I agree but I gotta ad Pyromania to that so for me the first three are the best of Def Leppard! I much prefer the harder stuff anyway! And also agree the Clark/Willis duo was the best!
@@jonathanbatturs6359well I found about them and Slayer about the same time and Hell Awaits makes everything DL sound like garbo.....except Wasted. Wasted is a good song. Give me thrash tho over this shit.
I get it... Trying to push your agenda... Like the Roth>Hagar thing.... But I'm sure you own both Pyromania and Hysteria in ALBUM, CASSETTE, CD, AND DOWNLOAD FORM... Tell me I'm lying... Pete was great for Def Leppard, but he should have put the bottle down. Also Phil is a great showman on his live shows... He litterally handed me a steel pick over the barrier because I was rocking out to every song during their concert @ the Camden waterfront back in '96 during their shitty X album... That night they played EVERYTHING from High & Dry and I LOST IT... EVEN SWITCH 625... Phil & Vivian did Steve & Pete justice that night... 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Still remember listening to this record for the first time in 1980. Law of primacy. This is such a standout song. Rick Allen’s long, winding drum fills, catchy chorus, growling rhythm guitars, background vocal assault. Can’t ask for anything better. They really had their own sound and style relative to their 2nd British Invasion counterparts. Younger, brighter, not as heavy as Judas Priest or Maiden. Sounds as fresh today as it did back then.
Joe Elliot, the oldest member of the band (of this lineup) was only 20 years old then. The rest were 19, and Rick Allen, only 16. And what an incredible guitar solo by Pete Willis.
Only album of theirs i ever bought and cherished. Pete Willis and"It Don't Matter" was when they were raw and hungry. Pete's guitar work was very inspiring.
People this is how band's start, in basements, garages, rehearsal, jamming studio's,then putting up band flyers, and booking gigs at pubs, clubs, wherever, and if your good enough whatever Genre of music you play, and are lucky enough to get your tape, demo, etc.out there, and have a loyal following of 15 people, and with the help of "Fate and Destiny", your days of playing in a bar in front of your friend's,will turn into becoming "Rock God's" selling out 80,000 seat Arenas, and the rest is History! It's the Generational,Chronological Context of "Three Chord Philosophy"!(Great Band Name,Huh!)
Heard it on the radio and it blew me away, I still have the 45 (for those that don't know, that's known as a single with one song on each side, or if the band and/or record company wanted to be cheap and piss you off royally they included the same song that was on side A on side B).
My high school buddy told me about these guys in early 80 so I bought "On Thru The Night" I have been a fan since. I liked there 4 more releases and the covers lp"Yeah". Great post and good job on the video. I can't believe it has been 30 years for Rock Brigade....
Thanks so much for posting this and what a great document of a brilliant and important NWOBHM band. Saw them live supporting AC/DC at Hammersmith in 1979 and just couldn't believe how young they were - but they absolutely rocked the place and got a brilliant reception. Although I like a lot of their later 'US-rock sound' material I still hanker back to the raw sound of teenage Leppard. Thanks again!
this album changed my life. got the tape in 88 after hysteria. first heavy shit i listened to. cant touch the first two albums killer riffs great melodys and arrangements
Is that Pete Willis playing leads on this? The solo he plays here is different than the album but he really had the Michael Schenker lead licks happening on a few songs on that album!! Love it!!
Gotta say, for its time and the technology available, quite good! Using cuts and zooms to mask that the band basically didn't move and add energy to the final product nicely done!
Love this! Never knew about this footage. To me, this DL at it's best. Melodic, hard rock but rawer than the stuff that would follow Pyromania, which to me ends the DL's best studio period, though I'm glad they got the fame and fortune they deserved.
My Favorite Def Leppard Song! Just saw them again Sep 4th 2011 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas! They are SO Talented! Def Leppard RockS!!! Much Better than the no talent garbage heard so often on the Radio!
Willis and Clark - unbeatable. Def Leppard really didn't sound like anyone else except maybe a more melodic AC/DC. They had a really good sound. It proves you don't have to be The Who or Britpop to have Union Jacks all over the place.
I love Phil but Pete was a major contributor the the bands success. "PYROMANIA" was co-written by Pete Willis. Phil played on the album and reaped the harvest of it's subsequent success.
I like this version more than the 'On Through The Night ' version. Great NWOBHM sound from 1979 when these guys were still teenagers. This is a great song. One or two of the songs from the first album remind me a little of UFO. To this day I still believe their first album to be their best. Thanks for posting this video.
Excellent live performance! The first two albums by Def Leppard were the best in my opinion. High and Dry is one of my all time favorite heavy metal albums
Those first two albums rocked so hard. I’ll take the Clark/Willis duo over any other in DL.
100% agree.
I like the first 3 albums.
I like the first four albums but the first two were the best.
I agree but I gotta ad Pyromania to that so for me the first three are the best of Def Leppard! I much prefer the harder stuff anyway! And also agree the Clark/Willis duo was the best!
@Bob Donald PC can't hold a candle to Vivian Campbell. Listen to the first 3 Dio albums for proof. lol
"On Through the Night"and "High N' Dry" was the best of the best for this band!!
👏👏👏👍🤘
No doubt ! The young ones who showed up for Hysteria in 87' will never know !

Rick Allen is a mere 16 years old here and playing those drums superbly.
I totally afere with you...vir I think he was only 15 😜
15
Yes 15,i was the same age in early 1980 when my friend found On Through The Night in the import section of our record store...great fuckin times man.
Look at rick 1.50 getting busy.
He had to have been 15 years old at this time
The Lep's BEST years. Clark & Willis Era. 🎸🎸
The real def Leppard's Heavy metal sound...
The era of Clark and Collen is also good
You sure got that right, my good man!!!!!!!!

So true. Still rocks!
Pete Willis!
My Fav Lep. So young, so classic. Pete Willis. Never got any better than this lineup.

I hope Pete comes to play live with them when they get inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame
And Steve!
@@PhilHLPESK_M_ Steve's already in there.
Question: Why does this sound so killer and rocking compared to all the stuff they released after Pyromania?
Answer: Pete Willis.
The1WhoKnowsTheTruth So true. Petes the answer
Definitely agree, Pete Willis was the man!

Mutt Lang(destroyer of rock bands) had his hand in turning them more pop as well.
Ignacio Huergo it’s not because of Willis. It’s because of the commercial label they went to . Mutt Lange??? I think.
Loved them pre-pyromania.
