I just want you to know that you have made a 90's kid born in the mid 80's very emotional and happy with this video. The Terminator and T2 are still my favorite movies, more than 30 years later since I've seen them for the first time. Since then I must have seen each of them, well over 300 times. I will one day visit LA to see many of these locations myself, so thank you for putting the exact addresses in the video. Out of all things, I really want to sit where Arnold sat at the beginning, to see that beautiful LA view at night! Thanks again for this gem of a video!
this film means a piece of childhood for me. I've always wondered where these places are and whether they still exist, it's unbelievable that so little has changed. Great work. Thanks for this video.
As someone who grew up with this film and who lives far away (Australia), the locations have always been something of a fascination for me. Appreciate this video, thanks very much and well done!
As a former LA resident, I always felt so lucky to have that many films made in the public areas of the city and you are making a real documentary of these, thank you for your efforts and most enjoyable videos.
20 years ago, I went on vacation to California and drove around Los Angeles. When I got home (Poland), I went to the cinema to see Terminator 3. It was amazing, but many of the places I saw live appeared in the film. I had a completely different experience with this movie.
Two other locations that I discovered which were used for filming was 6000 S Boyle Ave, Vernon, CA and the Panama Hotel 403 E 5th St, Los Angeles, CA. The area in Vernon was used for the Police Station massacre sequence. The Panama Hotel on the other hand was used for the graphic scenes where the Terminator does the self repair scenes where he removed the damaged eyeball and repaired his ruptured arm.
I really enjoy filming location videos, but this might be the best I've ever seen. Really detailed and informative. This is how filming location videos should be - the gold standard.

Great video of my favorite Terminator movie. I still remember when I first saw the movie. I was at my uncle’s cottage in Northern Ontario Canada and he only had a small tv and a vcr for entertainment. So, when me and my family went into town for groceries, we saw that they had VCR movies for rent at the hardware store, so that was the movie I picked and my sister picked “The Wild Life”. That afternoon, we watched movies, and I watched the “Terminator” twice. I loved that movie, and as a 13 year old boy in 1984, I liked Bess Motta from “The 20-Minute Workout” ,who played Sarah Connor’s friend and roommate that got killed.

The Terminator is one of my favorite films. I like how the first film had alot of horror elements to it and the fact it was a suspenseful mystery half way through the film before it turns into a complete action flick. It's also cool that most of the movie takes place at night. Sure some of the special effects are dated but the fact that this movie was made on such a shoe string budget it's actually very impressive. Stan Winston did a amazing job with the T-800 and you really believe there's a metallic endosekelenton underneath Arnold Schwarzenegger's skin. Casting Schwarzenegger as the Terminator was a stroke of genius because in the original concept James Cameron saw the Terminator as a chameleon who could blend into a crowd unnoticed. Lance Henriksen was originally going to play the part but when James Cameron met Arnold he realised his mistake and gave it to Schwarzenegger instead. Arnold Schwarzenegger sure can't hide into a crowd very well but it doesn't matter much. He brought this idea of an unstoppable killing machine just by being such a large muscular man.

Thanks for putting this together. I remember seeing Terminator as a teenager, and its sequel changed my life - I changed my career path to work in visual effects, and actually worked for and briefly met James Cameron at his effects company, Digital Domain, in the 90s. Interesting that the gun shop address is 14329, and the first Sarah Connor is at 14239.

If I recall correctly, without permits. They filmed mostly at night cuz its was less busy. and they had to run from cops and such several times. The fact that this movie bacame what it is is amazing.

Ahh thanks for the trip down memory lane! The hotel scene with the Spartan Burgers in the background hit home as I was raised in Huntington Park and went to HP High School from 80-84. I and went to that Spartan Burgers every Friday night home football game. Seeing that brought back some good high school memories! Kudos for putting together another great vid!

6:09 Just to add a little tidbit here; if you look to the left in this shot you can just see the railing of an exit ramp that leads up to 1st Street. During the car chase (after Tech-Noir), there's a trailing shot where Reese speeds up that ramp and makes a hard left onto the 1st St. 👍
Wow! I love this! Clear narration, great job for adding the movie scenes for reference and awesome quality video of the current movie locations. Well done!
By just wanting randomly to see some videos about filming locations of the 1st Terminator (I had already seen a video about T2) I stumble upon your video. It’s extremely informative and funny at the same time! This is the type of videos RUclips was made for! As a nostalgic of the 80’s (a time I wasn’t born yet!) I wholeheartedly subscribe to your channel!
The Terminator is one of my favourite movies of all time so this video was a real trip for me. Kudos to you for the time, effort and detail of making this, had an absolute blast watching. Thank you.
I love these videos - very cool. Little movie trivia: I read on another filming site that the same night they were filming the bar scene in T-2, it was just down the street and under the overpass from where Rodney King was being thumped by LAPD. In this video, did anyone notice the nearly identical address numbers on the gun shop and the Sarah Connor #1 house? 14239 and 14329
Dude it’s so funny. When I first started watching your videos I was thinking to myself boring. Now I’m so hooked on all your work. Great job bro. I enjoy your videos.
I love the attention do little details here, good job! Plus I'm surprised to see the addresses not being fabricated for the movie. It was always a trivia piece that the gun shop and false Sarah's houses had very similar numbers. It turns out that they actually are this way in reality which I had no idea about
Everything about this is an overdose of nostalgia. It makes me want to go back to earlier times. In some of which I wasn't even born yet. I do feel extremely grateful being a 90s kid though. To live before the cellphone and computer addictions. I feel like it was another world.
Same for me. I wasn’t born until the mid 80s. I am so grateful to have lived out my childhood in the 80s and 90s before cell phones and the internet took over. Arcades and the sight of blockbuster video among other things will always be nostalgic to me.
I was a teenager during the 80s and it really was a great time to be alive. I think i first saw this film in 1990 on the BBC 2 series Moviedrome. Really miss the 80s.
Brilliant vid. I've watched the film so many times, really amazing to see all these locations and how some of them have barely changed. Anyone else notice the similarity (in this vid) between gun shop address number - 14329 - and the number on the first Sarah Connor's building - 14239? That's got to be some kind of wild coincidence.
I noticed that too and first thought there was some reason that the movie producers chose similar numbers but now we know that those are actually legitimate street address numbers. Kinda strange for sure.

Way cool video, excellent introduction for the subject reminiscent of Steven King's Bishop of Battle, Tron, ect. In am so thankful that the algorithm brought this to me. The backround music, your narration as well as take on the genre and trivia. If you're not proud of it that's too bad you should be.
If I remember correctly Terminator 1 was also filmed mostly "rogue style", because they didn't have the budget to get the filming permits; they just went out with a crew and got the shots. The 2003 movie Lost in Translation also shot a lot of their scenes without permits, but that was shot in Japan where it can take months to get permits, so the crew just filmed and hoped they didn't get caught.
Spartan burger in now gone. Yesterday I saw it being painted to be a mexican restaurant. I’m glad I got a chance to try their burgers before they closed forever.

I find myself often skipping back and forth in you videos to get a close comparison of the scenes, so having a side by side shot too would be awesome. If I recall correctly, without permits. They filmed mostly at night cuz its was less busy. and they had to run from cops and such several times. The fact that this movie bacame what it is is amazing.
@@merlyworm yeah, I heard that too. It’s crazy 😂
I'll be back.
To see all the years between the movie and now disappear instantly is a trip great documentary
Omg!!! Dude I think you did a awesome job with this video. You just got yourself another subscriber. Anything fr the 80s hands down the best in my eyes. Keep up the good work.
Airwolf!
Thank you so much!
@@Vbnklll Jan Michael Vincent was my favorite of the show.
GREAT video, Kurt! I enjoyed this very much! Can't wait till your next one... thank you for helping us relive such an AMAZING decade!
My pleasure! Thank you
You’re the freeking man dude! Absolute blast watching this video. It’s a work of art !
Thank you so much
Thats total nuts, man! I´ve no idea what freakin amount of work you did to make this video, but its totally worth it. It´s so cool to see all these familiar places and how they look today. Keep up your good work and greetings from Germany. You have a new Subscriber! 😃 👋
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it!
I discovered your channel a few weeks ago. As a member of the class of 1985, I’ve been enjoying some nice memories. Thank you.
This is by far the best "than-now" video I've ever seen. As a small RUclipsr I know a lot of effort went into this video! Amazing job!
Well done!
Another AWESOME video!! Definitely my favorite channel to watch. Thank you from San Antonio TX
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it
By just wanting randomly to see some videos about filming locations of the 1st Terminator (I had already seen a video about T2) I stumble upon your video.
Thank you.
That was some fine work. Really enjoyed seeing the comparisons between 1984 and today
Thank you!
wow excellent job finding the locations! incredible how things change over nearly 40 years.
Thank you
I love these videos - very cool. 14239 and 14329
Yes I did notice that actually from a different video on the same subject. 👍
Dude it’s so funny. When I first started watching your videos I was thinking to myself boring.
Now I’m so hooked on all your work.
Great job bro. I enjoy your videos.
Everything was so much nicer in the 80s. SMH. Thank you for this great nostalgia!
Amazing as always mate! Can’t wait for T2!
YES!
Thank you.
Seconded. lol
It came out in 1991. Unless you mean ... oh, never mind.
I love the attention do little details here, good job!
Plus I'm surprised to see the addresses not being fabricated for the movie. It was always a trivia piece that the gun shop and false Sarah's houses had very similar numbers. It turns out that they actually are this way in reality which I had no idea about
Thank you for watching
Everything about this is an overdose of nostalgia. It makes me want to go back to earlier times. In some of which I wasn't even born yet. I do feel extremely grateful being a 90s kid though. To live before the cellphone and computer addictions. I feel like it was another world.
Same for me. I wasn’t born until the mid 80s. I am so grateful to have lived out my childhood in the 80s and 90s before cell phones and the internet took over. Arcades and the sight of blockbuster video among other things will always be nostalgic to me.
Same. I really miss the 90's.
as a 5 year old i saw it in 1991 at my cousins, sneaking away from parents, to see it! brings back memories
I was a teenager during the 80s and it really was a great time to be alive. I think i first saw this film in 1990 on the BBC 2 series Moviedrome. Really miss the 80s.
Dude- as an 80's kid and avid Terminator fan...... this is so amazing to me. Thank you!
This has to be one of the best Terminator film location guides on RUclips. Thank you. 👍
Brilliant vid. I've watched the film so many times, really amazing to see all these locations and how some of them have barely changed. Anyone else notice the similarity (in this vid) between gun shop address number - 14329 - and the number on the first Sarah Connor's building - 14239? That's got to be some kind of wild coincidence.
i noticed that too
Yeah - had me shaking my head too!
Was looking for someone else noticing this 😂
I noticed that too and first thought there was some reason that the movie producers chose similar numbers but now we know that those are actually legitimate street address numbers. Kinda strange for sure.
"Listen, and understand! That Terminator is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever, until you are dead!"

New sub, looooove this soooo much, thank you!!! I live on the west coast of Canada. Have had relatives in Orange County growing up, visited a few times and always loved it. Looking forward to watching all of your videos.
Honestly, these are the best filming locations videos on youtube. I beg you for more..
Thank you so much!!! More on the way
Thanks for filming and sharing, this was wicked cool. The locations really are a character unto themselves and this is a solid reminder not everything changes as much as we like to complain. I'll have to make a mental note to visit Spartan Burger if I ever find myself in LA.
Thank you!
Thank you for another awesome video! Just letting you know that your hard work and dedication to make videos such as these are extremely appreciated :) Too bad the mountains were torn down tho 😔 ...just kidding!...nice one at the end of the video! 😂🤣✌🏻
Haha. Thank you. That really means a lot to me. Seriously
RIP Alamo gun store owner.
1927-1984.
Hey just what
you see pal.
Working in a gun store Southern California late 80s and early 90s. We would play along with the phone calls and patrons in the store acting like Arnold from the movie. The gun stores vacant but it still stands in Costa Mesa.
Dick Miller was also in the movie, matinee with John Goodman.
Awesome thanks man loved this movie
My pleasure. Thank you
Noir is pronounced like the Spanish word “no” and the English word “are”. 🙂 Noir is French and means black.
No is not Spanish...I get your point...but the word no does not originate from Spanish (Latin)...
@@boogiedownbronx73 the Spanish translation of the English word no is no and that’s exactly how the first syllable of the French word noir sounds…
Nwar if you're lazy
well id say more than "No", the -oi- sounds like /ua/ for us spanish
@@davidoliva1036 yeah, but oi is not a syllable in noir. It’s no and ir. 🙂
Main difference: Today all those places have surveillance cameras. In the 80s we where really free, but didn't know it.
Way cool video, excellent introduction for the subject reminiscent of Steven King's Bishop of Battle, Tron, ect. In am so thankful that the algorithm brought this to me. The backround music, your narration as well as take on the genre and trivia. If you're not proud of it that's too bad you should be.
Thank you so much. I appreciate it
Great video! Moved to DTLA a year ago and didn't have a clue I've been walking my dog through a lot of these locations!
Thank you
For an L.A. and T1 nut like me, this video is gold. Massive respect. Just about to watch your T2 vid. Can't wait.
Oooooh no way!!! Glad I got it in my video right before it closed
Your videos are great.
Thank you!!
Great video, there's a few Terminator location vids out there, this trumps the lot. Excellent detail and no bullshit. Straight to the point.
Love it.

Best line in all the movies.
Cyborgs don't feel pain. I do. Don't do that again...
That's a line from the film, yes. Your point is....
The best acting ever seen by Griffith Observatory since James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause! Only surpassed by Sir Keanu Reeves in Paula Abdul's music video for the song Rush, Rush.
10:10 - Pipe Bombs were not the only thing Kyle and Sarah were making in that Motel....
Zing! Haha
😂 GOOD ONE !
Are you insinuating that they were producing Goldberg's first name?
You got me burnin.
Awesome just watch T2 now T1 amazing work!! Earned a subbed pal 👍🏽
I really appreciate your videos and all the work you put into them!
Just a small suggestion if I may, I think it would be really cool if you added some side by side snapshots to some of the locations. I find myself often skipping back and forth in you videos to get a close comparison of the scenes, so having a side by side shot too would be awesome. Anyway it's just a suggestion, keep up the good work, man! :)
One of the white columns looks scorched on the last building right where the explosion would have occured.

That's the Griffith Observatory, not the LA Observatory
