When that was done, then Daimler ran Chrysler into the ground- hilariously, the German brass got on the planes & went back to Germany leaving the corpse to rot- and Obama shoved the remains in bed with FIAT.

I live in Europe (Hungary) and the biggest difference (if anyone is interested) is that 1 liter of fuel here costs the same as a gallon in America! (1 US gallon = 3.7 liters) and that's the problem! We know that a Dodge challenger is not the real thing if it has a 1.6 petrol or 2 liter diesel engine instead of a V8 engine! However, for 2.5 dollars per liter, it is a great luxury to fill up here! In America, even a Mc Donalds worker can drive a V8 car, here only the rich! The rich, on the other hand, buy Mercedes, BMW or Rolls Royce instead of Dodge. The average person or a middle-class person would not be able to maintain it! I would like to add that you wouldn't be able to refuel the Dodge muscle cars either, if starting tomorrow at the gas station, you would get a liter instead of a gallon for that money. 1 liter = 0.2 gallons! imagine if tomorrow you could get 0.2 gallons of gasoline for the average American price of $3. I think many of you would switch to a Prius. The other problem with European sales is that it is much more difficult to supply spare parts here! If I were to buy a DODGE tomorrow, I would have to wait weeks or even months for a brake pad, a cardan shaft part, an engine part to arrive here from America, or I could order it separately from an American dealer and I would have to pay hundreds of dollars in shipping fees and customs. Which is a problem because if you go into a parts store and buy a 50-dollar part (plugs, pipe, whatever) you put the fifty on the table and the salesperson puts the part on the counter and you go home happy, you can go cruising in your car in the afternoon ! Here, the $50 part with customs and shipping is about $450 and I have to wait two weeks for it. That's why American cars didn't spread here, and many petrol heads love your muscle cars here too. Lot of europian dads wanna drive a big strong car like an american dads, just we can’t.

When Tony took over aka Fiat which is Stellantis the handwriting was on the wall. In fact I'm pretty shocked that it took this long for them to start rolling up the carpet on Dodge. First, they withdrew from NASCAR after a Dodge won the Championship. The Charger and Challenger were born during the Mercedes era so I guess they figured they keep building them and making money but the outcry from the Climate changers was just getting too loud. I guess no one is paying attention to the current commercials but when they try and present a Hornet as the new face of the muscle car you should know it's over and start looking for something else to drive. These people hate you and you better realize that.

The Charger and Challenger were born during the 1960s. But yes, letting a european company be in control of Dodge was a horrible mistake. To understand why they're killing Dodge you need to understand the past 30 years or so, and that europe has always been absolutely terrified of having to compete with American auto brands on a level playing field.
Because in the past few decades American brands have been artificially kept from selling in Europe, with protectionist market policies to save the european auto industry. If American brands were sold in Europe without any additional fees and with the same taxes applied to them as european brands, brands like opel, bmw, peugeot, skoda, renault, citroen, seat, vw, audi, alfa, volvo, would've lost about 70% of their customers. Clearly europe couldn't let that happen, so for all these decades, American brands have been kept from selling via nonsense policies and unfair market practices.
Now, I'm sure that at least a few people reading this will be flabbergasted beyond measure and they're gonna start screeching at me about the "horrible horrible quality" of American cars.. even though thats nothing but propaganda also pushed by european sources like top gear uk, to achieve the same goal. You can ask any real car mechanic who works on these cars every day, they'll tell you American cars (real ones not cars like the chevy aveo, lacetti, spark, ford fiesta, or similar cars) are more reliable and better quality than anything that was put out by europe. They'll also tell you exactly how much "german engineering" is worth.
1 - Theres quite a few examples of this european fear of American car dominance, but my favorite is the Chrysler ME 412. This is a car that was supposed to come out in 2004, when Chrysler and Mercedes were merged. The problem? It was going to come out around the same time the SLR Mclaren was going to come out. And it absolutely demolished the Mercedes in every way possible, in 0-60, top speed, handling, braking, and was even going to cost less, AND it used a Mercedes engine, AND Chrysler did it in less time with less resources. This was absolute humiliation for Mercedes, so they killed it off.
2 - Another example is American trucks in the Netherlands. Most vehicles in the Netherlands are average cars, but 9 out of 10 pickup trucks, are the typical American trucks you see in the US. The RAM 1500, F150, Raptors, Chevy Avalanches, and etc. Thanks to a tax advantage, if Dutch people register their vehicles as used for their business, they can buy them at a fair price, like a normal vehicle. And will you look at that, 90% of Dutch people who buy trucks, chose to buy American.
3 - Lastly, the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. This is going to sting a little for euro brand fanboys, but europe has nothing that competes with the Charger/300. A 4 door V8 sedan for around $40K. Europe, has, nothing. I've had these arguments literally thousands of times and done my homework, I've looked through all the potential competitors, and there isn't a single European vehicle, that competes with the Charger. The *closest* competitor in price is the C63 AMG, which starts at $65K. The closest competitor in size, is the E63 AMG, which is even more expensive.
Shortly, there is a massive hunger in Europe for proper sized V8 sedans that are actually within reach for the average person, yet the cheapest one starts at $65K. If the Charger and 300 were officially imported to Europe, and would compete on a level playing field, no sane person would buy C63/E63 AMGs ever again. This is yet another thing europe can't allow to happen.
So back to the original point, why is Dodge being killed off? Because politics. Europe knows the current president and his administration is on the way out, and the door WILL slam on their behind. And the guy coming back, who was the president from 2016 to 2020, made it clear he does not like the unfair policies and practices by Europe against American products. Just imagine if he brings change to these policies, and theres Chargers and 300s ready to ship to Europe. The results for european brands would be cataclysmic.
Anyway, didn't mean for this to be this long, also I'm European and live in the EU, before anybody accuses me of protecting American brands. I'm just protecting the truth.

I'm not so sure why you think Europeans hate American brands when they face a completely different set of circumstances in Europe!
      1. The roads are narrower
      2. Fuel prices are higher
      3. They have less disposable income to spend on cars than Americans
Regarding American brands and quality! I'll tell you my personal experience! I bought my first and only American designed and built vehicle in 2016 and I still own it! It is the iconic Jeep Wrangler! Love it for what it is but, and this is a big BUT, it has more manufacturing defects than all my current and previously owned vehicles from Japan and Germany COMBINED. I currently do not own any Japanese vehicles and all my other vehicles are all German. The Honda Accord and the Acura I owned had zero and one defect during my ownership. The Honda Accord was bullet proof and it just kept running. No issues what so ever in the 18 or so years I owned it - it was that good and reliable. The Acura had an annoying squeak that was traced to a mounting point in a rear shock. It was also very reliable. The Jeep on the other hand has had almost a dozen issues!
With regards to European brands being able to compete against American brands as you stated Mercedes C63 vs the Charger, if you look at the overall design, engineering and build quality, it still does not even come close. Sure performance per dollar spent, it is hard to top American muscle. But when the thing fails constantly, how much is your time worth?
This exact same argument can be made for the new Chevy C8 Corvette against the best German sports car - the 911 Twin Turbo S! As the C8 Z06 is out and the C8 ZR1 about to be released in 2025, certainly the performance per dollar is impressive. But, the design of the C8 looks like it was done by amateurs and the build quality is no where near the entry level 911! Search YT for the channel where one guy wanted to remove tires off of his C8 Z06 but the dealer couldn't help because they probably didn't have the equipment to do it. he contacted GM and they were of no help. He had to contact Ferrari to get it done! On another channel, a new C8 Z06 owner had the engine fail at less than 1000 miles and Chevy had to swap out a new motor under warranty!!! Yeah - that's quality for sure!!!

    • @DesertStateNevada
      @DesertStateNevada 3 месяца назад

@@LWRC 1 - Roads being narrower - This is correct, in some places roads in Europe are narrower.
However this is not the 1970s anymore and we're not talking about Cadillac Eldorados. Today's American cars are no bigger than Mercedes, bmw, or Audis. If road size was an issue, these brands also wouldn't do well here and also Dutch people wouldn't buy American trucks 90% of the time.
2 - Fuel prices, this is also correct. But again, these fuel prices don't stop Mercedes AMGs from having a market, and they get the same gas mileage as Charger SRTs.
3 - Disposable income, this is also true, and its another reason why Europe needs cheaper full sized sedans that compete with AMGs.
C63 vs Charger - design, engineering, quality. These are nothing but buzzwords you picked up from shows like top gear uk. This is nothing but empty talk. Like I said, go ask any real car mechanic, german engineering is nothing special, they do not make more reliable cars than Dodge. And lets not pretend like anybody will be able to tell the difference between the interior of a Charger and a C63, not that there is any difference. I know Porsche keeps scoring high on the reliability ratings.
I'm not too familiar with the C8 Corvette, I mean I follow the news but not too interested. Not surprising that its not very reliable, though 1 engine failure means nothing. That happens in every brand.

If you divide that by the number of challengers and chargers left you come up with an average of 31 cars per dealership. Sorry, but you’re statements are incorrect subjective interpretations.
Vast majority of Europeans love the US.
Most people love Charger, Challenger etc. but can’t buy them anywhere + customs, import taxes and making them street legal in EU (lights, mirrors etc.) often doubles the original price.
Opel BTW is one of the oldest car manufacturers on earth, and was part of the GM group.
Alfa Romeo and Maserati are famous, heritage heavy brands, directly linked to Ferrari. Such brands always have great profit margins. So having them in the portfolio gives you options.
Peugeot is a well known French brand with great history, especially in motorsports.
Citröen is also one of the oldest, and actually linked to Opel, because they knew each other back in the day, and both used Henry Ford’s manufacturing systems.
DS is the innovative luxury “daughter” brand of Citröen, the idea based on the original DS model.
Stelantis was actually created as a fusion, not outright buying brands, to try stay competitive AND be present globally in some way. The individual brands would not survive.
    Etc. etc.
Please do better research, or simply say “I believe”…”I could imagine”…or “maybe”…instead of presenting it as fact.
    Best wishes!

This idea stems back to the BRZ crowd wanting a Turbo. It adds unnecessary costs. Everyone was crying about the outdated interior in the Challenger/Chargers. Once youve made tweaks to "make the people happy" on the outside and engine/power you now have a car MSRP'd for more than before. For Dodge to sell it without updating the interior after making the forementioned adjustments, would add even more strain to the new cost. Now youre looking at a $42k base trim V6 with all the new frills and its still rolling on the same chassis from 1990s era Mercedes post Daimler buyout of Chrysler. Youll have a true riot on your hands.
The 2022 Banshee concept is what the 1999 Charger concept was, same shape same thinking of using alternative power via CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). It got scrapped after Daimler (Mercedes) buy out just after. Just the people complaining about the Hemi werent even born before Y2K.

My theory is that Jeep and Ram are the jewels due to their popularity, and Dodge and Chrysler are expendable. As far as Stellantis is concerned. Bob Eaton ultimately sowed the seeds of Mopar's predicament by promoting and engaging the Daimler and Chrysler merger back in the 90s. Yeah, the 300s, Chargers, and Challengers were among the harvest of the merger. But, I believe they were doing well at the time of the merger, and would have developed those rear-drive makes on their own. Iacocca never forgave Eaton for his role in the merger. Now, Mopar is under Stellantis management. And Stellantis is being the evil step-mother. The 300s, Chargers, and Challengers are a no-go across the pond because anything over there with an engine over 1000 CC's is penalized heavily with extra taxes. And their fuel prices are in the stratosphere.

Breaking news came yesterday with a teaser of a preproduction Charger, and it looks great. An ICE version with a high output twin turbo 6 would be plenty good enough for me, unfortunately no manual transmission option might be a deal breaker. I absolutely agree though its late arrival and not extending the current Challenger & Charger/300 until that time will be devastating to Dodge & Chrysler dealers. Heads should roll for that stupid management decision.
