Tried the F40 for the first time last night and it was great. I have been using the F20 and was on the verge of giving up on a full mask. However, fearing my mouth dropping I was going to switch to the F30i. The office I go to was out of stock and asked me if I wanted to try the F40. I am so glad they had no stock of the F30i. The F40 was so much better on my face than the F20. I can roll over on my side and have no issues. My mask seal was at an all time low of 1.2 last night With the F20 I was seeing anything from 15-25 on average, and sometimes even higher. From a sizing standpoint I was sized with a standard headgear and a large mask. I was measured to fit into a Medium mask; however when I tried on both the medium and large I found the large was more comfortable because it gave me a little more room on each side of my mouth, as well as underneath my bottom lip. Like I said above, I think this mask is great and a huge improvement from the F20. All of my scores were good and I slept with it for 7.11 hours. My events per hour was 1.2, which is good on its own, but I thought it would have been higher trying a new mask for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised and happy with the results.
First week or two I felt a little pain right between my nostrils. However I believe it was too tight. I loosened the straps a little and I’ve been fine ever since. Still the most comfortable mask for me.
Quick tip. If you wake up at night and need to drink or swish some water because your mouth is dry, use a small cup with a flexible straw that can bend up to 90 degrees. No need to take the mask off. Just detach the hose and slip the straw into the opening and then your mouth. You can either drink some water or swish it and spit it back into the cup. Makes it very convenient.
I just receive my ResMed F40 a couple days ago i was using the nasal pillows was having irritation so far the F40 fits great i am a side sleeper had a little leakage adjust the straps had no more problems i am getting a good air flow what i like once you adjust the straps you do not have to keep adjusting them i am sleeping better when i wake up i feel refresh i have experience a lot of mask think the F40 is the one for me
The UPSIDE of the F30 & F40 is no dribbling or leaking and in fact your a perfect candidate for this design IMO as I owner of the F30 I can attest to no need for extra and more expensive air moisture gadgets! I awake with a dry pillow and ZERO jaw discomfort with either. Not so with the nose pillow designs!
Thank you, I have just bought an F40 and had been adjusting my settings, I was debating on how to set the mask setting but having watched this video I can set them appropriately.
I'm in my first month of using my APAP machine with this particular mask. My problem is when i switch to my side, i get leaks and have to adjust it. But i tried the F20 that my husband has and i hated it. I didn't like it between in my eyes. I love the F40 head gear... it's more comfortable than the F20 for me. I will keep trying to make this work for me because i do think it's the best one for me. Thank you for this video...i found it very helpful!
F40 is my favorite. I have a medium headset but a Large cushion. I have congestion so the large gives me more air. The AirFit N30i would not keep a seal. The angle of my nose to the cushion would not line up. I then tried the AirFit N20 (which I had to pay out of pocket for) was much better but still had a lot of leakage, which wakes me up during the night. The package that the F40 comes in says 'device setting - pillows.'
I did print out the gauge and adjusted my magnification to fit what they said the template should be and did a prefitting at home. When I went to med supplier they measured the same, so then we ordered it. Just picked it up today so tonight will be the first.
Thank you for the explanation, I will receive the F40 in December. Which setting do I change, as it is not a full face mask.Where do I attach the oxygen? I have been taught to turn the ResMed on first, then attach the oxygen.
On the Air11 you change mask setting to pillow for the F40. Link below will go over the oxygen attachment. Your order of operation is correct. cpapmyway.com/blog/connect-oxygen-to-your-cpap
I've been struggling for years to find the right mask for my Resmed. I'm now using the F40 and it is better than all the others I've tried. First of all I get air blowing into my eye which I've tried everything to stop it and nothing works. My mouth drops open while I'm asleep and the bottom of the mask slips into my mouth. I now try a chin strap but between strapping that thing on and the F40, it feels like my head is going to crush. I'm about to give up on the CPAP therapy altogether and take my chances. It is very frustrating that this issue can not be resolved.
Watch the complete video and I have a question about the sizing. You show the sizing guide to be in the package. When you order one does the headgear have one sizing and the mask itself have another sizing? So my question would be how can you know what size to order if the sizing guide comes within the packaging?
Can you done a rundown of all the cpap settings you're currently using? Whats the ideal temp, humidity, pressure settings, ramp settings, etc. Im just curious. Thanks for the video. Very informative!
I believe temp and humidity are personal preferences. Change them to what feels comfortable. Living in a dry climate and having dry mouth, I wanted more humidity. My temp is set at 80 and humidity at 6 which uses all the water in the reservoir of my ResMed Airsense 11 after 7.5 hrs. If I set the temp or humidity higher, the water runs out sooner. For me, the pressure settings are prescribed by my physician. The history report from your machine will show your doc how much pressure you use when sleeping and if it needs to be increased or decreased. Ramp setting may also be personal preference. My machine was set for auto-ramp which was about 30 minutes. I changed it to 40 mins because it was hard to fall asleep at first. That turned out to be too long, so I set it back to auto-ramp. FYI.
I use the F20 because I hate things touching my nose, but I got the F40 yesterday and I was super hopeful, but it was like I either had to have it too loose and leak or too tight and feel like my nose was pinched. I can't breath out of my nose very much but I have been training to nose breath more. Usually that goes well until very early AM hours. I'm at a loss. I also feel like the F20 was blowing air into my eyes while I sleep.
I currently am using an Airfit N30i mask and have to tape my mouth shut each night to avoid leaks. Will the F40 "full face" mask stop the need for tapping my mouth? How easily does your lower jaw drop down with the F40?
Really wanted to like this but coming from an airtouch F20, this mask irritated the area between nostrils, leaked like crazy from the nasal pillows when you yawn, twitch your nose or lay on your side. As said, I REALLY, wanted to make this switch but now have a $170 mask system that is crap. Back to the F20 and sleeping like a baby.
@@jennytaylor6920 it was for me. I'm a mouth and nose breather depending on allergies so I need a full face option. Was hoping the F40 would be the new, smaller, lighter, more flexible way to go but OMG the leaks.
I have a F&P Evora that is just like the F40. I have a large head and face. The mask mouth piece is not wide enough for me it leaks at the mouth sides when I relax my mouth. I ordered a F40 a month ago when I started but I couldn’t get the mask for three weeks and it was back ordered for another three months.
Hello from Finland I am new to using Resmed 11 wit the F40 mask. On my 3. night. My mask setting says nostral, full face and nose. Wich one is the right setting. There is no pillow setting in Finnish so I was wondering that the pillow might be nostral or the nose settin but wich one? Thank you for this tip. I automaticly put it on full face option.
Hey! Question, just started using the F40 what should my mask setting be? Full Face, Nasal or Pillows? I switched it to Full Face and noticed there was a lot of air leaking - please help.
I wish when they made this mask that they kept the hose on top instead of the front like the F30i which is what I’m using right now the hose connects to the top maybe they’ll make an F40i

I was using a full face Siesta mask that comes up over the bridge of your nose. I had a red, sore spot on my nose and terrible dry mouth in the morning. Using Biotene gel at bedtime helped with dry mouth but didn't completely fix it. I used the F40 first time last night and did NOT wake up with dry mouth at all. I did use the Biotene gel last night, but don't think I will need it in the future. The Siesta over-the-nose mask didn't completely seal for me unless I opened my mouth at least a little. With the F40, I can close my mouth if it opens, and still get a complete seal. The F40 covers your nostrils and completely covers your mouth. It is working well for me.
I like the feel of this mask, but in spite of gradually increasing the pressure , I am having 10 or more events. The App says I have a good seal and leaks are 11 liters per minute
I figured out that if I kind of overlap another pillow on top of the bottom pillow and then sleep kind of in the edge of the top one, I don't get leaks. I hope this helps. I'm now at a point where once I fall asleep, I don't move so it works great for me.
Where did you get the sizing chart? I had to print mine fron the internet. When I did print it, the chart that showed an inch measurement printed out different than a ture inch measurement I don't remember if it was longer or shorter than an inch. I then kept zooming in or out to make it finally measure an inch. Then I was finally able to measure my nose on the chart. When I got my mask, I don't think I got the right size mask. Any thoughts?
The size gauge that I show in the video came with the mask. If you still have the packaging from your mask it should be in there. What size did you get, and where is your leak or issue on the fit?
Pretty neat. I use a ResMed pillow, but it is kinda noisy according to my wife. Don't think I heard you mention this, but I guess this new mask can't be used by people who have facial hair (mustache and goatee)?
Used this last night for the first time, my AHI score doubled for the night and i would wake every couple hours, like I did before cpap. Eventually I swapped back to my F20 for the last few hours, and now I feel like a zombie today. I'll try it again, but I was incredible disappointed by it.
At least you are sleeping...lol.. I feel like the whole cpap experience has been useless to me. Sure.. I'm not snoring I suppose.. and my AHI scores are low (if you believe the machine numbers) but sleep.... still waking up 3 times a night and not feeling any more awake during the day!
@pesto12601 it's just not a good mask and it's expensive to try all of the sizes if you think you ended up with the wrong size .... they all leak in the same exact spot
Great review. I'm a long-time F-20 full-face user, and a mouth breather, with a mustache. You've indicated in answering a previous question that the F-40 is perfect for mouth breathers. How does it do with a mustache? Thanks!
That differs from person to person. Depending on how amazing your mustache is. HAHA! We have had plenty of customers with mustaches do just fine with a mask like this.
This is a terrible mask even without facial hair lol the seal on each side of the nostrils is bad I have all 3 sizes and they all leak in the same spot I dunno how someone can sleep with air blowing into their eyes It is ok on low pressures but the moment they get over 8 you leak if you move at all

Pillows on the AirSense CPAP. Which I know sounds weird.
Do you actually feel the pressure I your nose with this mask?
Yes
If you’re a mouth breather will this work?
Yes the F40 is good for mouth breathers.
How about for side sleepers ?
It should be a great option for side sleepers.
Are you not supposed to feel air coming from the exhalation?
It is very diffused so you may not feel much.
I wish when they made this mask that they kept the hose on top instead of the front like the F30i which is what I’m using right now the hose connects to the top maybe they’ll make an F40i
I would not be surprised.
Does this help with dry mouth? I cannot tolerate a chin strap…shoves my jaw into a painful position. Mouth tape helps, but that isn’t ideal.
Worth a try for sure.
