    I’m running mild/medium with a 3” lift and 33’s. The power difference and transmission tuning is the real deal. My truck feels faster than it did stock with heavy 33’s. The fact that my truck doesn’t gear hunt anymore and is actually in the correct gear makes drivability so amazing. Only reason I would increase to medium/spicy would be if I went up to 35” tires. Best upgrade I’ve done to my truck.

    I just had it installed and already love it with the standard tune! In the beginning, the pedal felt like a normal car vs a stock Taco! Later on, a few times I forgot and had a heavy foot. It lurched forward like it was sensitive! Then I took it up a hill and that’s when I see a huge difference!

    Unless your running a different compression ratio on the tacoma you get nothing out of premium gas. The octane rating is based on the compression in which the engine ignites fuel and dispels gases. To each their own, but gas is gas unless its trash fuel.

      Hi Pam! I responded to the other comment you left earlier about your fuel range. What type of fuel are you running? You’re not the first person I’ve seen comment about how their truck only seems to get in the mid 200s when it comes to mileage range on a full tank of gas… I’ve read some articles about it and some people think it’s the way certain Tacoma’s were essentially manufactured. However, it’s really hard to tell and know how accurate those claims are.. to be honest I’m not doing anything special outside of running premium fuel and driving pretty conservatively all things considered on a daily basis when I do drive my truck. Always appreciate you commenting and providing your feedback! One of these days we will definitely have to meet up👍🏼

      Agreed

    • @chrisking6695
      @chrisking6695 7 месяцев назад +2

      The engine has less power with 91 because the gas is rated for higher compression engine. Your taco engine isn’t high compression. the gas isn’t any better then the regular one. The numbness just indicate how much compression the gas can withstand before it explodes. You don’t need 91 in your taco. It’s not going to have any benefit and actually will worsen the performance because 91 needs higher compression. Even in the manual it states that the engine should be run with regular.

    • @woodducc
      @woodducc 3 месяца назад +1

      @@chrisking6695 you can run what the manual says. There is no need to run premium. However this tune has two octane maps. One is for lower octane and one for higher octane. The high octane map can adapt the timing to take advantage of up to 95 octane. Justin the co-owner of Overland Tuning leaves many interesting comments on TacomaWorld.
      From piecing together information from his comments and some other users, it appears that the 3.5 likes higher octane fuel. From my personal experience my Tacoma likes premium fuel. It makes a noticeable positive difference in smoothness and power. In his words it's up to you if it's worth the cost of admission.

    what motivated your decision to move from light/mild to the medium/spicy? Anything in particular you didn’t like about the first set up? Any pointers to help us decide on the best setting possible for everyday driving? Just like you I’m easy on the truck and after watching your video I was almost convinced that the light/mild would be the right set up for me. However after reading that you stepped it up a notch or two I started second guessing. Thanks in advance

    • @westcoasttaco
      @westcoasttaco  5 месяцев назад +1

      I was planning to keep the light/mild.. however, when I did a video at one of the tuning events, the tuner wanted me to try going up a couple of flavors and wanted to see if I liked it.. so I agreed and I got used to it and now I really like the sensitivity. Especially since I have a very light foot on the pedal.. I would probably say for someone who has a stock setup and is looking for an every day driver setting the mild/medium will probably be perfect for you.. when you get the tune the tuner can let you try out different settings to make sure you’re happy before you leave.. so don’t sorry about having to choose a flavor blindly👍🏼

    • @fernandoballard7591
      @fernandoballard7591 5 месяцев назад +1

      Awesome. Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I’ll definitely try a couple of settings then. I’ll start with the mild/medium. If I like it, I’ll stop there and if I find it too much for my driving style I’ll have the tuner downgrade me to light/mild. I like the exhaust quietness at low speeds with the stock tune. I don’t really enjoy a loud exhaust from the engine reving high constantly. From the videos I’ve watched the spicier flavors seem to cause that louder effect. Another quick question I would like to clarify if you don’t mind, the flavor level only affects throttle sensitivity and everything else stays the same across all flavor levels correct? In other words, are the transmission shift points impacted by the flavor you choose? Sorry to bother you with all these questions, but we don’t have a local tuner that’s does OTT in my area and I have to wait for the next meet event in May. I want to make sure I educate myself as much as possible to get the best setting possible for my driving style and avoid having to wait for another meet event to make any a changes.
      Cheers.

    • @westcoasttaco
      @westcoasttaco  5 месяцев назад

      @@fernandoballard7591 no worries at all! And yes, I believe what you’re stating is correct about the throttle sensitivity yet the shift points remain the same regardless of the flavors. At the end of the day I have no doubt this will probably be the best upgrade you do to your truck because I can say now after having it for one year that it is for me. You will notice the exhaust isn’t that much louder, it just sounds less muted, and dampened.. it honestly just sounds like the way you would envision the truck driving from the factory.. how much of a difference a tune makes when it comes to overall drivability, performance, and new satisfaction of the Tacoma is pretty outstanding. Looking forward to hearing how your experience goes and what you think of the tune.

      What I had with lite/mild was so touchy that it was nerve wracking to park or navigate tight parking garages in the city. Backing into a parallel parking space gently feathering in throttle and it moves slightly slightly more nothing and then suddenly it's like you floored it. It's touchy enough that the jerk of the truck moving suddenly then moves your foot and gives you either less or more throttle so it's really sensitive. The couple times I've taken it for service I can see the tech looking confused when they hop in my truck to drive it away and get their head knocked into the seat just touching the throttle to move it into a bay...
      I don't know if my experience is unusual but I can't see how anyone could daily drive mild unless they are heavily loaded. Using the ECT mode with lite/mild it was so touchy that it just spun the wheels trying to turn out of a stop sign at low speeds.
      Highway was fine and an improvement but in town in 1st or 2nd gear was fairly unpleasant. I gave it a couple thousand miles and had it reflashed to something less touchy.

    Anybody have the medium/spicy tune? Thinking about going down to mild/medium because mine is too jumpy

    Why does the thumb nail say race? You make people think you have 0-60 times for each tune.. this is click bait

      @@user-du4id1tv1p “Race” is a tune setting you can get. Lite, Mild, Medium, Spicy, Super Spicy, and Race are all throttle control settings.

    I have a long bed Tacoma with 33 tires and suspension lift. Would medium/spicy work better for me?

    • @westcoasttaco
      @westcoasttaco  10 месяцев назад +1

      It might, a lot of it depends on your driving style.. I drive with a lighter foot and enjoy the enhanced throttle sensitivity/responsiveness of the medium/spicy. Some might consider it too jumpy.
