Something people tend to forget or don’t know about the first film is that it’s a horror thriller with sci-fi elements. It was T2 that gave the franchise its action-packed reputation.
Still the scenes with the T1000 still made it feel like a horror movie sometimes especially the scene where he kills John’s dog and even tho we don’t see it. Robert Patrick’s menacing face made it more scarier.

T2 is an absolute masterpiece, one of my all time favorite films for the past 30 years, and definitely the greatest sequel of all time. I wanna see it Kill Counted so badly!
The scene of the Terminator in the police station is truly striking because it's the best scene depicting how unstoppable he is. Sarah and Kyle are for the most part two unarmed people just running from the Terminator. But then it seems like they are safe in a station filled with dozens of guys armed with pistols, shotguns, and even automatic rifles, in any other slasher film they'd be safe, but the Terminator literally just walks in and effortlessly mows them all down without even takaing noticeable damage. Combine that with the music and it's truyl a chilling scene.
@@haiz768The Terminator was actually one of the most requested movies to be covered on The Kill Count. Also, it's his show and he can cover whatever he wants.
@@haiz768Running out of ideas? Bro, do you truly grasp just how many horror movies exist? And how many keep being made? James has enough content to last until the universe ends.
The best thing about this movie was how no matter how they were able to knock the terminator down, it kept on coming. it was a terrifying version of Wile E Coyote in a way
I love that in the behind the scenes when Arnold was doing his fire arms training he spoke at length to his teacher about how a machine would handle each weapon. It really shows in police station massacre when he is effortlessly duel wielding two guns that should require you to two hand and shoulder press them. Add this to his movements throughout the movie and he sells the calculated, unstoppable killing machine that he’s playing. Also fun fact the sound design gets messed up during that massacre as when the terminator clearly fires the pump action spaz shotgun the sound used is for his assault rifle firing off a burst shot.
Behind-the-scenes info for '80s action/horror movies just hit different. It always seems like they're flying by the seat of their pants and making wild improvisations.
It really shows how much effort and creativity went into the sets. It's something you rarely see anymore due to CGI. Practical effects, just like CGI, can be horrible and easily taken advantage of. However, when done right, it really stands out.
We gotta get a petition for James to cover T2, that’s my favorite movie of all time. The effects are unmatched to what I’ve seen and I feel like he would enjoy the behind the scenes stuff
It's no doubt a gem, but I wouldn't really classify it as a horror movie full of kills like the first movie was. The T-1000 had a few on screen kills, but that was really it, while Arnold's t800 was ordered not to kill by John conner. The only notable deaths I can recall are the t-1000 killing johns foster parents and Miles Dyson getting caught in a cross fire and exploding after warning the surrounding police to get away before he dies triggering the explosion
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 as much as I wanna disagree, I totally get it. @@smittyvanjagermanjenson182there’s also the security guard that got stabbed in the eye, which was pretty brutal. But overall it feels more like an action film with some violent kills than a horror movie.
"Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the part of.. TITLE CARD" is officially my favorite title card intro so far 😂 also I think James should cover Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The T1000 was a scary villain
At least the the second one. I don't give a crap about the others but Judgment Day is my favorite. Sarah O'Connor finally becomes the iconic badass we all know her as instead of this whiney brat that "can't even balance my checkbook". Sure it's more action with the damn mini gun, and sure John limits the kills. But, still a TON of horror elements. The t2 murders John's step family including the dog (which is always horror unless it's John Wick 😂) and "scream" style impersonating the voices just like this one. The creepy orderly in the insane asylum, the vision of the future, all the cat and mouse at the end and I LOVED how the melting T2 turned into the screaming faces of everyone he had "been". It's at LEAST as horror adjacent as Aliens 2 which is also more action than the original thriller.
Im realy only hoping for the second one considdering its one of the greatest if not the greatest action movies of all time, and id love to see all the behind the scenes info on T1000
Fun fact, When Kyle arrives in the past he asks a person what the date is. The person says Thursday May 12th, meaning a lot of the kills happened on Friday the 13th.
Thanks for the excellent count guys. My Dad passes away this week, and the last movie we watched together was Terminator. Keep making badass videos, they bring people a lot of joy.
Somebody probably already said this, but Lance Henriksen was also killed by a Xenomorph (Queen in Aliens), Predator (Scar in AvP), and a Terminator (by the T-800 in this film).
@@BTZombie88Ummm, actually ☝️🤓 Bishop was eventually killed by a xenomorph; the one that took out Hicks, Newt, and the ship they were all on. It can be argued that the ship crashing is what killed him, or Ripley unplugging him after reanimating his head for questioning, but it was the direct actions of the xenomorph that caused all of this. So, it stands he was killed by the each of the Big Three. 😂

10:48-11:17 fun fact: this entire scene is actually revisited in Annihilation Line, the story DLC for Terminator: Resistance. You play as a squad member of Kyle Reese and you actually get to meet and know the female soldier (who the game says is named Corporal Charlotte Ferro) and the truck gunner (who the game says is named Evans) before this scene goes down. You also get to actually reenact the battle that this scene shows off, which makes Evans and Ferro’s inevitable deaths hit much harder once you’ve actually spent some time with them
I think T2 is still horror enough. The scene where the T-1000 kills John's guardians and he has a blade through his aunts mouth is haunting and fuckd me up as a child
18:16 ...little known fact... Legendary Tool guitarist, Adam Jones, worked for Stan Winston's EFX team, on Jurassic Park, when he decided to play rock band full time and start a band with Maynard James Kennan.
Do my eyes deceive me, Dead Meat actually doing a KILL COUNT for The Terminator!?! I have been waiting almost since this channels beginning for this to happen, one of my favourite youtubers doing an kill count video about The Terminator, one of the best films to ever come out!?! I consider my almost 7 year old wish fulfilled, thank you.
I thought my eyes deceived as well, I thought that ain't no horror movie but I remembered this movie can kinda be considered horror but I sure was surprised.
For the police station scene: “We’ve got thirty cops in this building.” In “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” “He killed seventeen police officers that night.”
I've always viewed that as the other 13 were wounded but survived Or some of them seeing the attacker was not going down decided 'screw this' and got the heck outta dodge. The machine was not exactly making sure they were all dead. Just shoot and move on as it was pursuing its real target. That and some of those shot looked like they could of survived.
I'd also note that in a deleted scene from the police station, Traxler was wounded, but gave Reese a message and an assault rifle to keep Sarah alive; presuming he had been made a believer of Kyle's story and didn't die.
13:30 I'm actually surprised how many people keep calling the terminator from T1 a T-800 when the T-800 actually appears in the second movie. T1's terminator is a T-101. There's is probably a lore reason why these 2 models look so identical but both movies clearly specify these 2 terminators as distinctly different.
I don't think the concept of the t-(insert number) was invented at the time it was just Cyberdyne systems model 101 so I'm pretty sure t1 and T2's Terminator are the same model
The fact it takes place in 2029 while we’re in 2024-2025 and we’re developing ai is absolutely terrifying how fast we’re going to make the terminator into real life
Sigh, "ai" is marketing BS. It's just the same ol' algorithmic generation we've had for years but on steroids. It's not sentient, it'll never be sentient. It's just doing some complex math and shitting out an image or string of text based on data it's been fed in the past. Also, it requires a shit ton of people on the other side of the world to tell it what it's even looking at so it can actually function. It's also just another tech scam that currently has no profit model and exists off investor money it'll never be able to pay back so it's going to go the way of the NFT soon enough.
James Cameron: The demand for the sequel got bigger each year. James in one month: The demand for the kill count of the sequel got bigger each week. Edit: What’s your favourite Terminator movie?
ABSOLUTELY you should do T2. It's iconic, and while not as horror adjacent, some scenes like the T-1000 killing and replicating people can get in that territory. Even if we don't, I'm glad we got this one!
I lost my dad last month and he is the one who introduced me to this movie, love to see it being covered by one of my favorite channels! Loved the video.
here are two fun facts: 1. when arnold read the line ill be back he said to james it dosent sound like a machine so camron said: what does the goddamn script say i dont correct your acting and you dont correct my writing: 2. at 12:29 you can see theres a picture of a dead women so it could be sarah anne conner
Fun Italian fact: we are (possibly) the only dub that had to change "I'll be back" in another phrase: "I'll wait outside" For those who asked: in the others movies we correctly translated it in "I'll be back/I'll return"
@@sebastiancastellanospinpin adaptation: we can't always resort on using the same exact sentence (mostly because the timing of how English people say a word and how the Italians say it are different), so we need to mix up a phrase, but not the context of the dialogue. LET’S GOOOO!! I’ve Said for Years that the First Terminator’s a Sci-Fi Slasher, just with Guns, instead of a Knife. Glad You’re Covering this, James! One of My Absolute Favorite Movies 🤍
I don’t think it’ll happen. You said it yourself, it’s action packed. In my opinion, Silence of the Lambs isn’t really horror, it’s more of a crime drama/thriller.
The beginning of the movie starts out like a slasher movie then it becomes an action movie by the middle and end. I would still classify it as horror-adjacent though would like to see a kill count one day just so we can see James talk about Stallone
The behind the scenes of these early Cameron projects really reinforces the idea of movie magic. The use of miniatures and camera tricks and whatnot is just astounding. I rewound one of the early shots with a power loader in Aliens over and over again because it looks TOO real. Incredible stuff.
The special effects were just as good in Cameron's days of more limited resources as they are in the present day, when he has unlimited resources, uses them to craft elaborate worlds, and doesn't have any mental resources left over for an interesting, engaging story.
My favorite detail from the movie is that Kyle Reese mentions how in his time they used dogs to detect for terminator, intruders and at the end of the movie Sarah is seen with a dog of the same breed that they use in the future!
I'm impressed with all the information about the movie. One interesting fact I found out about was that The Terminator was "inspired" by several works of the late sci-fi author Harlan Ellison, namely the Outer Limits episodes "Soldier" and "Demon With the Glass Hand" . There's a massive controversy about it but if memory serves correctly, it was settled out of court in turn for some pay and acknowledgment in future prints which is why he's mentioned at the credits in later prints of the film. Cameron went to admit that having to give in to the lawsuit instead of fight it was one of his biggest regrets but was forced to do it since he wasn't a big name at the time and Orion Pictures said that if he had fought the suit and lost, the payment that Ellison wanted was going to come out of Cameron's own pocket.
I will say, having seen Soldier before, there are some striking similarities to some scenes. The interrogation scene in the police station especially. While it's pretty clear Cameron borrowed some stuff from those episodes, he changed more than enough and mixed up those elements into a very different thing. Like Demon With The Glass Hand is about a robot from the future fighting in the past but besides that? It seems to have little to do with the Terminator judging by the plot synopsis. I suppose if you smushed those two together and REALLY squinted you MIGHT have an argument but it's pretty damn weak. It reminds me of when people say Tarantino ripped off a Hong Kong movie called City on Fire. Which sounds true if you just read it on paper but if you actually watch City on Fire? The only thing similar to Reservoir Dogs is the last 10 minutes. RD takes the last 10 minutes and blows up the basic concept into a full movie. Besides the broad strokes of those last 10 minutes, the movies aren't really similar at all. I can see why Cameron was sad about not fighting seeing as any reasonable judge would have laughed Ellison out of the room.
There aren't words to explain how impactful this movie was or how much it caused me to get into horror. It started with apocalypse movies that aren't 100% horror and slowly it moved into slashers and campy horror. I absolutely love these movies. Terminator: Dark Fate wasn't great but it gave us more Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, and that's 1000% okay with me
Honestly, the stop motion is pretty good. I've seen some stuff on youtube where they bump up the framerate and it looks pretty convincing once the motion is smoother.
I know the other Terminator films aren't horror films, but just like Mortal Kombat got an exception I am BEGGING for full coverage. I remember being a Terminator fanatic when I was a kid and this was a fantastic dose of nostalgia
"That neighbours kid" showed me this movie when I was 7 in 1991. 25:16 This image in particular. I'll never forget ;). I was to scared to walk home in the dark. 200meters. Hid behind streetlight poles to see if coast was clear...
Also, fun fact about James Cameron, he actually contributed to the theories of how Titanic sank. We know it split in two, but we don’t know how to went down, no pun intended.

Maniac Cop cribbed a lot from this.
He’s running out of ideas at this point.
@@haiz768what's bro talking about?
@@haiz768The Terminator was actually one of the most requested movies to be covered on The Kill Count. Also, it's his show and he can cover whatever he wants.
@@haiz768Running out of ideas? Bro, do you truly grasp just how many horror movies exist? And how many keep being made? James has enough content to last until the universe ends.
The best thing about this movie was how no matter how they were able to knock the terminator down, it kept on coming. it was a terrifying version of Wile E Coyote in a way
Or the fact that Roadrunner isn't as invincible as he used to
The inversion of this is what makes the Terminator such an effective hero in 2; he won't stop until John Connor is safe
Just like Chumbawumba
12:05 The little ’Yeah’ from Pugsley was so cute. 😆🤣

Ikr they’re really cool.
and just oodles of cocaine
This film they had no permits it was all guerilla style.
Back in the golden age of coke
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 as much as I wanna disagree, I totally get it. yeah... no. the Jurassic Park sequels have at least slight horror elements
He still hasn't done Dominion but yeah I agree.
Yea only the second and third in my opinion those two have a lil horror in them especially the T1000 that thing in the final act was creepy ASF
It actually was Saturday in May 12th 1984. Probably that scene was filmed back in 1983.
Thanks for the excellent count guys. My Dad passes away this week, and the last movie we watched together was Terminator.

You did good during the police station bit. You counted 17 kills and T2 confirms that!
It’s like Cameron watched the movie to count the police officers and counted 17 for continuity
Imagine counting the kills in this by hand to just watch the next movie and have it told to you 😅😅
A fun fact I enjoy about that scene: Arnold practiced shooting with rifles and reloading them without looking

"James A Janisse's workout routine."

I love that there’s always a quick explanation of who Dick Miller is and that he’s part of the extended intro.
Somebody probably already said this, but Lance Henriksen was also killed by a Xenomorph (Queen in Aliens), Predator (Scar in AvP), and a Terminator (by the T-800 in this film).
He wasn’t killed in Aliens though, he was ripped in half but being an android he was still working and even saved Newt afterwards.

James!! in 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' somebody says something along the lines of 'that killed 17 police officers that night'! 17!!
And the math holds up, as he did count 17.
You also get to actually reenact the battle that this scene shows off, which makes Evans and Ferro’s inevitable deaths hit much harder once you’ve actually spent some time with them
Yes It's pretty good that it expands on that scene from the 1st film.
I think T2 is still horror enough. The scene where the T-1000 kills John's guardians and he has a blade through his aunts mouth is haunting and fuckd me up as a child

They're technically both correct as T-101 is the outer appearance, whereas the T-800 is the endoskeleton model.
James Cameron was a production designer on Galaxy of Terror(1981) with Robert Englund, the late Sid Haig, among others as well

This isn't "AI" today even though it's being called that. It's basically a souped-up version of predictive text.
Well I did call Ai Skynet last year
Sigh, "ai" is marketing BS.
Hopefully it doesn't become a prediction. 💀

My thoughts exactly. The happy trail had me shook 😳
Classic American copyright.
18:44 James’ mind: “Ahhh crap, here we go again. Another high body count scene.”
Did James actually get naked for "to the numbers" shots? Serious respect.
There aren't words to explain how impactful this movie was or how much it caused me to get into horror. It started with apocalypse movies that aren't 100% horror and slowly it moved into slashers and campy horror. I absolutely love these movies. Terminator: Dark Fate wasn't great but it gave us more Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, and that's 1000% okay with me
26:25 i see James' dead meat

Looks like naked James A. Jannise is embrassing.
Stop motion is dated, but that practical T-800, for the money they had, was damn impressive.
Honestly, the stop motion is pretty good. I've seen some stuff on youtube where they bump up the framerate and it looks pretty convincing once the motion is smoother.
