@@ourlifeinwyoming4654 I would agree with MuscleAmerican, I had my 2017 recently OTT tuned and it makes a hugh difference in throttle response and shift points, success as drive your truck
The KDMax 6.0 is two years old. Almost any tune is better at this point. KDMax came out with the ‘9.0’ and called it the “KDMax 9.0” weeks before OTT made their “9.0.” That said, both OTT and KDMax are excellent tunes and will make the driver very happy.
2016 Tacoma sport double cab 4WD 6’ bed. KD Max 2.0 couple years ago and haven’t looked back. Fixes stock Toyota crap drivability. Trailer pulling outstanding, even through hills and mountains.
I’ve been running the OTT tune since Dec ‘23. I got the mild/med tune. I’m impressed with the power curve and you can definitely feel in in the 2k-3k rpm range. The only complaint that I have is that I’m still not happy with the shifting. Even when I’m using the pedal, it seems like the truck still downshifts way too much even on the slightest of inclines. Note: I’m only running 265/70R17’s. Also during local (in town) driving and I’m light on the throttle it like to jump back and forth between 5th and 6th gear way too much. The truck seems to drive its best with ECT Power button on.

I put the KDMax 9.0 tune on my 2022 about two months ago. I love everything about it especially hitting the etc/sport button only when needed though mostly for hills and off road. The one thing I wasn’t prepared for was the noticeable loss in mpg’s. On a full tank of 87 my gauge reads around 250’ish miles range to the tank and that’s averaging around 13-15 miles per gallon for me and that’s with 33’ tires. I’m thinking I’ll do some research with a few tanks of 91 to compare but I already feel like I’m at the gas pump WAY more than I’d like to be. I’d like to try this time but at 400$ a pop that gets expensive. Has anyone out there gone from the KDMax9.0 to the OTT tune or vice verse and what’s your opinion on which is better?
Great vid. The KDMAX is on the 10.0 tune. I just did mine on the 10.0 and lost 1 mpg but fixed the trans issues including the radar cruise. Also gained power.
I really wish one of you guys would put the cruise control on and see if it stays in the gear that is a major problem everybody's having is cruise control on the highway keeps changing gears any it bit of a slope
I ask my tuner about this in the video. He says that adaptive cruise control remains pretty much the same because they don’t want to be messing with those specs. Normal cruise control is slightly improved with because of the added power and torque but not 100% fixed. Hope that helps, check out that part of the video where he explains it.
I don’t know if it’s worth the extra money. I’d say if you’re happy with the KDMAX stick with it. With that said I did notice a difference between the two but I was on an older version of the KDMAX.
Does anyone know if these tunes affect the cycling of port versus direct injection? My concern is that if the tune sprays more fuel, more often via direct injection and does not provide a commensurate increase in the port injection cycle, you might see accumulation of carbon on the valves at 50 or 100,000 miles.
