Does your tacoma seem faster after the tune?
@@kyleguthrie4598 way more torquey from a stand still and better shifting going uphill on the highway. Exactly what I needed.
is this the same as using a Pedal Commander?
@@Schoen10506 not at all. PC just tricks your truck into believing you pushed the pedal harder than you really are. This is a remapping of gears and throttle response. PC is trash and can lead to issues.
Best tune out there. Got this tune on my 2017 tacoma. Absolutely love it.🤙🏽🤙🏽
It’s a game-changer for sure
I have the same tune in my 2017 from the same Adam. It makes it fun to drive!
He’s great and tune was worth every damn penny
Had my 2023 done 5 months ago. I drive that truck pretty hard on and off road. Pulled my boat with it. Definitely put it through the test. Zero complaints!!!
Worth it
Getting mine next week with Adam.
Fired up! Tacoma 2023 was my first Tacoma and was disappointed about the gear shifting even though my truck and upgrades looked badass now time to get this engine to represent the look
Love to hear it. He’s a solid dude. You will love the difference! Tell us your thoughts after the fact.
Nice. Going to be calling him after a couple months breaking in my TRD Pro.
You’re gonna love it
Love the videos man and love the three feet tall lady chiming in about how happy you are with the tune. Mhmmmm phew phew phew!
I can’t wait to get mines done this weekend!!!
You’re gonna have a whole new truck
Just had this tune done today on my 22 limited and I’m so glad I didn’t wait. Best $400 I ever spent. Drives like my ‘01 Tundra V8 now only better
Worth it!
Great Video! Planning to get Tuned up soon!
Just had the OTT tune done a few days ago. Liking it so far. Previously had a the Pro version of the KDmax and like the OTT better
Welcome to the club
Got the OTT in my 2020 TRD Off-Road (6mt) and it's a world of difference even in the manual
Love to hear it! It’s a lifesaver for us automatics for sure 😆
I got my OTT tune also and man! let me just say if you haven't. then what are u waiting for highly recommend! don't waste money on pedal commander or any of that just get the tune!
It is an absolute game changer. From turtle to truck.
How much deos it cost and where do you get it?
Luv mine OTT tune it’s day and night difference
It really is a game changer!
Nice Video. Looks like Lana is pregnant or was that just the camera angel. If she is congratulations, my wedding and the birth of my two daughters are the three best days of my life! You are getting close to 1000 subscribers. Keep up the great work.
She indeed is! Our first kid (a boy) coming this summer. Thanks for the words as always!
Headed down to see Adam soon - can't wait.
Report back! Excited to hear your thoughts.
@@teamoildrop Will do. Not sure if I should go for light or mild. I think Adam will help me decide based on what my experience is, etc. Then a quick test drive there and report back to him what I think before we head back to Cheyenne. We're booked with him - can't wait. I appreciate the detailed review. Yours was the first I found featuring Adam - heard noting but fantastic reviews about him. Again, thanks much.
@@ourlifeinwyoming4654 remember if you have the ECT button you can program two settings! I went with mild/medium and couldn’t be happier.
@@teamoildrop Right on - yup, got the ECT. I'll keep you posted.
*Update: just got it done. So far I’m blown away! Incredible. Headed back to Cheyenne in a bit. Just buzzing around Denver - a little I-25 here and there, it’s super responsive! Thanks for the information that helped us decide. No regrets!!!
Love all your vids, you've really helped me out saving money and learning about truck. This one has me on the fence.. what are your thoughts doing this to a 2016 off-road with 180k manual trans? Worth it?
Thank you! Glad I could help. Honestly.. the man trans will change things… I cannot speak on it as I have no experience. I’d either hit up your local tuner and/or ask around on Tacoma world.
Will do! Thank for the response!
I have 33’s with a 2” lift, big grille guard bumper and rear bumper, roof rack, and a re-gear. I’m hoping they can add that tune to this combo. Lol
The only thing this could do is help move that taco xl!
I enjoyed this :)
Ayyyy
@@teamoildrop This mod will come soon. I just bought my Tacoma less than 2 months ago.
@@PrinceMarcusWilliam this is something Toyota always should have sold the Tacoma with. Definitely something I wish I did 90k miles ago. Enjoy it when you get the tune!
Hey bud love your videos. I just bought a 23 Tacoma in December and love it except for the gear hunting especially even on the slightest inclines. I’ve been thinking about the OTT and saw you did it. I trust what you have to say. Are you still happy with it after a year??
To this day, without a shadow of a doubt, it is in my opinion the single most important mod you can perform to the 3rd Gen Tacoma. It will literally save your truck. I say that completely unbiased with nothing to gain.
Thanks buddy 👊🏼
Interesting that your mpg did not change much seems like good results thanks. btw what was that background music playing? I enjoyed it
Thanks! And the two songs here should be Les Souvenirs de Demain - Magnus Ludvigsson & Step Up Swing - Wendy Marcini
Mahalo (thanks)
Finally getting mine done Sunday! Bought new in 2018. Hope it's Worth the hype! Only 400$
THATS A GREAT PRICE! Please let us know your thoughts!
@@teamoildrop definitely will! I just don't know which spiciness to get. What level do yall recommend?
@@feustond they say it depends on your lift, tires, and possible regearing. I’m basically stock and love and recommend mild medium
@teamoildrop awesome! I have the 3 inch Ironman lift on 285 70 17s. My truck gear hunts to a point its extremely bad to drive. I get better gas mileage in the city than highway. I been driving with ECT since I bought it new in 2018. I'm thinking the medium would suit me best. If I don't like it or they ever update the tune it's free for life. Thanks for the reply
@@feustond trust the tuner! Excited for you for sure.
Hi. Is this the same tune that Toyota does for the “gear hunting” that 2019 Tacoma’s do? Thank you.
It’s not; definitely an aftermarket advantage
i really want this tune
You won't regret it for a second
Have you pulled anything with the OTT tune? Mainly use my Tacoma to pull my boat and wonder how it is with towing? Thanks
Nothing crazy yet but will be towing a trailer from Texas to Colorado in a few weeks!
Planning to get this tune
What are your thoughts about this tuning after few months you installed is worth it?
I still consider it the best thing I’ve done to my truck
Team oil drop how does tune feel compared to ect button before tune? I'm thinking of getting tune but not if it will make truck feel with ect on did. Does tune feel smooth not forced like ect?
It is still a decent gear hunting improvement over etc mode, however, what is hands down most noticeable is the acceleration from 0 mph. It’s an instant response and no more dead pedal (rev but no speed gain)
More smooth and natural than the stock ECT. And with the OTT tune when you use the ECT its not the old stock ECT its the OTT with a bump up to the next level of the throttle setting of the OTT
How is this compared to the kdmax pro?
Dar it i ca t make up my mind
I need to tuned my snail trd tacoma
Since I can’t talk experience on KD I’d turn to the internet. They almost unanimously agree OTT smokes all other tunes in 2023.
Thanx man
So just so I understand. You have the option to switch between all 4 settings with the ect button? Or you push the ect button and it goes up one from The setting you selected on the original tune, so one or the other of the 2 options. I hope i conveyed this question correctly.
Great question. Button switches between the two tune levels you had installed. That’s how my tuner did it anyway. For me it was mild and medium.
@teamoildrop Awesome, thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was just 2 out of the 4 options but I wanted to be clear ha.
Did you noticed any steering wheel shaking at around 60 mph? thanks
I never have, but that would of course be unrelated to the tune
The stock “gear hunting” transmission settings drive me crazy. I need this. Does it void the warranty? I have a 2023 TRD sport
That is a VERY common question about this. The general ruling is the dealership does not look and cannot tell. However I suggest doing your own research. It is an absolute game changer.
@@teamoildrop Thanks for the response. Love the channel!
Are 2wd benefiting from this tune ? I feel my truck searches for gears too
Definitely! 4wd should play no difference in what the tune does. Just in case ask the same question to your local tuner.
Been almost a year that you tune your Tacoma still no issues ?
Are u able to pass emissions test?
I can't vouch for emissions testing as Colorado does not require it. I also don't believe I have read anyone has issues with emissions but do your own research. As for any issues... zero. I would do it again and even pay double if I had to.
Has the “mild” setting tune dropped mpg?
Great question. Not one noticeable bit for me.
Need a rear brake video
she’s done!
Is this something i can do myself, or mechanic?
You have to find an OTT installer based on your location
overlandtailor.com/retailer-locations
Headed for mine end of this week. TOD, you still on Mild/Medium?
Still on mild/med and no plans to change. I find it perfect.
@@teamoildrop Running "race" (red) 2 on my current Sprint Booster. Been using that setting for months (SB is arguably best mod to date - had it for a couple years). I desire no more "spice" at all w/ throttle response. I'd like to have the tuner drive my truck first, and let his "educated" OTT foot zero in where that would be on the light, mild, medium, spicy scale for the OTT tune.
Looking fwd to what OTT does to cruise, as you mention in vid. My wife's 2020 Subaru Touring XT 4 cyl turbo tackles hills in cruise control like they aren't there. As you know, stock Taco is the opposite! Painful.
@@tim3308 I’ll say this. I make trips up to Woodland Park from Colorado Springs often. Something like a 3k or 4k foot gain in a few short miles. Truck handles it night and say different. And I always forget to even try medium anymore.
@@teamoildrop NOICE! 🤩
@@teamoildrop Got the tune. Alex Yug tried me on Light/Mild first. It was good, but I can handle Mild/Medium. Yes, you really don't need medium (only for these special occasions) and I'm coming from a Sprint Booster that was race 2. Drove an hour and 10 minutes home on rollie terrain and all lived up to billing. But the test are hills you drive a bunch near home. A long one here, and the truck stayed at 2000 RPM's, that NEVER happened before.
Is it life changing, like having a newborn son? No. Does it now make the truck feel like a normal vehicle? My Gawd YES (the now linear gear progression)! So worth it, as all the reviews say.
Which begs the question (Btw, Alex tells me Toyota has not updated the ECU software since mine was produced in early Summer 2021 - 23's have zero change. Shows you they are so on to Gen 4) why did Toyota drop the ball so badly on tuning this vehicle properly? It's not debatable they did - witness: an entire cottage industry has developed ot fix their lack of priority. Don't give that MPG crap. Otherwise an OTT tune would take a big hit on MPGs , it doesn't. Only answer is Toyota is Camry-centric and not Taco-centric, like in our world.
Considering getting this tune. Super leery though cause it’s definitely not in my wheel house to fix or fully understand haha. Are you still running it ? Any “quirks”?
Still running it and WILL never not use it. It’s problem free since day 1. It is the single best mod for our trucks.
Well then! I guess I’ll get scheduled. Haha
@@BugEatinMan be ready for a whole new truck, no exaggeration at all
Are you still happy with mild/medium or are you wanting more?
Id do the exact same again for sure
What tune did you go with on your truck? Light medium, mild medium or above?
Mild/medium and I’d do it again
@@teamoildrop my 22 SR is bone stock and I’m getting it tuned today, just curious what I should go with, I appreciate your help brother!
@@lucaspineiro6859 Id reccomend mild/med. However if you plan to regear or get larger tires... talk to and trust your tuner!
Will doing this void my warranty on a new Taco ??????
The general consensus has always been no… however I reccomend doing your own research. Here’s a thread on it: www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ott-tune-does-it-void-warranty.791712/
How can I find someone near me that does the OTT tune-up? I live in Florida
Great question, go to the overland tailor website and there’s a retailer near me option. Looks like you have 3 options near Miami, Orlando and Destin!
@@teamoildrop Destin is in my backyard! Thanks!
Can you have this done on a 2014 tacoma?
There are tunes for the 2nd gens, your local tuner will be able to explain your options better
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road? We're the pro auto lighting company for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
I may have some interest!
I have 23 tacoma and was thinking on this OTT tune and was wandering if it has any bearing on factory warranty.
The general consensus has always been no… however I reccomend doing your own research. Here’s a thread on it: www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ott-tune-does-it-void-warranty.791712/
I’ve concluded no. Will be tuning my 23 TRD Pro after I run it a couple thousand miles.
@@5280Recreation 😎
Does anyone have the name and number of the person in Bonners Ferry , Idaho who installs the OTT ? I’m going through there in late May on my way to Montana
I believe all the info can be found on the OTT website where you go to "find a tuner"
@@teamoildrop Thanks, Mumfy told me who to contact. I’ve already set up a date.
Will the tune void the factory warranty?
This is a very common question. It’s a bit gray. I have not heard of a specific case where a warrranty was voided. Please do your own research to be comfortable.
Why OTT vs OV, etc?
Its the industry standard right now with tuenrs even offering deep discounts for previosuly tuned trucks to make the switch. Most reviews put it first in improved throttle response and smooth shifting/reduced gear hunting.
I got OTT tune last month now I’m at the dealership with coolant leaking from throttle body and thermostat
Will bet my life nothing more than bad timing. Sorry to hear that. Don’t tell the dealership about the tune, if you have a warranty they’ll >try< to screw you out of it.
Probably didn't have anything to do with the tune, but what did the dealership say?
The tune does affect timing regardless of what the tuner will tell you,
Expect cam sensor and timing issues also torque converter issues. The torque converter locks stock while driving at certain points even in lower gears Iike 3rd and cut fuel to engine Toyotas engineering to squeeze out the best gas mileage, unfortunately this leads to jerky down and up shifts the gear hunting but it’s a natural characteristic of the truck. The tune does not accommodate any of these they do work along with the tunes new parameters but there’s a price to pay for sweeter shifting it’s on of those things have it now pay later.
Did you ever figure out the cause?
How much is the cost? Im from commerce city, co thanks
This one ran me $500. For me, worth every penny.
Thanks for the info enjoyed all your videos keep it coming specially on your taco
Will it pass California emissions test?
Sure will! They discuss it with their certificate of proof on their site.
Did it affect your mpg?
Check the very last part of the video but to save you the time, after one full tank I have seen no change. I average 19-20.5 a tank and I got 19.6 this first post-tune tank. I could get more out of it easily if I didn’t enjoy stamping the pedal so much.
@Team Oil Drop missed last part thanks.
@@teamoildrop update in mpg sice you got tune?
@@joegonzalez5602 honestly no noticeable change positive or negative. Holding fast.
@Team Oil Drop Awesome thanks.
That lip balm holder tho...
She gone. That angle and the summer heat had chapstick soup sideways. Good little 3 d print tho. Just better mounted vertically.
@@teamoildrop Can you 3D print a purse holder for @RobMotive? He needs both hands free to wipe the tears away when anyone suggests tuning
@@dy8863 😂😂
Anybody have the medium/spicy tune? Thinking about going down to mild/medium because mine is too jumpy
Even Mild/med took me a couple weeks to get used to. Did not expect such instant response.
And I use mild 99% of the time
@@teamoildrop I went down to mild/med and it’s so much better I love it
I want to get this here in Colorado but wonder about too much torque off the line when snow and ice are present! Anyone have experience with the tune in winter time and wheel spin?
@@chewy6942 my ‘23 offroad spin when the road is wet. I have to carefully step on gas at every stop in the rain.
Wouldn't a tune void warranty
This is a long-debated question. Most tuned trucks are well past factory warranty and don't care. Many owners just don't tell the dealership and the dealership never finds out.
I have a lifetime power train warranty. And I've been on the edge of getting this tune because of the possibility of it voiding my warranty
@@kyleguthrie4598 my only suggestion here is read up on some experiences on Tacoma
World forums etc and also ask your local tuner
Price?
I paid $500 which seems like the median with $450 being cheap and 600 being higher.
How much does it cost?
All tuners may have different pricing, but generally $500
