Saw Rory in 73 opening up for Deep Purple when they were peaking . he blew the roof off the place and after his set he did an encore and we were standing on our chairs screaming for another encore which he did but we wanted more..Rory made it very difficult for Deep Purple that night to come on after him.
Yay ! More Rory Gallagher is always a brilliant experience ! His Live Album "Irish Tour 74 " is a Masterpiece ! tracks such as " Million Miles Away " " Cradle Rock " "My Own Stomping Ground " are just a few worth mentioning ! Great Reaction to this very Modest and Under rated Genius . Cheers for that , Made a Crappy Monday so much more not a Monday !
You guys are masters of the understatement, Rory Gallagher 'quite talented'. Imo he's one of the best guitar players ever. no pedals or effects, all the sound coming from his fingers. You should check out some of Rory's acoustic stuff. The host of The Old Grey Whistle Test had the nickname of 'Whispering' Bob Harris. Speaking of Lefties, Elizabeth Cotton was left handed, who played her guitar left handed, but strung right handed. Perhaps check her out too, One of her better known songs was Freight Train. Doyle Bramhall plays a left handed guitar, but strung as a right handed guitar. I really enjoy your reactions. You seem to cover bands and songs other reacters don't. Keep up the good work guys.
77,78,79… I used to watch TOGWT praying it would be a punk band and that did happen an odd time but more usually it was auld Bob waffling on quietly about having Jethro Tull , Asia , Steve miller , Lynard Skynard , Genesis and other boring auld farts on the show later 👍🏴
Thank you for doing this, Chris and Cynthia, Rory was an excellent artist R.I.P. As for the last name pronunciation it all depends if it's Gaelic or English, if the name is of a English person it's pronounced as you would do in Canada, but if they're from Ireland or Scotland the other pronunciation is used, confusing I know. The presenter of 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' is 'Whispering' Bob Harris, he started out as a DJ on Radio in the '60s.
Rory was asked by John Peel if his name is said Gallaher, Rory then said Gallagher. Peel then said "OK please yourself". This can be heard on Taste box set I'll Remember on the track Railway And Gun.
Thanks for returning to Rory. One of the things I love about him is that every time he performed a song the guitar solos were just that little bit different but they were always perfect. Another great Rory video i would recommend is I Could Have Had Religion - ruclips.net/video/iMevQtK8S6c/видео.htmlsi=iMzULbRQ5J3ochp1 I love it’s grittiness.
Hey , there’s “ whispering “ Bob Harris from TOGWT.. legend 😅… Rory was another one of those guitar show offs that just went right over my head , like Gary Moore too 😮 👍🏴
The fender Stratocaster, he is playing is the guitar cliff Richards bought for hank marvin, but fender sent one finished in " sunburst" , the wrong colour! ,, hank wanted a red strat , so rory bought the sunburst cheap for £100,, hank still plays the red one till this day 🏴 happy healthy peace ✌️
@@ghichens3418 yes cliff ordered it from a shop in Dublin, when It got there they told cliff it was the wrong colour, so they didn't want the delay in sending it back , they wanted a red one ( the first in the UK) sent immediately, so they had to agree to keep the " sunburst model , Rory's one" , incidentally Rory's one lost it's sunburst Finnish when it was stolen, and found under a bush months later, I think you will find 🏴✌️
@JamesDickson-vs5of You've got that story a bit mixed up there, the original owner of Rory's strat was Jim Conlon of the Royal Showband in Ireland. He used it for about a year, but wanted a red one LIKE Hank Marvin's, which he ordered from Crowley's music shop and when it came in, he traded in the sunburst one for it, which Rory then bought and paid for in weekly instalments, with his mum as guarantor. £100 was a LOT of money in 1963 especially for a 15 year old schoolboy! Absolutely nothing to do with Cliff Richard!
@@SlumminAngel story I Heard was the cliff Richards, Hank Marvin one , and according to Rory himself, it was his big sister who signed the h/p agreement, after Rory told her with the strat , he could play lead and rhythm on it himself, he would make more money gigging, she " believed" him and the legend was born , was that the royal show band that were murdered in there mini bus , I seem to remember something way back then 🏴✌️
The problem with Rory for me, and it's not unique to him, is that, as brilliant as he is as a guitar player, there's a limit to how many iterations of the blues I can listen to before I want to hear something else. Rory seemed to ne comfortable in his niche, but it would have been nice to hear what he could have done in the context of a more musically ambitious band. It's not as though the opportunity wasn't there.
@@wildapplellamas7751 It's not meant to be a reflection on the band. They are good players following Rory's musical direction. And it's interesting to me if musicians try diverse styles, even if it doesn't always work out very well. The obvious parallel with Rory is Gary Moore. You could argue about who was the better guitar player, but there's no doubt who had the more wide-ranging career.
@@ghichens3418 I think it's a fair point. How many lumberjack shirts does anyone need? Allowing that lumberjacks probably have a greater requirement than the average man in the street.
Rory was an excellent vocalist & amazing guitarist 🎸 .. Shame he died so young. What a talent.

Thanks for another great Rory reaction! I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the drummer, Rod DeAth, was ambidextrous.
Great track that you are named under Pard !!! Cheers !
The other song he played that night was Hands Off, i recognise his shirt!

Rory must have come out the womb with a guitar attached.
Rory could talk to a guitar and get a reply. RIP Legend
That was a great reaction!
Rory and Gary were two great guitarist's
from my Island, both masters of their art.

A master class in pinch harmonics.
In Ireland we call a lefti a south paw
There's another song from this session called " Hands off". I saw Rory thirteen times icluding six with Taste. 🎸🎸
Real musician.
Gallagher pronounced "Galla-her" in Ireland where he is from, invariably the silent G is pronounced elsewhere

I think it's mainly in Ireland the G is dropped in the name Gallagher.
Fantastic performancce but the version of this song on the Irish Tour 74 album is better (and longer).
Looking at the big picture, it doesn't matter, Rory never lets down. But for the record, the Madrid '75 one is where he steps out of this universe.
