I see where you guys are coming from, but she wanted to have her name on the lease. She put herself at risk because people do break up and she could not afford that apartment by herself. She was also irresponsible with her money which put her even more at risk. She also invaded his and his families privacy by sharing that information with her friends and the internet. There are some things girls will share with each other like how sweet they are or if they do something bad, but normally you would never share private information that was told to you in confidence. The trust was completely broken and she did not immediately apologize when he confronted her about how he was feeling she doubled down. I think he was completely within his rights to leave and it said that he paid I believe a couple of months in rent already. I think with her it was best to go no contact because she probably would have just tried to gaslight him.
Not only that but with the "girls tell each other everything" i feel like that's an age thing. I remember my best friend talking about her sex life with her boyfriends constantly but once we got to our late 20s conversations like that completely stopped.
What makes it worse is that they were together for four years and this can not be the only time she’s messed up. She just finally broke the camel’s back with that last straw! What her friends did was sexual harassment/assault, didn’t matter if he was a “big man” and could protect himself. She was still ok with her sister and best friend touching her man intimately even though he was clearly uncomfortable.
Also, what’s up with the double standard from the hosts? When a woman escapes an issue like this and goes no contact, it’s perfectly ok because she has to be protected. But if a man does it, he’s a dick…no no no! He did the right thing by turning to his support group for help and understanding. The ex is clearly unhinged and he knew how she would react after 4 years of being with her
Also, something I noticed that they kinda glossed over was that she didn't just share love letters, but also extensive details about their sex life. I feel like, depending on how extensive, that could very well be equivalent to nudes and could very easily justify no contact.
I think one of the biggest issues with what happened is so many people treat men like they aren’t allowed to feel a certain way about something directly involving their daily lives and that shits not fair.
If op would have been a women nobody would have questioned her leaving and going no contact. Just because women are more physically vulnerable than men does not mean that men aren’t also vulnerable in their own aspect.
A lot of it is the way society has conditioned us over the last few decades. Men do it to other men. I thank many many years ago women were disrespected and disregarded and now for the past couple decades we’ve been doing more disregarding

That's incredibly gross no matter how you sliced it. This was a heavy betrayal. The whole scene with the girl's friends getting handsy was also really awful. Nobody should have to go through that.

Everyone conveniently forgot that she shared a lot of details about their sex life and invited her sister and friend to come on to him to have sex with him. That's why the brother mentioned the nudes and having his friends and brother come hit on her in their house and she said it's not the same cue their guys and bigger than her. Story 1 made me furious, I usually side john and sam but i disagreed with them on this story. Op is nta his gf screwed herself up by not managing her money and sharing info to the world that was supposed to only be for her and op. If she truly cared for op in the four years she'd been with op she would've known to not do what she did, i feel she's been using op during those four years and probably thought she had him wrapped around her finger and was surprised to see that he wasn't once she shared that personal information of op's. She definitely didn't respect or care about op much based on her actions and i don't blame him for dumping her and going no contact with her. (I am a lady myself) the only A-hole i saw in this story is the gf and i hope the next time op meets someone, that he makes sure that person actually cares for him and that he can actually trust that person. I do think nudes and love letters are equal and here’s why.
For men, it’s very hard with the majority of them to express their feelings so having some thing very intimate that came from a lot of thought is can be directly related to how a woman feels when she’s naked. Since women are majority of the time pressured from birth to be a certain way, they feel that their nude bodies are flawed so it’s hard for them to show anyone other than their partners their true self. Love letters come from a very raw mental state and sharing very personal family related items can definitely overstep.

@@Madybananas I can confirm. I live in Portugal and the majority of apartments/houses for rent come without furniture or appliances. It's rare that it does, and when it does, it's way, way more expensive. And you also get into the problem that you might absolutely hate the furniture and appliances and you can't replace them. Most people renting buy their own stuff and when they move out, everything is moved out to the next place they end up renting/buying. I purposely chose an empty apartment the first time I rented, as I basically hated every single furniture I saw in the ones that came furnished.
@iulia.bianca.b I can definitely see the benefits, the only appliance I've ever seen in ever single apartment I had was dishwasher. Usually a fridge comes in the apartment. And sometimes a washer and dryer. Apartments in the US feel more like Leminal spaces more than anything.

I have never ever shared personal writings like that especially without permission I even tell my bff that I will be telling my partner and they feel the same way about it lol
I will say that although me and my bf are well into adulthood and live in the same metro area, we have very full lives with jobs, school, 6 kids between us (most of them older) exes, elderly parents etc... that unfortunately since we don't live together it feels like a long distance relationship quite a bit. So noods and spicy sleepy talk occasionally is a thing, as we can't spend as much private time together as we'd like to. Just giving another perspective. Us, as middle aged adults dating can be difficult sometimes so you gotta do what you gotta do. But we also implicitly trust each other so those noods are safe with each other.
She put herself on the lease she wanted to be an adult, she bought new items not for herself but for the both of them to share, she just wanted to have nice things with him. She trusted him, she loved him, she put herself on the lease knowing he will be there for her.

That girlfriend seems completely unhinged. Yeah maybe he should have originally helped out financially but at the end of the day she completely disrespected him and his family and didnt care whatsoever so why should he help her when legally he actually had no obligation to? If you give people like that a quarter of an inch they will TAKE miles. From experience. Wasn't just the letters she shared. Everyone conveniently forgot that she shared a lot of details about their sex life and invited her sister and friend to come on to him to have sex with him. That's why the brother mentioned the nudes and having his friends and brother come hit on her in their house and she said it's not the same cue their guys and bigger than her. Everyone wanted so bad to be on the womans side that they overlooked that part and why the brother made that comparison.
I am a woman that enjoys videogames and I have encountered someone like the Zelda fan OP. I think it's normal for women to love video games and have lots of female friends who are gamers. It's nice since we can just talk openly about our interests together without receiving the typical female stereotype comments. I do have some chill guy friends who don't make a big deal of gender then discussing games, but it's a red flag when some one feels the need to say "wow female gamer" instead of just talking about the subject. From experience, those are often the people who don't really see you by who you are, but just by stereotypes or your hobbies.
A few years ago, I was playing games every evening (in person and online) with a woman who I had been recently introduced to. Everything was normal and chill until she started inviting her bf to hangout with us. I thought everything was fine until he started messaging me saying weird stuff about how he likes I'm a gamer and we have so much in common (just specfic game interests). I immediately got on a one-on-one call with my friend and told her how uncomfortable he was making me and how he gave compliments while saying not to tell her. She confronted him and he somewhat toned it down, but she still wanted him to hangout with us since he had no friends of his own. After a few weeks, she got him to confess that he liked me and she broke up with him. She and I both blocked him everywhere and continued being close friends.
That's when he started stalking me saying he knew from my particular video game interests that I was the one for him and all this bs. His now ex gf was more of a gamer than I am, but just different games and he tried to do what the Zelda OP was saying he is afraid he would do if he dated someone and then found someone else who liked Zelda more. You don't have a right to just reselct a new girlfriend if you find someone who happens to have more similar interests and you don't have a right to assume that person wants to be with you just because you like them regardless. I was never interested in this dude, but he started stalking me and writing letters to his ex about how I have more video game interests in common with him than she did and accusing her of being the reason I ran away every time he showed up where I was. No, the reason is that I was afraid of this man who thought he could claim me because I ticked off some of his stupid boxes. I guess having autonomy wasn't on his list. Also, his gf had told me owned a gun, was controlling, ans she believed he would use it to threaten me. I spent months thinking I could die on my way to or from work where he knew I would be (even tried changing stations, but hw figured it out eventually). The police had to intervine to get him to stop stalking me. All this from only knowing him through his girlfriend for 2 months before they broke up. The Zelda OP needs serious help. People are more than their interests and it's disrespectful to treat them like that.

I don't understand the double standard on Story 1 guys. Im a bit disappointed. Op doesn't have to bend over backwards to reassure her that he won't do exactly what she did to him. OP is likely legally obligated to pay half the rent, depending on where they are. A verbal agreement is binding and the fact he paid the deposit and some rent already is evidence of his intention to continue paying rent. She might have further written evidence in their commincations and witnesses she could use to sue him for his half.
What she did is awful, btw. I don't blame him for breaking it off. You can't go back after this, especially after her doubling down and handing out even more information.
1st story: OP's ex-girlfriend was the cause of their problems. If they'd been dating for 4 years, she should have known that OP would not be okay with her sharing his letters. Also, she shouldn't have laughed when her freaking sister started coming on to OP. She should have told her to back off her man. Also, she is the one who insisted on having her name on the lease. She overspent on furnishings. Then, once OP said they were done, she stupidly takes it to TikTok.
I agree that OP should have talked to her rather than using family and friends. Refusing to speak to her after 4 years is immature.
2nd story: OP is in need of therapy. Why does OP think that Zelda is the only thing that he may have in common with a girl? Maybe he could meet someone who likes the same music, books, movies and TV shows. There are many things that people can have in common. OP's going to be 80 years old and still be looking for someone who likes Zelda.

First story the man was not an ah at all. First off he didn't cut her off initially. He reached out after she sobered up and explained how he felt his privacy was violated. Her response was once you give me the letter, it is mine to share. That is such a self-centered and disrespectful view on gf's part. I get the impression that he was still being a respectful human being when he made his post and updates. He didn't trash talk her at all. Besides she was supposed to be paying half the rent but he has been paying it first few months. Sounds to me like she's only interested in saving the relationship when it would benefit her (rent). I see red flags all over the place. I applaud him for setting boundaries. I get the impression that if he gave her an inch she would drive more than 10 mi over his body
When my daughter’s started dating I told them to not date anyone that they wouldn’t want to be their mate. Everyone you date could one day become your spouse. If you are dating someone you wouldn’t want to spend the rest of your life with move on.

There isn’t anything wrong with telling your friends details about your relationship, especially if it is something you loved like the poetry they wrote for you. However you need to have good friends that you trust to NOT SAY ANYTHING TO YOUR PARTNER and make them uncomfortable. And if your partner expresses that it makes them uncomfortable, then you act accordingly if you care about them and want to make it work. My bf always tells me he doesn’t care about what I tell people about us bc it’s my relationship as much as it is his relationship. If there is anything that he one day wants to be kept a secret, he knows to tell me that.

Zelda story: my bf introduced me to One Piece bc he is obsessed with it, and at first I was watching it for him but after a while I started enjoying it for myself. He should date this new girl, intro her to Zelda, and if it doesn’t work that’s okay! Relationships often don’t work. Being hung up on it and not trying will only hold him back.

Story 1: ESH in that situation. I understand being mad. I don’t understand instant no contact for a boundary that he ASSUMED they shared. I don’t understand posting the situation on TikTok. I don’t understand breaking up with someone for sharing info you did not want shared after sharing info that another person did not want shared (hypocrisy). I don’t understand harassing people to get back someone who doesn’t want you. I don’t understand comparing sharing love letters to sharing nudes. All of these people are downright immature and should not be in relationships for now.
If theyre in the U.S. they can find someone else to take the apartment for the landlord and the landlord will have no issue with dropping their lease and just essentially transfer it to the new person. The only issue landlords have with people breaking the lease is that it takes a long time to find someone new. Alternatively, they can probably agree to just pay for 3 months to cover the time it takes to find someone new, that's usually fine.
I don’t agree with yawls opinion on the love letter story just because they did sit down and talk about it face-to-face but over the phone and the girlfriend double down and says since it was given to her, she had every right to share it even when he was trying to have a civil conversation with her and make her understand

I felt this way about a previous story they read where a guy felt like his boundaries were crossed because his girlfriend was flirting with other guys. They laughed at OP and called him insecure because the relationship was only 2 weeks old. If the genders were reversed I guarantee they wouldn't be laughing. Boundaries in a relationship should be respected. It doesn't matter if the relationship is a week old or decades old, having your boundaries stepped on is never okay no matter how old or what gender you are. If you don't want your partner flirting with others, that's a very reasonable boundary. I hate that they take the wrong side, be neutral or play devil's advocate when it's obvious who's in the right and wrong.

Imagine i come home and my man is drunk with his buddies and then his friends get handsy with me saying they never felt the way i made my bf feel and my man is just there sitting there and laughing at the whole thing.
