Saw Rory open for Rush on their Signals tour 1982. I'd never heard of him up to that time. I've never forgotten him since..

Something i like about Rory in a live setting is that, he knows his band, and he reads the room. You can find multiple live versions of this, and they all sound a bit different because he's kind of conducting the band to suit the moment, musically as well as theatrically. He instinctively knows when to drop the band down and when to build it back up.
    Magical stuff.

Rory, Robin, Jimi, Jeff and Geordie. Top 5 IMO in no particular order. To share their genius with us is magic.

Hi there, ich really appriciate your keeping the memory of my all time hero high. The first time i heard if himm was is 1977. Hw was the opener if the Rockpalast festval in Germany. He blew e away right fron the first song i heard. "Moonchild" But my favourite song is Tattoo'd Lady. The while show was mindblowing. Please check out if you like. Thanks very much.

Thank you for taking another listen to Rory! I know you're really enjoying his rockier side, but I'd highly recommend that you also check out his astonishing blues playing ("I Wonder Who" from 1984 Belfast is killer) or his fabulous acoustic playing. Try the 1988 RTE Late Late show version of "Out on the Western Plain", anything from the 1977 RTE "Me and My Music" session or the 1976 Rockpalast version of "Rag Mama Rag" for great samples of his acoustic work.

It's reputedly said that when Jimi Hendrix was asked what it was like to be the greatest guitarist in the world he replied "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher." Praise doesn't really come much higher than that.

This amphitheatre is only about a 45-minute drive up the Rhine river from where I'd once lived in Germany; It's on top of the Loreley rock, which is connected with the legend of the siren with that name. I witnessed U2's live simulcast from the same location a year later and got hooked on them right away 😀 Their fellow countryman Rory is great too, though! 😊👍

You should definitely check out "Tattoo'd Lady" live from The Irish Tour. It's amazing. And so is the sound. Rory was never interested in pop or rock status. He only wanted to play music. His acoustic set was great too. Most of those were covers from old American blues men.

I was lucky enough to see him twice in my teens. As you say, he always left everything out there. He was a 100% guy. As well as people like Slash and Joe Bonamassa, you may be surprised to hear that other people who claim his as an influence include Brian May from Queen and Johnny Marr from the Smiths. And Alex Lifeson from Rush (who toured with him several times, and became very friendly with him) openly admits to stealing his “pinch harmonics” technique 😁

Not a fan , I know he’s hugely well regarded and referenced but his style of music just doesn’t cut it for me , same with Gary Moore tbh
