It’s time for an all-American showdown!
Mat and Racing Driver Sam have flown over to Texas to get their hands on a pair of Hennessy powerhouses, and they’re set to go head-to-head on Hennessey’s own drag strip!
So let’s see how these two contenders compare. First off, we have Mat in the Hennessey Mammoth, which is based on the Dodge RAM TRX. It comes with a 6.2-litre supercharged V8, but the power output has been increased to 1,012hp and 1,314Nm of torque! Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and this HUGE pick-up tips the scales at 2,921kg!
Then we have the Hennessey H1000 Charger. It comes with pretty much the same engine as the Mammoth, so it has a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that can put down 1,000hp and 1,285Nm. It comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels only, and it weighs in at 2,086kg.
So the Charger isn’t exactly light, but will the weight difference prove decisive over the quarter-mile? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

The irony is that if the Charger had less horse power it would get off the line a lot quicker.

I really love the new camera perspective where you look over the driver’s shoulder through the windshield! Gives you more of a vibe where you’re driving it yourself.

I mean when you use a platform dating way back, it’s not hard to make a car heavy. That’s why the Charger and Challenger are so heavy because they use a platform from an old E class.
The Germans make them light the French etc so nah American cars are just fat and heavy but like the country really
The exhaust rumble of this pair at low-to-mid revs is heavenly...more than makes up for their foibles...
What about a 7 way drag race lobby featuring exotic supercars?
Loved the way the back end of that Mammoth sat down down as it launched. That truck is ridiculously quick for the 3 tonne behemoth that it is!
Cars are definitely one part that I watch your videos but its more for you Mat, you are great❤😊
Suggestions for improvements;
1. Trap speed for 1/4 and 1/2 mile
2. Accelerating and braking G’s
3. Braking distance
4. 0-62 mph time
Bear in mind they already have all of this data available through the vbox (specialist timing gear). It simply needs to be implemented. Would be a nice touch and little additional effort.

I feel that Sam is really the better driver, and the charger was a bitch to race. Matt launches well but might be overwhelmed with the handling. I can only imagine this car in the hands of a noob or teenager...

Guy really really hates losing.
Remember they’re testing the cars, not the driver, so switching up cars is absolutely necessary to see which is fastest.
Going over about 600HP in the Charger without drag radials doesn't improve performance from a dig. If you have drag slicks on a prepped track, yes, you will turn great times. But if you are on street tires, adding 300HP to the Hellcat is useless under 100mph
Probably good for rolling races
It still will make no defference even with slicks or less horsepower the problem is traction and weight distrubution and heavy. Its just american cars are not made great with bad traction or to heavy or bad weight distrubution
This is BS I have a tuned a hellcat with around 900hp on slicks, runs low 10s easily on the street or on a drag strip doesn't matter. It's fine if you dislike american cars but dont talk out of your ass when there are plenty of hellcats running 9s and 10s in the quarter mile with slicks and over 600hp. Why not put a 1000HP in an AWD Charger??
V8 doesn't come with awd. Only v6. I'm not completely sure but i think Hennessy only tunes up the car you have. Maybe they do engine swap but you would have to call the company and ask.
Imagine Chargers and Challengers being awd with a rwd option. Those things would be murdering others off the line.

That power in a charger is unless without a sticky radial and beadlock in the rear. The TRX, is nuts. The fact it’s making that power while going up from a 35’ to 37’ tire is mental. As a modified TRX owner I can attest that these trucks are insane.

I disagree 100%. I don't think he has the slightest clue. Always has an excuse. That's the easiest car to drift. He can't shift. He can't launch. He has no clue how to drag or what setting is best. It's his job, and he fails over and over and over. Go to previous vids, you'll see what I mean.

MOPAR🔥Tip: it’s best to let the car shift itself and not use the paddle shifters, the car shifts faster through the gears than you can.

Power delivery has got nothing to do with the speed of the shift.. in terms of this occasion.. the problem was the car not being able to put its power down, not that the shifts were slowing it, on a side note the paddles shift exactly the same speed as its the same gearbox system either changing in auto or manual.. I was using the paddles for a specific reason 👍

Power to weight ratio is a very interesting thing because it's the fundamental of physics and it's results are mind blowing. Mercedes AMG a45 S has 2 lt 4 cyl 421 hp engine and it does the 1/4 mi in 12.3 sec as well as the mammoth which has 6.2 lt v8. Fascinating stuff indeed.
Yes but the heavier vehicle won here ,despite having the same power, because it had better traction which is equally important.

There are a lot more variables, physics is indeed very complicated :)), as tire size, tire width, tire profile, tread pattern, gearbox gearing, aerodynamics, suspension, tarmac, ambient temperature, fuel and there are a lot more :))) wheel weight and so on :))), but there again, CarWow drag-races are not something scientific, just some blokes having fun, for proper stuff, CarWow is not the way to go, to compare cars, it's just entertaining.

Having driven a Charger R/T Scat pack in the US as a rental (Basically an SRT without the supercharger)... I love the Chargers. So my choise would be the Charger. Even though it's heavy, it's a perfectly practical car, lots of space, huge trunk, and great looks. Only car allowed to have rear lights that run the entire rear in my opinion :-D
There is the one massive elephant in the room though, the ungodly amount of fuel they use! Couldn’t use one every day
