I am in complete agreement with you about why did I wait so long to discover Rory G. I am mid-60s, and even remember seeing Rory G albums in the head shop that I worked in during the late 70s...I just never bothered to take one of his records out of the jacket and play it. I started listening to him for the first time, just a couple of months ago, after seeing him on a live recording that one of my reaction subscriptions was watching.
Rory created a legion of songs with a high level of creativity, and very personal. Walk on the hot coals (Irish Tour 74) is a guitar lesson, skill, creativity, emotions....unique artist, no advertisements, highly respected in the musical environment, never received the true value. But he himself never cared about these placements. Cool that you open this space to promote your art, I'll always be watching your posts. Hugs from Rio de Janeiro.
Thank you! It's great that you've discovered the magic of Rory Gallagher, one of the finest guitarists to ever walk. Suggestions are for some pieces that have seen fewer YT reactions: Off the Handle from Top Priority, Calling Card from Calling Card , Loanshark Blues or I Ain't No Saint from Defender, Ghost Blues from Fresh Evidence, Fuel to the Fire from Photofinish. Check them out for a sample of his talent on the electric guitar. He was also a master of acoustic Blues. He could play that Martin and make you forget it was just him and his guitar. For that, check out On the Western Plain or Pistol Slapper Blues.
Great to see you continue on a Rory journey. Since you mentioned that you're not doing live videos yet, I suggest a two songs which are studio versions, but are so rippin' raw and have a live vibe to them: "In Your Town" from his Deuce album (driving beat like a freight train, with some of the best rockin' slide work ever) and "Cradle Rock" is a full-tilt, down and dirty rocker that'll leave you wanting more. Rory's catalogue is extensive and diverse. He was a brilliant songwriter with songs that are infused with an eclectic mix of blues, rock, jazz, folk, funk. SlumminAngel's suggestion "I Can't Believe It's True" is a great choice for his jazzy side. Anyway, it's all amazing stuff, thanks and keep on...
@@anngallifrey He sure did... and it was a perfect addition to the feel of the song. Still blows my mind that he pretty much picked up a sax and taught himself to play - and played very well!
Nice reaction, you can't go wrong with Rory - self taught singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist and widely acknowledged as one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. This song is, as you said, from his first solo album - he had previously recorded 2 albums with his band Taste, which broke up in 1970 (dodgy manager). As you're sticking with studio recordings for now may I suggest continuing with this album all of which is brilliant, particularly the track 'Can't believe it's True' on which he also plays saxophone (!) and then picking tracks from each album in the order they were released? Might take a while to get through them all though 😀 Albums in order Rory Gallagher Deuce Live In Europe (live) Blueprint Irish Tour (live) Tattoo Against The Grain Photo Finish Top Priority Stagestruck (live) Jinx Defender Fresh Evidence
No way. my uncle Earnie had a place within a few yards of this place, been there a few times in the 70's, caught brook trout in the stream next to the house. Small world.

Thanks for playing Rory, love you to react to Moonchild on the Calling Card album.
Rory Gallagher started his career fronting the band 'Taste', prior to his solo work. Check out their album 'Live at the Isle of Wight'.
Such an amazing performance by them and sadly enough their last performance together before Rory broke off to go solo.

A strong case can be made that Rory Gallagher is the greatest guitarist ever! Do You Read Me from Rock Goes to College 1979 is a great rocking tune!
I totally concur.
Meu eterno e inesquecível vício!
