When I was in Santa Monica 2003 as a English tourist, I had a meal or breakfast in that restaurant and someone told me that Heat was filmed in there. Thanks for showing me it again.
Heat is a classic. I always felt it was one of those movies to really capture the gritty side of Los Angeles. Great video, really appreciate the video tour of these awesome locations.
Shortly after moving to Los Angeles in 1997 I went to Kate Mantilini for dinner because I loved the film. They had a huge picture of the Pacino / De Niro scene hanging on the wall in the dining room. Very nice place. Sad it's gone. Great job with this video.
Oh wow! I saw in the theater back then too. Seeing that in person, I would have not slept for a few days. It would have been too much. Maybe higher, getting to see Pacino in-person, just for me say "because she's got a great ass!". Thanks.
Reminds me of the house in "Bosche", which is a show with a crazy eerie theme song. I think the one in Bosche was also used in some other streaming shows. Thanks.
I am surprised Kurt didn't say it's located just around the corner from Tom Noonan's characters house at 9:30 where McAuley and Nate go to get info about the bank job.
My 3rd favorite movie ever. I go to a different heat location every time I am in LA. I have been with your channel since you started. Great job and I am jealous of your endless location opportunities.
I went on holiday from the UK to LA in 2005. It was late 1am and my wife and I asked the cabbie to take us somewhere that was still open. The place he took us to looked super familiar. Then I saw a large poster from the 16:45 scene, with Pacino and De Niro, on the wall! I went crazy! It was the Kate Mantalini restaurant! I asked the waiter, he was so polite, he showed me the table where they sat, mentioned the backstory and said the staff were given the option to stay as extras or have the day off. I tell you, it made my year! I watched Heat maybe 29 times at the cinema when it came out. Watched it on Netflix again last week! My favorite film. This is a fantasic video, such painstaking work. Well done! 🎉
Don’t forget Dante Spinotti! He was my DP masters’ class teacher. Getting the color for Mercury- vapor lamps was difficult, and makes the show. (IMHO) thanks Dante’, and Rockport film workshop!
Over 3 decades ago I used to work around Downtown L.A. and when I seen this movie years later, I recognized so many of those locations. I was telling my son that I used to drive down that same area where they had the big shoot out.
I grew up in Downey, I always passed by Johnnys Broiler even when it was destroyed in 2003. We rebuilt it. But this movie was out in theaters the day I was born. And with my two favorite actors, in my hometown. Crazy.
This is BY FAR the most detailed locations video for Heat I’ve ever seen. Other videos on YT only include a handful of DTLA locations, and always omit the Hilton and LAX locations.
Having grown up in LA and being familiar with many of the filming locations makes your videos that much more memorable. Thank you for the great work and attention to detail in your work. 👍
Just curious…for Wanegro’s first scene, did you have any idea it was shot on Pico? For whatever reason, I always thought it was possibly on Lincoln, near the Santa Monica/Venice area. You couldn’t see much from the shots, however.
funny enough, Al Pacino returns 12 years later to where the "Freedom Town" scene was shot in "Scarface". Ironically as a Detective..lol Great job on these locations sir!👍
im pretty sure the bookstore that he buys the metal book from and she sees him, before the Diner scene, was the Hennessy & Ingalls Art&Architecture that was on Wilshire between 2nd and 3rd.
These locations are super hard to track down and to travel to. These are unique locations and content you won't find anywhere else. Your channel is somewhat of a film history class. Throughly enjoyed this one and all of your other location videos. Can't wait to see which movie you'll cover next!
This film, (together with The Shawshank Redemption) is my #1 of all time. I don't have just ONE #1, I have 2 films that share that top-spot. I love them both equally for different reasons. This filming location video is incredibly detailed! I really appreciated the effort you put in to visiting every scene location, and matching the camera angles for us all. I'm also amazed at how much everything has changed since this was all shot in 1994/1995 Well done!!! I discovered this channel thanks to Terminator 2 filming locations, and was hoping you would "one day" cover HEAT. This day has finally come!!! Bravo!!!
The structures they hide behind at LAX for the final cat and mouse chase are the Glideslope antenna/ILS landing system equipment structures and shacks that most larger airports have for precision landings. The equipment syncs up with the computers and Autopilots on the planes (mostly airliners) to line up planes on final (usually 10 miles, sometimes less) approach and the plane's computer will automatically lock the plane in on what's called the LNAV/VNAV profile for final and landing, centers up the plane with the centerline of the runway, and brings the plane down vertically down on a perfect 3.0 glideslope till the pilot disengages AP and takes manual to land it. I think some are also radar systems. I learned to do ILS and RNAV landings in the flight simulators the past six years on all sorts of aircraft, also in ILS the radio has to be set for that runway's frequency to kick the ILS system in. Each runway with ILS has its own radio frequency as published on the airport's approach plate charts. Anyway, this one of my favorite films of all time, just recently bought the new blu ray and the final sequence never looked or sounded better.
Man…this brought back such great feelings of watching such an epic movie. Tons of respect for the amount of work you put into this. absolutely amazing video…thank you!
What amazes the most out of this video is how the camera is able to transform the appearance of a location. Truly mindblowing! Cinematographers are true artists!
Omg Kurt this is amazing, seen heat 1st time round at the cinema, it has one of the best gun shoot outs ever filmed. You have out done it this time, bloody awesome mate, truly fantastic
One of my all time favorite films. Also one of the most realistic and intense tactical shooting scenes ever put on film. Love this movie. Great video finding all those spots!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO, KURT!!!!! I’ve been waiting for someone to do the filming locations on this movie. This is one of my all time favorite movies!!!!!
Went for this movie when I was 15 to a press showing and cried my eyes out at the ending Just meet Al pacino the other day in London and didn’t disappoint This is my no’ 1 best movie So an amazing film , you want Macauley’s crew to win and you want Hana to succeed also , two aplhas being there best Awesome video to see these locations
My dad worked for Aqua Vend and dropped off the blue Aqua Vend water machine you see in the back ground in the shoot out scene. Always loved this movie. Thanks Kurt.
I made the pilgrimage to the shootout location while on holiday from the UK back in 2018. Had a coffee at the starbucks in the little square outside the bank. One thing that surprised me was how short the distance is between the bank and cop road block... the movie makes it feel a lot further down the road than in real life.
Awesome job dude. Really well researched. I read an article which said the new owners of Trejos house pulled up the carpets and found all the fake blood stains in the wood underneath. Very cool.
Thank you so so much for this. I can’t imagine there’s a more comprehensive location video for Heat. Funny enough, I completely forgot I had lunch at that Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank on holiday in 2017 until I recognized it in your video haha. Thanks again and looking forward to future videos.
Great video Kurt. The funny thing is my girlfriend and I just got done watching this yesterday on Netflix. What are the odds? The family says hi to you and your family. Much love from the east coast. Heat movie fact: Robert De Niro was the first cast member to get the film script. He showed it to Al Pacino, who also wanted to be a part of the film.
As an Angelino, it’s cool to learn where an awesome movie such as Heat was filmed, in areas I’ve been to and others where I have not. Thanks again for another cool vid. 🤙🏼
incredible that this movie is almost 30 years old. A shame the 4K Disc transfer doesn't do it the greatest justice...Heat is one of the best movies of all time. very cool video we appreciate the work you put into this!
"Heat" and "To live and die in LA" are my alltime fave movies, and ty so much for your great research and meticulously documentation of the locatios. Great work!
Yes, I did! Awesome job! So great to see all the locations of the best movies ever! TY! It would be great if there would be videos like this about the locations of"Jacke Brown" or of my fave tv series "Miami Vice " or "Magnum PI ".
Another great video! Heat is one of my all-time favorite crime movies and the shootout scene after the bank heist is arguably the best shoot out scene ever.
Genuinely one of the best filming locations videos I've ever seen. It really helps that you show footage compared to the current state of the location. Brilliant video.
You did an amazing job getting the locations for this film! HEAT is one of my favorite films and I used to live at 3400 S. Centinela Ave. for 20 years and I worked on Century Blvd. right next to the Hilton Hotel so the work you put into this video has a lot of nostalgic significance to me. Thank you so much! Great job!

Thank you Kurt. Excellent job finding all of these locations. This is one of my all time favorite movie's. I've been waiting for someone to make this video. @Mr. E I'm proud of Biden!! I'm an ignorant buffoon who plays video games too.
I saw this at the cinema when I was 21 and I was blown away, wasn't expecting a movie like that. RIP Tom Sizemore
@Mr. E sure. But that's besides the point. Bot!
Rip Tom Sizemore 😢
I was only 6 when it released. Discovered it by chance as a teen and was blown away, still am.
@Mr. E 💯MAGA 🇺🇸
Me too. My coworker wouldn't shut up whenever De niro was in a scene! "Oh he's so hot" " Mmm such a good looking man" etc etc 😂

Still the best shootout scene ever caught on film. I'm glad Kurt had to get it on!
Heat is one of the penultimate LA movies. Like To Live and Die in LA which you also filmed the locations of. Great video and much appreciated
You don't know what the word penultimate means.
@@TheCOZ haha exactly

Heat is a GOAT Movie... Thanks for the Footwork homie.
Crazy to think this movie came out almost 30 years ago. That house on stilts on the side of the hill is crazy.

I wonder if this is the house used in 'They Live'?
