What you may be missing is the fact that the arc of the song follows exactly what he's singing about. He starts off lamenting that his unrequited love renders him helpless and as the lyrics evolve the situation becomes hopeless. This is mirrored by what you referred to as the guitar variations and the 90's sound (exactly right, the guitar here sounds 20-30 years before its time). It's not that he is building to a finale, he is, with an electric guitar describing through his incredible talent what he is feeling until at the end he literally falls apart. The guitar documents his turmoil. It's his most autobiographical song. Remember Rory was an incredibly shy man despite his stage persona and this is the final calling card to the greatest love of his life (whoever that was) when he was just 22-23. An amazing song, it's hangs there forever poignant and vibrant.
Thanks so much for sharing!
The most accurate description of not only this song but Rory as a person.
Best musician ever. Never be another like him. Still so very missed.
This was from his first solo album released May 21 1971. Rory's music is timeless and I've recently been amazed at how relevant some of the pieces from his 1987 release Defender are in today's world ( Failsafe Day and Smear Campaign). They almost eerily foreshadow the last 3-4 years. Anyway, beautiful song with so much angst building in that final solo until its almost reluctant release. Brilliant musical capture of those emotions. Thanks for sharing!
Rory came to Cornwall many times ! What a legend ! we were so blessed to have him in our county ! Proper missed ..xx
Cool to see this reaction because, not everyone is aware of Rory Gallagher even within Ireland. A lot of young people dont know him, Hence he is often referred as " the greatest guitarist you've never heard of " I live in Dublin, Ireland and my favourite rock music from Ireland has to be a choice between Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy. Both of them piss all over Bono and u2 lol
Nice to see you guys back again with another Rory reaction! This song is from his eponymous debut solo album after Taste disbanded. This album has very strong jazz vibes throughout and worth listening to in its entirety. His guitar was an emotional conduit for Rory's musical soul and it really comes through in songs like this and A Million Miles Away. You might enjoy 'Can't Believe It's True' from this album where Rory plays some terrific alto sax. Anyway, thanks and keep on...
Thanks for watching!
Oh how I adored him. Self taught. Did you know there's an annual "Roryfest" in Ireland? This is pure 70s.
On my bucket list to go to Ireland and get my pic with his statue. Two years til retirement and making dreams a reality!
@@chazblitz I looked up about going to Roryfest this year but my aged parents are taking me on holiday so maybe next year? Perhaps I'll see you there?
@@DawnSuttonfabfour I'd be honored to share a couple pints of stout with you and that beautiful red hair. See ya there!
We did not know, that’s so amazing!
Saw him many times, mainly early/mid 70's. Loved the guy. This is awesome. Tender blues with an aggressive solo, love it!
Great Tune RORY GALLAGHER the Best Amen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This early stuff as a trio with Gerry and Wilgar is my favorite period of his career.
Voted best Irish love song, Rory, I love you.
Greatest Irish love song
I was fascinated and gladdened to see Sifa singing along to herself. This isn't one of his that I knew previously. Terrific song, performance, artist, reaction. Cheers, SAD.

Love you guys,great reaction! 1971
Thanks so much!
How do yall do all of my favorites
Love you guys
There's a Rory Gallagher Festival in Ballyshannon, Donegal, every year. You should go.
An amazing festival, was there in 2018. Rory was the best!
I don't buy into the whole best guitarist in the world, but that man owns his songs with passion.
That’s definitely true!
Silent "g" . Rory gallaher 😊
Rory was asked by John Peel if his name is said Gallaher, Rory then said Gallagher. Peel then said "OK please yourself". This can be heard on Taste box set I'll Remember on the track Railway And Gun. I'm also Irish, not that means anything and there are many accents in Ireland.
Nary a bad Rory song.
One of my favorites.
You guys have done cool underrated 90s band like Paw but HUM is one to definitely check out. They had like a 22 year gap between albums. Their newest album has some awesome tracks. I’d recommend the song “Step Into You”
I would like to put the name Tony Mcphee out there. S.A.D. should comment on him
Sifa has it on the button. I don't think I've ever heard a guitarist hold so little back through each song. I don't mean being all showy (of course he is and can be) but I mean just in that variation. I think Rory's own brain probably got easily bored so he was never just playing to get through a set list and get paid. Nope, he needed to entertain himself. He was giving the audience the experience he himself would have wanted to hear. You can't ask any more than that from any artist. With Rory, your ears are always seduced through an entire song.
We get that! Thanks for sharing!
Cork man. Jimmy Hendrix said Rory was th best guitarist he knew. Oh well.
Do yourself a favour and listen to the recorded irish tour version of A million miles away... the one you listened to was good but that version is exceptional, pretty much perfect guitar performance the pain depth + emotion is next level
