      Yeah, I think every new Toyota car have had some sort of problem, even the current Rav4 generation when it came out. Always suggested waiting for the 2nd year when they put out a new generation. If you look at the used car market, you are right about the last year of a generation usually holds its value really well because all the issues revolving around reliability have been ironed out and the tech although outdated compared to competitors, is usually a big difference compared to earlier years(better materials for interior, improved led lights, etc). 4Runners are probably the best when it comes to depreciating, even 3 year old 4 runners prior to pandemic could still be sold at msrp levels.

Spending over a week in our new limited really made us appreciate all the quality and build of a Toyota and I don’t regret buying it one minute! Best decision we ever made! Gas mileage was between 19-21 mpg on a full tank of 87 octane…..and once we even got 24mpg up in the mountains of a small town in Virginia. Toyota has my business for a long time….as long as they keep building the 4 runner like my 2023! The 4.0 V6 had sufficient horsepower….@270….

    Watching your videos has helped convince me into getting my own 4runner. My family was in need of a larger vehicle and I was debating on either the 2023 Highlander hybrid, 2023 Honda Pilot, or 2023 4runner. After much thought we decided to go with the 4runner with the 3rd row upgrade.
    As a new owner of a 2023 4Runner Sr5 premium 4x4, I can say I have no regrets. Sure the gas mileage is very poor compared to the Highlander, and pilot, but theres something endearing about the 4 runner.
    The design has aged well and still looks like a modern vehicle given its age.
    I was drawn to the 4runner becuase of its well known reliability and durability.
    Even though the highlander and pilot would probably have been more suited for my family's needs, the 4Runner inspires a spirit of adventure.
    Will i be rock climbing with my 4runner any time soon? Most likely not. But, I do plan to go off the beaten path on a few camping trips and even drive up to Big Bear without feeling deterred from the slight incliment weather.
    I look forward to the many adventures and memories my family will share with our new 4Runner.

The bear hunting sites are located 10 miles away on BAD 2 track. First day we took another guy's brand new Ram 2500 Longhorn. Next day we took the 4Runner. There was no comparison. As soon as I saw there was a year extension on the 5th Gen, and the ‘special’ color on the pro was Solar Octane, it was a ‘must have’. ZERO regrets. It’s replacing a tricked out 2nd Gen I had to give up a decade ago when kids and dogs and stuff forced us into something bigger. It definitely feels like a vehicle from another generation, but in all the best ways possible. You did sortof gloss over a number of differences that set the TRD Pro and TRD Off Road Premiums apart: KDSS option (OR Premium), ATRACS, crawl control, terrain select, etc.). Off the showroom floor, they are so darn capable.

    I have had very good service from any of my Hondas and Toyotas. That being said, I have a Voodoo Blue 2007 FJ Cruiser. I bought it in 2015 with 81k on it. Today, it has 97k and I changed ALL the fluids and I just love driving that machine. Inside the cabin you get a most secure feeling like nothing is going to get you. I love the three windshield wipers and the extra storage box in front of the driver which looks like the passenger airbag cover. This car was equiped with every option available from the factory. The speakers in each front door are huge and even though the CD player is only single load, I have NEVER heard a better factory sound system in any vehicle. It is better than the JBL in our 2013 Avalon Limited with all factory options including the Technology Package. I am thoroughly impressed with that FJ Cruiser and if I were to replace it wiuld be a 2014 or 15 Forerunner. They are better for families than the FJ because of rear door access. I think the way the rear doors on the FJ open and seem to be on an odd hinge set up and seem to drop down is just a marvel and not seen on any other car I know of. The rack on the roof is handy and having the soare tire where you don't have to crawl under the car is a huge plus. As you probably have gathered, I LIKE TOYOTAS

    1 - The spare tire chain is actually the crank-operated, chain-driven spare tire winch that easily raised and lowers the tire to and from the ground. This winch hasn't changed from the 1980's.

Underpowered and bad fuel economy but it's about as reliable as they come. At idle kinda sounds like a diesel. So glad to own one before they started tacking on all the "safety" features.

    I love the 5th gen 4Runners. So simple and very reliable. I almost bought one but it sold before I got the chance so I ended up going with a used GX460 (which is essentially the same frame). I’m very happy with my purchase, the 4Runner and GX are amazing trucks.

      The 4Runner might have the edge with the rear lockers. But the GX is much smoother with the v8/6speed compared to the underpowered v6/5speed and more luxurious. Glad I got the GX.

    • @bryanangelov
      @bryanangelov Год назад +6

      @@robmalcolm8042 Both are great vehicles. I think that the 4Runner's engine is more reliable and overall, the 4Runner is a better off-roader if you get the right trim. It is also cheaper. While the Lexus GX460 comes with a more powerful engine, it is just 0.1 to 0.2 seconds faster than the 4Runner. Unless you put a loaded 4Runner against the base GX460, the acceleration is almost the same.
      I also think that the 4Runner will depreciate much less and/or it may actually appreciate it if Toyota decides to kill it and replace it with the smaller Land Cruiser. I wonder if the last 4Runners will be valued as the FJ Cruisers.

    • @andybub45
      @andybub45 Год назад +5

      @@bryanangelov The 4runner has a slight edge on off roading due to the optional rear locker and somewhat better approach and departure angles, but it’s definitely not horrible. A far as the engines go, the V8 is going to have some more common problems compared to the 4Runner, but a lot of them are very limited because it was a Japanese built vehicle with much higher build quality. Both are very reliable. And one of the reasons I bought a GX was because it depreciates a bit more than a 4Runner. But still holds value very well and it will continue when the third gen is released alongside the 6th gen 4runner. In my opinion, the GX fixes many things people don’t like about the 4Runner. Noisy engine, gone. Brake nosedive is greatly minimized. Interior uses much higher quality components. Also when shopping used, it’s less likely that you will find a GX460 that’s been abused because most were driven by soccer moms and seniors. But I’m not trying to bash the 4Runner, it is indeed a very good vehicle. Merry Christmas!

      @bryanangelov Год назад +1

      @@andybub45 Absolutely agree with your points. Both of these vehicles are really great and they had made the list when I was on the market to buy a new vehicle for my wife.
      Well both times, in 2014 and 2021, we end up buying something else. She did not like the 4Runner, and last year we bought a 21 Tundra, which has addressed our needs better. It is more powerful, the second row has enough space for two car seats for my younger kids and enough space for my son. The bed of a pickup truck is always a plus.
      Since the 4Runner, the GX460, and our Tundra are technically gas guzzlers, our second vehicle has to be way more fuel efficient and I will most likely wait for the market to calm further down to get one, but I do not have the courage to buy a 4Runner, but I am still tempted.

    I just picked up my preordered 2023 TRD off road in lunar rock….couldn’t be happier. I did a first early break in oil change at 775km. Yes very early but there was a lot of fines in the oil no chunky metal. The filter caught most of that…. But was surprised with the amount. I do all my own minor service so I am used to seeing the break in material in first oil. I will change this one again early at probably 1500 km and again at between 2500-4000km if no more wear is noted the fresh oil n filter every 5000km . I keep my vehicles forever. Plan on this lasting 20 years or so.

I did swap XREAS for a little lift (i just posted that video) and also swapped 20in wheels and tires to 17in TRD Offroad wheels with 285/70R17 tires. Even though TRD Offroad is a great value but TRD Pro and Limited JBL system is really good and you can't get that pleasure with SR5 and TRD Offroad

    My wife and I are from NC but go to Utah as much as we can. We’ve rented Cherokees, Armadas and explorers and taken them all off road from Canyonlands to Cedar Mesa. Did not feel comfortable with the the Explorer off road, but it did have a lot of comfort bells and whistles and was a good ride driving on the highway. When shopping and doing lots of research for a new car in 2021 it came down to the 4Runner and an Explorer which was cheaper, had many more options, and had better gas mileage. We bought a 2021 4Runner TRD Premium for exactly all the reasons this guy mentioned. We regularly take it to deep sand beaches of OBX and effortlessly drive the beaches and will be driving to Utah soon to visit some of trails where we were not comfortable with in an Explorer.

    One thing about putting it in 4wd every month or so to prevent seizing (if you don’t have full-time 4wd or awd), only drive in straight lines e.g in a parking lot unless you’re on dirt or snow. Gear binding can damage the transmission if turning on asphalt in 4wd since the tires wanting to spin at different speeds will fight against the 4wd system. On dirt, the slower tire just slips instead of transferring that twisting motion to the transmission

    You described me to a "T" for why I want the old school Toyotas. I have a 2020 Tundra for that very reason and bought a 5th gen 4runner for my wife. I tried to convince my wife into the TRD Off Road Premium, but Toyota does not have Toyota Connect in that trim. Only Limited and Pro have that at that level: deal breaker for her. I knew that one day I would probably end up with this vehicle when she wants something newer, so even though I could absolutely live with the Off-Road Premium, I had to go with the Pro. My plan is to keep the older Tundra Gen and the older 4runner Gen for myself until there is no more gas or I die.
    As far as the question "should you by the 5th Gen or the 6th", I think all you have to do is ask yourself one thing; Are you satisfied with the changes they've made to the new Tundra and the Sequoia? I am not, in the slightest so I went with the 5th gen 4runner. I'll continue to drive it with my 80's mullet, eating my Pop Rocks with a Rubik's cube on the dash.

      Yeah, I looked at trading my 2016 Tacoma in on 2021 Tundra, I wanted the crew max but I hate how short the bed is so I didn't pull the trigger. I'm buying a 2023 4Runner off road next week (Pro is simply not worth the extra $8,000- he is 100%, completely right in the video). I wanted my wife to get a 4Runner in 2021 but she bought a Highlander instead (it does ride much better than the 4Runner) turns out she bought one of the last v6 models available. I think the next gen Tacoma and 4Runner are edging close to the quality of their competitors, Sad!
