    Yes you explain the garbage stock programming perfectly. Gutless engine with a transmission that constantly upshifts to the highest gear possible putting the engine in the worst part of its torque curve Then when you need to acclerate, you push the accelerator which is non-linear causing it to drop 2 gears, then it immediately upshifts to start the cycle all over again. The perfect setup for a horrible driving experience. I should be getting my OTT tune within a few weeks. Thanks for the video.

      You will LOVE the OTT.
      We live in a very mountainous area and it’s so nice to have the transmission downshift into 5th instead of 4th, then into 5then, then into 4th again and again.
      I’m so glad I had the OTT installed.
      And when you need the power to pass, it’s there.
      My mpg went Up by 1-3 mpg depending on where I’m driving.
      I’m so thankful for the OTT. It’s worth Every Penny you spend

      I've been daily driving a Tacoma for 2 years now and have never felt the need to get an OTT tune. I think it's only people who drive very aggressively who complain about the stock programming. Because I follow the speed limit, drive normally, and have never felt the need to ever change anything.

    I LOVE the OTT on my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, long bed.
    I’ve installed a cold air intake and the OTT.
    My Tacoma did come with the TRD Performance exhaust.
    It now has 318 horsepower and 295 lb ft of torque at 2,300 RPM, while getting 22mpg at 82mph on the freeway with the cruise set.
    I enjoy your content, so I subscribed to your channel.

    • @dellann6861
      @dellann6861 3 месяца назад

      How was your experience with OTT and COLD Air Intake performance-wise? I just had my 2019 Tacoma OR tuned with OTT. Will the addition of an after-market CAI enhance and improve the performance of the truck? I would really appreciate any input. Thanks!

    • @Doc1855
      @Doc1855 3 месяца назад

      @@dellann6861 Yes I noticed an improvement in horsepower and torque.
      I also have the TRD Performance exhaust from factory.
      I’m thinking about upgrading to an AWE dual exhaust.
      The AWE dual exhaust system is a true Dual exhaust from the manifold back, whereas most dual exhaust systems have a split exhaust tube from the single exhaust system.
      If you add the CAI, you’ll notice a big difference in the sound of your truck when accelerating. My TRD OR sounds like a V8 when my foot is on the floor or when in passing someone.
      The CAI allows your truck to breathe easier on the intake.
      The TRD Performance exhaust system allows less back pressure in your engine, thus the entire intake, engine and exhaust work better as One.
      Currently my TRD has 318 horsepower and 295 lb ft of torque and I’m still getting better fuel mileage when my cruise is set on the freeway, or highway. I’m getting better mileage around town as well.
      Spectra CAI is just as good as a K&N for a lot cheaper.
      I hope this answered your questions.
      Cheers !

      I was getting 24+ doing 80-85mph with the tune. Being able to hold 6th gear on the interstate helps a ton. Since I switched to 255/85r16 Falken wildpeak AT4 tires its gone down quite a bit. But they are C rated 6 ply tires so it was expected.

      @Doc1855 3 месяца назад +1

      @@270eman I’m getting 23.9mpg with the cruise set on 82mph on I-90. My 23 TRD Off Road still has the factory tires.
      When they wear out I’ll stay with the same size as factory on 16” wheels.
      I’m thinking about buying the Falken Wildpeak AT3W’s.
      We use my TRD for light duty work around our property and off roading on forest and service roads, as well as the Washington state BDR.
      We live in the mountains of north central Washington state, 5 miles from town (25 miles from the city) on a private road that we have to plow and maintain ourselves. We get 5-7 feet of snow every winter.
      I put 300# of sand bags over the rear axle during the winter for better traction.
      On our last pickup I had Cooper Discoverer A/T tires and they performed well, but that truck was solely used for work around our property. They were more aggressive tires than the AT3W’s.

    • @270eman
      @270eman 3 месяца назад

      @@Doc1855 Yeah the Wildpeak AT4Ws are really aggressive for an all terrain. I wanted 255/85r16 size so I could fit 33" tires with no mods. It seems for that size C rated is the only option. These tires are around 58lbs each so they cut into the mpg some. The tune feels great with them though. It was a little jerky with the smaller 245/75r16 highway tires. At3 is probably fine. I think its a little lighter.

After the tune, with the way I drive I’m seeing around a 3-4 mpg increase. I have a feeling it’s because I’m not needing to constantly floor it to get back to the speed limit after every red light. Maybe that’s just me and because of the way I drive, but I’m really impressed with it. I got the mild throttle response and medium/spicy for ect power.

  • @DeanHumpherys
    @DeanHumpherys Месяц назад

    I've watched a lot of videos about the OTT tune. Yours was incredibly insightful and helpful! I want to get the tune, but I wonder if it would fix the issue I'm having. Maybe everyone has this same experience, but I haven't found a video about it yet.
    When I'm driving at really any speed, say 50-60 mph, and I let go of the accelerator with anticipation of coasting to a red light, for example, it will downshift kind of hard, almost as if you're driving a stick shift and you dropped into a lower gear too early and the rpm's will go up. You'll feel it down shift each time too, pushing you forward a little bit. Pretty annoying!
    Example: Traveling 55mph in 5th gear --> let off gas, truck starts to slow down --> truck shifts into 4th gear --> rpms go up --> repeats through each gear as you slow down, rpms going up each time it downshifts
    Is this what most people feel on a stock Tacoma? I've got a 2021 V6 double cab. I used to have a 2004 V6 double cab and never had this issue. Sadly, that truck got rear ended and totaled. RIP lol

    • @aaronlabeau
      @aaronlabeau  Месяц назад +1

      I don't know if I've ever re-created that experience at those speeds but sometimes I do let off the gas doing the same thing at lower speeds in a neighborhood and the transmission sometimes gets confused on whether to drop to the lower gear or stay in the gear it was in when I get back on the accelerator. The best way I can describe this transmission is lazy but if that's the tradeoff for longevity I guess so be it.
      I'm not a mechanic so please take my advice appropriately based off a comment your making so we're starting from a big stretch here but I would look at the OTT tune as an improvement for the transmission shifting not a fix. I'd say you have a pretty good understanding what the transmission should feel like from your 2024 so if somethings off with your 2021 it would be worth getting it checked out at a reputable transmission shop.

    I am getting better MPG with the tune. I am getting 24+ consistently doing 80-85mph down the interstate. It never did that good before. I think its because I have more power in 5th and 6th now so its not dropping down to 4th all the time and burning lots of fuel.

      The OTT guys gave me a press release recently. "“We have been working on this Executive Order for the 3rd Generation Tacoma 3.5L for well over a year now and are excited to bring the first naturally aspirated CARB certified calibration to the marketplace. The new calibration retains all the driving characteristics, power, and torque that OTT is known for, but in a CARB certified calibration. OTT is heavily invested in providing our clients with the best and safest calibrations available.” said John Gobbels, CEO of OTT." Their website hasn't been updated with the latest release yet but see below... overlandtailor.com/press-releases
      The dealership may/can give you grief if you're still under warranty and they make a claim that the aftermarket ECU caused the issue. But there's past precedent that you can't automatically invalidate a vehicle warranty claim due to the magnuson/moss act. You have to determine what your comfort level is with going to the aftermarket. I've personally had a tune on at least 6 of my last vehicles I've had going back over 30 years now. The thing to find is a good tuner with dyno proven results and multitudes of happy customers.

      I just got my OTT done 2 days ago…he added a sticker under the hood for C.A.R.B. Compliance…he sending me some additional paperwork supporting Compliance…The actual reason for the tune was increased charging voltage cause I installed X2 Power AGM battery…I’m running a 1200 watt system and was having headlights dimming issues…even after the battery installed I was still having issues…after installing the cables upgrade(4ga. Alt to battery/battery to alternator ground) basically eliminating dimming of headlights…still have to run battery to body and engine to frame…I didn’t want to constantly charge the battery at home(AGM batteries required higher charging voltage)…the installer made me sign a disclaimer form and tried to talk me out of it…saying if you reinstall a stock battery…higher voltage will kill it)…I did the mild/medium and initially the pedal pressure took time get used too….acceleration from the stoplights was whole lot smoother and rpm’s didn’t drop as previously…medium on the hi-way gives you a whole lot of get up and go…before you had to plan lane changes due to the delay of the truck to go…now you just point and go…just a quick downshift and you’re doing 80+ mph…mileage wise…with the more aggressive driving…I was within 1/2 mpg(21.0 vs 20.5)…best part is the installer will reflash your truck for free…so if you installed bigger tires…change gears…added additional weight or if want the more aggressive tuning…it’s free…so he can probably take it out too…but don’t expect a refund…I wish I would have done this sooner…2016 Tacoma TRD Sports 4x4 dc with 78,xxx miles..
