I have Hashimoto's also. I've had Type1 way longer but I've had Hashimoto's for a long time too. This was not boring at all. Congratulations on your new job!
Congrats on the new job Michelle! I bought that scale and I LOVE it. I found it cheaper at bed bath and beyond compared to Amazon. It was about a $40 price difference.
Thank you!! I'm so glad you love the scale too! I think it is one of my most-used diabetes tools (besides my insulin pump and cgm haha). Bed Bath and Beyond was also cheaper for me 😊
Southern Ontario has certainly been grey the last couple of months but at least it’s been warm enough to go out for a walk. That is until the last few days!! Yikes! I may have to actually wear my snow pants. Stay warm and well. Great to hear about your new job.
Yes, we have been so lucky to have the warmer weather for the beginning of January, but now this weekend is SO cold haha! I guess that is to be expected when we live in Canada in the winter. Stay well, Christine 💖
thanks for sharing Michelle! keep sharing experiences with us! not boring at all!!! and yeahh the 5-6 alarms a night I also got it and think I might be the only one...but the worse is that they are normally real! ;) not often, luckily twice pr night is enough hahaha, but it happens...is just so very useful to get to know others experiences! keep smiling and sharing positive vibes! also one here with a couple of the autoimmune thingies...
Why is your immune system so extra? ;) I'm sorry for the new diagnosis. My son has T1, my husband has MS, autoimmune diseases suck. We share your winter/covid blues here in Seattle. Extra self care is definitely a must right now. Another great video!
Haha my question exactly! Why do you need to be so extra, immune system? I'm so sorry that your son has T1D and your husband has MS - those are both such difficult diseases to navigate :(. I hope they are both doing well 💙💙. Ahhh yes I can imagine Seattle would also be quite gloomy this time of year. Take care and stay safe!!
Omg! I was diagnosed with type 1 when I was 12 and diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) at 19. Really planning on getting surgery, or doing the iodine treatment.
And sadly Addison's disease is not something that is talked about like it should be. a lot of endos don't even really know about the association between the two.😳
My girlfriend got me the Perfect Portions scale for Christmas and I love it as it really helps me to tighten my carb counting. If it wasn't for your channel I wouldn't have known about it. Glad that you made another video!!!!
The struggle is real. I got the Hashimoto's diagnosis last year. I am constantly awakened by compression low alarms. And I also accidentally used Vanilla flavored Almond milk in a casserole. It was horrible. We ate it anyway.
So funny! It’s exactly 5:45 here on Saturday as I watch this video thinking I need to start cooking dinner soon 😂 I’m going to make the cauliflower Alfredo recipe for dinner tomorrow! 💕🤤 also congrats on the new job, sounds wonderful!
Haha I'm so glad I reminded you to start cooking! I hope the cauliflower alfredo sauce turns out well for you! It definitely does not taste like the original alfredo sauce, but I still really liked it 😊. And thanks for the wishes on the new job 💜
I haven’t been diagnosed with hashimotos but I just got out of the hospital (I became severely insulin resistant causing really bad dka [I went into the hospital at 988 🤦🏽♀️]) and was diagnosed with mild gastreoperesis.. I’m doing much better now and I hope you’re doing ok ❤️
It's funny you mentioned compression lows. I am a type 2 diabetic and when I used to have the Freestyle Libre Sensor, I would also get compression lows. While I was sleeping, it would be rare for my sensor to go off because I am a stomach sleeper and the sensor would be on my arm. But if I were to be lying on my bed reading, on my phone, etc. that's when the low would go off. I wonder why the sensors do that.
Ahh yes I remember getting compression lows when I tried out the Libre a few years ago! I don't understand the science of why sensors do this.... but now I want to know haha! It's quite annoying :P
Aww I love that sweater you wore on the first day of the vlog! So cute and cozy 🤗 I love chunky/long/pockets/oversized cardigans or sweaters SO much! I have been dealing with so many lows it’s getting really tiring 😔 You guys stay warm and keep the love flowing 💕
I have had a low thyroid since I was 28 and now I am almost 76 and I did not get diagnosed diabetic till 7 years later but I know you have a challenge on your hands as time goes on.
I was diagnosed T1 at 18 and hashis at 22. I’m now 40 and have two other autoimmune diseases. For hashis, as I’ve gotten older I switched to NDT and do vitamin IVs along with B12 and D3 shots through my naturopath, which makes a big difference for me. Did your endo screen for thyroid antibodies? Too many doctors only test TSH.
I'm glad you've found something that works well for you! Thanks for sharing 💗. Yes, it was my thyroid antibodies that alerted my doctor about the Hashimoto's - they were through the roof!
Michelle, My Medtronic 670G is about to expire and I have been looking at the t-slim/G6. I cannot find any information on blood monitors that work with the t-slim for corrections? Do you have to manually put in every BS without the G6? I only wear the Medtronic CGMS sensors once a month, or so. Please let me know what monitor you use. Thanks for your videos.
Congrats on the new job, Michelle! That’s super exciting. I have the same food scale and love it too. The BB&B price is much less scary than the Amazon price in Canada 😅 Love your vlogs!
WOW! That's right! I have been living with Hashimoto's disease for almost 6 or 7 years now. It seems it's very common for people who live with T1D, maybe because of our amazing and surprising inmune system that loves attacking our healthy cells 🤣. I really felt the symptoms: fatigue, cold, bored, sleepy, unhappy... So those magical pills (thyroid hormone) help a lot!! You'll get used to it!! However, let me give you some advice about it: there's no need to drink so much water with the pills. Try to avoid grapefruit (and its juice) and soy... these can reduce the effect of the hormone. Love your vlogs! Greetings from Spain!!
I was also going to say this, about the water. Apparently it's really easy for people to choke on the pills because they can get stuck in your throat, so they recommend drinking a whole glass of water to help prevent that. But it's not required. Also, you shouldn't drink coffee for about an hour after taking them.
@@WadeChristensen Oh well.... that's the first thing I do after waiting for 20min... I drink coffe&milk...🤣. My last results were absolutely fantastic so IN MY CASE that is not necessary 😋.
@@jorgemartos I might have to change my morning routine now! I set my alarm for an hour before I want to get up so I can take my pill then go back to bed, and have coffee first thing after getting up an hour later.
Hi Michelle! Great video! As you mentioned it is very common for us to have 2 or three autoimmune diseases. Have you ever considered an Autoimmune protocol diet? also I wonder if and how your Hashimoto's treatment has affected your insulin to carb ratio? Thanks again for sharing!
Hello! Ahh I've had a few comments on this video about that diet :). I'm personally not considering it due to little scientific evidence, but the theory is definitely interesting. My Hashimoto's treatment has not affected anything diabetes-wise. All my ratios and basal rates are the same. Hope you are well 💖
@@MichelleLord Thank you! I've heard from fellow diabetics about their ratios changing when starting treatment for Hashimoto's. Here is a link that might be interesting for you! Thanks again for sharing! spectrum.diabetesjournals.org/content/19/3/148
Congrats on the new job. I saw the IG post on Hashimoto’s; I’m sorry to hear this news. Talk about stress! So did Raffi notice the vanilla? lol, take care.
T1D for 20 years. Three years ago, lactose intolerance. Two months ago, new autoinmune friend: celliac disease. And hoping my thyroid runs for a few years more as ive already have thyroid autoimmune antibodies. Both my father and Brother are also t1d and have hashimoto... Everyday is a New fight!
Oh gosh!! That's a lot of autoimmune! I've heard of people with T1D who have the thyroid antibodies, but never need to go on medication, so that could totally be the case for you! Stay strong 💗💗💗
With hypothyroid disorders, you often have trouble absorbing vitamin D. Your doctor probably does, but make sure your vitamin D level is checked. I have to take extra vitamin D (I've had hashimotos since I was little and then later was diagnosed with type 1).
I'm hypothyroid without having Hashimoto's. The doctor was very surprised and confused! I did have symptoms though; I would have bouts of being freezing cold and unable to warm up (I was also sleeping in my fluffy bath robe under layers and layers of blankets), weight gain, always tired...
Black coffee doesn't have a significant amount of carbs, but the caffeine can make some peoples' blood sugar spike. When I have a latte, I bolus for the milk and add on an extra 4-5 g of carbs to account for the caffeine. That works for me at least, but it took a lot of experimenting before I figured it out 😂
yess michelle dont worry but u must told your dr when u will get have a child I have thyroid since my birth and I take trearment almost long 20 years and before a few months I dignosd with diabets type 1 also I have GERD I can be a live with all of them its not easy but u can do it sis
Hi Michelle, Thank you so much for your videos. I've been Type 1 for almost 49 years, no serious complications...so thankful. I do have Thyroid disease but all is well managing it with Synthroid. Quick question... I noticed you like your "naked showers". I understand completely. It is wonderful to get a shower and feel free. =) But in your video it showed you still had 17 units of insulin left. Do you just throw that away? I've tried to use the provided "needles" for my pump infusion sets, to siphon the remaining out and reuse it. What do you think?
No - I never throw insulin away! I couldn't do that when I know many people, including people here in Canada too, struggle to afford their insulin. I transfer it to my next cartridge :)
@@MichelleLord Could you please explain or show us how to do that? When I try to get the insulin out of a cartridge the most I can get out is 5 units..=( Thanks a bunch!
The compression lows have been really bad for my past few Dexcoms as well! Nothing like being woken from sleep feeling like you’re in a submarine that’s going down. 😳 Glad to know it’s not just me, but hope they get a handle on it in Dexland!
@@MichelleLord I dunno; I'm T2D and my Ozempic has been so effective that I took a break from the Dexcom. I'd love to go back to a FreeStyle Libre, but we're figuring out the insurance dance for that.
@@MichelleLord I wasn't aware of the compression lows with Dexcom. I don't think I've experienced that phenomenon personally. Maybe because I wear it on my abdomen and I don't sleep on my stomach? But something I'll keep in mind.
yes a large percentage of type 1 s have a secondary autoimmune disease. Type 1 1964 MS 1999. I am on synthroid 112 mg as well. Oh life hey Michelle. take care xo I am in Alberta.
Thank you for this great video. You inspire me a lot. When will young people with diabetes be vaccinated in Canada? and are you going to get vaccinated? Thanks :)
I'm not sure when the vaccine will be offered because we haven't even completed vaccinating our frontline healthcare workers yet :( . I will 100% take the vaccine. I trust the science, and I cannot wait to have it and get back to non-pandemic life 😊
Hi Jenny! I've been trying to think of how to show this without it being a liability issue for me... I don't think I feel comfortable showing this in a video, and I hope you can understand. Transferring insulin from an old cartridge can be dangerous since the insulin has been close to your body heat and therefore the proteins could denature - leaving it less effective. Also, you run the risk of introducing bacteria in to the new cartridge. I will only transfer my insulin if there is a significant amount left (i.e. ~20 units or more). I simply do this by extracting the insulin from the old cartridge and transferring to the new with the syringe Tandem provides. BUT please be aware of the risks, and know that this is not medically-approved.
@@MichelleLord Thank you so much for your help. Yes, being diabetic for so long I do understand the liability issues and also the cautions about body temp., etc. I appreciate so much your honesty and your help. Take care of yourself and your hubby. He seems like a jewel. =) God bless you both!
My 9year old will have her 1st diaversary next month and was diagnosed with Hashimotos at the same time, but after her appointment today she is going to be put on medication for it because it is not under control. 😔
Just a tip; if you can, take the pill at night! It works WAAAAAY better when you take it like 45 minutes after eating, and not eating again for the rest of the night. I started out taking it in the morning, and had to increase to dose all the time, and then I became a member of a Hashimoto's forum online, and everyone told me to take the pill at night instead, and once I started doing that, I could decrease the dose again, and finally found a good dose for me! It really made a huge difference! :D
For me it was the other way around: first the Hashimoto diagnosis at age 14, and then the T1D diagnosis at age 20. Kinda nice to know that I am not alone (and according to the other comments, defintley not alone) :D
Probably not since there doesn't seem to be many peer reviewed studies out there. I've seen a few studies published on efficacy for IBS, and one study published for Hashimotos, but I'm not keen on changing my diet based on little scientific evidence. It's definitely an interesting theory though :) !
I use to have Graves Disease (hyperactive thyroid). Combined that with a gene alteration and Pancreatitis, it caused my immune system killed my beta cells. 2,500,000 to 1 according to my Endocrinologist. So, the doctors killed my thyroid with radioactive iodine. I get to continue to be a T1D. How come I can't win the lottery? Oh well, nothing you can do but take insulin as needed. Stay healthy and keep up your vlogs. They are informative and sometimes entertaining! :)
Hi Michelle. I’m anxious about taking a shower since I’ve had T1. I just told a friend who’s perfectly healthy and he was very dismissive. He said you just have an anxiety disorder. I was very hurt. Do you understand my feelings?
Girl don’t be. Showers are great for diabetics, I use hot showers to bring down my blood sugar sometimes or just to chill. Showers with dexcom? Use some adhesive tape (I’ll show you link soon) and pump? Same thing. You’ll be okay!! Take that shower
Thank you for your reply. You’re a ‘wealth of information’ based on your personal experience. A little reassurance can go a long way. Shower done:) Looking forward to video about covering Diabetes aids. You’re so relatable:)
Hi Sydney!! I'm sorry that your friend was so dismissive about your anxiety :(. Showers are a great way to relax an unwind, and there is no reason to be worried about taking one as something with T1D ❤️
Hi! So I have a question.. I have some of the signs of diabetes type 1. (I’m thirsty all the time and tired) but 2-3 years ago doctors tested if I had diabetes but I didn’t have. Is it possible that I can have it now?
For me the thirst was unquenchable, and accompanied by frequent urination. You basically feel like you can't get enough water in you, and it just goes straight through you. Before my diagnosis I was going to bed with a gallon jug of water to keep by my bedside and it would be nearly empty by morning. I ended up unconscious and almost died. Talk to your doctor RIGHT NOW.
Same thing happened to me 2 years ago I was tested and found out I have a under active thyroid then again 8-9 months ago i was borderline diabetic then 4 months ago I was rushed into a&e with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes.
@@MichelleLord Ive been trying to find where Richard K Bernstein says how much he is on, i remember it being alot. Its not in his book, it was in one of his youtube teleseminars. I think he said 10,000 IU a day cause hes not outside much. If i hear him say it again il link it here.
My pharmacist said that, if I wake up to use the bathroom at all after midnight, I can take my thyroid pill (hypothyroid but not Hashi) and then have my coffee upon waking. Because COFFEE!
@@MichelleLord I take Armour Throid, not Synthroid (which I think you mentioned on Insta), but I can't imagine it would be much different. And having to wait an hour before coffee was just turning me into a sad, sad bear (cold, dark Alaskan mornings just require coffee or tea!).

I hope you're doing well and im happy to have you back here. Hugs from Germany 🥰
So missed your vlogs! I'm also a Hashimoto's patient
Aww thank you! I'm so happy to be back :D! Sorry to hear that you also deal with Hashimotos. I cannot believe how many people living with T1D have it. 💙
@@MichelleLord yaa 70percent ppl have thyroid problems living wid TID
I love your videos!
Oooo my dear I have vitiligo and Hashimoto, and my 10 year old son have Diabetes tip1! Love your video, you're great person! Much love from Croatia🤗😇😍
Thank you so much! I'm sorry you have to deal with all these autoimmune diseases. You and your son are very strong! Sending you love 💖💖
@@MichelleLord thank you dear for inspiring vlog, you're also strong and great person😇
Uggh compression lows are the worst, I get them all the time when I sleep
They are so annoying right? I normally don't get them, so I don't know what has been going on. Luckily this site got better after 2 nights!
Omg! I was diagnosed with type 1 when I was 12 and diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) at 19. Really planning on getting surgery, or doing the iodine treatment.
More Videos Girl, keep us updated on your Diabetes Goals and Health.
Definitely watch out for Celiac‘s and Addison‘s disease as they are both sometimes associated with T1D and Hashimoto‘s. Love your videos 😊💕.
That's so awesome! What a helpful gift 💗! I'm glad you like it :)
Thank you 💗! I'm sorry you have been dealing with so many lows lately. I hope it gets better for you soon!
@@MichelleLord yess thank you 😊
Just diagnosed with hashimotos myself this week. I do feel a bit peppier with the new meds. So it goes!!
I have had a low thyroid since I was 28 and now I am almost 76 and I did not get diagnosed diabetic till 7 years later but I know you have a challenge on your hands as time goes on.
Thanks for the video, it’s good to see you again, glad you caught the Hashimoto early!👍🏻
Thank you 😊
so nice to see you again!
💜😊 Thanks!
Sorry to hear about the new diagnosis, will take it in your stride no doubt, working from home when its raining in Ireland is defo dismal 😂
Haha dismal is a great description for all the rain in Ireland while working from home. I hope you get a sunny day soon ☀️
Congrats on the new job, Michelle! That’s super exciting. I have the same food scale and love it too. The BB&B price is much less scary than the Amazon price in Canada 😅 Love your vlogs!
Thank you Ashley 😊💖
Greetings from Sweden😍, always nice to listen to you😊- same here, thyroid issues, but life goes on🌻
I had 3 lows during my night between 1:00am to 6:00am 3 days ago. It's not a compression low. I didn't feel like I was sleeping that night :(
Hi Michelle. Those cookies 😋 look very good, can I have the resepie? Great vlog, I missed you too.😘💙💪
Of course😊💙! This is the recipe I used: www.wellplated.com/coconut-flour-cookies/

Good video keep up the good work
Thank you!
@@MichelleLord you are welcome i have t1d and i am doing a youtube channel now....
I'm hypothyroid without having Hashimoto's. The doctor was very surprised and confused! I did have symptoms though; I would have bouts of being freezing cold and unable to warm up (I was also sleeping in my fluffy bath robe under layers and layers of blankets), weight gain, always tired...
Missed you so much.
Does black coffee have carbs.
I don't think it does, actually I know some people that would have more insulin sensitivity after drinking coffee
i spike after coffee
the caffeine makes me insulin resistant.
Black coffee doesn't have a significant amount of carbs, but the caffeine can make some peoples' blood sugar spike. When I have a latte, I bolus for the milk and add on an extra 4-5 g of carbs to account for the caffeine. That works for me at least, but it took a lot of experimenting before I figured it out 😂
Oh wow!
Omg omg I have type 1 diabetes and a thyroid disease ahhh finally someone like meeee!!!
Hope your doing well. Hang in there, springs coming !!!!
Thank you! Yes, I am SO looking forward to springtime 😊🌸

I have thyroid since my birth and I take trearment almost long 20 years and before a few months I dignosd with diabets type 1 also I have GERD I can be a live with all of them its not easy but u can do it sis
She's Canadian so probably doesn't have to treat insulin like it's liquid gold.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto only this week. This is my first week having it. Any tips
Where did you get your dinner plates? So cute!
Aww thanks! We got them all for our wedding. They are from William Ashley, and they are called "l'objet perlee dinnerware"
First I missed youuuuuuu
Aww thank you! I missed vlogging 😘
The compression lows have been really bad for my past few Dexcoms as well! Nothing like being woken from sleep feeling like you’re in a submarine that’s going down. 😳 Glad to know it’s not just me, but hope they get a handle on it in Dexland!
Oh so interesting (and annoying)! I wonder if they maybe had a batch of sensors that are ultra sensitive to compression lows 🤔!
The last about 2 months of Dexcom G6 sensors have been off. I don't know what changed but it's annoying.
yes a large percentage of type 1 s have a secondary autoimmune disease.

I trust the science, and I cannot wait to have it and get back to non-pandemic life 😊
Congratulations on getting a new job.
Thank you! 💜
I HATE the highs that come after bad sleep. The just refuse to come down. I find movement helps with them alot
Michelle, How do you transfer insulin from one cartridge to another? Thank you.
I haven't had a low in a looooong time. But last time I checked blood sugars was last november 🙄
My 9year old will have her 1st diaversary next month and was diagnosed with Hashimotos at the same time, but after her appointment today she is going to be put on medication for it because it is not under control. 😔
I have Hashimoto's as well! Got it 2 years ago, and got T1D almost 1 year ago (honeymoon phase right now!)
Yes you are definitely not alone! 💓
Try a light box. I definitely suffer from S.A.D and it helps.

@@MichelleLord they look and sound so yummy🤭 Will try to make them one of these days. Thank you!! ☺️
Would you consider eating according to an autoimmune protocol (AIP?)
I so sorry... I have girl she , is 7with T1D we live in Texas .thinks so much
Hi can u share the granola making recipe too thank you!
Hi! I actually just made it up, but I'm planning on making a video on this soon! :D
Tell me what ice cream is that Chapman’s ??
Breyers French Vanilla :)
When I 8 was diagnosed with both T1 AND hashimoto.....now im 16
Maybe a vitamin d for the winter blues
I already take 3000 IU of vitamin D a day haha, I'm not sure if it is safe to take any more 😝
@@MichelleLord Ive been trying to find where Richard K Bernstein says how much he is on, i remember it being alot. Its not in his book, it was in one of his youtube teleseminars. I think he said 10,000 IU a day cause hes not outside much. If i hear him say it again il link it here.
I ended up with that at age 17 or so. Type one age 12
My pharmacist said that, if I wake up to use the bathroom at all after midnight, I can take my thyroid pill (hypothyroid but not Hashi) and then have my coffee upon waking. Because COFFEE!
HAHA genius!! I get up to use the bathroom a lot at night 😝, and I never thought of taking that opportunity to take my pill!
