Nice review. I run 2.25 Aspen rear and 2.4 Aspen front and I love the combo. Super grippy up front and fast rolling on the rear. With my s-works Epic it comes in at 22.08lbs. Works great here in Colorado where we have a lot of loose over hard pack kitty litter.

Wider tires roll better though, especially if you ride over anything not perfectly even lol

I'm currently running 2.25's aspens on my hardtail and the 2.4 rekon race's on full sus. & I agree, the side knobs feel much more consistent in corners on the 2.4 RR, and that confidence up front can go a long way. I think my ideal setup would be aspen rear and 2.4 rekon race front for normal/dry xc conditions.

Agree! Throwing on my RR on front and leaving Aspen on rear.

My go to tires!! Aspen’s 2.4” on my hardtail and 2.25 on my Orbea oiz they shed mud very well. I don’t notice a difference in traction between the two bikes.

How about the 2.25 / 2.4 air pressure you did?

Addict: have you had the opportunity to try the Aspen 170 TPI? I got my hands on a 2.25 that was very slightly used and it is the first tire that I would actually call "amazing". More supple ride, grips better, corners better, ramps up speed faster than anything I've ever tried. Able to run one cog higher throughout my entire ride. Easy to see why so many pros use the 170 version. Also recently picked up a pair of Sidi Drako 2 SRS shoes and they are PHENOMENAL

Hey, no I have not. Limited to race teams unfortunately. I have really been enjoying Pirelli scorpion xc rc. Feel it’s a better tire in every way! Glad to hear you are getting along with Sidi. Only shoe I run!

@@addictcyclist I presume you saw that Maxxis has made the Aspen 170 TPI available to the public. I'm anxious to hear your impressions as I assume that you will be testing them out!! Still the most amazing tire I have ever ridden

Did you happen to measure the width? I am running the same internal width rim with old tread pattern Racing Ralphs in a 2.35 that measure 62mm.

Oh and I’ve got a couple brand new Rekon Race 2.4 wt
i doubt I’ll ever mount up. I’m just preferring the Aspen’s when the trail is yellow they don’t load up.
    Maybe I’ll change my mind.

Going to throw a RR on front and leave Aspen out back and see how it goes. The few rides on the RR the side grip is noticeably better than aspens.

I have a hardtail bike and I want it to be as fast as possible on dry terrain and on the road. I'm currently running 2.20 tires and I'm afraid that increasing the width will result in a significant impact on rolling resistance. Would the Maxxis Aspen 2.25 be a good option? Kind regards

    • @addictcyclist

I recommend the Pirelli scorpion xc rc. It’s my new tire choice. More grip, faster rolling, less weight than Aspen.

I just got Spark 920 with 2.40" tyres, coming from scale 930 2.30" the rolling resistance on tarmac is massive. Will worn out the 2.40 and will swap for 2.25 or 2.30

Any advantage in rolling resistance of going RR front and rear vs RR front aspen rear?

    • @addictcyclist
      @addictcyclist  Год назад

RR in rear is slightly noticeable in slower rolling. RR on front is better. I just ordered a set of Pirelli Xc Rc and will review. Seem to be the better lighter alternative to RR and Aspen.

@addictcyclist The Pirelli "2.4" tires run small though. More like a 2.35". The Aspen is a true 2.4" and the Rekon Race runs bigger than stated at around 2.45".
