In the BBC live recording from 1972 Roy Wood had already transfered into his white hair and beard look he had in Wizzard. He was wearing a red and green coat. Jeff Lynne played the bass in a long red coat.

Unmistakably Roy Wood. An excellent choice 👌

This was ELO's first album.. with Roy Wood.
Basically a morph from 'The Move'.
A very very early ELO.. who went on to great things with Jeff Lynne.
    Almost a Hymn, this one!

I haven't heard this in ages, this is from their first album, "No Answer", very much Roy Wood.

Thank you, Chris and Cynthia for reacting to ELO's "Whisper in the Night", incidentally, Graham Bonnet covered this song in 1972. Roy Wood only wrote four songs for ELO, the others are "Look at Me Now", inspired by The Beatles "Eleanor Rigby", "First Movement, (Jumping Biz)", inspired by Mason Williams's "Classical Gas", "The Battle of Marston Moor, (July 2nd 1644)", this is a medieval Baroque & Roll romp lasting about six minutes, it sounds like nothing else I've ever heard in my life. Bev Bevan hated it so much that he resused to play on it, so Roy Wood performed all the drums and percussion on it himself.

Until I stumbled across the other guy in the comments section of of some ELO reaction, I was sure I was the only person in the world who likes _Battle of Marston Moor_ - but there are two of us.
Roy Wood is also a genius, and it is incredible that ELO had both him and Jeff in the beginning.

Another guy copied it, certainly the music (but I'm not too sure of the lyrics because I'm not any good with Italian! But I'm assuming it's the same lyrics).
The guys name is.. Luigi Albertelli.

Please consider reacting to the Move’s “Brontosaurus “ from their great album, Looking On. It starts out as a heavy metal mid-tempo rocker and ends as flat-out rock and roll.

Roy Wood a genius, had he remained with ELO THEY COULD HAVE BEEN THE BEATLES OF THE 70'S Roy like Lennon would introduce unexpected lyrics or rifts on any instrument you care to name (Check out Boulders, Mustard and starting up albums) With Jeff you get slick polished productions of popular songs like Paul McCartney . Both are clever composers!

Is it time for the cup final? The melody of this song sounds suspiciously like that used for the hymn, Abide With Me traditionally sung before the English FA Cup final. To be honest, this is all a bit dreary and sentimental, but I never was much of a fan of ELO once the novelty wore off.

"Wear a Fast Gun", the last track on the "Wizzard Brew" album is very similar in style to "Whisper in the Night", you mentioned it sounding similar to "Abide with Me", the members of Wizzard sing "Abide with Me" in the background of Roy Wood singing "Wear a fast gun and you'll be alright, through the fight stand by me. Wear a fast gun and you'll live tonight, holding on, holding on, take your place and stand by me". This is one of my favourite Wizzard songs, the cello solo in it makes it sound so much like an early ELO song. It could have been a song that Roy wrote for the proposed second ELO album "The Lost Planet", which was reworked by Jeff Lynne and released as Electric Light Orchestra II in 1973.

It sounds like a demo Roy did in his bedroom that he presented to Jeff for further work but Jeff wasnt impressed and put it out as is .. 😧
This should’ve been a Roy Wood solo effort imho .. and I’m a little irritated that hearing this track for the 1st time has eventually unearthed an ELO track I DIDNT like in any way .. really glad Roy went off on his own and allowed Jeff to get on with making ELO a massive international success . 🤨

The album was remastered 30 years later in 2001-the original LP sound mix was bad & nobody was happy with it.

    What a boring song.
No wonder they replaced Roy Wood with Jeff Lynne.
ELO have some of my favorite songs of all time. So, I am oh so happy this change occurred.
How can you beat the songs, The whale or Shangri-La.

    • @lhpl
      @lhpl 8 дней назад +2

Roy wasn't replaced, he got Jeff to join the Move with the intention of starting ELO. He then left ELO to do his own stuff, possibly due to some conflict with Don Arden.
And Roy's song are never boring.
