release out of the box it was set up perfect. For hinge release I shoot a b3 ghost all white it looks nice and it will only be used for target practice. My thumb button and index finger will be used for hunting
Interesting video and interesting release. When I first (or actually 2nd time) started to shoot compound bow (leverbow), I shot it with fingers, but soon moved to mechanical release (that was the plan all the time). And from the very beginning I chose back tension release and I have shot back tension release appr. 13 years now, as the only release. I started with Carter Evolution, but relatively soon moved to Carter Attraction. That is also a 2-in-one release and it works in the same way as the Tru Ball Abyss X-tension - but is probably much more simple. If you want to shift from back tension to thumb, you just adjust the tension down, untill it goes off, when you press the barrel. I have a few times tried to shoot thumb mode, but it is just not for me. So I use only back tension mode, all the time, for training, 3D competitions or target comps. It simply works best for me. But one of the reasons why I switched to compound from recurve was that I had target panic and if I shoot the compound bow with thumb release mode, the target panic comes back after a little while. And I also cannot process the two "different" releases in the same way, as you say Chris. The Carter Evolution works in the opposite way than Attraction and Abyss X-tension and thumb trigger, as you have to press the barell in, as you draw the bow and remove your thumb, when you're ready to shoot.
I love the videos Chris keep up the good work man
Great review, I've had this release for a year now and I like it a lot. funny to see someone do a review on it.
Was a pleasure to meet ya this weekend.
Great job as ever Chris. You really had to work for this one. Take the rest of the day off lol. My hubby says the factors on this release working for you are the individual bow let-off %/back wall valley hard or spongy, and inconsistent pull weight/smoothness i.e. "form" (as with any tension release). He thinks maybe a old style clicker would help on some compound bows. He's pretty dang smart and I listen to him......sometimes. 🤣
Wicked start of the day, what’s up Chrissy boy
To many things to go wrong. No thanks
i know this was a year ago but can you elaborate
@@jordansundheim7 when you’re hunting and it’s cold too many things can just not work
this would not be a great hunting release. this is for field/roving/fita/competition. If you are hunting, use a wrist and/or hook style release.
Nice to be able to adjust for the difference between limb stops and cable stops.
Thanks for the review…mine should arrive later this week. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the letdown button.
I’ve had this release since July 2022. I hated it for the first 2 weeks while I played with the settings. Once I figured out what I like, I go back and forth between button and tension. I practice with tension, hunt/3d as a button. I think I’m going to try to use it as tension for 3D this year. The trigger is as crisp as you want it to be. My only issue is the Phillips head screws need to be kept tight as I find them loosening over time. This is my first “high end” aka expensive release and I don’t have experience to compare to others. Prior to this I used a Spot Hogg whipper snapper which was effective, but not as crisp as the Abyss XTension Flex.
Other than having to tighten the Phillips head periodically, I love this release. I’d be happy to try another release if someone wants to send one my way.
My Peak is 52 and holding is 23+
Have a Carter and it was very sensitive to angle it was held at, if you switch from thumb side to pinky it changed significantly (which made it a useful training aid, because it was so sensitive to my inconsistency)
I bought this release when it first came out and I wanted to love it so bad, but I just could not get it to shoot for me. Granted I had a higher let off fanatic 3.0, which I think was the stem of my problems. But I even tried it as a button and the mechanism just felt so grimey out of the box that I had to get rid of it. Im back to using my stan sx3 like a tension release. It's the best that I have used. So far.
Great to see you doing some more unboxing. It's definitely helped me through the buying process. Seeing you go through the product. Especially if it was something I was on the fence about buying.
same style
I'm not used to tension
Good enough to use as a trigger I like the Samsung hook
That thing looks dangerous 😂
I have the stands resistance release it's a little less complicated It cured my target panic now I'm back to my Scott longhorn micro pro hinge
Only ever shot a wrist strap and I have a pretty high quality one by b3 archery and I see all these cool looking hinges and back tension releases but they all look so prone to failure I’ve just never made the jump
Still have yet to use a handheld release, but it’s always cool to see the innovation.
me neither, still use my trophy ridge
When is the ultra view grip 2 gonna be released?
Chris, I have wondered this for too long not to ask now. When you draw your bow, you look up at what appears to be your top cam. What are you looking at or why do you do this?
Love your videos and I have learned so much I want to thank you!
He did a separate video about this, it's something to do with seeing how the string aligns with the cam at full draw. Basically he's checking to see if he's torqueing the grip. .
Been shooting the abyss flex for a few months now. Absolutely the best release for me that I have shot.
Any tips on a beginner for elk bow hunting in Oregon? Should I get a tree stand or should I stalk the elk?
Seen a few of your videos , I know this is off topic .. but want to know what holder do you use that holds your binos , leupold range finder . Wind indicator …
That’s crazy, I just got a ultraveiw hinge 2
I've tried the abyss flex ( the old one & the brand new one ) but both just misfire. but the good thing is, i can still use the new one, cuz it have a "safety lever" so I just press the lever while I'm drawing my bow.
*I used the old abyss flex for like 6 months, and it started misfire. but the new one (abyss xtension) just misfire from the first time I used it.
I will forever use the traditional 3 finger glove lol nothing fits better than that.
I bought a UV button release yesterday 😁😁
That release looks dangerous to me when trying to let down. Great idea , great attempt.
Love your content !, that's alot of holding weight for Hunting NO ??
I have a question. I’ve noticed you look at your pulley part or top limb of the bow why is that?
Did you shoot the Lancaster classic this year?
Carter attraction has done this combination already
Did you shoot at the Iowa deer classic this weekend?
Think I'll stick with my UV Hinge 2!
Love the vidio
My UV thumb button just started getting a lot of play in the trigger
No Vegas or Lancaster video
Ever since becoming paralyzed from racing motorcycles I haven't been able to shoot a bow in over 30 years. That said, I've never heard of tension releases before. I had a button release that I used. I can't wrap my head around a tension release and why anyone would want that. I don't know if there was any tension releases 30 years ago. I do know bows and equipment have come a long ways since then and I hate I can't shoot them anymore!
I’ve had this question, is there any other grip that you can buy for a mission hammr and not the stock one?
NO
Looks like a great release for target and competition shooting, but I would not want to hunt with it. I have been shooting a Winn Trigger release for to long to make the switch. I also can't justify shelling out almost 300.00 for a release. Great review and explanation of the product.
Been shooting a polished Carter Evolution since it came out. That release seems to have a much longer length to the hook than a Carter. That let down procedure is dumb and too risky for my tolerance. Let downs take place when muscles are at their weakest, seconds matter and mistakes can’t happen. Carter definitely figured out the proper safety years ago. They even made a copy with a thumb trigger. Why do you need both functions in the same release when you can just buy 2 releases. I’m failing to see what makes this better than a 15 year old Carter Evolution. It definitely has more parts, I’ll give it that.
Chris, I've noticed that when you draw your bow back you seem to look up at the top cam before you get yourself set for the shot. Is it part of your routine?
Yeah, I've noticed that too
Checking to make sure he isn't inducing any torque into the grip, using the tracking of the string off of the cam as a gauge.
@@dirtjunkie2749 thank you for replying.
Nice concept but I'll stick with my hinge.
Chris, I've noticed you always look at your top cam while coming to full draw. Any particular reason?
This thing has some serious potential, but also some glaring issues.
1) That letdown mechanism needs major revision to be more intuitive and safer. Ideally squeeze and hold the thumb barrel to go hot, simply let off the barrel to re-engage safety.
2) The screws all need to be standardized to a common driver type and size.
3) The hook should be closed so the release can be clipped onto a D loop. Big deal breaker for many hunters.
the Jesse Broadwater's series are target releases nothunting releases, but i agree on the 2nd point, love my tru-ball releases but(even though once setup you almost never touch em) the need for 3 different tools to adjust them is annoying
@@sadladder fair point about being intended for target shooting. Unfortunately there is not yet a hunting release out there with button AND tension activation (hint hint Truball)… Curious what are your thoughts or experience with this letdown lever?
Maybe for target
Too many worries. If you’re walking through the woods looks like it might be sensitive. I don’t know you tell me.
😂 Spoke too soon
Does it click?
Way too much going on for Me!! I think it would give me anxiety!!
I think if you already have a thumb release you better buy a hinge release that only has this function!
I think it is a too complicated release where you quickly get problems with a little dirt in the mechanism
Is a tension release same as a hinge release?
From what Ik about releases, a tension fires through the amount pressure that is put into it, and a hinge fires through rotation. But it’s almost the same idea.
That’s a lot to digest. Too much going on with that release for my personal taste, not saying it’s a bad choice by any means, just not for me.
Does Lancaster deliver to Australia?
Yes, but the current exchange rate and the ridiculous postage rates that Lancaster charge, make it 110% not worth it.
Good night. Too much going on there.
Way to much to go wrong here
Thats what I'm thinking.. no thanks
I love this release now that I have it setup properly but it cost me over $500 after the dentist visit to fix my chipped tooth…….😂😂😂
ouch
Yeah, I’m not one for instructions and of course my wife was happy to rub it in my face!! Make sure to NOT set the trigger travel too short when using as a tension or else it’s essentially activated.
I think it would be best to leave it as a button
Why do you look at your top cam when your draw?
Looking to see if the string is tracking straight off of the cam, let's you know if your inducing torque into the grip.
"That's all you get with this release" proceeds to sell and ship his UV with squat, price at $300+ and charge for every "accessory" 😂 that's not knocking the UV at all. Just found it humorous is all.
To many moving parts = bad for bow hunting
To much going on and to many moving parts pass for me
One of the worst releases I have ever owned. Couldn’t wait to get rid of this one.
Possibly the worst release ever made. Thumb trigger mode is sloppy and definitely not crisp. Tension mode is inconsistent like other models out there
This thing is truly a 100% failure. Can’t believe Jesse put his name on it. Way too much on adjustment needed.
Will Biden pay for my Uni loan to learn how to use this thing ?
haha fjb
Nope
