"What was a necessity on deployments?" - The internet. The provider in Camp Victory was absolutely amazing (ran by Swedish furries). The one in Bagram was worse than dial-up and cost $100 a month (ran by Indians).

I did 5 years in the British army (royal artillery) gunner here through and through… joined at 17 and left at 22 I’m 23 and I’ve found a job that fits but I can for sure say I do not miss anything… painting shovels and crawling in a corridor covered in everyone’s sick is not fun
