Your videos make me feel like I’m not the only one because I’m 13 and I was diagnosed with T1D 2 weeks ago and with your advice in your videos I feel confident about my future.
Your vlog was not too negative. It was reality. We can all relate to those harder days with crazy BGs for no good reason. I’m glad you’re eye exam went well. My two biggest things that I get concerned about are my eyes and my kidneys. I’m starting my 54th year with Type1 and I have no damage from diabetes to either of these. My ophthalmologist is amazed that I have no damage especially after being diabetic for so long.
Thank you so much Chrissy! It is definitely our reality right now, and I know a lot of other people are feeling isolated and lonely with this pandemic. That is so great that your eyes and kidneys are doing so well after 54 years with T1D! You are clearly doing a great job taking care of yourself, and I'm sure you will continue to live complication-free 😊💞
It’s so comforting to watch another type one! In a weird way it’s nice to know I’m not all on my own, and someone else has daily struggles too! I get so nervous about having my eyes checked too. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for over 50 years. Wow! That sounds harsh to say. I understand what you say about this disease being a roller coaster! God bless you and keep safe. I live in the Caribbean, so I have no excuses for not walking! I have to get motivated again. Thank you for allowing us into your home.
50 years! I can only imagine how much experience you have and how much you have been through ❤️. I hope you stay well and get out for many walks this week 😊☀️. Sending my love to the Caribbean!
I always really appreciate your honesty about the bad blood sugar days. It's very reassuring to hear from someone with many years experience, that diabetes is just really hard and unpredictable, even if you're meticulous in your care. I'm glad the eye doctor went well!
I’m a mom with a very new TDI kid. Thank you so much for sharing your days. I learned a lot from your video what my kid’s life will be and I need encourage myself and go through with my kid.
I enjoy your videos, I am a T1 D 58 years, I know that the days are not all good or all bad. Thinks for sharing the ups and downs. Glad to hear your eye exam went well.
Not negative at all! And if you were to be negative, so be it. Its your life and a real look into diabetes, and diabetes is not always a positive thing. We shouldnt feel that we need to constrict ourselves to toxic positivity when we are dealing with a chronic illness (and a pandemic)! Thank you for all your work!! 💜
I’m relatively new at this and finding out those pesky sugars have the knack of getting the best of you just when you think you have it under control. I used to freak out about it but now, like you, I’m just annoyed by it. Amazing what familiarity can do. Thank you for letting me realize it’s not just me going through the roller coaster!
Hey Michelle! Sometimes when life feels negative, vlogs reflect that, but I think it's really helpful to know that life as a diabetic, even for someone who's been managing it for many years, isn't sunshine and roses. I'm sure there's a lot of pressure to always show the highlights and have a really curated channel, but I appreciate that you show the good, the bad, and the ugly. Have a great week!
I too get really nervous for the eye exams... I have some minor retinopathy since about a year ago and its been really tough to have a smal blurry spot right in the middle of my sightline. Its too minor to do any corrections yet and there's been no bleeding... its also not on my dominant eye which has helped me a bit. Still scary though. Stay on top of this everyone and don't miss any appointments!
Try the lower half on the inner-front (5 inches or so above the knee) of your thigh for your Dexcom. I use an over-patch/tape as well. My favorite location for avoiding compression lows and it doesn't interfere with clothing throughout the day. Not a problem either for intimacy.
wow, it is really reassuring to see that someone in a far continent is also facing very similar problems. type 1 diabetes is super hard to deal with, this video shows it so well
Thankyou for sharing, it wasn't too negative, but helpful and encouraging that we are not alone in our struggle with this confounded disease. I have been having a bad diabetes day, mainly from dropping to 1.8 during last night, was low for some hours before I woke up. Have freestyle libre 1, great when 2 comes out with alarms. So thankyou again for sharing and great your eyes were good 👍
Thanks for showing the bad days too, it helps a lot to see that other diabetics also have days when nothing works and there are highs and lows for no good reason. Hope your sugar is more stable during the next days :) I enjoy your videos a lot!
I've had a frustrating week as well!! Had to change my basal dose up and down so much. One day I got low after breakfast, even though I had already decreased the bolus dose by like half. And today, I'm still trying to get down from a high after a breakfast, which I bolused a lot more for... I don't know what's going on, and I hate it.
Great video, as always, Michelle! I appreciate you looking for the positives in everything, despite the current state of the world. Thank you! And I am also glad your eyes are doing well! (:
Love these type of videos! I’ve had a headache all week too. I’ve also noticed that I keep clenching my jaw and it’s making the back of my ears and neck hurt. It’s ok to show that you’re not feeling well, and that yes diabetes is very complicated. On another note, can you do a video on how you organize your supplies?
I went to my eye appointment on Friday too!!! You’re like the third person from the online diabetic community I’ve seen who also got their eyes checked on Friday 😂 Must’ve been a good day to see the ophthalmologist!! I’m glad you got good news - I also got good news too - no retinopathy!! Literally I get so stressed out every single time!!
I love your vlogs! You have great recipe ideas and I appreciate your realness when things are going awesome. I get exhausted by t1d who act like everything is fine all the time.
Thank you!! I'm glad you appreciate me showing the bad days - it isn't always easy to pull out the camera, but I figure that so many other people with diabetes can relate to these frustrating days ❤️
We can't be positive at all times. We all have our ups and downs. Same with being positive and negative. Just part of life and being a human. And that is totally fine :)
Totally understand the frustration of having the same breakfast two or three days in a row and having your sugars suddenly go the opposite direction from the day before!!!! Hopefully this lockdown will be done sooner rather than later. Michelle can you send me the link for the clip that you got for your Tandem pump?
Thanks for another great video. I’m having trouble being inside so much. Especially when it’s so darn cold. It’s -18 this morning! Going to put in my snow pants and go out!! Have a good week.
Aww yes I completely understand. I'm someone who absolutely hates the winter and cold and I feel like someone needs to drag me outside during this weather. Snow pants are a great idea haha. I hope you have a good walk despite these cold temperatures, and have a good week as well ❤️
I tell you - your videos are always coming at the PERFECT time for me. I've had SUCH a frustrating diabetes week - highs and lows, bouncing all over the place and just feeling like I can't get back onto soils ground...! Even though we have this community (which is just INCREDIBLE) I was feeling very much alone and bam - watched your video and suddenly I had more kindness and compassion for myself because of what I'd seen you go through and how you were dealing with it. Thank you, as ever and always! Plus - I do believe we have the same robe - is yours from Ugg? If so - I have the same one in beige - it's the coziest thing absolutely ever - oh I love it so much!!! Wishing you a fabulous week ahead Michelle - and hopefully not too much snow 😅!! We're in the vortex here and it's A LOT!!! 🥴⛄️💙
Haha Andrea I feel like we are always in sync 💗!! I'm sorry that you also had a frustrating diabetes week, and I hope this week is much better for you so far! YES it seems like we do have the same Ugg robe! I've been living in mine recently😜! It seems as though we are getting some heavy snow here this evening, so maybe it's the same system that you had! Stay warm 💙😘
@@MichelleLord OMG SAME ROBE BUDDIES! I love it - we're so in sync - too funny! Yes - we did indeed get that huge snow storm the other day - it was a doozy!!! Stay warm and cozy in your robe - I'm in mine right now, and with it being almost 4pm I do believe the safe thing would be to live in it all evening now!!! 😂❤️🥰
When trying new sites, I also find it to be painful myself, however, I do love the front of the arm site for the reasons you just said. Personally, I've been trying a site on the inside of my arm and trying it the second time, I found it was much less painful than before. Try to stick it out if you can, it might work out for the best!
Thanks Kate! I may try the front of the arm again and see how it feels this second time around💖. The inside of my arm is my favourite and I have been trying to give it a break haha
Interested in your front of arm dexcom site - my favourite site at the moment is front of the arm but much higher up as I also find that helps with compression lows as well as avoiding the pain you mentioned...
Not negative. Might be selfish of me, but it is a comfort to know others experience bad bg days or even weeks. I worry about eyes too. I get checked yearly and told all is great, but I've been seeing tiny.. almost glittery type spots for awhile
Aww those stinking low and high BS’s 😔 I’m sorry.. I wish we could just have a FaceTime sesh whenever we have a bad day of our T1D. Hmm...never tried my CGM there on the upper arm area. Thought about trying it a couple times but I don’t knowww 🙃 and I’m soo glad to hear that the eye appt. went well! Eye appointments are not really my favorite either...I actually prefer going to the dentist hahaha SO Thankful for the one I have right now. But yeah, all those different eye drops and tests (especially the dilated ones) uugghhhh.. that’s why I try to always remember to bring my sunglasses with me. Keep it up girl 👍🏼💕
I'm sorry to hear you have masculopathy! I hope that you are able to find good care, and that it can be treated with ease. Sending you all the best ❤️❤️
A nice affect from the keto & hybrid keto craze is a lot more low carb choices out there. 10 years ago the only way to get 4 g carbs in anything like those donuts meant a tiny slice or waiting for the Regular/NPH crash to eat an entire one. =-) So frustrating those days when your BS goes higher after exercising rather than down... The vlog is not coming across negative, I'm hearing the day to day ever changing diabetes rules your body throws at you.
Hi Michelle! Thank you for an inspiring channel. Feels like I’m a little less alone in our disease. How do you know how many carbs there are when you bake? I just started carb counting and would like some tip how to think when I bake on my own. Kind regards from Sweden💙
That is exactly my son's experience. He says the only thing consistent about diabetes is that it isn't consistent. One day high at a point. Next day low at that same point. And maybe even 3rd day perfect at that same point. I hate it for him.
Gday Michelle , 70 days in lockdown think I would go nuts , we have just gone 3 weeks completely covid free here in Sydney, hopefully you guys get the vaccine soon and life can get back to some kind of normal , my diabetes is being stubborn and frustrating as well so definitely not alone there
Haha I AM going nuts 😂. That is such wonderful news that you have been covid-free in Sydney! Australia has done such a wonderful job with handling the pandemic. Thank you so much for the support and well wishes 💖

Thank you! I get a full eye exam once a year 😊. I didn't get my eyes checked until I had been living with T1D for over 5 years because that is what my endocrinologist at the time recommended.
@@MichelleLord Hi Michelle, hope all is good with you. My 10 year old son got diagnosed with type1diabetic back on Aug 2019 and also hyperthyroidism.... His endo did not say anything about eye exam to us but I am interested to do it since we never checked his eyes! Thank u again and Happy birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 Stay safe and healthy.
How did you get the perfect portions scale codes on to your phone like that? I have the same scale but I'm still using the booklet! 😂 I need to get with the times
I started with a t-slim insulin pump and Dexcom in November, changing from Medtronic. Your video on your choice of t-slim was helpful to me in making the decision to change. However, I have found that I have frequently occlusion/blockage alarms when nothing in fact is wrong. I've been in touch with the t-slim tech people as well as the Diabetes Clinical Educator (DCE) in my region (who also uses the t-slim pump) and received a new pump a few weeks ago. I am still having these alarms which I find frustrating. The DCE says she has never had this alarm or an occlusion blockage so she is quite perplexed as to what the issue might be. I am using best practices to eliminate occlusions (TruSteel cannula, changing every 48 hours) but still have issues. Have you had this problem at all? Thanks for your help. Wasn't sure how else to contact you.
Hi!! This is so frustrating, and I'm sorry you are having this problem. Yes, I've had this alarm happen multiple times over my 3 years on the tslim. However, it doesn't occur too frequently. I find that if I get this alarm, it is most likely from either a) a kink in the tubing, or b) a bent cannula. Only once has the issue come from the cartridge. Tandem has a good troubleshooting method you can follow so that you can deduce where the issue is coming from: support.tandemdiabetes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052930734-Occlusion-Troubleshooting I've used this quite a few times and it is helpful! Although I'm sure you are already aware of this since you have been dealing with these alarms so frequently! This is absolutely a downside to the tslim, as I never had this happen with my medtronic pump. I really hope that you can resolve this issue, as I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to constantly be getting that alarm! Crossing my fingers for you ❤️
@@MichelleLord Thanks for responding so quickly, Michelle. I really appreciate. You're so enthusiastic about the t-slim and Dexcom that I'm keen to keep trying. I watched your video about where you wear you pump. Do you ever have it next to your skin? That seems to be one of the suggestions I get from the tech support is not to wear the pump next to my skin. I prefer to wear it in my bra but am looking alternatives. I like the clip idea you use but noticed someone in the comments wondered whether Tandem would honour the warranty if anything happened to the pump since you'd put something permanent on it. And just one more question, if you don't mind. Where else do you wear your cannula? I see you put it in your upper stomach area (above the waist). Anywhere else? I'm pretty slim like you too and was surprised how easily you seemed to be able e to wear it on that area. I've not tried it as I thought I would get into muscle and bleed. It looks like you use the AutoSoft 90 cannula. I'm a bit squeamish about trying new areas and have been using mostly lower stomach and sides/upper back but have now quite a bit of scar tissue after more than 25 years on the pump so I'm needing to find fresh areas, particularly if I want to use the Control IQ effectively, once it is available. Thank you so much for sharing about your experience. I'm 64 years old and have had Type 1 for 35 years and am inspired by you!
Does have your dexcom on your arm bother you a lot? I've only ever put mine on my stomach and I'm worried that if I put it on my arm it will get bumped a lot and fall off easier.
Hello Michelle! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I've been following your videos for a year more less and they have been such a company to. Ive had diabetes for 13 years, always used pens. Im really considering now asking for the Tslim pump cause i think it would help me a lot, but now with this video i was a little confused and i wanted to ask you a question if you didnt mind. During the video you were high and low, and i thought the pump would take care of that? With a correcting bolus or stopping the injection of insulin? Or it doesnt work always? Or if you do it manually still doesnt work as fast as you need to? Thank you so much🥰🥰
Hi 💖! Great question! No, the pump does not prevent highs and lows unfortunately. I wish it did! Even with the pump, type 1 diabetes is still a lot of hard work and you cannot achieve perfect blood sugars. Basal IQ and Control IQ features can help to prevent SOME highs and lows, but not all. Some individuals with T1D actually find that they can achieve better control with pens compared to the pump. It's all very personal. I hope this answer helps! The best person to chat with about the tslim is a representative from Tandem - they will be able to answer all your questions much better than I can :)
@@MichelleLord Thank you so much for answering! I wanted to make my message as short as possible and looking back, it seems like i have no idea of what im talking about, sorry for that. Yeah, my question was specifically for Bascal IQ and control IQ, if you wouldnt mind telling me when those doesnt work. Actually the idea of switching to a pump (and specifically to tslim) is thanks to you, i deal with a lot of lows and my endo has always told me for years that there is a point that to get even better levels i would need to switch to a pump and you were kind of the push that i needed! I am really really willing to put all the effort that im putting on my control right now to the pump, i think it would go great! So thank you so much for everything!!
Hi Michelle. I may be moving from the States to Toronto for a job transfer later this year. I've had T1D for 37 years, MDI, NovoPen Echo with Novolog cartridges and Tresba Flextouch pens. US Libre 14 sensor with Bubble and Diabox/NIghtScout/Spike, Contour Next meter. Is there anything you can think of that I should know, that could be a diabetic deal breaker for moving to your country? Appreciate any insights you may have.
Hi! That's exiting that you may be moving to Toronto :) ! It's a fun city! The only deal breaker diabetes-wise would be to make sure your new job has private insurance to cover your diabetes supplies. Otherwise you will have to pay for everything out of pocket. Even though insulin is cheaper here than in the US, all the other supplies are just as expensive and it can really add up if your employer doesn't have a private health insurance plan. The only other health-related thing I can think of is to get your covid vaccine before you come to Canada because we don't have many, and most people will not get their first dose until sometime in the summer (at the earliest)
Your vlog is always interesting, not boring at all. Particularly the eye exam. My exam is this Tuesday. I definitely hope the Dr. gives me a new prescription. Are you pregnant with your daughter as of now? I hope everything is going well. :)
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a simple answer for how to keep blood sugars stable. If there was, I wish I knew it! Some days are better than others. What you see on here on RUclips is only a small representation of my life, and I don't even share all my blood sugars publicly, so please keep that in mind. Just do the best you can and work with your diabetes team closely 💙💙
How much fat is in those donuts? Dietary fat makes you insulin resistant. Be careful, don't look at carbs, look at fat content. Once you eliminate your insulin resistance you will have better luck controlling your blood sugars. Good luck!

Thanks for mentioning that you place your site higher up. Maybe that was my issue! I will have to give it a try :)
I had my screening last week my results have came back as maculopathy. I just hope this year goes better than the last 🙏. Hope you are well x
I'm sorry to hear you have masculopathy! I hope that you are able to find good care, and that it can be treated with ease. Sending you all the best ❤️❤️
@@MichelleLord thankyou Michelle I hope you're well take care with everything xx
A nice affect from the keto & hybrid keto craze is a lot more low carb choices out there. 10 years ago the only way to get 4 g carbs in anything like those donuts meant a tiny slice or waiting for the Regular/NPH crash to eat an entire one. =-)
So frustrating those days when your BS goes higher after exercising rather than down...
The vlog is not coming across negative, I'm hearing the day to day ever changing diabetes rules your body throws at you.
Haha yes, that's true! Before the whole keto craze, desserts like this did not exist!
Thanks so much Alex 😊
Was but on Novolog, I’m type 2 I didn’t get my Dexcom yet I hate doing my finger, I’m the same up and down
Hi Michelle ❣ love your vlgos , watching your videos from lran, wish you all the best ⚘
Aww thank you ❤️
Hi Michelle! Thank you for an inspiring channel. Feels like I’m a little less alone in our disease. How do you know how many carbs there are when you bake? I just started carb counting and would like some tip how to think when I bake on my own. Kind regards from Sweden💙
Happy birthday month🎉🎊
Thank you! 💞
I just got mine checked and it was 15/20. Really surprised.
I'm going to make your brownies for my T1D friend!
Lol i hate having eye exams because i get anxiety when they dialate my eyes, it reminds me of when i got first diagnosed
Greetings from FIKA-land Sweden🌺.... love your videos, I dont feel alone with my type1... same issues as you..... ! Take care🌻/Marie
Hej!! My husband Raffi will be happy that someone from Sweden is watching 😊💙! Sending love across the ocean!
@@MichelleLord haha!😊heard you mentioned the word Fika... maybe youre having swedish ancestors? Nice you replied... 51 years with typ1, even got a medal from Joslin USA for surviving.... never giving up, right!? 🌻
@@marieaberg3540 I do have Swedish ancestors :)! My husband was also born in Sweden and lived there until he was 14 years old.
Amazing job for dealing with type 1 for 51 years! You deserve that medal 💖💞
@@MichelleLord wow, how weird! Sweden of all countries! Pls give my regards to your husband ( and you too of course😊)- hör av er om ni planerar att besöka Sverige; vi bor i södra Sverige; kram från mig och min man Magnus😄😄”
Happy birthday month
Thank you!!
How are you did you watch the superbowl
I have type 2 dieabetes
Love your vlogs!! Are you and your husband vegetarian?? Your meals are always so inspiring and full of variety!!
Thank you so much!! We are not vegetarian, but we do eat a lot of plant based meals and try to minimize the amount to meat we eat for environmental reasons 🌎💙
Nice vlog! How often do you check your eyes! Did you do it also when you were little kid and beginning of your journey! Thanks for sharing..😊
Thank u again and Happy birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁
Stay safe and healthy.
Hi. Have you ever noticed that for the first 48 hours after a pump site change, insulin works better, after hour 48 it all goes down hill?
How did you get the perfect portions scale codes on to your phone like that? I have the same scale but I'm still using the booklet! 😂 I need to get with the times
It’s not negative, just reality. Doctors need to understand this instead of making us feel like it’s our fault that we are not perfectly controlled
Does The Butternut Bakery deliver to the US? I wish there was some place like that here.
No unfortunately they only do delivery in Toronto :(
I started with a t-slim insulin pump and Dexcom in November, changing from Medtronic.
Tandem has a good troubleshooting method you can follow so that you can deduce where the issue is coming from: support.tandemdiabetes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052930734-Occlusion-Troubleshooting
I've used this quite a few times and it is helpful!
How was your eye opointment? I'm sorry that u had a tough I hope it will get better Michelle
It went very well, thank you 💖
Not negative at all! Its realistic
What sweetener did you use for ur brownie?
@@MichelleLord Thank you so much! I was unaware of both your call-outs. Really appreciate it!!
Your vlog is always interesting, not boring at all. Particularly the eye exam. My exam is this Tuesday. I definitely hope the Dr. gives me a new prescription.
Are you pregnant with your daughter as of now? I hope everything is going well. :)
Good luck with your eye exam! Yes, I would have been about 3 months pregnant in this vlog :)
Super! Best of luck and OB/GY skills. I am so happy for you and your extended family. :)
How do you keep your blood sugar so stable!? Mine is anywhere from 70-350 and never stable at 120mg
Truly wish there was some kind of a double like button...
Hi
Hi! 💗
How much fat is in those donuts? Dietary fat makes you insulin resistant. Be careful, don't look at carbs, look at fat content. Once you eliminate your insulin resistance you will have better luck controlling your blood sugars. Good luck!
Hi Michelle, do you have an email so I can talk to you 😊 I don't have Instagram
Hi Irene! I'm sorry I don't give out my email publicly :( . We can always chat over the comments ❤️
