A lot of the modern car features I can appreciate and understand why they changed but many changes like electric parking brake, electric lift gate, panoramic roof, big rims and low profile tires and many others. They keep trying to fix things that are not broken making the vehicle much more complicated and much much more expensive to maintain and repair!

I went out and bought a 2022 SR utility package (no rear seats) 4 cylinder precisely because I wanted to get a taco before they changed it. I wanted simplicity and reliability above all else. I got 2022 because at that time we weren’t sure if the 2023 was going to be 4th gen.
Either way I’m sure the 2023 is more expensive given inflation so I’m happy I bought sooner than later. I switched from a 2000 impala so to me the 3rd gen is like a spaceship compared to the tech I was used to.
If you care about reliability get a new 3rd gen while you still can. Only time will tell if the 4th gen is going to be good.

I just found your page. Thanks for your attention to detail & your review of all of the systems here. This is the most complete review that I've found so far. After logging almost 300,000 miles on my 2004 Tundra, LTD, TRD, Double Cab, 4.7 Liter V8 it has been a champ. All of the accessories still work, but it is suffering frame rot even though it was involved in the Tundra frame recall campaign a few years ago & was sand blasted & re-undercoated, it rusted from the inside-out. My mechanic won't put it on his lift anymore, so it's time to move it on. At 73, I'm over the "bells & whistles" phase of my life & just want economical, basic, durable, long lasting transportation, so I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of my 2023 Tacoma SR base level access cab, 6' bed, 3.7 liter, 4 cylinder, A/T truck. I chose the 4×4 drive because I live in the hilly Western Franklin County, Western Massachusetts at the base of the Birkshires. Your review has convinced me that I made the right choice. I look forward to many years of reliable driving. You have a new subscriber. Keep up the good work. Can you recommend a high quality hard tonneau cover for the bed?

I have a 2022 TRD Off Road and I have absolutely love it. Aside from some minor suspension differences it is almost identical to the Pro. I love the simplicity. It just simply works and works well. It is a truck where so many trucks today try so hard to be like a car. Total truck DNA. I plan to have this truck for a long time. Every vehicle has “common problems”. More technology typically means more things to go wrong and more cost to repair or replace. The Tacoma’s common issues are minor and very easy to deal with. Old school is best because it works. Great review. Thanks for reaffirming my decision. Love your videos. I watch every one.

I also upgraded all the interior lights to LED as well ass the back up lights. I love this truck and how it looks so much.
Edit: I had to come back and add more after I finished the video. I love how he was talking about how all this trucks feature and very old, or old school. Man, when I went from my 2010 VW jetta which only had heated seats and side mirrors and an am/fm cd player radio and THATS IT. So when I upgraded to my tacoma I thought the push button, radio, bsm, back up camera, etc were so advanced. I felt spoiled moving to that truck! 😅 Lastly, I'm glad he mentioned the AC issues with these trucks because I could have swore when I bought mine, that it felt a little weak right off the lot.

I have the OR version with some of the key upgrades that bring the spec to the level of the Pro (exhaust and interior, with my own Bilstein 6112 and 5160 suspension with a 1" lift- keeping it close to daily driver-tude). Sometimes simpler is better if it is still a solid, quality build, and I have to say driving mine everywhere is really excellent. It turns 30 years old this year and is what you call "Old School" with crank windows, manual locking, nothing you push a button to accomplish a task. Great truck with one problem, and it has a hard time passing smog with it normally failing in the Nitrogen Oxides NO2 level for California. Any where else they are considered safe. Old is not always bad. As most know with new revisions of the Tacoma and 4Runner will have its reliable downside until the bugs are fixed. That’ll be after two years or so. I for one like it simple. Tried and true. That’s why I purchased my 4Runner last year before the new change.

As always, Toyota trucks are tried and true trucks. They are the most reliable trucks in the world. I’ve owned a Tacoma, a 2003. I sold it and bought a 2007 Toyota Tundra with the tried and true 5.7 V8. I needed it to pull our camper. Keep your videos coming. 😁👍

I have a 2019 Sport V6 4 by 4. And not one single problem. I do do the oil changes every 5K and all the maintenance on time. And it's always been garaged since I bought it new it's been a great truck.

I love my 2022 Tacoma! It’s my third one 2007, 2019 and now this one. All have been TRD OFF-ROAD. I wish it was more old school with an actual heat nob. Biggest issue is the filter leaks. I have changed mine 2 times in 10 months! My truck stays full of dust! My AC works good even here in the Mojave Desert

I put a deposit down a couple of months ago on a TRD Sport with manual trans. Have been waiting for it to arrive at the dealer. One of the biggest complaints I have about modern cars is all the high tech stuff and computers that make them very expensive to repair when they break down. These are things that I can live without. After watching this and other similar TCCN videos, I am so glad. AMD, you are the Man. I've been binge watching your videos since last night.😊

Thanks for the review, was considering trading my 2019 for a new one but decided against it. Just a side note I found out today as we were looking at a 2018 highlander . I was trying to get the maintenance history and mentioned to the salesman that I disliked Toyotas 10G oil change intervals and He told me they changed it to 5G for harsh climate areas which unless I missed it never heard You mention. It’s a step in the right direction anyway. I don’t even let mine go that long.

You better check recalls and technical service bulletins before you buy a 2018 highlander.

@@randy74989 Thank You, I will do that. I knew about the floor mats and did see that they replaced the low pressure fuel pump, which was also done on My 2019 Tacoma. Is there something else I should be aware of?

2016 TRD sport 4WD long bed. Ordered from factory arrived Feb 2016. Transmission shifting drove me nuts. I had an aftermarket KD Max 2.0 program installed in the ecm a few years ago. Made a world of difference shifting, engine power, throttle sensitivity. Drives great now. Just passed 100k miles. Only problem I have had over the ownership is the timing cover leak, had to pull the engine to fix.

I had the same dilemma when buying my nissan frontier. Buy a 2020 old style or wait for the new version. I decided to go for theold style because I just wanted a truck that would last. My 2020 is built like a tank and hasn't failed me.

Similarly, the 2023 4runner is also the last generation new car of old school , and the solar octane used by TRD PRO this time is really special. Very eye-catching in the sun👍

Wow. What a review! You did a great job. I think you said it best at the very end … “this truck is not for you if you’re the type to want something new every few years and appreciate new tech… this is best for a buyer that intends to keep it for the long haul”…. Nearly every metric on a Tacoma seems honestly subpar compared to other competing brands; tech, updated designs , available options, fuel economy , engine advancements and improvements …. But that’s what keeps this thing so unique, and people are still clearly willing to pay money for that. In a culture where we just seem to throw everything away once we get bored of it, it’s nice to see a manufacturer who still wishes to embrace what made them successful in the first place.

It amazes me. That thing is probably close to $50.000, and yet it does not get a hood insulation pad, those work wonders on making the engine quitter

They used to assemble some tacos in Texas. Moved them all to Mexico. Labor is cheaper and the price remains the same...
