  • The release hand is such an important part of accuracy with archery. The thumb has the ability to completely change the hand shape and more importantly- how you will anchor at full draw. In this video I show you the important details of the thumb movement while shooting archery with a handheld release.

Wow. This literally solved my biggest problem. I've been tucking my hand behind my ear all this time.

I just learned why my consistency goes to crap when I start getting tired and gripping my release too much. Thanks for the inspiration!

Really appreciate the constant lessons. Over the years I've been incorporating these while I'm out shooting with the boys. It has helped my ability to stay consistent. As well pushing myself for harder longer shots

Wow mindblown. I was always wondering why my anchor point never settled well with my handheld. Just watched this, slowly adjusted my thumb release with my shot trainer and now my anchor point is settling well and I don’t feel my knuckles rolling around on my anchor point. Mahalos 🤙🏽

I noticed how you were moving and using your thumb between silverback and nock2it in one of your vids this winter, pretty much this exact thing, it has helped out SO much going back and forth between releases. I feel more comfortable and confident than ever. Thanks and good luck to all those lookin to knock down bears!!

THIS! Thanks Dudley, I’ve been trying to figure out what’s been going on with my anchor. I was dumping the thumb so my hand was stretched out and my thumb was way back and low so when I’d reach out to put my thumb on the barrel I’d create a fist which would kick my elbow out to straighten the wrist. I can’t wait to try this. You the man.

Great lesson. I switch back n forth between my silverback (practice) and my nock2it (hunting season). The thumb shouldn't change the architecture of the hand with either. Going to re-explore my technique. Thanks for the tip, John.

There's bunch of insane archers like K.Douglas with trigger punching technique so if you do it right your groups will be still tight.

I have used a command release since '86 and at 74 years old that is pretty ingrained. Currently, I am using a B3 Claw. Might you make any suggestions parallel to the great ones you are sharing on the surprise release? Thanks much for the great instruction. They have been very helpful. 😊

How do you get a “solid” anchor . Also , with my fingers extended like that , it puts a ton if tension in my forearm

Great video. Would you recommend the resistance release or the thumb for a first, non-index release? Thanks!

I start all my students our with our Silverback tension release because it will drill in proper form. But you can shoot our Nock 2 It with back tension as well.
