My favorite youtuber of all time... and Ive been watching youtube a long ass time. Keep up the amazing work emp every video you make has passion! True "youtube" type videos you make and no one does it better. LOVE YOU!
I’ve binged watched his videos about a dozen times. His storytelling is literally unmatched. This one was another masterpiece in storytelling, I love when he makes vids when it’s about someone winning and how they went about it, shit keeps me on edge of my seat
Saw the title and instantly thought “if this is about that moneymaker guy this will be a banger” I remember watching a video about it maybe a year ago.
What a video! The illustrations added a great dimension to this story. One note on poker terminology, at 23:24 you say Moneymaker hits a set on the flop holding AQ. A set is when you have a pair as your hold cards and you make three-of-a-kind with a third matching card on the board. This situation would be referred to as "trips."
This brought back so many happy memories for me. I watched this with my father when I was 14 and it was a wonderful bonding moment for us as we both cheered on Moneymaker. This new insight about his story is awesome. I only wish my dad was around to see it too. I'll just have to watch it twice for him. Thank you for your excellent work.
I rarely comment on youtube, but this made my heart feel warm. Awesome to hear you reminiscing. Wishing you and your father well until you'll meet again! ❤
Well, 3 years later in 2006 when Jamie Gold (these last names are just insane) won is something that comes to my mind. Gold was a poker amateur although he had a lot more experience than Moneymaker. He took the chip lead on day one and never lost the lead all the way to the last hand. This event had literally 10 times (almost 9,000) the number of people as the 2003 Main Event and a 12 million dollar first place prize!
@@DragulaAD Gold wasn't the same. He didn't change or revolutionize anything, nor did he really show any lasting appeal or genuine moxie in his game while making his run. He just... won.

I hope that at least one day I could make engaging video essays for people to enjoy. I've seen you crash out since the ending of frying Nemo and ironically enough, your talent has brought you spiralling upwards instead of down.
What a compelling story, and a great video overall, EmpLemon! I honestly thought it was gonna end badly for Moneymaker, but it's refreshing and satisfying to see him not only pull it off, but make a career out of playing Poker! I don't understand a lick of the mechanics of Poker, but you did a great job of conveying how a hand or play is in context of the game! Those illustrations are also pretty nice and scrappy, they did a good job at giving us the visual info we need!
52! is such a large number that you could stand at the equator and take a single step every billion years. Do that until you walk around the earth and then take a single drop out of the Pacific Ocean. Then repeat the process until the entire Pacific Ocean is completely drained and then place a single sheet of paper on the ground. Refill the ocean and repeat the process again until the stack of paper reaches the sun. After the paper reaches the sun do the entire process 3,000 times. When you've done all that 52! seconds will have passed.
@@dutchlane2681This specific example (one of my favorites) was most likely pulled from Vsauce's video "Combinations of 52 cards (52 factorial)", and the original example comes from an older website that catalogues various silly ways to visualize 52 factorial. My favorite youtuber of all time... and Ive been watching youtube a long ass time. Keep up the amazing work emp every video you make has passion! True "youtube" type videos you make and no one does it better. LOVE YOU!
Dawg, I was literally binge watching your videos because I had nothing better to watch today.
Hey! You show respect on Mr lemon and his works :[
Me everyday
You have nothing better to watch because there isn’t anything better
I’ve binged watched his videos about a dozen times. His storytelling is literally unmatched. This one was another masterpiece in storytelling, I love when he makes vids when it’s about someone winning and how they went about it, shit keeps me on edge of my seat
@@mattyicee is dolphins nfl and this story
Yo these illustrations are 👌
Also these names are fucking crazy: Moneymaker, Gamble, Worth... Lmao
This video was a case study in nominative determinism.
If only there was a guy with first name “cash”
Some real nominative determinism right there, lol

I love this channel because the videos are always about absolutely crazy things I've never even heard about
Saw the title and instantly thought “if this is about that moneymaker guy this will be a banger” I remember watching a video about it maybe a year ago.
You know you’re in for a treat when you click on that video before even registering what it’s about, only that Emp made it and that it is new.
I crave a new video every day. But I'm just thankful for one a quarter.
The illustrations added so much to this video. I really hope they become a permanent stable for future projects!
This channel is what RUclips was made for. Essay after essay, things I wouldn’t even think twice about seem so interesting. Thanks dude
Amazing video emp.
As a huge poker fan I already knew this story from start to finish but EmpLemon still gives me chills. What an incredible content creator.
I didn't know the whole story, but I knew for sure that he'd win it with a five and a four.
When Emp drops vids like this it always feels like an event or something
There will never ever be another poker run like Chris Moneymaker's
thats cause im not on the scene yet
He just... won.
I like the illustrations.
Good format for your storytelling style.
Keep it up Emp!
You tell a story so well! Love the illustrations, great work!
LOVE the illustrations by top drawer theyre beautiful and add so much character!! its nice to see so much passion put into a video its not seen on youtube much anymore
Can't believe EmpLemon gambled all of his life savings away
Man, you're just too good a storyteller. I know nothing about poker, nascar or wrestling. But it's Emplemon. So i click. And I love every minute. Bravo.

15 minutes in... i never realised a simple story illustrated like this, about poker, would have my attention and a bit of tension. this is great. i knew i subbed for a reason.
This has been my favorite RUclips video I’ve seen in years. I’ve rewatched it 4 times now. The writing, the pictures, characters and most importantly the story is just so great!
Can't wait to become obsessed with another topic I previously knew nothing about
Last video I watch before Navy Bootcamp.
Stupid life decisions. Your country doesn’t care that you’re going to fight and die for some imperialist cause.

What an amazing video, the illustrations were awesome and really added to the effect and narration of the story. Chris’s journey through this tournament reads like a dream, great video
New emplemon video here we go! My family loves your videos man! We all watch them together! Can’t wait to see more!
I've said it before, but man, you have a God-given gift for storytelling. It doesn't matter what the title or subject matter is for an emplemon video, I'm always watching, and on the edge of my seat. Never change.
Emperor Lemon, I've followed you since 2018-19, and I fucking love your writing. If I had a tenth the ability to write as beautifully as you, I would be a happy man. I'm a couple of years older but I look up to you and you're an inspiration in the midst of what this world and RUclips has become.

Those illustrations are also pretty nice and scrappy, they did a good job at giving us the visual info we need!
this is my fave emp video ive seen in over a year probably. great job. felt very classic emp like when I found you through spongebob and hbox
52! is such a large number that you could stand at the equator and take a single step every billion years.
🤯
@@HP-fn4bo my thoughts exactly!
who did the math on this?
@@dutchlane2681 I got it from Vsauce.
@@dutchlane2681This specific example (one of my favorites) was most likely pulled from Vsauce's video "Combinations of 52 cards (52 factorial)", and the original example comes from an older website that catalogues various silly ways to visualize 52 factorial. Recommend watching that video as it's only 4 minutes long and filled with other mind boggling comparisons.
Edit: The original video is actually titled "Math Magic" by Vsauce and the timestamp for these examples is 15:54ish
Dude ur new artist did a killer job with this one! Big fan!
keep doing these kind of videos. your quality only improves with each video. every video ive been watching the last year was like: "yeah this is emplemons masterpiece video" but no, you keep on proving me wrong
Top Drawer's art for this video was fantastic, it perfectly suited the story and tone. And thanks again to EmpLemon for makingba subject I have no interest in so fascinating!

Thankyou for making these videos, they all bring me so much joy.
by far one of, if not THE best youtube channel blessing us 😫
Perfect length, perfect editing & narration, perfect story... this video feels like what people will point to 100 years from now when they talk about the rise of video essays on youtube
I always look to your channel for a video in a time of need, even when its not recommended to me. And I every so often find another banger video.
Emplemon you have to be my favorite creator on the platform, because I may not know a single thing about the topics you share, but you manage to guide me through them and keep me insanely hyped!!!
We studied this case in my honors seminar course. Really interesting stuff and this video does a wonderful job explaining it. Great job as always EmpLemon
This is by far the best channel on RUclips. Ever video you make is about a topic I find so interesting
I really like how you directly explained the different luck factors involved. Top quality video again.
This video was ridiculously well made. I love the scratchy artstyle so much. The amount of work put into it really shows
Fantastic video as always, it always shows how much care you put into each one of these. The illustrations were very captivating and added a really nice touch.
31:27 funny how marriage seems to have been the biggest gamble of all. Sickening.
LOVE the illustrations here! This story is one of my new favorites on your channel - sending love from nashville, TN!
Can't be amazed enough with the way you tell and show a story. Great work!
The fact that my algorithm started recommending your videos back to me like it knew a new one was being cooked right up for us is comical.
