As an owner of a HO Cummins I can tell you it may have more power and torque but it is way slower because of the Aisin transmission. A standard output Cummins with the 68RFE would beat my truck
@@TheRamGuy its tuned that way to start at a lower power output then sort of pour it on as it goes. If it was full power out the gate you'd have drivetrain failures. @@Itsa_Mea same with me. Brake torque the H.O. is the best method. It rolls! The Aisin starts in 2nd gear, which bogs it down. Only Rams with 6.7L from 2019 to current day and Ram/Jeep with 3.0L EcoDiesel from 2014 to current day are of concern with the CP4 pump. I've got a 2012 Ram 3500 and it uses a CP3 pump (and no DEF). The CP3 has three pumping elements instead of two. It's heavier, but it's pretty much bullet-proof. The CP4 only has two pumping elements and is a lighter unit. Something else to add...failure of the CP4 units generally occur around the 100,000 mile mark. One thing that stands out that I've noticed is that with the CP4 (and probably any pumping system) is to replace the fuel filter as impurities can cause failure in the pumps. Also ultra low sulfur diesel is suspected as a cause by not providing enough lubrication. Since these pumps are under high pressure, impurities can really impact them. I would say change your filters at regular intervals...and maybe sooner than recommended.
This race could be run on another day and wind up with completely different results, depending on each one’s PDF load. DPF definitely has an effect on performance. Ever notice how spunky a diesel can feel right after a DPF regen?

I drove one quite a bit. Up to 30 you wonder if something is wrong with the truck and when it hooks around 40 it will amaze you. They do have the most aggressive torque management. There was also an an article where the big 3 got hooked to a truck pull sled. Ford didn’t do so well because they cut power trying to brake boost as well. GM doesn’t.
@@HioSSilver1999 Ford is definitely the most aggressive at pulling power though, it literally freight trained past both of them once it got up to speed and torque management turned itself off. If this had been a rolling 1/4 mile race from 30 or 40mph I wouldn't be surprised if that Ford pulled 3 to 5 truck lengths on the others by the end of the race. The only reason the Chevy gets off the line so fast is not because it puts power down better overall but because its ECU is more lenient with torque reeducation and traction management.
@@nathanmcdonald610 they're probably more lenient because it puts down power better. The chassis allows to in the tuning. That's how most this stuff works. How about a rolling start and with a load from a dead stop and rolling start.
Love the new setup! Can't wait to watch more of these, especially with almost the entire midsize segment getting overhauls this year. Good times ahead!
I'd like to see the high output versions of this race, the Ram with 420 hp and 1075 ft lbs torque vs the Ford and Chevy's (they don't have a high output but are the same across the board)
The powerstroke limits in 1st and second. The 6.7 was a remake of the 6.0 and they did a good job to be on top of all the diesel for 3/4 ton
@@stone9882 the 6.7 and 6.0 are quite different engines, don’t know where you heard that
@@stone9882 lol the 6.7 shares literally nothing from the 6.0. What are you talking about?
Get the high output Cummins… specs are closer to the others.
As an owner of a HO Cummins I can tell you it may have more power and torque but it is way slower because of the Aisin transmission. A standard output Cummins with the 68RFE would beat my truck
@@TheRamGuy Every fanboy of the Aisin/HO Cummins needs to read this comment.
@@TheRamGuy its tuned that way to start at a lower power output then sort of pour it on as it goes. If it was full power out the gate you'd have drivetrain failures. I also have a H.O. and a little power braking off the line "tricks" it to pour on more power earlier off the line. Next time you're out try it.
@@Itsa_Mea same with me. Brake torque the H.O. is the best method. It rolls! The Aisin starts in 2nd gear, which bogs it down. In a quarter mile race, the H.O. is superior to the L.O. because of the torque spread on a roll. Still, the 68 holds its own, as witnessed here. And I love the reliability of my 3500.
@@TheRamGuy I am on my 20th or so ram diesel. I was a dealer for 25 years, My current HO 3500 has way more power than any earlier ram diesels. I would say it was close to some of the demo's I have installed tuners on in the past. You are dead wrong.
Thank you fellas. I appreciate the content always. I would like to see 1-Ton match ups both duly and non-duly. Especially the HO Ram 3500 against the others. Just to see. However, I think duramax has been taking the acceleration lead for over a decade if I’m not mistaken. Go Detroit 3. ATW! Yay!!!
Great to see the channel continue to grow figuratively and literally 👌 From 1/8 of a mile to +1/4, from press vehicles and rentals to an entire fleet! 👍 From manufacturer designed test courses to TFL's own proving ground @ Tumbleweed Ranch! 🤯 and I can't leave out lil Roman to Tommy! 😅 The TFL crew is doing an incredible job 👏 👏👏
Thank you for the kind words and the support.
I would like to see this test done with the high output cummins. You guys should definitely do that.
Likely be the slowest of the bunch
@@galaxyfz We know it would be. That’s not in question. But it would be closer than the SO arguably. It’s down 70 and 100hp and 100-200 torque
It wouldn't help, Dodge trucks suck
@@moparproud3978 Yes, I agree with that. It would be great to se a SO vs HO cummins race. I'd bet from a dig the SO would take it. The HO might take a 30mph roll race.
You can only get that in the 3500 and up
I knew the Ram would lose BUT what was most impressive was how well it kept up with these trucks, despite being down substantially in power and gears. Yes, the 3.73s help, but not the HP and torque deficit that it has.(**reallllyy wish this was a H.O. w/ Aisin for true apples to apples).
The Chevy was impressive off the line and through the race, which makes one wonder when they update the Duramax next year, will it be the true hot-rod HD!?
And of course rhe Ford's endless torque was going to bring it towards the end.
Hp is what pulled it to the end ...higher rpms is hp !
I knew the Cummins was going to lose. Cummins is slow and steady. The other two trucks are more peppy by nature.
I agree, the high output would help. The Ram is quick for what it is, but it is still an inline 6 playing with V8 engines. It shines while towing.
I didn't expect the ford to win lol. It doesn't have much bottom end power but damn that thing just killed it with top end speed.
@@jontorrie2212
LOL @ "doesn't have much bottom end power."
Impressive how close they all are, I am a Ram fan all day long and have a 19 with the 6.7. Pretty impressed how nimble it actually is..
I hope you keep an eye on your cp4 pump. Love rams too but just watch out.
@@smokestack9033 O believe me I am.. It only rolled 30,000 Km and is on the list for a replacement

Know how spunky they feel with less weight under the truck the way a diesel is intended 💁🏻♂️
I’ve been waiting for this race since the 2020 F250 diesel came out and you finally did it. Awesome guys!
I really wish you would test the 1-tons against each other instead. Everyone knows the ram is detuned in the 2500, and I would love to see the HO ram 3500 against the rest so it’s biggest and best from each. Please do this in the future!!
I agree guys please do this race...
The HO Cummins with the aisin trans is way slower than the standard output Cummins. The aisin is not a racing transmission by any means.
@@SAVAGECUMMINS it’s more powerful. Notice I said with trailers? And for the record none of the Grammys are racing trannys. Fact of the mayter is, that engine is more powerful. With a trailer it will perform much better than the non HO Cummins

Love the new drag race location…..you guys keep upping your game
Hmmm. I'd put the Duramax before the Powerstroke in case the cummins gets there to early.
I think Roman is getting to that age where the dad jokes turn into dirty old man jokes.
Love it. You guys have come a long ways from Roman and Nathan taking turns riding in the bed of trucks around the neighborhood.
I remember that review
Andre is cool. All of you guys are great. Thank you for all of your content over the years.
Would have been nicer to see more details. Like are you guys preloading the turbos? Idk about these trucks but my f150 and my current 19 GT the traction control has to be held for some time to totally disengage traction control and stability. I have a feeling all three trucks with preloaded turbos that PowerStroke is walking them car lengths 💁🏻♂️
Super glad you guys said the transmission and most importantly the REAR END RATIO makes it so much more interesting that despite being gear the lowest the dodge was not the quickest off the line
it is not a Dodge it is a Ram
You know, in the real world, all these are pretty close. All of these are great options.
I find it really hard to believe a low output Cummins could keep up with the power stroke at the beginning
None of them brake boosted off the line so you are just see difference in the amount of time required for each truck to come on boost.
Ford detunes the PowerStroke in first and second gear.

Ford detunes its engine in 1st and 2nd gear to save the drivetrain. It shows when the second half of the race it starts pulling on the Chevy.
All of them pull power. The chassis of the chevy seems to put the power down better.
GM doesn’t.
@@andrewjones6014 gm does. They had massive tm in my old 03 6.0 2500hd.
No doubt the ford accelerated better once moving. But to be honest that's the least of the worries among these 3. Ride comfort, noise control, interior comfort and fuel efficiency all make up a buyers mind more than all out acceleration when all 3 has more than enough power to pull a house. And way more than enough power to pull more than they should with single rear tires.
Got into an argument with a Dodge guy. He tried to argue that the 2022 6.7 Cummins had 1600f/p of torque. I was laughing as he was shoveing his phone in my face. What an idiot.

What does a detune involve? You mean lower the hp?
It would make sense for an owner of a company to want the Fords detuned. Most employees would drive the crap out of them, so if you limit the power, the drive tran will last longer. But for a regular person they would never voluntarily go get their power output turned down.

Keep up the good work guys. Great show today.
I’m a Ford guy but the Power Stroke has its concerns. The body build quality is fantastic along with the interior construction and probably by far the best of the three. It needs that Cummins to completely dominate..
