I have a 92 Ford Ranger. Bought it new. Shortly after the warranty expired, it was not starting properly. Had a couple of mechanics look at it, couldn't figure it out. Took it to the local Ford dealership and they said I needed a new engine. I was devastated. I mentioned it to a co-worker who was a high school kid. Fellow IT tech here. At my organization, whenever my coworkers has a computer acting up, all they do is just ask me to stand behind them so that the computer fixes itself.😅
Retired airline pilot here. the bane also applies when we would write a problem and maintenance would show up and the problem disappears ending with the logbook write up from the mechanic "could not duplicate". of course this only applied to relatively minor problems. before anybody gets upset at a "broken" airplane being flown, all aircraft have what is called a MEL which means Minimum Equipment List. this list dictates what problems can be deferred until later date (or time of hours flown) before it has to be repaired
I had a lady customer that was told by a shop in California that the reason her 1999 Dodge pickup was hard to put in gear was because her steering column was worn out and it was going to cost $2,000 to rebuild it. Her son told me about it and said she was coming to visit. She managed to drive it 1,100 miles here and I checked it out. The steering column shifter felt nice and tight but, you could feel the linkage not working right. I got underneath to find the arm on the trans was not tight and had slid up on the shaft. I don't know how she got it to shift at all! I slid it down and tightened the clamp and worked perfect. I tried to charge her $20 but, she made me take 40! I told her she owes me $1,960 in chocolate chip cookies.
Yeah but they aren't paying for the time to fix it. They should be paying for the time it took you to attain that knowledge. Coming to the correct diagnosis and being able to fix it quick
@@tkurzmil3603my 2013 civic si does too. The job to get it replaced is about $1k. That includes part and labour. But it requires a good mechanic who knows how to do timing well. Otherwise you can damage the engine.
I just went through this on a GM w/ VVT. Replacing the exhaust cam actuator solenoid when the new one comes in because I think the low oil might have pooched it. Or it's full of junk now. And the cam position sensor because I measured it with my DMM and got funny readings from 2 pins so I figure I'll replace it, too. They're around $30 each so why not. Better safe than sorry. Luckily I don't have to do any sort of relearn procedure afterwards like on my old 2001 Blazer
Matter of fact, my mom went to meineke back in the day to get brakes from she thought was a reputable company.well by the time they were done she pain like almost 400 dollars for a little Honda? My husband looked at it the following day because she actually still experiencing problems with her brakes so when my husband looked at the brakes he was able to see almost immediately they spray painted her pads calibers something can't remember? Went back to complain and he saw a spray paint bottle they were using and doing this to many people.. just food for thought he got her money back and since then our family has used a local shade tree mechanic and has been a blessing for lots of people souly because he is honest and fair in price Keep up the good work young man 😊
*I've been a mechanic for well over 30 years, and a trucker for a few decades as well. I check EVERY vehicle before starting the engine, every dang time. You NEVER know when a leak can spring, a belt could have snapped or deteriorated, or some other damage could occur. I have found and avoided being left on the side of the road quite a few times by catching issues. Just by taking a few minutes before each trip.*
Dude you do my heart good knowing youre cruising around fixing stuff. Techs. The unsung heroes of society. Guarantee that is a child with Moms keys - pressing the panic button. Dude - I forgot how good it smells LOL
"Really? I'm about to go cut a battery dude..." and the 'shave and a haircut, two bits' knock on the door. lol, the real is real. I wish you were around here, I'd absolutely rather pay for your services than any of the local shops! Take care man, keep spreading the goodness!
I have been a Diesel Mechanic my whole life! This man is a great Mechanic! great attitude great communication! I also love your truck set up! I have a Dodge 24v Cummins dully as a service truck and crane and welder but yeah that's a really nice set up you have their sir!!
Man there's a reason you're doing well and I swear it's because of your honesty and ability to listen and care. Best of luck to you man stay humble and be great
Matt Love your videos and content, I am so happy there are still people out there like you who take pride in there work & are honest. Thank you again I look forward to your next video I subscribed & liked each time I watch your videos.
I have the same engine in my car and there is a service bulletin for the timing tensioner because it is oil driven and is supposed to hold when the engine is off however that sometimes fails so there is a loud rattle when it restarts until the oil pressure builds. Also my engine burned an insane amount of oil until I replaced the PCV valve.
You know you are great mechanic when people refer others to you. In my area, there is a local mechanic's shop that has been in business over 40 years that feeds off of referrals - no advertising. They are so constantly busy. The guy now has mechanics working for him and the service remains amazing!
I’m around these Hondas everyday they all sound like a typewriter ticking pretty normal and if it’s making a loud rattle noise on start up it could be the Vtc actuator
Honda 1.5l Turbos are also Direct Injection so you will hear tons of injector noise, Honestly she just needs to stay up on a good maintenance schedule and that car will last her a lifetime. That is where the majority of issues arise is people just rather put in gas and drive till the wheels fall off or the engine blows up.
@@MichaelSmith-kr9qw Thats a direct port motor. it wont last nearly that long. Honda lost a lot of qaulity in everything, but namely Motors, which is a shame since Honda has maintained we are an engine company first, car company second. Around 2016 most manufactuerers jumped to direct injection following the Germans, and a major flaw is that the intake valves are no longer constantly being cleaned by fuel, and they suffer as a result. Honda notably has fallen in quality in the last 7 years that i left Honda after close to 20 years as a tech 5 years ago. Direct injection aside, the new motors arent that great, and more than a few engine codes over the last 10 years have needed major internal recall jobs. Anyways, Im almost sure these dont have those vtc actuator issues, but its been a while since ive had to think about that and I smoke a lot of weed.
Hey Parker you inspire me to start my own mobile business. I'm going to for my notary license in pa and going to make a mobile busines out of it. For people that need stuff done that can't leave their home for whatever reason. Thank you for your hard work and videos!
Brother you inspire me to be a better person in in of itself. Imma trying to be like you when it comes to be a mechanic. Thanks so much for another honest video Parker. Much love brother❤
I have a friend who is what i call a master mechanic. Did schooling for it years ago i guess. Literally the smartest person ive ever met when it comes to everything mechanics. And not just cars...the man can literally work and fix almost anything. And the thing that gravitated me towards your videos is you guys remind me of each other sooooo much. Except that hes thai and grew up in Thailand 😂 now lives in utah. but other then that yall are so similar. Like its actually wild. Even both got long hair lol. But hes the same exact type of mechanic you are. An honest trustworthy person who is unbelievably knowledgeable and loves to help people. He was doing a shop just out of his garage while having a normal 9-5 as like an advanced maintenance guy. And unfortunately hes basically gave up his side business as a mechanic bcuz he just doesnt have the time to do both and he makes more money from the 9-5. He'll still do work for people he knows and shit but man....im so disappointed. He planned on opening a shop eventually and everything. Which would have been super successful. Just sucks because i feel like his true passion and crazy skillset is being wasted... but id never feel comfortable telling him that. Like he could do the same exact thing you do on youtube and if people ran across his channel....theyd be like "you remind me so much of parkers mobile mechanic" 😂 and mind you, he has no idea about you as far as im aware. Anyways....its just crazy how similar you guys are. And everytime i watch your vids i think about how successful he would be as a full time mechanic.
Its hard to find honest shops or mechanics .its nice to honest guy who works on cars and knows what hes doing 👍 i really appreciate all the good carma on the Channel
I think they meant that it's consuming the oil most Honda's so that trust me I've owned Honda's and Acuras since I've been driving. Those VTEC engines do it
@@cancerking9416 I had an obvious oil leak on my Toyota but there was never anything on the ground where I park. Because the seal that was leaking was a gasket higher up valve cover it was burning off along that valve cover and just accumulating there I did not see it. That is just what he found and showed her too in the video. She may have misunderstood the first tech just like her oil light coming in but not checking her oil. Not all auto techs are crooks but many customers are clueless. I am 65 little white girl and due to finances have always learnt the basics of cars to home repairs so to avoid and learn a little to catch big repairs are caused. I hope you see that now he was not a crook
As a Honda owner i think it's the VTC solenoid that's making her engine sound like that. As my daughter car does the same. And I WOULDN'T recommend adding Lucas with an engine with such thin viscosity for the same reason of the VTC solenoid.
Had a friend this morning telling us about taking his European import to a shop in Lebanon, quoted him 3000 to fix a glow plug problem causing his check engine light to come on. They were going to change all four glow plugs. He took it to a single operator outfit in Woodbury who fixed it for 50 bucks, replaced one glow plug with a used one in good shape. Honest mechanics who know what they are doing are a blessing.
I can’t believe someone else had this idea too! 😮 I’ve been saying I want to start a mobile garage with an old snap on truck! 😂 This is awesome! Gotta get yourself a nice flat towing trailer to pull behind that rig then get air lifts. You could roll cars up onto your mobile lift then. Boom no more jacks or mats! You could even customize the trailer to have a gap in the middle like a pit! Good luck with this venture bro!
I did this back in 1982! I was in college and supposedly had a job lined up at Ford Motor Company office worker in engineering. Walked in the day I was supposed to start working, and they told me the program was canceled yesterday, and someone should have called me. The economy was really really bad. You could not even get a job at McDonald's! My girlfriend's neighbor needed a car battery, oil change and a few other minor things like wiper blades. And they hated taking their car to the dealership and getting overcharged. I looked at one of their invoices from prior service, in the dealer charge them $15 for 'miscellaneous shop supplies, even though the service was performed under warranty. They always saw me working on my girlfriend's car, and asked me if I could possibly help them out. Since I couldn't find a job, I told him I would do it for Parts Plus $50 for labor. They jumped at my offer especially knowing that their car Would be safe and sound in their driveway. and not sitting at some dealership. I did the work and they even paid me $75 instead of the $59 I wanted. I told them that they could use brake pads soon, and they asked me to do that too. More people started asking for my mechanical help. So I loaded up the back of my 1979 Mustang hatchback with all my tools, and would go to people's houses to service their vehicles. I was doing two or three Vehicles a day if they were not complicated. And making decent cash money to help me get through college. Most of these cars were from the 1970s in 1980s. A time when you could turn the rotors at least once, before replacing them. Within a month I was working 7 days a week. Even caring Drop lights with me as I was working at night! I needed the money! The jobs I hated the most were exhaust systems. Since I was working at people's houses and in their driveway, I did not have a lift. Simply car ramps and a creeper. I couldn't believe that I was so busy that I was turning jobs down. One day as I was washing all the greasy crap off my hands, I decided to wash that person's car. I have a real chamese drying cloth, which left the car spotless. Soon that was standard service and people would pay me almost $20 just to wash your car in their driveway. Before you turn your nose up with that, gasoline was a little over a dollar a gallon, and minimum wage was $1.25. There were certain things that I simply could not do in a person's driveway. Or if it was a safety issue safety related issue. I struck a deal with the manager at the "Mr Muffler" Repair Shop, and he gave me a real good discount because I was bringing so many cars there. Now that I'm 65 years old it's a little hard to crawl on my back under a vehicle. I have a Dodge Durango that needs a new power steering rack, and it's been sitting in my garage for about 4 months, ready to go into the vehicle. I could use a little help, but I'm not going to pay over $100 an hour to a dealer order repair shop to do the work. It's not that hard! We used to have shop classes High School where we were talked to use our hands and fix things. Sadly that's gone. And a lot of the young people and I try to get to help me, even helping me Rake the damn yard from the leaves, don't want to work hard or get dirty. OR they $20 an hour to walk around with a backpack leaf blower on their back. The new generation is lazy and doesn't want to do manual labor. But yes, there is a need for mobile mechanics.
You are a good man..and 1 in a million! Auto repair has always been one of the most professions people get ripped off. Always nice to come across honest mechanics like yourself Thank You for that Be safe and God Bless
Thanks for helping us women who just want the problem fixed at a honest and reasonable price. I appreciate your professional mobile auto service and the education you provide to your clients. It would be fantastic if you could mentor an apprentice to duplicate your mission of affordable mobile car care in Raleigh, North Carolina!
those coins are normally there to see if people actively use that vehicle, or if its just sitting. If you didnt leave it, someone did for a reason! They want the tools inside. Its like someone putting something on your front door to see if it has been removed next time they swing by. Could also just be a kid or somethin *shrugs*
that loud squeal was the belt. you can put some belt conditioner on it if you don't want to replace it. or if you really want an easy way, just turn on the car and hold a stick of roll-on deodorant to the belt for about 5 seconds (basically just waxing it) and it will never squeal again.
mmmm, deodorant. I wouldn't use dressing, b/c it can be sticky and make annoying noise. But I'll have to try deodorant. Belts are ruined with they get coolant on them and make noise when cold, but if that works...nice.
Had an older friend that took her car in for a hard to turn steering wheel. Mechanic told her her power steering pump needed replaced. She showed it to me before having that done. I aired up her tires and it miraculously fixed the problem. $0.00 fix.
Now this good mechanic has earned respect, admiration and more customers. And the other one who asked much money, never Will be honest and will lose customers.
Brother random as hell but I could give two craps about watching wrenching videos, landed on a short out of the blue but you sir have made me addicted. Super cool filming the process for the shade tree fellas, and you help spread the love, f#$k yeah dude keep on keeping on good stuff.
Years ago, purchased a used full-sized Ford Bronco from a dealership. Knew the sales guy. Noticed the single serpentine belt needed replacement. Asked the dealership to replace. They wanted to charge me $1500...so I have a number. Told the sales guy to knock off $1500 from the price and will do it myself. Split the difference...he knocked of $750. Took it to my buddy with his own shop...part was $45...$60 all in. Buddy was a MOPAR guy...so he had to charge something. ;-)
Had that happen to me for a state inspection. Quote at one chain service garage. "$700, but we can get the minimum done for $450." Had it done and inspected for < $20, at private garage.
Procedure: 1-Check oil level and make sure is to full mark. 2- Check is clean and not dirty. 3- Start visible inspection around engine to see obvious leaks, if not...4- Remove drive belt or serpentine belt then start car. If noise goes away, its the belt tensioner thats starting to go. 5- Also, hondas require to have the valves adjusted and they have to be adjusted at the right and accurate measurement. This is a normal part of honda maintenance. 6- Some hondas have a timing chain and when starting they make a metalic noise when cold at first, then noise goes away. The wrong type of oil can cause weird noises inside engine because it is not the proper viscosity. Make sure you put in the right type if oil. Although this isn't a common issue, but it does happen. If oil pressure light came on while car was runing , and stays on, stop immeditely and shot car off. The oil pressure light is designed to light up for a few seconds then it should turn off after car is started. All electronic sensors are there to monitor engine pinging, timing, camshaft and crankshaft revolutions, etc to be sent to your dashboard via an electrical signal that works on a 5 V reference.
my cruise control stopped working a few years ago.(1 year after the factory warranty expired) Three dealers and an independent shop quoted my anywhere from $2100 to $3000 to "fix" the problem. I didn't think it was worht it, so I just ignored it. Then one day, I was looking at some RUclips videos and some guy mentioned that the relay was the culprit. I went to the Mercedes dealer's parts dept and bought the relay, which was only $37 plus tax. When I got home, I opened the trunk, removed two plastic retainers to gain access to the relay panel. Pulled the old relay out and inserted the new one. Went on a test drive... the cruise control worked again!!! I was both happy and angry.(angry because those three places were either incompetent or wanted to rip me off)
I took an Excursion to a Brakes P place and was quoted $1,400. I refused, drove to local Auto Shop, family owned, non franchise and was charged $300 for same job. They said, they hear it everyday and then they told me the store and the quote! They were right.
She did not seem curious which is unfortunate. I taught my daughter how to check fluids, especially the oil, and how to look for small things that could make a big difference. This women would do well to familiarize herself with her car. I once asked a woman how she enjoyed her turbo Subaru. She had no idea what I was talking about. oof!
I went to a dishonest mechanic and they wanted $2,000 for a valve cover gasket. I did a youtube search and my dad and I did it in an hour and a half and like $30 for the gasket.
Ived watching a lot of repair type of videos a lot, coz it gives me an idea on how to fix and applied to my own car, but i barely subscribed, but you matt makes me fall in love on the work that you do, your not just a mechanic, i know your making videos and content, but i see your videos on another level of sincerity, thank you.

This guy is one of the best mechanics around. I hope god blesses this man for his good deeds.
I told her she owes me $1,960 in chocolate chip cookies.
you are a nice person, good hart, but you need to eat too, next time charge less but not that low, because your time and knowledge worth it
@@ignaciogodoy7095 Well, she and her son were standing right there and saw it took five minutes .
Yeah but they aren't paying for the time to fix it. They should be paying for the time it took you to attain that knowledge. Coming to the correct diagnosis and being able to fix it quick
A lot of mechanics are out there scamming people. Another awesome video and money saved by Matthew. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you for being a kind decent American. May God bless you!
My hat's off to all the mobile mechanics out there, making it so much easier for folks to get their problems fixed.
You have to be very careful when going to a mobile mechanic, some of them are unreliable drunks who just can't hold a regular job.
She is too cute "oil can"! Thank this man for looking out for us women.❤
That's what it is
Her VTC actuator probably started rattling on startup when she was running low on oil.
This is a common problem with honda engines, the VTC actuator on our CRV is going and has an aggressive rattle on cold starts only.
Hondas are known to need valve lashing once they start getting up in mileage. I've owned two Accords, and both needed lifter adjustments.
@@tkurzmil3603it will take out your timing chain if you dont fix it.
Thank you for helping people in need. Some of these auto repair places are not honest people. Thank you again
You are a good man and a great mechanic. Please keep doing good.
I’m a different kind of mechanic. Like you, im honest. Never made a lot of money. But always slept well. Koudos brutha.
Went back to complain and he saw a spray paint bottle they were using and doing this to many people.. just food for thought he got her money back and since then our family has used a local shade tree mechanic and has been a blessing for lots of people souly because he is honest and fair in price
Keep up the good work young man 😊
Matt, you are a great F'in dude and great mechanic!
Your honesty is a blessing for these people who could get easily taken advantage of. Good karma
He said I don't hear anything alarming as the car alarm goes off the whole time lmao😂
How is this channel not at a million subscribers? This dude is the mean of amazing customer service.
Good for you mate. You have a great attitude, you don’t need to stiff people to make a great living. Well done.
Best of luck to you man stay humble and be great
You are a really honest mechanic God bless you Matt keep up the good work!!
Matt knows that (lol)😂 engine cleaner lolol oil thickener for 120k mile car lololol noise was the same
Lololo
You know you are great mechanic when people refer others to you. In my area, there is a local mechanic's shop that has been in business over 40 years that feeds off of referrals - no advertising. They are so constantly busy. The guy now has mechanics working for him and the service remains amazing!
5:11 slug bug!!😂😂 Matt is freaking hilarious
Dude is awsome and has such a good heart, much love from Texas
I’m around these Hondas everyday they all sound like a typewriter ticking pretty normal and if it’s making a loud rattle noise on start up it could be the Vtc actuator
Honda 1.5l Turbos are also Direct Injection so you will hear tons of injector noise, Honestly she just needs to stay up on a good maintenance schedule and that car will last her a lifetime. That is where the majority of issues arise is people just rather put in gas and drive till the wheels fall off or the engine blows up.
The timing belt gets loud on j series engines on cold start too
@@MichaelSmith-kr9qw Thats a direct port motor. it wont last nearly that long.
@@melvingibson4525 Timing belt dosent get loud, the tensioner does. and if it is getting loud, change it all

So glad this customer was treated right, good on you op.
I've been an honest mechanic for 36 years. Game recognize game lol. Good work.
VCT actuator. Colder weather, and low oil will make that guy chatter like crazy at cold start.
My 2014 Honda has done it since new. 100k miles now, still doing it. No doubt what she heard.
Brother you inspire me to be a better person in in of itself. Imma trying to be like you when it comes to be a mechanic. Thanks so much for another honest video Parker. Much love brother❤
We need more people like Matt in the world
God bless for your honesty !
And everytime i watch your vids i think about how successful he would be as a full time mechanic.
he is better off doing office job. car mechanic is dirty work.
Show him this channel and what’s possible
@@scm4you599… perhaps a very short sighted view.
Its hard to find honest shops or mechanics .its nice to honest guy who works on cars and knows what hes doing 👍 i really appreciate all the good carma on the Channel
Great work and we need more people like you that really care and make money without ripping people off!
Shocked they didn't tell her she needed blinker fluid while they were at it. God bless you bro for you being an honest guy
as a mechanic for a construction company, i applaud this guy.
what a good deal and what a good chap, well done
It’s leaking internally! How crooked can people get!
@@justmejo9008 I was referring to the repair shop and not Matthew, but thank you.
@@dre_707my toyota camry is the same consumes alot of oil. Apparently its an engine defect when toyota came out with the vehicle
@benjamin_axios8926 they recalled those and offered a fix. They used the wrong piston rings from 06 to 09 I believe.
As a Honda owner i think it's the VTC solenoid that's making her engine sound like that. As my daughter car does the same. And I WOULDN'T recommend adding Lucas with an engine with such thin viscosity for the same reason of the VTC solenoid.
Just a great guy, who happens to be a great mechanic. Nice job dude. 👍🏽
BG EPR is the engine flush he used at 6:17 for the people wondering what it was since he did not mention it.

There should be a basic shop class made mandatory in school. But it's a good thing there's folk like this guy.
Always nice to come across honest mechanics like yourself

those coins are normally there to see if people actively use that vehicle, or if its just sitting. If you didnt leave it, someone did for a reason! They want the tools inside. Its like someone putting something on your front door to see if it has been removed next time they swing by.
Could also just be a kid or somethin *shrugs*
I just found your channel yesterday, I love the good things you try to do for people.
that loud squeal was the belt. you can put some belt conditioner on it if you don't want to replace it. or if you really want an easy way, just turn on the car and hold a stick of roll-on deodorant to the belt for about 5 seconds (basically just waxing it) and it will never squeal again.
mmmm, deodorant. I wouldn't use dressing, b/c it can be sticky and make annoying noise. But I'll have to try deodorant. Belts are ruined with they get coolant on them and make noise when cold, but if that works...nice.
Good for her for getting a second opinion. Smart lady right there. 🤓

"$700, but we can get the minimum done for $450."
Had it done and inspected for < $20, at private garage.
Man I wish I had a a mechanic like this in Michigan and I only do my own breaks
And on Sunday we did get snow. In North Carolina anyway.
Great video, BTW
Worked at Honda for a bit. I was also thinking valve adjustment.
my cruise control stopped working a few years ago.(1 year after the factory warranty expired) Three dealers and an independent shop quoted my anywhere from $2100 to $3000 to "fix" the problem.
She had no idea what I was talking about. oof!
Bro might as well be talking Spanish to her, rocker lifters😂😂😂
No doubt! You see the customers eyes glaze over and and all the hear is well....a different language that also sounds expensive....lol!!
😂😂 and that’s y they was trying to charge 4,300 because she was just going with what the first shop I’m glad she had sense enough for second opinion
