  • After smelling fuel vapors in the new WJ I had to fix a botched fuel pump access hole. Little did I know, the previous owner actually cut into the tank!

    Thankfully, you keep spare parts. Keep up the great work.

    The best way to cut an access hole is to simply cut the entire spare tire well out, like you are doing a tank tuck, which is never a bad idea as well.

    Same thing for when people cut the header panel to access the fan relay under the passenger headlight (although not as dangerous). Previous owner of my WJ did that, and cut right into the vacuum reservoir, causing a vacuum leak that took me way too long to find.
    It's quicker to take time to do it right than to do it wrong twice.

    Nothing wrong with doing it that way if you know what your doing. Make a access cover bolted in place. My Buick LeSabre had a access cover in the trunk. Unbolted four bolts and it took me 20 minutes to replace.

    How much for the spare skid plate? My WJ is in dire need of one lol

  • @raystevens687
    @raystevens687 8 месяцев назад +1

    Yea you might want to enlarge that hole and then cut metal out of your other Jeep and over lap the sheet metal. There is a tool out there you drill a hole then this device put in thread in the sheet metal. I was watching a video the other day you need a little muscle your titen the threads in to the metal. This person mentioned that he got this tool over at Harbor Freight. Most of the time I tell people to stay out of there. But if this tool did cost to much you might want this tool for other jobs.

    Hi Dan I would say drop the gas ⛽️ tank but before you put the gas tank back in I think it would be nice to have an inspection door big enough to get that fuel pump out with out a bunch of trouble getting it out. Just so you know serval years ago my fuel pump went out. I had my GMC SONOMA 4.3 V6truck 1st towed to the dealer way over 1,000 dollars then I finally had my truck towed to a auto shop 750.00 that was still to much bet I bit the bullet and had them do it yes he should of used a little more safety buy removing the tank or at least lowering the gas tank and maybe removing the fuel out of the tank I probably would of removed all the fuel out of the gas tank and also if I could get my hand up where fuel pump was I would use some soap water that Dissolve gas so you wouldn't blow yourself up. And then make a small hole above the fuel pump big enough so you can see approximately how big of hole you need to cut in order to get that fuel pump out. Anyway I hope you kinda like my Idea 💡. I'm thinking about cutting a hole over my fuel pump and going to a junkyard and see if I could buy a small portion of a truck bed over lap the hole and put some self tapping bolts 🔩 in the bed.
