    Yes you explain the garbage stock programming perfectly. Gutless engine with a transmission that constantly upshifts to the highest gear possible putting the engine in the worst part of its torque curve Then when you need to acclerate, you push the accelerator which is non-linear causing it to drop 2 gears, then it immediately upshifts to start the cycle all over again. The perfect setup for a horrible driving experience. I should be getting my OTT tune within a few weeks. Thanks for the video.

    I think the "mpg increase" people claim is from the fact that instead of having to floor the truck because it wont do what they want every time now that the throttle is linear they arent having to mash it

      It's worth it. Source: I started with KDMax because it was the first tune I knew about then found OTT later. The difference is an amateur tune vs a much more developed one.

    As a ex mechanic, i noticed that dang trans all the time. I was so sick of it after almost being hit in traffic because of it. I went to the dealership and traded it for a manual. I didn't know at the time there was a tune. I found out later on.
    I noticed a 3 to 5 mpg difference when i got rid of that auto. The manual was the mpg predicted by toyota. While the auto lagged so bad, and reved up so much, i was not getting good mpg at all.

  • @270eman
    @270eman Месяц назад +4

    I am getting better MPG with the tune. I am getting 24+ consistently doing 80-85mph down the interstate. It never did that good before. I think its because I have more power in 5th and 6th now so its not dropping down to 4th all the time and burning lots of fuel.

    Hey I love the setup and kinda want the same. Do you have a lift on it and is the tires the same size as the other videos 265/70/17? Please see this so I can stop being so indecisive on my research to build my truck 😂

    • @aaronlabeau
      @aaronlabeau  2 месяца назад

      Yep I'm still on the same wheels and tires setup. My truck is the Off Road and I'm still on the stock suspension. I get a little rubbing on the fender flare on big bumps that compress the suspension but it's very minor with the trimming tweaks I've done in my other video. I have no rubbing when turning the wheels lock to lock either on the cab mount or the fender flare. I need to lift it.

    So right now, if I go to get a smog inspection, and they do, here in California, hook up to the vehicle OBD computer, it won’t detect/fail inspection due to tune? Also…I’ve heard that the dealers, cannot tell that the OTT has been installed. What is the story on these 2 concerns?

    • @aaronlabeau
      @aaronlabeau  15 часов назад

      The OTT guys gave me a press release recently. "“We have been working on this Executive Order for the 3rd Generation Tacoma 3.5L for well over a year now and are excited to bring the first naturally aspirated CARB certified calibration to the marketplace. The new calibration retains all the driving characteristics, power, and torque that OTT is known for, but in a CARB certified calibration. OTT is heavily invested in providing our clients with the best and safest calibrations available.” said John Gobbels, CEO of OTT." Their website hasn't been updated with the latest release yet but see below... overlandtailor.com/press-releases
      The dealership may/can give you grief if you're still under warranty and they make a claim that the aftermarket ECU caused the issue. But there's past precedent that you can't automatically invalidate a vehicle warranty claim due to the magnuson/moss act. You have to determine what your comfort level is with going to the aftermarket. I've personally had a tune on at least 6 of my last vehicles I've had going back over 30 years now. The thing to find is a good tuner with dyno proven results and multitudes of happy customers.

    How do you go back to your stock tune if you want too? Would you have to pay another $500, and find the same tuner that has the copy of your original tune?

    • @aaronlabeau
      @aaronlabeau  26 дней назад +2

      Your local tuner that installed the tune would have to remove it. I would think this would be done free of charge. The OTT tune isn't like some other more expensive tunes where you also have a device or cable where you can install and uninstall the tune by yourself.

    There’s alot of miss information out there about why the truck is tuned the way it is, revs, shifts the way it does etc. and many say well it’s the same engine in this Lexus model and this Camry and it revs at this rpm it can do the same in the Tacoma …..well it’s not the same engine do your research a lot of different components using the same block. And this engine is tuned and built for a truck not a car. The transmission and engine is tuned to how Toyota thinks it will best serve the truck longevity wise not emissions. My buddy just had his tuned and his trans temp now runs hotter so he has to limit what he tows and for long. The computer accommodates and alters timing from excessive knock from the tune but not what was intended from factory but of course trading 300k miles for 200k is worth smoother shifting. These engineers have been in advanced level math and engineering classes most of their lives without using calculators 😂, it blows my mind that people think these tuners have figured out some unsolved mystery and continue to literally praise them.

    • @bernardshaw7585
      @bernardshaw7585 Месяц назад +1

      That's been my biggest hesitation around getting a tune, I did regear from stock to 4.88, made a huge difference in gear hunting/Holding 6th, but I even worry about that altering longevity. I'd like a solid 250k truck with the type of off roading I do. Everything in life is a compromise:)

    • @270eman
      @270eman Месяц назад +3

      No they are tuning it to meet epa emissions garbage. Was he driving in 5th or 6th gear? You are suppose to be in S4 while towing so its 1:1. Towing in over drive will make the transmission run hot.

    • @SuPeRcAr250
      @SuPeRcAr250 Месяц назад +2

      Do you really think a less than 10whp and wtq difference is going to cause the truck to last 100k less miles? I think not. As far as his transmission overheating, there are too many factors to account for, but the ott tune definitely has better shift points, and as mentioned you’re supposed to be in ect power and only allow it to go to 4th gear when towing.

    • @SuPeRcAr250
      @SuPeRcAr250 Месяц назад +1

      Another thing to note, they were doing dyno tests on the extra spicy tune, which is too much for the majority of people even running this tune. I’m running mild/medium and it’s more than enough for my lifted truck on 33’s.

    • @windowsbythebay
      @windowsbythebay 19 дней назад +1

      @@SuPeRcAr250 update got the tune, lite/mild. I’ll do testing an probably make a video, basically the tune does what I said, changes timing, causes lurching and irregularities in shifting especially at lower speeds, abrupt shift and downshift from stop and go to up shift from a low speed to high speed ex: traffic driving. Took to the dealer paid diagnostic fee and they confirmed truck was out of timing but at this point has not had any failures fyi they can see it was tuned, just like you can see deleted codes. This is a third gen 2017 always maintained purchased new. I finally found a post on Tacoma world where other people are posting legitimate reviews about the OTT and say the same thing. Tuners willing to flash me back to stock so now I can say the OTT isn’t all what everyone seems to make it out to be. If your wondering why you don’t see any neg reviews it’s because tuners delete them, the tuners head was literally between my legs taking pictures and posting on IG then as soon as I mentioned getting flash back and explained what’s going he deleted everything so weird but makes sense.

      Honestly I don't remember if retail price is $400-600. It might depend on your local tuner and what they charge. The tune definitely wakes the truck up when you keep your foot in it after 4k rpms. For me though the throttle response was the most important thing.

      It's changing the tuning on your factory computer so you have to be willing to accept any risks with doing that. That said OTT going though the efforts of CARB testing their tune which is a rigorous and expensive process. I've had many cars tuned by qualified professionals over the years and haven't thought twice about it. OTT is where I put my money for my Tacoma.
