- Recently so many people have asked if I am still liking the Overland Torque tune on my 3rd Gen Tacoma. Another common question is “did your torque converter shudder come back?”. Here is my update and thoughts after 1 year with OTT.

2021 Tacoma OR owner here. I drove 30K miles all stock since buying it new. I installed the the OTT mild/medium about 3 months ago. I put 17" TRD pro 4 runner wheels with Michelin defender ltx m/s2 265/75 r17 tires on at the same time. The transformation is unbelievable. The truck is so much more fun to drive. The acceleration is way faster, shifting is smoother and ride comfort is seriously improved. The OTT tune was the best $500 I have spent hands down. It feels like a completely different truck. Its awesome climbing hills and much faster off the line. Great stuff for sure!
You said you installed the OTT mild/medium; did you install it yourself?
@richarde1355 No, PNW tuning came to my house and installed it. It took about 20 minutes. By far the best $500 I have spent on any gen 3 Taco upgrade ever. Highly recommended. It's a completely different driving experience on my 2021 TRD OR automatic. I have had it for several months now and still can't believe how much it has changed the truck. Throttle response is great, fast off the line, highway passing on hills is amazing. It's just WAY more fun to drive.
@@billa5289 does it feel easier and smoother accelerating onto the highway with fast moving traffic? My concern is always feeling like Im smashing the pedal to catch up. Also how is the MPGs now that you’ve done the tune? Worse? Better? The same?

I love their tune, had the KDmax previous, OTT is way better, i mostly wanted to switch for the gear locking capacity. I still use my pedal Commander with the tune for Eco mode, before the Eco mode was useless, that's how much of a difference it made.great review video
After a lifetime of Jeeps i got a 2021 SR and quickly turned it into a TRD clone w/ no badging- all blacked/greyed out, no emblems, badges or decals that aren't state tax stamps.
I got the medium/spicy tune a few months ago. IMO these Tacoma trucks want to be driven hard. My average is 15.8 mpg but most of the time I drive like I'm in a stadium truck. It's already a beast just with the tune, the CAI, and the stock exhaust but I'm installing the AWE dual exhaust this month which will put me over the 300HP mark. I think people are very much surprised how much sauce the taco has, but it's not going to be a sleeper after the dual exhaust goes in.
If you are on the fence about getting the OTT tune, just do it. DO IT NOW!

The only thing that sucks about the OTT is that I lost 3-5 mpg was getting 21-22 and dropped to 17-18. Well worth not having it to shift constantly!!! Now adding the super charger with the OTT that would be the BEST!!!!

That’s odd, most OTT owners get 1-2 mpg Better mpg.
The OTT increases the horsepower and torque.
Never heard of someone getting worse mpg w the tune.
@@Doc1855 My installer said I lose a couple of mpg. Nothing has been added for mods since I've got the tune and it's been a year. I put the tune on shortly after WCT did.
@@BoiseTDI I love the Tune and even have the mild/medium setting and still haven't used the ETC button to use med. My truck is stock for the most part. Like I told @DOC1855 I was told that I'd lose 1-2 mpg for installer. Maybe heavy mod trucks get better?
Found a fix for torque converter shudder. Mine shuddered stock and with the tune. It would happen while you're accelerating slowly in 5th or 6th gear while it's under 1500 rpm. One tank of premium gas and it was eliminated. I am convinced this engine is pulling timing on 87 causing some trucks to shudder. It has a louder exhaust note and better acceleration with premium as well. It's too bad it's $1.00 per gallon more for premium in my neck of the woods.
ECT on might help as well.

@@hikenmikes8262 Night and day for me. Gear hunting is gone. I’ve noticed a huge difference when hauling as well. Definitely not as sluggish. Great mod.

I’m having the OTT installed on May 24th in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

@@hikenmikes8262 I really recommend the OTT. It increases your horsepower by 25 as well as your torque. Your torque kicks in at 2,300 RPM instead of 3,800 RPM. The transmission is buttery smooth and it no longer “hunts” for the right gear.
And I’m getting better fuel mileage.
Where my truck used to kick down into 4th gear, it now stays in 5th when going up a mountain when I go into the city.
Also consider a cold air intake. This too will increase your horsepower and torque.
My Tacoma now has 318 horsepower and 295 lb ft of torque while still getting 21.9 MPG with the cruise set at 82mph.

I’ve had three different tunes in my truck. Ott is by far the best. I’ll real happy with it and actually get better mpg along with power etc
I went to get new tires, after the alignment the guy did a test drive and said your truck is kind of a Dog. He has a tacoma and told me where he got his tuned, I made a call as I drove away from the tire shop and straight to get a tune. Best mod .. ! If anything it's a little to responsive.

New 2021 Tacoma OR owner. I am looking at the OTT tune but I am also looking at an injen cold air intake and an exhaust. Should I have the tune done after the cold air intake and exhaust?

No it’s CARB Legal , if I’m not mistaken they provide a Carb Legal Sticker under the hood when they finish installing your tune.

If, and this is a big if, your vehicle requires maintenance is it possible for a dealership to undo what you paid for in tuning by resetting everything? I’m currently averaging 24.6 mpg in my 2023. My biggest complaint is the gear hunting in the tranny.
No, once you pay to have it done it’s like a membership.. you don’t have to pay to have it retuned or adjusted.👍🏼

They download it into your computer on your truck.

Anyone with OTT tune if you dont go pass 35mph what gear does the tune make you stay in?
I'm looking at getting a tacoma, probably next tax season. I already have a whole build list planned. The OTT will be the 1st mod.
I want to get 31.5 inch K02s but I'm worried about the balancing issues. What's ur experience with the K02s? Any downsides?
Im also worried abou the back seat area being too cramped for a family. I have a 1 1/2 year old daughter and another daughter coming in June. I just wana make sure the whole family is comfortable and the car seats fit no problem. If u could do a video about the size of the truck for small families , that would be cool 👍
Only downside to the KO2’s is their weight since they are an E rated tire.. so with that you lose some of your mpgs, but outside of that I love them.
It will be perfect for a small family. Kids 10 and under should have no issues with fitting back there. Depending on how large the car seats are I don’t see any issues, but I can definitely do a video on it 👍🏼
@westcoasttaco Whats a good substitute for k02s? Wild peaks are the most common I've been seeing lately. A guy at work has my dream tacoma build as a daily, and he has wild peaks I believe. What would be your 2nd go to tire?

@@westcoasttaco ok cool, btw I love the truck build 👌 my ideal tacoma would be a silver double cab long bed on 31.5 tires with bronze wheels. OTT and maybe 4.88 gears ⚙️ then some diode dynamics SS3 Pro OEM foglight replacement for fog/snow. Then bright white ditch lights or/and the hidden bumper light bar.

2021 trd pro well right off the top I noticed the FM Radio sucks I get no clear reception I've asked around and I haven't heard anything or a clear solution so my question is it me or has anyone out there have noticed the poor quality of. the radio or antenna

Buy a d3 tuner You can do it yourself switch back to the OEM and it comes with 8 tunes and much more + don't have to pay somebody else.

If yall worry about gas prices buy an electric vehicle. I hate when people expect to get 10 millions miles per gallon.
