Well we did mock Islam but every time we do people die. There is not blasphemy law in France. But don't worry we are French we complain and criticize everything and everybody
France has a long history with the church, popes used to live in France. Then by getting away from royalty, the French governments also moved away from the church. It's almost cultural to make fun of the church.

Which makes sense at the Olympic Games.

Hard to find a recap since the Olympics committee is taking down all copies and removed the footage from their own RUclips.

Okay first that was The feast of Dionysus. Second no Canadians were involved in that. That was French representing their history of art specifically fashion, as well as a reference to Greece where the games originated.

Best ceremony ever. Gojiro part was about metal. Also Parkour guy and horse girl were epic. A good representation of French history and culture.

I'm French the US praised the performance in general yet the Brits for some declined it... Yet imo it's the most atypical, versatile and eclectic opening ceremony ever. May be a bit too much fashion and the rap was not necessary to emphasize diversity

Very French, very threatrical, very exciting and unique. I felt beautiful emotion throughout the opening and especially enjoyed Celine’s rendition of L’hymne d’amour” and the whole openings message of world love and unity. Bravo!!!

Can ANYONE please give me a legitimate reason why this Olympics ceremony along with every other big event like the Oscar’s etc. that we see these days all seem to not only include diversity but focus mainly on it rather than on what the event is actually about ?

I kept alternating between the CBC and Radio-Canada live coverage to try and dodge the truly horrendous advertising timing that broke the key moments of the ceremony, the French commentators had the good sense to shut up during some sensitive moments of the show but the English commentators were simply infuriating.
Celine Dion song is a fabulous performance. I love Lady Gaga too.

You are not french so you don't understand the sense of France history, its culture. Thomas Jolly, the artistic director is a genius in art of scenography, he is also a theater and opera director. A huge success, the biggest opening ceremony of all time, all the foreign media are unanimous on this! I am so proud to be French! But for american people it's too high!!!

Turned on the TV this afternoon to catch the opening ceremonies. Saw some dude dressed in a dress walking on a runway and thought I had the channel wrong. Then I turned to another channel and it was the same thing. So thats it. I turned it off and wont watch the Olympics this summer. It's ruined for me now.

I can not believe South Korean team was called as a North Korea at the boat ceremony!! What a deliberate mistake. Great insult to all South Koreans. Bad impression to Paris.
Someone wrote it down. Someone else reviewed and approved the writing. Then the announcer reviewed the writing to make sure of correct pronunciation. When the time came they proclaimed "North Korea" in French and English.
France should be banned from the Olympics!!! The event serves to unite and respect everyone and what we saw was just gratuitous insults to Christians who did nothing against France and the Olympic games!
