I went down on sunday afternoons with my friend Anne Brownbridge who was going out with Tony Kenning to listen to their progress. Steve came along to audition and they'd probably agreed to run through freebird. Steve Clark had that "it" factor. That unteachable method of playing and writing riffs. His partnership with Phil Collen was absolutely perfect for the band and they made each other better. Steve could play something really cool and Phil could then expand on that and but the finishing touches on it to make the perfect song. The guitars in "Gods of War" are a great example of that collaboration. It's too bad that Steve could not get clean like Phil did back then.

Craig that's because he suffered from more then addiction. Have you ever noticed that some of the best artist's usually suffer from some kinda mental disorder and its usually depression and to keep others from noticing that's where the drugs come into play leading to addiction and trying to quit a drug addiction is a fight itself but can be done with a strong frame of mind and positive attitude but ya throw depression in on it and its dam near impossible. Steve was a beautiful man with a beautiful soul and im honored that I got to see them both through his music. He plays for the almighty now and suffers no more. R.I.P. Steve. ✌ 😇

"Pour Some Sugar On Me" came out later in the spring, using footage from this concert in the video, and album sales went utterly ballistic. You couldn't turn on a Top 40 station all summer and not hear at least one, if not two, Def Leppard songs every hour. Such great childhood memories from that year.

@@josephcebelinski2070 He does in this clip, but the entire "In the round, In your face" was pretty heavily overdubbed. There is a raw soundboard of February 12, 1988 out there, and he isn't as spot on with notes as this video makes it seem like he was. He actually screws up Hysteria in one place by going back into a verse when it was time to end the song, but makes up for it by nailing Heartbreak, probably the toughest song in the setlist.

I saw Def Leppard twice in Denver back some years ago, they sounded great both times and kicked serious rock ass. My son was about eight years old the second time and we saw Cheap Trick, Poison and Def Leppard in that order. He asked me, " Dad can we go backstage after the concert and meet Def Leppard ?" I had watching RUclips videos of songs from these bands so we sang along and played air instruments. Now he's 15 years old and is a drummer in his high school marching band. He listens to rock mainly from the late 1960s through modern rock.
Thank you to all you boys in the present version of Def Leppard; Steve Clark always loved never forgotten and even Pete Willis for that awesome beautiful Def Leppard music !! Having a crap day ? Listen to Pyromania, turn it up to 11 and let it f'n scream !!

It was hotter than hell that night and I was high as a kite! I remember driving to the show with my girlfriend, in my 1965 Mustang Fastback, and we over-heated on the freeway, we had to park in a commercial area about 1 mile from the venue. I saw DL on this tour back in ‘88 or ‘89. Queensryche opened for them to promote their Livecrime album. I was a QR fan too. They played to a disinterested audience. When Geoff Tate screamed, “Does anyone here believe in love?” the thousands of DL fan tween girls screamed. Then Tate said, “We’ll, I don’t,” and they kicked in to I don’t believe in love! I thought there was no way DL could follow that. But DL was awesome!!

I went to that concert in Fort Lauderdale, Florida ( I was 14 years old). They stole the night, seized the moment, left all critics silent. Till now 31 years later.
