It's another all-American DRAG RACE! 🇺🇸
This time we have the new and mighty Corvette Z06 going up against the fantastic Ford GT.
Let's get into the stats. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 uses a 5.5 litre naturally aspirated flat-plane crank V8 that puts out 670HP and 625NM of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed Dual Clutch gearbox and it weighs in 1,585KG.
The Ford GT is fitted with a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 that outputs 650HP and 750NM of torque. Power again goes to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed Dual Clutch gearbox and it weighs in at just 1,385KG!
So will the newer and much cheaper Z06 take the win or will the mighty Ford GT prove its worth and put the Corvette in its place? LET'S RACE and FIND OUT!!! 🏁

Years back in high school I met Camilo briefly when he took a ford gt to our highshool down in the RGV. One of my favorite cars of all time.
Camilo is a really awesome guy, haha. Very intelligent person, wealth of knowledge on car design. He also redesigned the bumpers on the 03-04 cobra. You guys were very lucky to have to him on the show.

I’m surprised the GT wasn’t in V Max mode drops the wing down to its lowered position and reduces the drag for drag racing it would have pulled even harder! I have so much love for both of these pieces of art though

@@dennissmith7214 it was already dropped in race mode. You can see how low it is. Vmax mode just lowers the spoiler for less drag. It definitely would have helped.

Probably the best video yet. I love your posts. Everything about them. The right amount of tech, spec, humor and excitement. You have a pleasant voice also. I love the Ford GT. But it costs so much more than the Z06 that it's shameful. Almost makes me angry that a Vette that performs like that costs so much less than my R8 did. Oh well. Closest race yet that I've seen and one that I could not have predicted. Thank you

When I first saw the new ZO6 a few years back in pictures, I thought it was the new Ford GT from the side view and then saw the front and realized it was a Corvette. The Z06 is a bargain and the Ford GT is unattainable unless you are not only very rich but famous as well. Ford is very selective on who gets to own them from new. I love the fact that we have two American supercars to compete with the world.

Camilo Pardo is someone I have admired since I was studying Automotive Design at CCS and got to meet him in 2011. He is calm and dedicated to his craft of art and design and a solid guy. Some of the comments were brutal and kind of sad. The greatest moment I had one day was seeing 2 Heritage Edition Gulf Livery Ford GTs side by side in the parking structure and knew one was Camilo’s and the other belong to my teacher Kyle Evans. Camilo also had Carroll Shelby sign his car before he passed away and he was good friends with him and was a major loss to the community.

Cause they had no professional behind the wheel of the Vette. I've seen Carrera S do a quarter mile of 11.2 seconds before, let alone a base C8 with proper launch.

Not sure if this is true but I've read GM has built the electronics to sense someone messing with them and it bricks the car. So if true you really can't TT it since you can't alter the programming.
Na y'all tripping. Like they said it goes for $500k and everyone knows Ford GTs go up in value not lose it. It's a great investment since some people are willing to pay top dollar for certain models like the gt40 from McQueen sold for 11 mill 😬
@@bmstylee Every car produced has tamper proofing built into it from factory. The manufacturers don't want you in the computers messing with, primarily, anything that has to do with emissions. However, there are a lot of smart dudes in the racing business that know their way around computers. If that doesn't work, there's always standalone ECUs. An engine is simply an air pump.

So was the C8 vette put into track mode? traction control off? because I have drove and installed nitrous etc on C8 vettes and from what I am seeing, this Z06 was left in Granda mode ...

It's more expensive because the gt was a limited edition, while z06 is only limited to 10% of corvette c8 production line. Sure thing like this will be added to the price.
@dealdough_ The GT price is not realistic. It doesn't matter how limited it is. In terms of performance, the Z06 is not so far behind. I work at O'gara coach we sell nothing but cars average folks can't afford, I will still go for Z06 over most of the brands we sell.

Camilo was an art major that specialized in automotive design, he’s never bragged about being a race car driver or mechanic. So yeah, kind of bad look for them to put him in this position even after examining him knowing he wouldn’t be the best driver or person to express and explain the vehicle mechanically.

Wow that’s a total fast and furious move… “ too soon junior” as the nitrous gets pressed. Clearly the turbos in the GT is what kept it creeping up to the C8 and take it in the end .
Great cars! Loved it! I also like the 3rd gen over 2nd. And its very close to besting the OG but nothing beats it. The OG is ONE OF THE NICEST LOOKING CARS OF ALL TIME. Defs in my top 5. Number 1. 1972 HQ Holden Monaro 2door. And for future rolling starts, have a line with maybe a go light on it, then get even at 50 before the line then gun it at the line. Or a 3rd party button that starts a beeping start sequence in both cars. Because one person doing the count is very biased even if you try not to be. Only you can know the exact moment when you say go and then you don't have a reaction time basicly. While the other guy has to hear the go then react. So bigger reaction time.

I was there that day. Had my Super Performance Cobra. Was supposed to go up against a Super Performance GT40. That Corvette was AWSOME!! beat that GT six ways from Sunday. When it was finally my turn to run I get my Cobra to the line and they say "You are not going to drive your car" I said "that is not happening" So did the owner of the GT40. They did let us get two runs down the runway. No cameras, no nothing. ALL the emails from Peterson made it sound like I would be driving my car. This ride was a 56 year dream come true. No way was anybody but me going to drive her. Same for the guy is the GT40. So much for the Peterson Museum.

The GT once it gets up past 100 mph or so basically slips through the air like an airplane with the crazy body design it has and the past through quarters on it. Its a awesome design for sure!!!!

Z06 is somewhat achievable to own. Love the engine noise. Ford GT is a beautiful car for ultra wealthy. Great video.
z06 doesn't have you fill a forum out and HOPE you get picked to spend 500k which then you have to sign a form to agree to not sell it for 2-3 years.

Chevy really does deserve all the praise they've received since the C8 launch. Hats off to them, these Corvettes have been doing some crazy things since they came out! Gen 3 FGT still an absolute dream car though haha.

It would be interesting seeing the final edition of the Ford GT, the Mk IV track beast with 800 horsepower making both 1/4 & 1/2 mile passes with a better driver because designing and driving are two completely different tasks. Why did the Ford GT driver brake early during the 1/2 mile pass ?

Mat Watson is an absolute moron; 'that's the difference between naturally aspirated, and twin turbos' - no. The reason why the Corvette has (relatively) low torque is because it's a flat plane crank. The regular C7 has almost identical torque/horsepower numbers, the Viper (normally aspirated) has high torque, etc.,

That's the GM guys answer to all vehicles. "Cheap horse power." They forget that eventually, they get older. That's where Ford truly wins. While you may have gotten more "cheap horse power" initially. In the end, you're going to spend countless hours and money. Trying to keep the cheap vehicles running. Fords cost more because they're built to last. Corvette is nothing more than a rich rednecks car. The Ford GT is a pure American Supercar. Its target is not one American made vehicle. Its target is the European supercars. Corvette isn't even in the same realm as the Ford GT.

My Wife has a ZO6 Vette I have a 71 Pantera a 408ci Cleveland Stroker with a Paxton Belt drive Supercharger.
Recently I went to a track day with my C7 Z51 corvette. A gentlemen brought his new GT. He paid 1.6 mill for it. WOW, that's crazy! I'd definitely go for the ZO6 based on bang for the buck value.
GM fan but always loved the GT40 (especially the 60s original). Given the price differential, the Corvette acquitted itself extremely well.
Especially when on a road course like Nuremberg ring it can't even beat the camaro

The biggest downer with the Ford GT is that EcoBoost engine. That car was way more deserving of a more exotic V-8 engine than the tuned Raptor motor it got.

I DRIVE a 2012 ford fusion sport with the almost same 3.5L V6 as the GT. no turbo though. not a square inch under the hood for a turbo anyway. so that said - i want the vette.
The Corvette is like the practical supercar. It’s $400k less than the Ford GT, yet it throws down serious performance. Imagine those freeway races. The Corvette’s rolling race game is on point. And if I had enough money to buy a ford gt I’d instead drop 100k into tweaking the Z06 like Hennessy’s corvette, and you’ve got a street beast that could leave the Ford GT and other supercars in the dust. Corvette FTW, especially when you factor in that for what the full potential of the corvette could be.
Just wait for the zr1.
Hennessey unfortunately stopped doing stuff on the z06 but I agree. You really could do something with that kind of value. Hopefully if the ZR1 comes out they'll have something in the works for that

I totally agree. The Corvette is the sports car of the future, it has a lot of room for growth, without affecting the final cost.
In the end, it's just another piece of shit from GM. Cheap horse power always fails. The GT and other super cars you refer to. Will outlast and out perform the high anything GM comes out with. Especially over time, when GM always fails. There's no way I'd throw that kind of money on anything from GM.

I've always been a Ford guy and the Ford GT is one of my all-time favorites. But you have to be impressed at how well the Z06 performs at a fraction of the price.

Im a real gm guy and I when you compared 550k car to 130k and the one that is over 41/2 times as much is just slightly, faster, sounds worse. And is less mechanical reliable and not at all easy to work on. The ford is garbage any real gm guy would know that. Your just a paid actor

@@bananaramainpajams you realize there's no videos of a Ford GT going as fast as a z06 down the 1/4 stock to stock 😂 so yes I'm surprised a 10.8 second car was able to beat a 10.6 second car in such a margin
Wow. I’m even more impressed with Corvette. For a barely 6 figure car to do that well against a 7 figure car is impressive. That GT is a work of art. Saw one in the lobby of the Lemay America’s Car Museum. Gorgeous! Even better in the flesh.
I'm a Corvette fan from way back, and love the new Mid engine Vettes... wish I could afford one. That being said, I love even more, that Corvette is able to compete with and beat supercars that are 3 and 4 times the price.
