If you want more funky rock, blues and soul, Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer with Vinegar Joe might fit the bill. I never thought of this a country song, just because Elkie Brooks was not a country singer, and since country music barely existed as a gene in the UK commercial music scene, I didn't spot the signs. This was a hit out of nowhere and gave Elkie Brooks a second shot at a career when a "Pearl" is exactly what she might have become. Pearl was also Janis Joplin's nickname, and the title of her final album.

The Bureaucrats - Grown Up Age is another great one from that era. cheers! I love how all the best punk rock of that era were just regular dudes; no mohawks, no safety pins, etc. just kids who wanted to rock'n'roll faster with a sense of humor. PS: Whoever uploaded this, i have a feeling that the beginning is an intro to their youtube channel. it's very long and unnecessary. He should shorten it. haha. I think as Canadians, it's important to touch on that era of Canadian music cause it was overlooked due to the Cancon laws and Canadian Music Union at the time, which meant that a lot of original groups were passed over in favor of cover bands. In 1977, Canada was right on the cusp of all the new music happening and nobody paid as much attention compared to New York and London. But we had some pretty cool unsigned bands, Action included. You both should be really proud to be doing what you are cause nobody else is. cheers.

The rabbit hole of all rabbit holes. So many different styles (and lineups) during their long and influential career. A lot of their stuff is definitely something where you struggle on a first listen but then eventually it all makes sense. Killer bass on 21st Century Schizoid Man too. It helps if you're not totally repelled by jazz!

King Crimson were great . In the court of the Crimson King was a great track from the same album . Again they sing many types of music .

Try 'Lilac Wine' by Elkie.. (i sent a you tube link in Patreon to you a while back) It's a strange song but worth it. She sings all kinds of genre, not just country! She was in a band before going solo.. She was in Vinegar Joe.

Thank you for doing this. Although this one of their greatest songs, it's not their signature song. "Do The Strand" is their undisputed signature. You missed an opportunity by not having headphones on during your first listen.
