Because they have bigger engines, better gear ratio, way more gears, and the best tires. Just the big diameter of the tire gives them a giant advantage
Traction and gearing is all that matters. Weight is a factor in traction but not the only factor. 2 million pounds on ice may have less traction than 2000 pounds on asphalt with the right tires. So a riding lawn mower with the right gearing and traction could pull a monster truck with the wrong gearing or wrong traction.
As a truck owner it's all about weight and traction. Torque comes into play once you can get the traction but if you don't have the weight in the bed your never going to get enough grip to get the full potential of the available torque.
Not just wait but also tires. I don't care how heavy you are if you have horrible tires you're not going anywhere. The thing the weight does is push the tires down into the ground to make them do their thing but if the tires are weak putting my weight on it isn't going to do anything.
For example if they were to develop some super sticky tires that have let's say 100 times the grip of any tire we have now a 3000 lb truck could easily pull a big heavy duty truck with way more power because the truck with these crazy tires will be able to use every single bit of its power while the big heavy duty truck is only going to be able to use part of its power and if it's slippery it might be half of its power or less.

I must say, I do not think it is the almost 1,5kNm of torque, but the heavier vehicle that made it possible to tug the Ford that easily. Torque would usually just spin the wheels, except when you have immensely more grip (due to weight). But this is also due to the characteristic of a Diesel engine being able to pull at low rpms. The V6 has to have a much higher rpm to generate torque which subsequently results in an easier loss of grip.
I might be wrong, but I don’t think that’s how it works, because of the transmission. The transmission makes it so that even revving at 5000 in the gas truck, your wheels can be moving at the same speed as the diesel truck revving at 1500
The weight of the vehicle is what allows you to reach the potential of whatever torque your truck has available. So you're right, more right means more traction and therefore more torque is available to use.

@@cskipper65 Yes traction is a function of weight, friction and contact area. Friction is a function of weight and the coefficient of friction. Coefficient of friction is governed by the tire material
Running a Cummins against a gas engine is unfair. They are different classes of trucks. The diesel has about twice the torque which is all that you need for towing.
The issue is you have a fast off-road truck in the Raptor, a plain jane Chevy Silverado and a Dodge diesel heavy duty truck, they all do different things well. For the Dodge you would have to pull against a Powerstroke and a Duramax, for the Chevy you would pull against an F150 and Ram 1500 and for the Raptor you would have to pull against a T-Rex, there is no Chevrolet analogue.
There's an art to doing this, you wait for the other vehicle to start spending their tires and then you slowly press the gas on yours, you will pull them
I learned something today. If you take a truck that is heavier and has wider and more aggressive tread on the tires and it will pull more than one that is lighter and has less tire.
What you Brits don't know about truck pulling in mud is keeping the tyre tread cleaned out with wheel speed. That Z-71 can yank that Raptor all over the place, but YOU didn't clean the tread out by feathering the throttle. And honestly, if me and you hooked up with that diesel and me in that Z-71, and you drove it the way you did in the video, you'd get dragged by a half ton. Also, unless you dump 40 grand into that Cummins, you can't smack the throttle like you can on a gasser to keep the tread cleared out.

Actually the Ram 3500 is a 1 ton
A raptor shouldn’t be in this pull as it’s towing capacity is lower than a normal F-150. I haven’t watched this yet but this seems like an awkward comparison.
The raptor makes 700 hp do its fare
@@Entze228 The standard Raptor puts out 450hp.... The 700 hp Raptor R won't be physically available until November.
I agree
You can’t do the 3500 against the ford because is only a f-150 so that isn’t fair
Awesome video even those these models are quite different from eachother. Ford has plenty of 4 year old v8s in f150s, as does ram in an equivalent 1500. Would love to see some videos like that. F150 vs 1500 Chevy vs 1500 ram, f250 vs 2500s, f350 vs 3500s, etc etc
Well this was a pleasant unexpected surprise, as an American... Great vid Matt, looks like you had some fun man.. gosh i LOVE that color on the Raptor.. Be safe enjoy your day!
The most American thing that a British person would do
This is like the only time ever Mat won a Tug of War battle.
Hit me up👆👆👆📩📥.
And had to do it with a diesel
Legends say mat in the ram is still pulling the raptor😂😂
Hit me up👆👆👆📩📥.
Well yeah I mean the Raptor isn’t meant for towing.
First of all that is a 2500 vs a F150! 😂
There's A new Silverado called the ZR2 which has 650HP and 881 NM OF TORQUE from a 6.2 Litre V8 from The Camaro ZL1
The Silverado ZR2 will have the same 420hp 6.2 N/A V8 as the regular Silverado
@@HughRussell06 Yep, you are correct. Same motor in my GMC Sierra 1500 Denali. The ZR2 must just have a little tune on it to get that extra 30hp.
"This may seem a little bit unfair but I DON'T CARE."
Mat Watson, January 2022.
Definitely try and get a Toyota Hilux to test
As much as I love seeing Dodge win.... tires can make all the difference in a tug of war test... Not so much power.
Tires yes but weight is probably an even bigger factor for the 2500.
@@cskipper65 you can't use weight to your advantage if you can't transfer it to the ground
@@TristynRusselo weight adds better traction to the ground.
@@cskipper65 Yes traction is a function of weight, friction and contact area. Friction is a function of weight and the coefficient of friction. Coefficient of friction is governed by the tire material
@@TristynRusselo the tire were not drastically better on the Dodge is my point. The weight made the biggest difference.
Great video. Nothing like a good tug of war video to start the day.
My thoughts exactly

@@alexbradley5835 me top this one.
I’m a dodge fan but the Cummins would win 100 times over vs a gas v6
Oh yeah Mat is definitely putting the YEE in Yeehaw with these cool pickups :D. Rematch with the EV versions of the F150 and Silverado? :)

First
Running a Cummins against a gas engine is unfair.
There's an art to doing this, you wait for the other vehicle to start spending their tires and then you slowly press the gas on yours, you will pull them
This video is kinda of a waist these trucks aren't even close in comparison
Put the F350 on that GMC and you will fined out
He said f 150 Silverado 💀
doing this on grass seems useless
I learned something today. If you take a truck that is heavier and has wider and more aggressive tread on the tires and it will pull more than one that is lighter and has less tire.
I love how the RAM 3500 just pulled the Raptor like it was a dirt bike
😂
More Dodge Rams
Hmmm diesel and at least 1000 more pounds of steel versus the raptor.
That Raptor didn’t even stand a chance against the Ram 😂😂😂
Tundra vs f150, that's what everyone especially toyota fan boys want to see
What you Brits don't know about truck pulling in mud is keeping the tyre tread cleaned out with wheel speed.
American here. Down here in the south we take pride in our trucks. This is why everything tastes and smells like diesel, degreaser, and balls the wall.
Comparing a 1/2 ton "Station Wagon " to a real truck!
You can't do a good truck tug of war in grass, you gotta get on the streets.💯😎👍 #Facts
What about ram, chevy, and ford diesel trucks
Try that on dry pavement…no contest
The Dodge RAM was like a stepdad pulling that Raptor home from being out on the piss.
