What beautiful, nostalgic, painful memories of youth long gone this song brings so many of us. Golden, magical era. Youd have to have lived through it to really get it.
I think the greatest thing about this band is not their music, but the fact that they didn't ditch their drummer after he lost an arm in a car accident. That's true friendship and loyalty.
The story according to MTV at the time, was that the drummer began figuring out ways to drum one-handed while he was still in the hospital bed recuperating from the accident that cost him his arm. He would tap out rhythms with his remaining hand and his two feet while in bed. That's dedication.
Yeah but then stop and think about the pete willis thing and not so much what happened to the loyalty there they said it was because of his drinking and partying but hell they was all wild back then high n dry .

Heart melting nostalgia. One of the greatest songs ever. It's not always possible to hear every single instrument, effect.....vocal in a song, but in this one you can. Each it's own melody, it's own entity. Fantastic production for it's time, perfect mix.
@@DevineLove333 I bet that was awesome! I went to the Texas Jam in 1985. Bon Jovi was one of the first acts and everyone was like who’s Bon Jovi?? Haha good times.
@TruthWiz they definitely connect with some of the best times of my life as well. I remember being a teeny bopper, and me & my best friend would roll up into the local pool hall/arcade and the first thing we would do was throw a couple of quarters in the jukebox and put on Rock of Ages. We just had let everyone know we were there and we were ready to party. 🤘🏼😎
This is very relaxing, it calms and soothes the mind. It's amazing how a piece of music clears your thoughts and makes everything somehow seem simple and straightforward all of a sudden.
I just turned 54 yesterday and this is STILL the best 80's Rock band EVER! Graduated from a small, rural High School in South-Western Ohio in "86" I literally wore out my "Pyromania" cassette tape in my "57 Chevy" that I drove during those high school years cruising on Broadway in Greenville, Oh. Wow, had we only known how Damn good those days actually were when we were there living them!!! The 80's...Best decade ever known to man! So thankful that I was there, right in the middle of it all & still able to enjoy & reminisce on the INCREDIBLE music put out there by this GREATEST OF ALL ROCK BANDS EVER!
My hat goes off to Rick Allen most drummers would've retired but his perseverance and love for the drums helped him over come such tremendous odds Def Leppard is on my top 10 playlist when I drive long distances
Hats off to the rest of the band for keeping him!! Most bands would have kicked him aside and moved on with a 2 armed drummer. They made the right choice. Proves their loyalty too. Not much of that in bands.
ed pettit most would have hung it up after they left that girl behind in the ditch at chappaquidick. what..? he lost an arm in the incident yet Mary Joe Kopekne lost her anal hyman and eventually her life!
This was literally my first favorite band and they still remain one of my very favorites to this day. Rick Allen's drumming (pre and post accident) has been an inspiration to me. Prior to the accident, he inspired me to be the youngest member of several bands that I joined. I had to lie about my age so that I could play on stage for many shows since I was 16 and my bandmates were in their 20's. Rick Allen did the same thing. Rick lost an arm and I was injured as a firefighter and I had to have my hip replaced and it changed how I approach playing the drums. I was a double bass machine and now I'm much like Rick Allen and Nicko McBrain, a single pedal is all we need (though I still have a double pedal instead of two bass drums). I found it amazing and pure happenstance that I've been playing the same gear as he has (minus some of the electronics). I play Yamaha drums and use Yamaha hardware and I use Zildjian cymbals. I have added some electronic elements to my drumming, but I don't have a trigger pedal for my left foot to be the snare drum since I have my left arm. After my surgery, thinking of Rick Allen struggling to learn to play minus his left arm encouraged me to continue to play when I wanted to retire because I felt that I had lost my skills. What's a metal drummer to do when he can't play metal anymore? Side note: after several years of physical therapy and working out, I'm going back to two bass drums.
When "Hysteria" released, I was a teen and to this day, it has always kept that 80s nostalgia feeling alive. I wish we had a theme park dedicated to the 80s decade with all of the nostalgia of music, movies, TV shows, MTV, clothes style and the way we lived to have fun without the use of cellphones/internet.
Look around ~ the styles are on the way back. However, as the saying goes " if you wore it the first time around, you're to old to wear it again" That being said, hey! It's your life, do, say, wear whatever you want to! Have fun with it!
I'll always be jealous of the people who lived through it,I prefer this music over EVERYTHING. I got put in the wrong generation, gotta love the 80s. At least I got to see them live now,and I won't trade that memory for anything.
I want to give this drummer so much RESPECT. He never gave up and continued to live the dream, despite what happened. Not only talented, but a great person.
@@Johan_Liebert___ It's worse than that, I was commenting on a Crowded House video - how did my comment end up here? I've never watched this video. WTH? :o

Right there with you. Remember Saturday morning cartoons? Transformers and GI JOE etc......wish I could go back and not deal with all of this social media BS!!!
old people say this every single generation. this one is no different. look in publications back to the 1800s. EVERY SINGLE GENERATION complains about "the music of today." but it's just an opinion, man. we all like different things;. you're allowed to like music from the 70s and 80s, but you can't just arrogantly accuse younger people of "not understanding music."
1983 I saw Def Leppard in a small Gym in Fayetteville North Carolina. About 30’ from the stage. Place was packed and Def Leppard just about blew the roof off! Great show in their early years….
Elizabeth Steiner tbh it was his chemistry with Phil and all of them and he was great at putting different like uses of the guitar into the songs because they didn't use the same thing almost over and over like turning something different they don't want to use the same thing over and over like some f****** songs to he was brilliant in the Phil did a great job because they were in all the terror twins and they known each other for a long time besides Joe and Rick and that I mean Rick Savage because around for awhile while they found him really quick
Elizabeth Steiner definitely right about maker of this band period but not best ever. Just being honest. Right freaking on that you mentioned Clark! Keep his memory alive
At age 47, I look back at all the bands and ballads of the 80s and very early 90s and while I was a huge scorpions, Crue, skid row, Aeorosmith, Queensryche and GnR fan (along with so many others) I honestly think this was both the best BALLAD AND that they were the best BAND of that era.
They pulled off the working class hard rock songs as good as any or better than most while also being great at the prettier sounding melody type rock songs....Up tempo or slower, makes no difference...LIsten to the whole High n Dry album and it's so hard rocking, but they threw in "Bringin on the Heartbreak" which was different but still a great rock song and it certainly was the first example by them that showed what they could do in addition to songs like High n Dry, Let it Go, Mirror - Mirror, ect. AWESOME band !!
@Victor R. your taste in music is absolute trash if you don't like Def Leppard. Stop trying so hard to be edgy and relevant when you aren't, putting them down on their video. If you don't like them then go away
Fell in love with this band in the 80's.....and now 2023 is near an end and I'm still listening to them. Now my 23 year old son is hooked on them...and I couldn't be happier. I used to watch them on MTV and DROOL over Rick Savage...LOL!! If you don't like Def Leppard....then your taste in music is VERY limited....and you are missing out on some high quality music. LONG LIVE DEF LEPPARD!!!

Steve Clark never got the recoginition he deserved as a guitarist , True Legend , rest in Peace
RIP Steamin Steve
He has received plenty of recognition!, but unfortunately his time was to short and never built up that resume. RIP Steve.
His style was strongly influenced by Jimmy Page. His scenic. behavior was inspired by God himself.

Yeppers mutt lang is a genius when it comes to recording!
You summed this up perfectly my friend.....perfectly.
It's 1987 and Def Leppard with "Hysteria" is playing on my FM radio!
Playing it on my cassette player till I had to make another copy to play becuase I wore it out
I seen this concert "Hysteria Tour " in East Troy , Wi. "Alpine Valley" outdoor venue It Rocked !
@@tazkar1956 well these songs arent anymore not as much as when this came out anyway that's what they're getting at not that FM radio is obsolete
Quick, someone grab the blank cassette tape so we can record it!
Take me back!
I went to the Hysteria Tour in 1988. It’s now 2024 and I still love this song and Def Leppard!! ❤️🔥
I went to a concert where Bon Jovi opens up for Def Leppard ❤
@@DevineLove333 I bet that was awesome! I went to the Texas Jam in 1985. Bon Jovi was one of the first acts and everyone was like who’s Bon Jovi?? Haha good times.
@TruthWiz they definitely connect with some of the best times of my life as well. I remember being a teeny bopper, and me & my best friend would roll up into the local pool hall/arcade and the first thing we would do was throw a couple of quarters in the jukebox and put on Rock of Ages. We just had let everyone know we were there and we were ready to party. 🤘🏼😎
Honestly this is such a good song with such good structure and great transitions. It has so much that is good.
@@studley2436spoken like a true musician! Yes, it’s a gorgeously unique melody that survives the test of time. 😊

❤ okay then
Yeah that's the point of music, everybody got something out of it i hope😊❤
One of the best rock ballads ever written. Timeless.
It's not a ballad. It's not a love song. That's what makes this song so great
I just turned 54 yesterday and this is STILL the best 80's Rock band EVER!
The 1880´s were better.

Hi I Recommend checking out an indiesong called:'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
He almost did quit. the Band kept his spirits up so he could figure out how to keep doing what he does now.
Ed Petitt and just think Journey turned their back on Steve Perry who helped make them famous when he broke his hip..
The problem with listening to Def Leopard when I drive is that I get speeding tickets :-)
Good idea!!!
Not a bad idea ,guy
Build it and they will come.
That would be awesome.

This song takes me back to being a kid. The 80’s were so much fun. And we didn’t have smart phones so we were fully present to experience it.
This is that song that even after 30 years the memories are still strong related to it.
I want to give this drummer so much RESPECT. He never gave up and continued to live the dream, despite what happened. Not only talented, but a great person.

Kids these days don't know what good music was like in the 1970s and the 1980s
old people say this every single generation. this one is no different. look in publications back to the 1800s. EVERY SINGLE GENERATION complains about "the music of today." but it's just an opinion, man. we all like different things;. you're allowed to like music from the 70s and 80s, but you can't just arrogantly accuse younger people of "not understanding music."
You can sure say that again !
No matter how deep I get into Metal/ Progressive Metal, I always come back to this album. This album was a huge part of my early teenage years.

Steve Clark, the best guitar player on history. He was the heart of Def Leppard.
Elizabeth Steiner 💗💗💗
