You’d think customers would have the decency to remove junk that’s in the way of you doing your work. I’d be absolutely mortified to present my vehicle in such filthy condition to someone who’s working on it. Not to mention trying to be even cheaper and ordering wrong parts instead of the ones you advise to order which is always the cheapest regardless…I get people have different situations but for cripes sake...On a positive note though love your work man you’re super awesome, kind and the most genuine mechanic I’ve ever seen. Incredibly talented and knowledgeable with amazing integrity. All of your customers are lucky to have someone like you.

I learned to never accept snacks or drinks from a customer, because then they'll ask for a discount. When I first started working with my grandpa years ago, I'd say yes to snacks and drinks. Then later on down the road I started getting an extra apple pie, oatmeal cup, and a drink from Mcdonalds when we'd go there for breakfast. Then my grandpa was able to stop giving discounts. You learn as you go
Was the pump the wrong one ? Or since it was cheaper and non oem few things differ? When I look up the pump everywhere shows the pump she purchased. Even at autozone or O'Reilly shows the same. Can you put a part number for the one you looked up ?
He clearly states she bought the cheaper one that is for a completely different variant of that vehicle. He did all the leg work for her but sending her a quote with all the prices and links to the products. But she still chose to buy the wrong one because it was a few dollars cheaper. As the same pump from the parts store is over $300. He does this with all quotes where the customer wants to buy all the parts themselves. So he does the quote for the installation of said parts. Then sends the links to all the parts,parts kits from all the parts stores and online like Amazon. He takes the vin number and full details of the car so he knows he has the right vehicle and variant. And looks ups the parts and finds the exact matches and then sends them through to the customer for approval. So then when they get all the parts delivered to there home they contact him to book in a time to install everything. And many times by the time the parts come in they decide to get a full service down as well seeing as he is there and they have been to the parts stores checking out prices of service kits and they often get everything they need for it. And ask him how much extra would it be to do it while he does the other repairs and parts installation.

Most reputable shops will charge double for labor if you bring your own parts in.. Franchised dealerships won't even install parts that were bought elsewhere.. They all mark everything up at least 30%.. On top of the outrageous rates they charge for labor..

You never know what your getting from a closing out sale vs OEM which is reliable mostly but usually costs more, and if it's a premature failure oem is bad quality. Also no hate to rock auto they're great I'm a firm believer in trying 3 10$ parts over one 300$ part especially when they work fine. But still basically what your saying is you'll replace your parts with anything 😂
I quit working on cars years ago. Used to be able to do everything to repair cars. Mid 80's that changed with all the changes they did to cars to get rid of backyard mechanics. I still don't know why they stopped with mechanical fuel pumps connected to the side of the engine block. Hardly ever had a problem with them. And easy to remove and replace. Even the first electronic fuel pumps were easy to remove and replace. They weren't in the tank. They were bolted to the firewall or some to the engine. And small as well, about the size of a softball.
The thing is, the kids are the reason the car is so dirty. Anybody with kids knows. Knew a girl whose car was always spotless. A few years later I saw her car after she had a kid and it was filthy. Mostly food crumbs.
It's actually not hard to deal with. I grew up with two siblings. The three of us sat in the back of my parents' vehicles all the time on long trips. There was never, ever a single food crumb in the car. How? Simple. Don't let your damn kids eat in the effing car! Set that rule early and stick to it. Only thing we were allowed was water. I know......shocking concept nowadays. Learn to say no to your kids.

Man have you not noticed how flexible he is with his customers. Your worried about him buying his own parts to make more money. He isn't worried about money. How many times you think he has been screwed over by letting his customers make payments? PAYMENTS! He is just a genuine guy that is trying to put the customers at ease in a very stressful situation. So what the customer ordered the wrong part. At least they won't be saying he did and guess what he will still do the job and then the customer will most definitely be more than content on having him again. Do you have a professional account set up with O'Reilly's? If not you should have one set up it'd take like 30 minutes to do just talk with the store manager make sure your pricing is installer with general repair and quick lube it saves big money I've just noticed a few times you've used them and didn't see special pricing on there

I bought a 1/2 impact last weekend from harbor freight, Hercules brand. Used for a bunch of stuff at the scap yard and no issues. Watched some reviews says their a hair under dewalt at half the price💁🏻♂️… Milwaukee being number one, dewalt two
From watching all this videos for last 2 hours people need to learn change fuel filters and there oil. I feel like that most of there problems are coming from with the pumps and timing chain failure. It also wouldn't hurt to use a vacuum on the car. I'm just saying as someone that has had over 20 cars only one fuel pump in a s10 and timing chain in old 1987 Toyota i bought. Rear end oil , motor/trans oil, filters, will save you from bigger problems.
That's one example of why I would let you get the part because you know exactly what part that it needs saving 20 or 40 bucks p😊 probably costed her more than what it should have costed in the first place I would trust your judgment and let you get the part

I take them out once in a while to do leather installations. Just drill out the rivet and put a new one in when you put the seats back in.
