2024 Toyota Tacoma SALES TANK... Here's Why People Have ZERO Interest!

  • The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma has had a ROUGH start. People have not shown much interest in this new midsize pickup truck, which is really sad considering it's reputable legacy. The new 4 cylinder Tacoma disappoints for many reasons. The tiny engine, made in Mexico quality control, tiny back seat, and most of all... the RIDICULOUS price tag.
In this video I peel back the layers of this onion more. I talk through the specific reasons why sales have plummeted for the new Tacoma this first quarter. I showcase some of the competition and their price tags by comparison. We look at the Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, and GMC Canyon here. All of which appear to a better bang for your buck now. People are voting with their pocket books. Toyota enthusiasts who have followed the brand for decades are peeling off. They're not sold on the garbage Toyota is putting out now. It's not a great truck and certainly doesn't much peace of mine. A naturally aspirated V6 platform is what truck people want. They want THREE THINGS: 1) Reliability, 2) Simplicity and 3) Affordability. That's it! Is that too much to ask Toyota? cmon.
What are your thoughts? What would it seriously take for you to consider buying one? Is it a 25-30% price cut? Is that enough? A new v6 option? Let me know. Would you take the new Ford Ranger Raptor OVER a 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro or Trailhunter?
As always, thank you for taking the time to tune it. I greatly appreciate th support! If you haven't already, please consider Liking and Subscribing. Your support means a lot and it doesn't go unnoticed. Thanks!!

V-8s have become turbo V-6s, and V-6s have become turbo I-4s. starting with the 2025 model, you can no longer buy a non-hybrid non-turbo Camry. My 22’ Canyon has the last 3.6L V6 GM produced for their midsize truck platform before switching to a 2.7L four banger as the only engine available. It’s been rock solid. I wouldn’t buy one of those 4 cylinders, but they’ve been in production now in the Silverado/Sierra for about five years and the Colorado/Canyon for about a year, and they’ve proven fairly reliable. But here’s the rub- vehicles that use them are getting WORSE fuel economy than the V6 power plant that they replaced, and GM no longer offers a diesel alternative that actually gets exceptional gas mileage in the truck platform.
And you too can have one for THOUSANDS of dollars more than what you would’ve paid for the previous generation midsize. Toyota’s newest platform four cylinder is even less proven and returns terrible gas mileage as well, all for THOUSANDS of dollars more than what the actual fair market value of the truck is. This is insanity on the level of a typical General Motors marketing strategy, but coming from Toyota, who has historically outsold GM in this class by a mile. Bravo Toyota, bravo…😂

Well, now its Toyota who is eating a $hit sandwich with their new Tacoma launch. They slowed production of their launch so that they don't saturate the dealerships with more unmovable 2024 Tacoma inventory. Hell, look at the new Tundra inventory...Toyota wants to keep Tacoma production inventory levels lowerer now so as to give the illusion that these P'sOS are in demand, except that plan didn't work. I "was" not a Toyota loyalist because of the name plate, I exclusively bought Toyotas because of their product quality, reliability and cost to purchase (value). Seems Toyota forgot all three of these consideration on their new trucks.

I've only driven the Hyundai Santa Cruz and the Chevrolet Colorado so far and based on value and ride I like the Colorado way more. I'm going to hit Toyota and Nissan to see what they offer but the Chevy dealership was offering pretty big discounts it will be hard to beat.

Toyota needs to give us options on engines like they did before: Tundra V8 NA with 5.7 or 4.6 and the new engine 3.4. Tacoma with options for a V6 NA at least. Same for the LandCruiser & LX a V8 option; GX with a V8 option still. I have a 2019 Tundra V8 5.7 that gives me about 480-580 mile range on premium gas and a GX460 V8 4.6 that gets 350-450 range on premium gas. All depends how you drive them and premium gas. Love the Toyota V8’s. No need for turbo engines, at least for me. I spent a lot more or even twice as much on turbo cars the way I drive. Cant have them. Thanks for making this videos, keep at it!! Every other manufacturer offers at least 3 engine types. Toyota went away from that.

Its absolutely freaking insane that a midsoze truck with cloth seats costs 53k! With lower quality on top of all if that. All while spending 80%less on labor costs. Its pure greed. Toyota has lost me as a customer with the crap they are putting out. Toyota used to mean long term reliability amd long lasting products. My wifes 2016 Sequoia has jad notning but oil changes amd a set of brake pads over the last 109k miles. It has tons of space and doesnt rattle like these new trucks. It still drives like a new vehicle and people are always surprised how quiet and nice it rides. Much better ride than my coworkers 2018 escalade and it doesn't have the squeaks and rattles the escalade has.

Though I hear what you are saying for real truck things . LOTS of us buy a truck as a family " TOY " hauler . For yaks and bikes and coolers , chairs etc. Plus maybe hauling a pop-up or fishing boat . The 2.7 NA is fine for lots of people , "IF" they fixed the BS transmission , or better yet . Make it with a Manual . I think we will see massive Sales of the Stout towards the end of this year . If Toyota can keep it a AWD and under 25K , as they have said . Maverick sales will drop like a rock . But I do understand that for real WORK , and hauling of large boats and trailers ... the V6 NA and V8 ARE needed !

Toyota is just starting to repeat all of the mistakes that were made by Ford, including assembling vehicles in Mexico with underpaid and underskilled workers. They have moved away from the larger naturally aspirated V-6s and V-8s. They are forcing people who want the Camry to buy only a more expensive hybrid. This is just so sad, Toyotas used to be the absolute best.

You are spot right with the Tacoma. Last fall of 2023, I had a Nissan Frontier Pro4X as my #3 choice in interest, having in order the Tacoma at #1, Ranger #2, and then the Pro4X in 3rd. Seeing the prices Toyota was going to charge and only Turbos available and how my 2018's Ford F-150 quaility engineering started failing being only 5 years old. My F-150 had a common lug nut metal reaction issue, had to replace 24 of them, tailgate latch release corrosion leading to not being able to open my tailgate, rear camera failure, step sides turning ugly, Ford moved out of ranking pretty quickly. Come on Ford, 5 years old and simple engineering issues. In January 2024 I purchased the Pro4X and have no regrets. The price is right, love the hydraulic steering, solid side steps, plenty of power, great looks. I am loving every minute of the Pro4X right now. Great video!

UM is spot on - tell it like it is. I just went through the hunt for a new mid size truck and was in shock by the Tacoma equation. Alternatives included the GM twins and Ford Ranger. Those fell based on quality over the past few years but outranked the Tacoma for the reasons mentioned here. That left the Frontier and Ridgeline as I really wanted a NA 6 cylinder. After several test drives and reflection of my true needs the 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition went into my garage. They both presented a strong value for my hard earned dollars- far more than a Tacoma. I spend 90% of my time driving on the highway or in the city, and the rest going to a trailhead or lake side or up into the mountains. No longer drive deep off-road. The Nissan is better suited for real 4 wheeling. The Ridgeline’s new interior and highly refined 6 plus outstanding handling did it for me. Loaded it costs what an SR5 with a couple of options sells for….RIP Taco. Nissan and Honda are going to split your market share. I put the outdoor essentials package along with a Lomax trifold cover on my SUT and it significantly changed its appearance. Good luck finding a better midsize value over the Nissan or Honda.
