With all these hose-on-top masks hitting the market, a classic "elephant style" nasal mask is almost retro, fills me with nostalgia xD

The mask is difficult to remove and I had to ask my husband to change it for me. He also had a hard time, every time. He figured out that if you insert a small popsicle stick into the area where the clips are, it pops off very easily with no squeezing and no twisting required. Last night, I also was able to change my mask with this technique. Hope this helps!

Tip for making it a little easier to take off the cushion. Turn the mask upside down, then from the front (where hose comes out) simply put your index finger into the groove in between the mask and the cushion. If you do it like this, it should come out easily with one finger. If its not coming off you may be coming at it from the wrong angle. Completely reverse the angle your coming in from and that may do the trick. Once you learn the technique of putting your finger in from the correct angle (front side of mask) it is very easy to remove the cushion.

I totally agree that we tend to blame our masks rather than other stuff. I was moaning about the dreamwear utn mask suffocating me, turns out my pressure was too low. Upped the pressure and fits perfectly.

Good info about the N20 mask. I didn’t know about the Air Cushion. After using the mask miserably for about 3 years, I accidentally found this amazingly soft mask. The silicone mask has left several permanent scars on my face. The silicone seemed very hard and “sticky” against my old, dried out, sensitive skin. My doctor insisted that the scars were temporary, and I was not adjusting the mask properly. I tried cloth cushions underneath the mask, too. All I got was more scars and continued leaking.
The memory foam gave a better fit without the pain. The seal is good every night. It’s easy to clean, too.
Thanks for the practical information about CPAP and saving lives. This stuff is serious. I’m glad you’re not 😀

Thanks for this episode Jason..I’ve been using the N20 Airfit for two years..I discovered it during my most recent sleep study, where my pressure was changed from 18 to 10. I can’t use the memory foam...doesn’t work for me...my fleshy face doesn’t make an airtight seal with full face or nasal masks. The N20 Airfit has been the most comfortable so far. I’ve been using your mask cleaner for about a year as well. Great product..but crappy sprayer! Thanks for all you do for us.

I bought this mask in large part because of this review, and I'm so happy I did. I used a Resmed Mirage Activa for years, but of course that's a discontinued product and the cushions are no longer available so I had to choose something else. Foolishly, the first new mask I tried was the Sleepnet IQ Blue, which was a complete disaster. I've only used the AirTouch N20 two nights so far, but it's been absolutely perfect.

Been using this for 6 months with chin strap - works well with AHI's from 0.8 to 5, though there are occasional mouth leaks (not fault of the mask). tried respronics and resmed full face masks but they raised AHI and caused far more obstructive apneas .

    • @mariojacob3761
      @mariojacob3761 4 года назад +1

I have also been using it for 8 months with a chin bar and my AHI is between 1 and 2 for a pressure of 12. I bought the F20 Airfit and Airtouch from Resmed (facial) and the Dreamwear from Respironics (facial) but I have purchased had too much leakage and my AHI was skyrocketing. I also tried to replace the N20 silicone cushion with an N20 Airtouch, but I don't like it, for the same size (medium) it's too tight and I can't breathe well! This N20 Airfit model is my favorite even if it's not perfect.

Thanks Jason; another excellent video. I just switched from the Resmed N30i to the AirFit N20, and while I had a better nights sleep with less leaks a more breathability, I did have some little leaks under my nose. I'm a side sleeper with a very firm pillow, so any upward pressure on the mask caused the seal to break. Looks like I'll be ordering the memory foam cushion to try to improve on it before I start swapping out pillows.

I have loved a lot of your videos, Jason! I am relatively new to CPAP. I am looking at trying a full face mask. Used the N30i and didn’t like it for comfort, how it felt having air shot directly into my nostrils, or the seal. I got a ton of painful irritation around my nose and above my upper lip. I also didn’t like the two air holes needing to be lined up perfectly. I am currently using the N20 with AirTouch and AirFit cushions, I like it but I have chronic nasal congestion that can be hard to cut through, and mouth leak that requires me to use a Somnifix strip. I have found my drooling can make the strip fall off, or I’ve woken up and realized I took it off in the night. I don’t really want to try anything else like a mouthguard, collar, or chin strap. I have really liked the comfort of the memory foam, and the N20 silicone isn’t anywhere near as bad as my N30i experience. I am primarily a side and back sleeper, and move around a lot. I have stubble on occasion when I’m off work. I’ve narrowed down to the ResMed F20 AirTouch and AirFit, and the F&P Vitera. Would you recommend I try the F20 AirTouch and have the AirFit cushion as an option to try too if I want to see if silicone is still comfortable, secure and a more economical option than foam? What about the Vitera? I’ve heard that’s also very comfortable, and is super secure for active sleepers. Thank you for all of your helpful videos. Thanks for your time!

    • @Freecpapadvice

Should I loosen it, or try another mask, I had been using the two strap.
Underneath my nares until the top air portal was just too loud.

Have been using the Airfit N20 (no memory foam) for years now with almost no leaking with mouth taping. Recently ordered the Airtouch N20 with memory foam. No big change in my view. May have to tighten the memory foam mask a little more. Still kind of early to tell for sure but my first night developed leaks of 10% with the mask just barely snug. Really annoyed Resmed didn’t fix the lawn sprinkler venting on this noisy mask. I use a fabric bandaid wrapped loosely around the venting holes which helps to keep it from hosing down my pillow and my wife. The only difference on this mask is the cushions so all you need to try it is an Airtouch cushion. Overall I am happy but I’m still looking for something to slip on this hose connection to make this mask better. Maybe I can find someone to knit me a cpap nose mitten.

I have been using the ResMed Mirage Activa mask for years. The nasal cushion presses against my under-nose area causing corresponding irritation inside my mouth. I think this is a problem with the design/firmness of material of the cushion. I started out CPAP use with softer gel-type cushions that would seal with less tightness of the lower straps, low leakage and no irritation.
Are there any nasal cushion designs that have softer material and don't need straps to be as tight?

I’ve tried taping (have beard and mustache) or chin strap and have only hit 100 once or twice. I am a large - not huge person and have a size large mask, and when I used the supplied measuring device, large, by its scale was way too big. I switched to a medium. Hi there! Newbie here and started to watch your videos. I need to ask a question. I was sent home with a RedMed 10. The mask my doctor ordered was a full face mask because I know I tend to sleep with my mouth opened. The company gave me a F&P Vitera. So it fit great the issue is that I wear glasses. And I tend to fall asleep watching tv. And I usually take them off in the middle of the night.
I can't do that with the Vitera. It has that plastic post straight up my nose to my forehead. I called and the company sent me the ResMed F30 (medium).
    WTF! I'm not a pig!
I was unable to get a proper seal. So that went into the garbage right away (not really but I did toss them to the other side of the room).
So can you recommend a full face mask that allows for a person with glasses that can be put on and taken off.
Also I saw your video on Central apnea. And I think I have this kind. Reason to come to this conclusion. Is that I woke up one night and I realized I wasn't taking a breath. My mouth and throat were open and clear. Its just that I wasn't telling my brain to breath. Of course at some point I insisted to my brain to take a breath. I found it interesting. I haven't told my doctor just yet.
I did the home test. And if I have it correct the home test can't really pick up on this type of apnea.
    My score was 29.
And when they told me and the other guy as we got our machines that in order to keep them they report to big brother and if we don't use them they are taken away.
So I stated great a dog leash!
The other guy ran out of the room. Damm I was just joking about it. But its sort of true. Its a dog leash.
    Anyway thanks for any advice.
    Rob

I notice with this mask my air reports my leaks as 30 L or higher and I use a chinstrap. Is it because of the diffuser? I’ve been trying to figure why it reports my leaks so high, I’ve used a chinstrap and tried to tighten it more and everything. My DME told me the high leak numbers are fine as long as my ahi is low.

I can not stand memory foam on my face. I am having a lot of problems finding a mask that works long term. I am about ready to just quit.

Remember...it might not be the mask. Check your data in OSCAR and see if there aren't other problems going on.

I have watched half a dozen videos trying to observe assemblage of the ENTIRE setup. All I can find is people talking about the mask on your face. There IS more to this device than that and yet EVERYBODY disregards everything else.

The "clear" way to handle this is to hit like immediately. Then if a couple days later you think back and have the thought, "You know....I don't really think that I REALLY liked that." At that point you go back to the video and remove the like. Seems like a better workflow for RUclips like management. 😉

@@Freecpapadvice it's me and no reason to get awkward. It is my favourite photograph of me dog showing when I could still walk. I have brain damage. It is quite possible I didn't send it. I know I wrote it. Still doesn't matter. I guessed you had not dleted it. I have seen enough of your videos to fancy I know you well enough to know you are not a so and so.
I think it was about my persitant journ ey this last almost 2 years with SA therapy, eye infections, hose bridge infections, severe mouth pain with a holw devloped in my lip but I still used every night. I then found the F30 qwhich is wonderful but cab't use it right now as am in. process of having all teeth out and F30 doesn't like that. I was supplied with the Resmed 10, pillows that goi into nostrils, and knew I'd not likme it. I wore it one night. Sore nostrils nand high AHI. Last night I wore the Respironics nasal do dahs, with my gob taped shut. Woinderful. Long sleep until pain woke me but I had had almost 7 hours so enough. My reading was 1.5(OSCAR) but my leak was too high so I will have to use a stronger tape to hold the medical gentle sticking fabric down more firmly. It is very weird having all that air shooting out of your mouth. Also quite a shock to realise it wasthat srong a wind. When I wear the F30 or this new one, I don't ear antyhing and certainly do not feel the hurricane in my nostrils/gob/lungs! ;-)

Trial and error is what we essentially do in the sleep lab. There are methods to speed this up by using OSCAR. I have videos on how to use it. Free download at sleepfiles.com/OSCAR.

hi entertaining :). serious question now- are there any other masks that can be swapped into the n20? the silicon is just not comfortable. I saw online some people saying the foam cushion switch you describe can actually make it harder to get enough air, they feel it is sort of 'smaller'. I use large nasal piece, I think an xl would be better. I use a chin strap, and had my pressure ramped up to 13 and get a 1/20 seal. Worst ever. hence - any other masks can be swapped in? thanks
