I am speechless. 3 months of not being able to play football/soccer and nothing helped. Did this for a couple of days and i could train without feeling anything yesterday again. I am so grateful
Man, you saved my life!!! I'm a year 9 basketball player and been having shin splint for over a month. Stopped training but still hurts a lot when playing. After using gua sha for two days, my pain is gone!! And now I can run on the court as usual! All I can say is I love you man!! Thank you for this amazing video!!
Omg!!! This really really worked!! I used some massage oil from CVS and the back of a wide toothed comb. It was SO painful at first but I tried to do 15-20 mins on each leg. Sometimes I couldn’t do it every day because it was so sore from the day before but after about a week it got much better and now it’s gone. If I feel the area getting a little tight I preemptively “scrape” it just to move everything around. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! It’s so nice to run again. 🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️

A week of daily scraping (morning and evening), I was back into running. I still have to do it before running. This is a game changer. Thank you so much
Just writing to say I love you. Tried this after suffering from shin splints for awhile and this worked like a charm. hard to believe, a true life saver! thanks man
Was injured for a whole year, couldn't run. Started guasha and in 2 months finished my first half marathon race with no shin splint pain at all! Thank you so much!
This technique helped me in a matter of 2 weeks and it does take a couple of days to start feeling it but it does work 100% It is not a fake video Thank you
I’ve been running on and off for the past 9 months. Constantly taking time off due to posterior shin splints. I’m definitely gonna give this a try. Thank you!
Vicky Jangir this technique has actually helped so much. Went from not being able to run at all. To running a few times a week with ease now. Even when I used to feel the shin splints coming on it would take FOREVER for them to go away. This makes the pain go away pretty much instantly if done correctly.
I have done literally everything beforehand. One year of resting, icing, prehab exercises (which I still do and will continue forever), but nothing released the pressure around my shin (posterior). I am very, very bruised- but... I am back to running with absolutely no pain at all! Thank you so much!
I’ve done this TWICE….TWICE so far and the results were better than 10 physio appointments……THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I play soccer and for the past 5 months I have shin splints..I just couldn’t run as fast as I could until I found that video…I’ll definitely keep doing this routine and i’ll update you guys in case someone else comes up to this masterpiece uptade: Sadly after the 3rd time I did that, I had severe pain and had to stop doing it...i feel like i caused a microfracture there, that did not exist before
After breaking my leg two times in the space of 2 years i got back into football. Really struggled with shin splints for the next 2 years after i started playing again. Thank you so much for this, it really saved my ass and i finally can play pain free again. It took like a solid month after doing this every day but for like the last year the shin splints have disappeared.. At first my calves were black and blue with the amount of scar tissue build up over the years, but after the first week it got better by the day. You are really a hero my guy :)
So glad you got rid of them! I've been dealing with knee pain for 6 months now and I've finally got it almost completely healed. For someone that lives for sports the feeling of relief when you finally heal is hard to put into words. It makes me happy knowing I could help get you get rid of your shin splints!
Dude, you are a true hero! This is the only real solution I found after suffering from shin splints for about 2 years. I did 1 up to 6 months' breaks from running, but they were always coming back on the first or second training. I have also spent a ton of money on promising "heal-shin-splints" items, with no results at all. You deserve much more views! Liked, subscribed and everything. I am going to copy this message to your other shin-splints' video as well. Truly thank you!
I’ve suffered with posterior shin splints since 2008. (Military ) I still serve and cross train instead of running usually. I’ll run maybe 3-5 miles a week to keep myself ready for pt, but recently after running 6 miles in 1 week my shin splints have come back and it sucks so bad! I’m trying this method starting today! Thx
I've only been running 12 months and have recently started getting shin splints so badly that I've almost quit running entirely. I'm going to try this and hope for the best!

@@zkhater63 I cant remember exactly. maybe around 1 months daily scraping for 1 hour. the more the pain decreases while scraping the more its a sign of heeling.
Hats off to you David,I tried this few months back and now I am able to run quite a distance. However,I must emphasize that pre and post work out stretching is extremely important and we should strengthen all parts of our leg from toe to calf to thighs to gluts
I did a bit of foam rolling on my shins which helped a lot for my shin splits (suffered with it for as long as I can remember). But now I’m going to try this for a month to properly get into the issue, then hopefully afterwards I can just do the foam rolling to keep everything in check.
@@zkhater63 it didn't cure my shin splints, but it did reduce the symptoms by a significant amount. If you're doing a lot of physical acitivity like running or sports, then doing this regularly and consistently willl prevent shin splints, or at the very least reduce the pain.
I just wanted to comment and say I found this video this past week after dealing with posterior shin splints for a few months now. I ordered a Gua Sha massager on Amazon and used it once last night for maybe 10-15 minutes. I used it with baby oil since that’s what I had on hand. I woke up with some redness on the posterior area which seems normal. I decided to go for a light 2 mile run today and had NO PAIN either before during or after the run. This legit works. Save yourself the time and pain and get one of these!! Thank you for doing this video. 🙏🏻
Thanks for sharing this. Your symptoms and experience with long term pain is crazy similar to mine so hoping this brings some relief. Couple questions for you - 1) Do you focus more scraping on the effected areas or areas that are more ‘bumpy’ or seem to be more rough? 2) I just did this for first time but could only go about 5-10 min per leg, so you build up a tolerance somewhat fast to longer time scraping? Thanks man appreciate your time with this.
Holy shit, I love you man! This worked amazingly after a few days! I even managed to run my first half marathon yesterday, and I am finally shinsplints-free!
Is it really work brother @Akash Singh.... My running is near to come (sub inspector) but due to this shin I m not able to run ... Can Walk with little pain but whenever trying to run it will pressure (pain) at one spot Please guide me...brother...it's all about my life

First time I did this it completely took my pain away. I saw your other video on it. I ended up buying a tool off amazon and I’ll be doing this for the rest of my life. It feels amazing and I can’t believe how well it works.
First off this works like magic. I love you im stupid and never took stretching seriously now. Now im sitting down using a publix cake cutter smooth side for 1 hour. So glad this works
Thank you thank you thank you! 2 years ago i ran a half marathon and felt nothing. There was no shin splints. But after all these couch patato pandemic days this shitty injury happened to me. I spend thousands on doctors but it kept coming back, only 2 thing worked. 1- Special insoles 2-Graston. The second one is similar to your system but i had no idea how can i do graston therapy on my own. I watched nearly 100 video about this i can easily say this method of yours is the best thing i watched. This is so easy to do your own and works 100%. All i can say is thank you man. Big thank you. ALSO LISTEN EVERYONE WHO SUFFER FROM THIS! YOU SHOULD DO HIPS WORK OUT AND YOU SHOULD DO "ISOLATED" QUAD WORK OUTS. I said isolated because if you suffer from shin splints you should do leg curl instead of squat.
I’m no expert but in my running journey I had to overcome the same problem. David’s technique here works wonders. Like you I wanted answers. Luckily my local running supplies shop helped. After going for a running gait analysis used when your purchasing shoes we discovered that my foot rotates inward and I land each step on my last two to three toes ball joint. Fore foot running. So walk on my heals for 3 mins x3 sets on my rest days and bought running shoes to elongate the tibialis tendon slight build up on the outer edge of the soles. Also bent knee calf raises to strengthen the soleis muscle. Also one big reveal was that the shop see this a lot (right leg only posterior shin splints). Our area uk countryside has convex old roads and we’re taught to run towards traffic. But as the road slopes away this makes that tendon short on every run. Hope this helps too! 👍
Did this for a week, I bought one of those Gua sha scrapers, and it just made my shin splints worse, I don’t know if maybe I did it wrong but my shin splints hurt a lot more than they usually do.
Hello! Omg this really worked! THANK YOU!! I was so desperate, I'd had had shint splints for 9 months. They started when i was doing loads of jump rope. I tried loads of things to get myself better including resting and physiotherapy, which just made my shins much more painful. I've always been totally addicted to running and i was so miserable because i couldn't do anything, not even swimming or walking, without my shin splints getting worse. It has taken three months of scraping and gradually getting back to exercise to get back to normal but i honestly feel like I'm totally cured now! I will never stray far from my trusty scraper though, just in case! Thank you so much for sharing this technique, it's a total lifesaver.
Started with the scraping and adter a few days i can tell that this works! Normally after playing football i have pain in my shins. Did it for a few days and there is almost no pain after playing football!
David - I am counting on you. I like what you say and I started the process today 8.3.17. So far so good. I will give you an update in one month and in 2 months after i run the Chicago Marathon.
@@Redeemh Sorry guys, I never knew these responses were here. Chicago 2017 was my first marathon and I crashed and burned for several reasons but not just shin splints. I tried this method and even had dry needling that year but there was/is no magic cure. My shin splint problems come back periodically but I seem to be able to control them now. For me and not necessarily everyone, I think that shin splints and Achilles injuries have a lot to do with arch support. Orthotics actually helped to cure my Achilles problem but then a new pair actually caused my shin splints. To keep my feet from falling into a rut (so to speak), I rotate shoes. I have at least 6 different brands with different arch support and heel drops to keep my lower legs and feet active. I also use inserts for my arch support. I do have my favorites for shoes and support; however, I feel the rotation helps me.
Just ordered the tools, fingers crossed. I have had shin splints for over 2 years now and stopped training several times but always come back when I get back to playing rugby.
Do the scraping and a lot fo stretching. Take a month off while you do them and then gradually go back to running/training and try to only run on softer surfaces for awhile

@@originaljamtracks happy for you , can you please tell me how long did it take you to heal and how many times you did the scraping and for how long each leg ? and did you make any exercises beside scraping? Sorry for asking a lot of questions but as you know the pain is so bothering
@@zkhater63 hi zyad, this was about two years ago and I haven't had the issue recur agai , so I can't recall totally accurately how long I kept up with the scraping. I'd say it was about 2-3 weeks consistently, combined with rest and stretching regularly. Also calf raises helped a lot too. I think a major factor as well for me was trying out different types of running shoes and seeing what works best for your particular anatomy. I've been though all sorts now - from high cushion, high drop shoes to neutral minimum drop, and everything in between. What I eventually found to work best for me - contrary to what I expected - was actually NOT to use supported shoes but rather go with a more neutral shoe like ASICS novablast. Since going the more neutral route and stretching correctly before each run, shin splints have been totally gone for me. Your mileage may vary and the shoes that work for me may very well not suit you and the specific anatomy of your feet. But I would definitely recommend trying as many different types of running shoes as possible and ideally get some professional fitting advice at a running shop. Hope it works out for you

Thank God for this video.....I have not been able to run for weeks. I saw this video and started scraping and the pain is almost gone. How long should I wait before going back to running???
It depends on how bad your shin splints were. I'd take a minimum of a week off before you slow start getting back into running. And run on soft surfaces at first like a field with good grass or a turf field.
I’ve been doing this a few days and works great. Pretty gross though I see some of the knots of my muscles moving down through my leg as a scrape. Looks like a bug caught underneath my skin
Hey David, Thank You for helping hundreds like me. I tried this technique Very Aggressively all over Shin / Posterior Tibial bone 7 days ago for approx. 45 mins just as shown in the video. Next morning i woke up with severe pain and i still can barely touch the bone. Please advise a) is it normal b) what could be the possible cause of this prolonged pain. I couldn't think about scrapping again in that pain
Thanks so much. I was having trouble hobbling around the house. Did 10 minutes of this and was able to walk a pain free mile. Will be cancelling my PT appointment.
Im taking a running exam next week. Is it advisable to do a mild rehab with this and mild jog every 2 days. I just need to finish a 1.5 miles in 1730mins. Thank's
On to day 3 of scraping after watching this video and I can’t handle the pain any more to continue, my shins feel so tender from scraping and are sore to touch. Gonna take a day off of it then try again. Desperate to help my shin splints! :(
Just take a day off and go easy. Your shins will get use to it after a little while. Are you using something with a smooth edge and oil on your leg when you do it?
Hi David. Want to thank you so much for this video. My daughters always having trouble with shin splints and this has turned out to be the info we needed to beat them. Their toes turn in just like you showed. I have an unrelated question if you happen to know, since you are the smartest guy on the internet. I'm wondering if a track runner can / should lift weights to build leg muscle while getting back to high school track after a year off from running. Or, since lifting weights breaks down muscle that then needs to rebuild, is it best to not lift weights while trying to build running back up.
Glad it helped! Definitely not the smartest guy on the internet but I'll take it 🤣. Two things need to happen, they need to get their body use to running again which should be done carefully and a somewhat slow transition back to full running/training intensity. If not, injuries are likely. As far as improving speed, field and track training doesn't really improve speed for well trained athletes, the main purpose is to condition your body for endurance and running form/technique. Weightlifting (especially squats & hip flexor exercises) is by far the most effective way to improve top speed. If they're trying to do both lifting and running at the same time that can definitely be done. I'd recommend working out legs 3 times but with a low enough intensity that you either don't get sore or it's minimal. Lifting heavier weights for low reps is a good way to do that.
Haha it's pretty uncomfortable especially the first few times you do it. I usually do it for 15mins or so. The more you do it the better though so it's up to you.
David- Were you able to do this every day? After the first time of doing this, I tried but had to wait a few days before I could do it again because my shins were so sore that I could barely even touch them. No question this technique works. But I could only do it once every few days.
Should I scrape on the shin bone as well? I have posterior shin splints like you did, but putting pressure with my fingers on the posterior shin bone hurts like hell. Should I scrape on that spot as well or only muscles surrounding the bone?
Hey man i’ve literally just found your vlog, ive jus ordered myself a massage scraper. The one in your link isn’t delivering to my area as i’m in the UK, but im going to do exactly what you suggest coz ive had shin splints for years!
after using this method i felt better and tried to go for an early morning jug which was usually impossible due to the pain but this time it felt better. however after the light training session i started to feel the pain again even though it was not as painful as before its still there so is this normal. iv only been using this method for 3 days.and should i use it even when i feel the pain
Yes, use it when you feel the pain. And if your shin splints are pretty bad I would use this method everyday and take about 2 weeks off of all running to let it heal.
Hey David I read through many of these comments and it looks like they are very positive review. I have started to try this but wanted to ask a question. My pain is mostly on the interior portion right above and behind the ankle bone. When I run it starts off fine but about 15 minutes or so in this part of my ankle starts to throb and just gets worse and worse and I continue. The reason I ask is this is a bit lower on the leg than where you were scraping and I am not even sure if this is shin splints. I have been running for about 8 months and worked my way up to 10 miles on my large days and 3-5 most every other day. I have been totally out of commission for weeks because of this pain that is not even there when the run starts. What do you think?
hey man, I just started trying your method out and I have two questions: 1. the best time for me to do it would be in the morning, as soon as I wake up, or after I work out. I know that you recommended before the workout, but if I have to choose between these two, which is best? 2. how contracted should be my calves? Should I just use a support for my foot and do it with the normal contraction or should I deliberately tighten my calf? Thanks in advance.
It's probably best if you do it in the morning so that everything is loosened up throughout the day. And your ankle should be bent back with medium tension but not really flexed. You just want the calve muscle tight.
Haffy Ali yeah it really has been. My cald is feeling much more looser and flexible now. I adusted the butter knife and added some duck tape so that it wouldnt be as sharp and that has helped as well
Thanks for this video! Just bought the equipment. I have a question. After about 12-15 mins on each leg, are you supposed to feel the blood flow in the legs? And is it normal for the shins to not feel pain the next day if you are supposed to be breaking up the tendons (only the skin itself is bruised)? Thanks again
Let me know how it works for you! I'm not sure I really understand your questions. I've never really felt the blood flow in my legs, so I guess no? Usually the only pain you feel the next day is skin bruising.
just to see if it is really necessary to do 30 minutes, I did 30 mins for my right shin tendons and 20 for my left, I used some coconut oil and the back of a butter knife and used pressure that was pretty painful, almost unbearable but not exactly 12/4/20
Just started this today myself. Keep us posted! I'll try to report my results too. First session I did 5 minutes each, so I could adapt instead of going hard immediately. Weirdly enough, felt immediate relief. Obviously not 100%, but there's less pain in my walk. I will increase the time over the days.
@@deckyarnold it worked! I tweaked somethings about the original ideals and scraped in a different manner than shown in the video but the main premise works
I stopped running. I think with injuries like this it's best to take a break from it until the pain/soreness is gone from the injury for about 1-2 weeks and then slowly start training again. So for running, I'd start with cleats on soft grass. Only run for about 10mins (not including warm up). Gradually increase intensity and duration from there. Just make sure you back off if you feel the pain coming back at all. That's the optimal way to do it but I know some people can't afford to take that much of a break and it can still work even if you don't. But the likelihood of it not working will be a lot higher.
I don’t know if I’m doing it wrong or what but every time I do it it just hurts more the following day and doesn’t benefit me at all. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
Quick question: Currently, I have been experiencing what I presume shin splints for 2 weeks; the pain only gets worse; this motivated me to try the Gua Sha technique. When I performed it for the second time (about 5 minutes on each leg) I experienced throbbing on both legs - does this mean it is not working or is this part of the process? Is this the ‘bruising’ part, you mentioned?
Have had chronic shin splints for a few years now... Tried this a few days ago on both legs, then the day after. Couldn't do any more because of the pain. Now, 3 days on, I have a small but prominent lump right on the middle of my left tibia - is this normal? Am concerned I should go to a doctor, as my whole shin is painful to the touch, and the existence of a bump is typically not something to ignore
I am speechless. 3 months of not being able to play football/soccer and nothing helped. Did this for a couple of days and i could train without feeling anything yesterday again. I am so grateful

Vicky Jangir this technique has actually helped so much. Went from not being able to run at all. To running a few times a week with ease now. Even when I used to feel the shin splints coming on it would take FOREVER for them to go away. This makes the pain go away pretty much instantly if done correctly.

Couple questions for you -
1) Do you focus more scraping on the effected areas or areas that are more ‘bumpy’ or seem to be more rough?
2) I just did this for first time but could only go about 5-10 min per leg, so you build up a tolerance somewhat fast to longer time scraping?
Thanks man appreciate your time with this.

Sorry guys, I never knew these responses were here.

What is the minimum time?? I start for like 6 min and I really want to cry hahaha

David, Anything you can do to prevent your feet and ankles from naturally turning inward when you walk/run? Is that due to the tightness?
hey man, I just started trying your method out and I have two questions:
1. the best time for me to do it would be in the morning, as soon as I wake up, or after I work out.
+David Duncan ok, thanks!
One of the tools I've been using is the back edge of a butter knife. I just make sure to oil up the shins real good tho.
TrueEggplant has it been helping ?
Haffy Ali yeah it really has been. My cald is feeling much more looser and flexible now. I adusted the butter knife and added some duck tape so that it wouldnt be as sharp and that has helped as well
Haffy Ali But still going to physical theraphy for my leg as I still have pain after a run and still not sure what I've got
Usually the only pain you feel the next day is skin bruising.
going to starrt this on 12/4/20 for 30 mins for each shin and update results
just to see if it is really necessary to do 30 minutes, I did 30 mins for my right shin tendons and 20 for my left, I used some coconut oil and the back of a butter knife and used pressure that was pretty painful, almost unbearable but not exactly 12/4/20
Also the tendons are really tight and almost sore right now 12/4/20
Just started this today myself. Keep us posted! I'll try to report my results too.
First session I did 5 minutes each, so I could adapt instead of going hard immediately. Weirdly enough, felt immediate relief. Obviously not 100%, but there's less pain in my walk. I will increase the time over the days.
@@danielalvarez4047 how were the final results?
@@deckyarnold it worked! I tweaked somethings about the original ideals and scraped in a different manner than shown in the video but the main premise works
Hey David I was wondering if you stopped running for two weeks to scrape it out or you continue to run
Do you have to completely stop all exercise for shin splints to get better . Or could I still play soccer while scraping my shins every day ?
Should I still be running while doing this massage method?
Hey David would a plastic ruler work? That’s all I have. Are there any other household instruments I can use?
I have a game tommorow that I have to play in? Should I do the shin scraping now or just wait until after?
Sorry I didn't see your comment earlier. But I would do it before and after playing. Also the night before.
Sorry if I missed it but do you scrape in both directions? Or only up? Or only down?
Quick question: Currently, I have been experiencing what I presume shin splints for 2 weeks; the pain only gets worse; this motivated me to try the Gua Sha technique. When I performed it for the second time (about 5 minutes on each leg) I experienced throbbing on both legs - does this mean it is not working or is this part of the process? Is this the ‘bruising’ part, you mentioned?
That sounds very normal when doing this. It's honestly pretty painful but it does work.
Did you completely cure?
Have had chronic shin splints for a few years now... Tried this a few days ago on both legs, then the day after. Couldn't do any more because of the pain. Now, 3 days on, I have a small but prominent lump right on the middle of my left tibia - is this normal? Am concerned I should go to a doctor, as my whole shin is painful to the touch, and the existence of a bump is typically not something to ignore
How are you feeling now?
@@vicenteramirez7898 Didn't continue with the scraping after my comment. The bump on my shin is still there, but no more pain really
