Useful, thanks. I've been using a nasal pillow mask for 22 years, which was originally prescribed for me. The first model was a "Breeze", which had a hard plastic and metal band across the top. I learned to carry a roll of electrical tape when I traveled to do field repairs! Replaced in 2010 with a Resmed Swift FX. I didn't know until recently that I could purchase the headset of my choice.I thought I was just stuck with whatever they gave me. I still use the Swift FX for travel, since it is so compact, but have switched at home. I bought a Resmed N30i and had trouble keeping the holes lined up with my nostrils as I tossed and turned. Changed the nosepiece for nasal pillows, turning it into a P30i and I love it.

Ever since you first reviewed the ResMed Swift FX Nano I’ve been a fan. It was so much smaller than the original ResMed nasal mask I had. The cushion is very gentle on your face and less tension is best. The air flow of the machine pushes the seal against your face for you. Even though I’m the worst at actually getting my mask on each night this is hands down my favourite mask.

I currently use the ResMed AirFit N20 nasal mask. I like how easy it is to put on. I also like the swiveling of the hose connector and it makes for a close to worry-free night when it comes to snagging or hose getting caught. The one thing I do not care for as much is the strap that sits at the back of the head. I find that it doesn't allow for up and down neck movement and it feels like it keeps your neck in the same position all night. If I want to move my head up, it feels like it tightens pulls against the nose. If I want to give myself some room to move my neck up and down, then I have to loosen the straps, but then it leaves room for leaks with neck movement.
I also have tried the Philips Respironics Dreamwear Nasal mask. What I like about this one is that the headgear is by far, more comfortable than the ResMed AirFit N20. It almost feels like I don't even have anything on my head. The air port at the top of the head is super comfortable and it makes me feel even more comfortable if I need to move around in the middle of the night. The one thing I cannot get over, and therefore, I keep using my AirFit N20 is that it feels like the air supply is not enough. It may be that the cushion size may not be right, but using the fitting gauge, I am using the correct size. I just found out that a Medium Wide size is also made. Some of the reviews mentioned the same sensation of not getting enough air, as if the opening under nose was not large enough and left you feeling starving for air. Once I try this, I may change to the Dreamwear mask!

I've been using nasal masks for 2 years now. Loved Dreamwear but I'm a heavy side sleeper and tended to get a lot of leaks unless I really cranked it up tight. Agree n30i stinks. Tried dreamwisp, comfortable but lots of leaks from side sleeping. I'm now using airfit n20 and loving it. Took a while to get right cushion as I'm on border of small and med. settled on med. I tried the Airtouch cushion, and while it does not leak, even with my mustache it tended to block and restrict my nose underneath no matter how I adjusted mask and headgear..

I respectfully disagree on the N30i- that is my “go-to” mask. I love how I can pop in nasal pillows on the same frame which helps me with congestion at times. You're missing something significant. I breathe through my nose during the day and I think I did normally at night. With a nasal mask on, though, at the setting I'm at, which is the maximum my Resmed Airsens 11 can go to, the pressure forces my mouth open the moment my body and face fully relax. And logically, after a lot of experimenting with around fifteen masks back and forth, I don't think it could be otherwise. At the low settings no problem. But when it gets to the highest, which it does every single time within an hour or so, all it takes is the slightest relaxation of the back of my tongue, which is inevitable, and that air comes out of my mouth like a cyclone. I could blow candles out quite a distance when that starts.
I've tried eight different snoring masks, they're nonsense. The anchor point is the back of the head, that isn't the line that resists the jaw opening. And it doesn't require my jaw to open at all for the cyclone to come out. Just a slight relaxation of the point where air can stream out of my mouth instead of going down into my lungs. Why would the air go down into my lungs if it can take the shorter route out of my mouth?
I can't find a mask that makes a seal at higher pressures without requiring such a level of tightness that it is completely intolerable. I mean REALLY tight. A few nights ago the pressure was so high that it forced my lower lip out of my mask! I woke up with my lower lip swollen and distorted from the mask pushing on the point where he was half in and half out.
I have been trying to get a custom made mask but I've only found a company in Australia and they aren't answering me. No one in the US is currently making them that I can find. This isn't working out the way I had hoped it would.

Used a nasal prong one first that irritated my nose hairs and would periodically get sores in my nose. Then tried the phillips dreamwear, I love the top for the tube unfortunately I would always wake up to a jet engine in my ear and could never get back to sleep with it. I now Love my n30, It doesnt irritate my nose. The only thing I don't like about it is the side adjuster as I sleep on my side if I don't position my head just right it will dig into my skull. The most important thing is to keep searching if you can't stay on treatment as I think the right mask will be the difference.

Dreamwear ‘under the nose’ is the only one that ever worked for me. It was my first choice 5 years ago. Love at first sight. Still perfect lol. I cheated on it a few times over the years. Hated the p10 - it hurt the inside of my nose like a b’tch. I would wake up in the middle of the night with stabbing pain on the inside of my nose. Tried it exactly 2 times. Never again. Full face was too claustrophobic. I got the fischer pikel one that supposedly won awards for ease of use or something. God, it was impossible to get on and off. That clip was a pain to undo. Dreamwear is light and airy. Perfect. Although I don’t like the plastic thing that they changed in later versions. I still have my old, tattered strap from the old mask from 4 years ago. I transfer the same strap to every new Dreamwear. Now I am ready to try the new N30i. Let’s see how I like it. One thing is for sure - Headhose is the way to go. 😀

The one with the top-of-the-head hose attachment looked like you had an antenna and it moved when your head moved! 😂
I've been using BiPAP therapy for ~3½ years and have used the Resmed "For Her" N20, size small, the entire time. The unisex version cannot be tightened enough (the velcro would be past the straps and into my hair- a bit like a kid trying on mom's/dad's shoes! 😂). But I need something more substantial than the headgear with the single behind-the-head strap or the one with the adhesive components because my pressure settings are so high (23 and 13). I was hoping to find a review for the full face mask that literally covers the face from the top of forehead to the chin and like a plastic shield. My dad was diagnosed a few months ago and is struggling to find a mask more comfortably accommodate his facial hair!

I have been on CPAP for about 4 months and went through all sorts of mask configs (N20, F20, Dreamwear Full face, Dreamwear cushion), etc. I am a mouth breather and thanks to this channel, I decided to try to solve that issue because I was very happy with the Dreamwear nasal cushion mask. I tried the boil and bite mouth guard, chin strap, mouth taping, and finally the soft cervical collar. The taping worked, but my slobber factory tended to loosen the tape on the lower lip and eventually I would start to leak air in an annoying fashion. The cervical collar works wonders. I couldn't imagine how well it could work, but it really does. So.....with a cervial collar and a dreamwear nasal, I was consistently averaging about an AHI of 1.5 to 1.7 at 9cm/h20. When Resmed released the Airtouch N20 cusion, I wanted to try it again so I ordered one since I already also had the airfit N20. I have used it for the last 3 nights with no other changes (N20, collar, 9.0cm/h20) and my AHI has consistently been 0.4 to 0.5. I am not sure why changing to the N20 dropped by AHI by a whole point by itself....but it clearly did. The memory foam N20 definitely seals a lot more consistently for me and I can leave it a lot looser than the silicone N20 version. I only wish it had the top of head hose connection, but using a hose hanger under the mattress helps keep the front hose out of the way.

One side collapsing is a non-issue at those pressures as It is designed so that one side open is enough to supply the proper air pressure. I find it to work much better for side sleeping than my old Resmed quattro. The quattro was a great mask, but this one is much, much better for comfort and no leaks. I see the prices are about $20 or $63. The $20 models have a metal arm suspended above the head with a single loop whereas the $63 model has three loops for less tube movement. I am trying to research which one I should order from Amazon. Thank you.

I'm 35 days in using Bipap. It has been a love hate relationship! Love the results but uuugghhhh...
I've tried like 5 masks. I don't feel like the guy helped me much. Just handed me stuff said try this, try that. Now I have to wait 5-10 days for mail. Currently wrestling with the Evora Nasal. I like it but it seems to leak so much and the way it vents it blows softly in my face all the time. I go back to the N20 but to me it's loud when I breathe, sounds like Darth Vader and I don't like the solid air that blasts out the front. The N30 and Swift FX looked really good. I have about 30 days remaining that I can try things through the mail.
Would you please help me with your opinion with which nasal mask (I like the soft pillow ones as well just not the ones that go in the nose, they hurt) but which one(s) is the quietest and vents quietly and not the solid blast of air like the N 20?
This info would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

    Hi Lefty,
I'm no fan of the full face mask and struggle with leaks. I bought a F+P Brevida which fitted great with no leaks, but after 2 hours had to remove it due to the pain that developed. I can only put this down to my nose being broken years ago as theres no skin irritation just pain from the upward pressure of the inflated pillow.
I'm currently using the Simplus but would love a nasal mask. As you've tried so many, could you suggest a nasal mask or pillow that doesn't produce upward pressure in the septum area. I'm cool with direct pressure across the bridge but upward is a huge no no.
    Cheers Neil (Wales UK)

DO YOU STILL recommend Dreamweaver Phillips for side sleepers? Or resmed swift nano? I don't see the anything named nano on the cpap site. This video is 3 years old. Just starting out. I'm a side sleeper only and flip like a fish out of water . Full resmed foam I can't do on my side.

Move the CPAP machine to a low location precisely next to the bed, route the hose up to the headboard and create a device to keep it suspended at the headboard such as a vice grips with a bent clothes hanger. Then route the hose from the headboard location over a corner of the pillow to the CPAP user. Works great except when it is time to change the hose for a new hose.

I started using CPAP 4 months ago. They convinced me to get the Resmed N30i, which I hate. My breathing feels "forced" or it feels labored to breathe. I'm using the F20 now, which is okay. The biggest problem is that my nose often itches and I get leaks around the bridge of my nose. I saw your review of the F30i, and I'm thinking about ordering it. I am wondering if I would run into the same breathing issue, since part of it is also a nasal pillow. I would like to know your thoughts on it. Is the N30i just that bad or do you think I would experience the same issue with the F30i?

I've tried the Phillips Dreamwear gel pillow mask, the Resmed N30i nasal pillow, the Swift fx nano nasal mask (which the RUclips host loves), and the Resmed F20 full-face mask. I can't sleep with any except the F20. Breathing feels forced with the N30i nasal pillow, and it gets out of alignment with my nose when I sleep on my side. The air blowing out of the fx nano nasal mask hits my arms and annoys me. Breathing doesn't feel normal with it either. Breathing also feels labored with the Respironics Dreamwear gel pillows.
The only mask with which I can sleep comfortably is the Resmed F20 full-face mask. My biggest complaint with the F20 is getting an itchy nose at night and having to lift the mask to scratch it. Otherwise, it's comfortable and I can breathe NORMALLY. Hope this helps!

I'm looking to try to transition to using a Nasal Mask soon, ever since my sleep study, even during my sleep study like 5 years ago, they had me using a Full face mask, and the DME provided me with the Amaraview from the get-go, so I have always been on Full-Facemasks. The company my insurance went through doesn't carry ResMed products, so I had to choose the Dreamwear Full Facemask. The mask is decent, but I have to crank it down pretty tight to get it to not leak. So tight that it is very uncomfortable. With all my other FFM's they would usually leak around the mouth area, this one has a tendency to leak around my left nostril. I got the fit pack and tried every size. The large tends to be the best, but I always wake up to it leaking around the nose. Weird. but anyways, I would really like to try the Dreamwear Under The Nose Nasal Mask. Really hoping it works out, I'm really tired of dealing with having to use FFM's every night, some nights it makes me not even want to deal with the trouble so I just pass out with it off, which isn't good. Thanks for the Awesome Video and the Information. I know you probably won't read this because it's so long, but Thanks for putting these videos out and helping people. I've been a subscriber for quite a few years, ever since I got diagnosed.

I am in similar position. only been on CPAP for 1 year and only used the F and P Simplus medium FFM. I identified quickly that mouth drop was a big problem for me so I HAVE to use a cervical collar every night to attempt to control leaks/dry mouth. I'm wondering if a nasal mask would be good for me to try in order to eliminate variables of leaking around the mouth. Did you try the Dreamwear under the nose nasal mask? Any thoughts on that paired with a soft cervical collar?

    • @Zalagar619
      @Zalagar619 3 года назад

@@josephwalsh8309 I just got my prescription changed to the Dreamwear Under The Nose Cushion Mask. I'm liking it a lot more. So much more simple, I just pop it on, and it's good to go, no leaks. I'm experimenting right now if I can keep my mouth closed on my own during the night. I did have them give me a chin strap as well just in case, and if that fails, then I will try mouth tape or a boil and bite mouth guard or something, but I'm hoping I won't need it. I've only used it twice so far for short periods, not due to the mask, but the last few days I've been sleeping in like short bursts because I've been busy. I need to get a full rest in with it on to see if I'm good or not :)
