There's more than one annual festival. I think there's one in Cork, but there's also, weirdly, one in Nantwich, Cheshire, England. Fortunately, although I'm Northern Irish, Nantwich is 20 miles from where I now live.
When major acts cowardly shunned Northern Ireland during the troubles Rory was one of the few acts that came here regularly. He has a special place in the hearts of Northern Irish people.
Saw rory 11 times late 70s to 90s. He was simply the best. Great gigs, long sets, so much energy . Beautiful personal sound. Great guy too. Much missed.
Thank you for a Rory reaction! As clearly exhausted as he was, Rory came out and played two encores after this song. I highly recommend that you watch the opener to this same show with the song "Shin Kicker" to give you an idea of the energy he put into his performances from beginning to end. While I think this video is popular for how kinetic it is, I don't believe it's representative of the depth of Rory as a performer. He was a brilliant natural multi-instrumentalist - electric & acoustic, slide & pickin' guitar, mandolin, harmonica, electric sitar, saxophone with an extensive and diverse catalogue of music. He was a blues master and his rock 'n roll was purely full-tilt. His performance of "All Around Man" from the Old Grey Whistle Test show is a must see, and full of surprises. Also, suggest "A Million Miles Away" from the Irish Tour '74 film, a soul-stirring mood piece. Anyway, I hope this is a beginning for you to experience Rory Gallagher. Keep on... you won't be disappointed.
Nice one Nora, always see your name popping up on these reaction videos. My older brother was a big Rory fan when I was a kid and as my brother was my hero I liked anything he liked, I shared a room with him and there were two pictures on the walls, rory and Che Guevara. I don’t care what anyone says, rory was a far better musician than Che! It’s the duty of every Irish person to introduce Rory to people around the world. The best guitar player you probably haven’t heard of
Fuck, the rock and roll of , they don't deserve him,,My wife saw him, I babysat, the bar was in bad part of Tucson, he didn't make any money, he just loved playing in Hole in the wall true Irish man❤😂🎉😢😮😅
The GMan was in my humble opinion No 1. I saw him in concert in the 70s and 80s and he gave everything. He played as if it was going to be his last gig every time. He left us far too early but he left us some great music so it’s up to us fans out there to keep spreading the word. Rest easy Rory.
I had the great pleasure of seeing Rory play live around 1979. Without a doubt,, it was the greatest show I've ever witnessed and I've seen all the greats of my era.
Rory was a man of the people he loved the people he played for .He's been my top guy for decades I got on board in the mid 70s He passed away in 96 my heart was broken he died from an infected liver .
I'm sitting here watching this with my dog,Rory sleeping at my feet. Anyone who has not heard of Rory Gallagher, is in dire need of education. He was my hero, such a beautiful guy, sadly taken too soon. And yes,he was the greatest ,as a musician, and as a person.
Rory is incredible. his band were tremendous. Try "I fall apart" it's gorgeous. Such a lovely guy too. Tragic, Great to see you both. Kel you look beautiful.
Rory first came to my attention around1972 with the release of the album Live in Europe which was a great album. He was born in my home county of Donegal in Ireland. Sadly he died too young. RIP Rory.
I regularly went to see Rory in Coventry ,through 1970s, he was fantastic ,and it was almost like a family get together!! Loved him to bits !! So underrated, absolutely magnificent onstage live !!
Thanks for the Rory reaction. He deserved so much more recognition than he got in life. My favorite Rory song is straight up blues. Its called What In The World played for BBC sessions. He was elemental. ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
A feedback virtuoso so was Jimi of course. Like they could feel the notes in the air without even touching their guitar. Hope they're rocking out together nice thought Rich.
I was blessed and honored to see Rory in ‘82 at a small club in San Francisco (The Stone) and while waiting in line to get in, a station wagon pulls up in front of the club and out comes Rory and his long time bass player Gerry and start unloading their gear. Me and my bestie at the time jump over and start to help and Gerry said something like “aw, you guys are the best” and started handing us equipment. That’s the kind of guys they were. So appreciative of their fans and so unaffected by fame and that’s why people love Rory. Just a class act who could play the crap out of his Strat. Fender guitar issued a commemorative edition that’s as beat up as Rory’s. RIP Rory ❤❤
A little Dr Jekyll, a liitle Mr Hyde - that could describe Rory. Off-stage, reserved, softly spoken. On stage a totally different persona. He lived for his music. It was a privilege to have seen him perform and meet him off-stage.
Guys, you have to check out Rory playing a track called 'Walk on hot coals' from a British tv show called 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' from the mid-seventies. It is just brilliant. all the best.
I shook Rorys hand . Best day of my life. The " humble genius".... zero ego.... no opinions . Seldom played the same song the same way twice in a row. No one cared. He was feeling it. He played Shin Kicker first the night i saw him. Whole place eating out of his hands three barres in and it never stopped. Man of the people indeed.
I 1st saw Rory in 1976 when he opened for Jethro Tull & Robin Trower. I had never heard of him before but he blew me away. After Rory & Trower, Tull had no chance that night. Next day I went & bought Rory's Irish Tour '74 album & played it for my brother. You should do reaction to Cradle Rock & Tattoo'd Lady from that album.
r gallagher was, in addition to being a great artist, incredibly close to his audience. he could turn an insipid place into an erupting volcano. I saw him 4 or 5 times in concert, always with the same joy. RIP Irish Man.great choise. Thanks
I've walked across Rory Gallagher place in Cork, Ireland so many times. As a guitar player I have so much respect for what he managed to wring out of his instrument. Such a talented man. Wish I could have seen him live.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! not enough people have yet discovered Rory 'The Peoples Guitarist' he was a giant, and as you said he avoided the big concert halls and such, because he wanted the close interaction with his fans. That concert was a blast but there are so many more, even better concerts that you will discover, Good Luck.
Rory was the best. I was lucky enough to see him many many times. I remember seeing him at Reading 73 (weekend camping ticket was around £4.75 !! for Rory, Rod Stewart & the Faces, Genesis, Quo, Spencer Davis etc) - he stole the weekend of course - and a St.Patricks Day gig in London where he had provided pints of Guinness for all the concert goers and left them on every bit of the bar tops, ledges etc., what a man sadly missed.
Seen him twice. To get a good feel for Rory you should check out a couple of DVD of concert footage. One is live at Montreax which is a 2 disk collection. First one features selected songs from four different concerts over the years. Disk 2 has a full concert from the mid 90s. Another great collection is Live at Rockpalast. It's 3 disks contain 5 full concerts at various stages of his career. Both are great DVD. This video is on the Montreax DVD.
Went to see Rory at Reading Festival , UK in the early 80s. He was on stage for well over 2 hours. He was such a great versatile musician and as you can see he put on a great show. He did some great accoustic work too
At the age of 63 having seen virtually everything, there is nothing better than watching humble Rory show everyone else how to do it. No show bullshit, gimmicks. Just class.
I first saw Rory on The Midnight Special in the late 70s. I couldn’t get over the amount of love that he showed for his music and especially his fans. I’ve been a fan since that day and love to see new people discover him. Your reactions were priceless , and clearly showed the emotions that I and you were feeling. Thanks for this wonderful gift. I look forward to your next one!
Rory, although not as well known as most of the usual names mentioned when talking about the greatest guitarists in Rock/Blues history, his fellow rock guitarists all knew him, and how great he was. I'm talking about quotes from guys like Pete Townsend of The Who, Jimi Hendrix, who said "Rory is the greatest guitarist that nobody outside Ireland, or the UK, have never heard of. He's in many people's top 3 of all time. My top 3 are Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, and Rory Gallagher. Rory wasn't really playing for the money, or fame, he loved playing in small intimate venues, where he, and his audience were very close, and Rory could interact with people in the crowd. This Irish Rocker is one of the greats.
Thank you, I'm a big fan of Rory. First time I saw him on German TV in the 70th and last time at concert in Vienna in the 90th. For me he is also one of the greatest guitarists of all time and I love his music. Your reaction was very pleasant, accurate and respectful. I even learned new facts. I didn't know the story about Brian May.
I never saw Rory solo but saw Taste half a dozen times including at the IOW in 1970., he was a force of nature. Sometimes you could see fear and terror in the eyes of his bandmates because they had no idea what he was going to do next, they just had to do their best in following his lead. That beat up guitar, that's how I felt after watching Taste live. Extraordinary guitarist and vocalist that often doesn't get the love he deserves, taken too soon RIP Rory.
I had the good fortune of seeing Rory twice, once in 82 and again in 91. The 91 show was in L.A. and Slash was in the audience. For his encode Rory brought Slash out and they jammed on a couple of Chuck Berry tunes. Other songs to consider are A Million Miles Away, Moonchild. Brute Force and Ignorance, Bad Penny and Middle Name.
im a lucky man seen Rory many many times. his passion and energy live his love of music, draws you in. i have a guitar pick of his. i had a chance to speak with him. a true gentleman. RORY FOREVER!
Thanks for this, Kel N' Rich! Welcome to the Rory club! Rory's the greatest of all time in my book. Even Ritchie Blackmore said he's the most natural talented player he ever saw, and he toured with Rory when he was in Deep Purple and Rainbow in the 70s. His command over the instrument is unreal, his tone is unmatched and he never played the same song in the same way twice, always changed something. He almost never looks at his guitar while doing those insane mostly improvised solos, and his guitar tone goes from heavy punch to almost violin like when he wants. It's truly mind-blowing. You need to get the Irish Tour '74, The Montreux and Rockpalast Box Sets and Rock Goes To College '79(you should react to Do You Read Me and Mississippi Sheiks(killer slide guitar here) from that one, it will leave you floored). After watching more of him you'll come to my conclusion as well :))) He's in a class of his own.
I was blown away when I saw Slash talking about Rory he said " when I first met Rory it shocked me that he knew who I was." This was long before Slash was famous and still playing clubs in L.A.
in 2010 i had the great pleasure of a night out in Cork with Gerry McEvoy … am from Cork myself … such great stories . one in particular and ye can check it out on youtube . Tattoo d lady . rockpalast , wiesbaden , one of my favourite live performances from Rory … Gerry said it was just spiritual ,, way longer than normal and Gerry and Ted improvised as they had to most nights . no two song renditions ever the same . thank you Gerry for a wonderful night , such a gentleman and great company … and thank you Rory .. the greatest
Lets all give a hand to the rythm section who kept the whole song together. My friend is a top notch guitarist and he always feels safest to play when drummer and bassist can keep the song going on. This gives more freedom to the fireworks from guitar ;)
Great reaction for a phenomenal artist. I had the privilege and pleasure to see Rory live 5 times in concert. Always something to look forward to as he was one of the few artists who would play regularly in Belfast, Northern Ireland during the 1970’s and 80’s. Check out Rory’s acoustic guitar playing such as The Barley And Grape Rag or his version of Leadbelly’s ‘Out On The Western Plain’ R.I.P. Rory Gallagher an absolute legend.
Great you reacted to Rory. Hope you do more an check out his acoustic work too. Also suggest you watch the documentary/concert video of Irish Tour 74. Gives a great insight into Rory, and at the time proable the best band he had, in my view, since the original Taste.
Well, perhaps that 's some of teh magic of Rory.. He was not only a musician's musician, but also primarily a live musician. And durn.. that boy could play..
I don't see another comment on this, but I think when the gain is turned up to its max, the guitar strings will vibrate with whatever sounds are in close proximity, making all kinds of noises and sounds. The bass guitar and drums were still playing, and that would also vibrate the stage - thus causing the guitar to appear to be playing itself. You can sure see some similarities between him and Hendrix. Thanks for the video.
Gallagher live was unforgettable. Grew up in Cork with his music. First gig was Irish Tour’74 in the City Hall Cork. He lived his music and was a true artist. Rory’s Stratocaster now donated to the National Museum Ireland having recently been purchased in auction by Live Nation for $1M. Rory was not only a great artist but a lovely guy to boot as anyone who ever met him will testify . Quite simply if you heard him live you knew he was a genius, if you don’t know he’s a genius you never heard him live. RIP Rory.
Nice one! Never saw him live, alas, but they used to play this at Rock Disco in town I used to frequent as a youth in the 80s. Never failed to fill the dancefloor with headbangers and air guitar virtuosos rocking out like their lives depended on it. The man's a frickin' legend among those who know. Welcome to the club. As to how he was getting that sound from the apparently discarded guitar, I can only suppose it was a combination of pedal effects and feedback. Secrets of the Guitar Masters I guess. Another in this vein you might like to check out is "Cherry Red" by the Groundhogs. Them I did get to see live on a couple of occasions. Lead guitarist Tony McPhee has to be one of the sweatiest men I've ever seen, but the sounds he could wring out of that well worn Gibson SG were like nothing on earth.
The most undervalued, underestimated, underrated guitarist EVER!!!! No player had his energy on stage, his fans loved him, he loved his fans, a true people's guitar hero!!!! 🎸
I think you’ve been living under a rock if you’ve never heard of Rory. Not so big in the states maybe but a very popular artist despite shunning the limelight. Slash, Brain May and Johnny Marr are all big fans amongst many. The Hendrix quote is urban legend. One of the best ever for sure. The Rory Gallagher custom shop model is one of Fender’s best selling. They even have a meeting room named after him - he’s far from unknown guys.
Watch Irish Tour the movie, Montreux in 1977 , and Taste at IOW 1970. Each performance shows his energy and skillful playing. He would always connect with the audience. Irish Tour shows him returning to the guitar shop where he bought that infamous Stratocaster. Joe Bonamassa was a huge fan and I saw him play Rorys strat, that Donald Gallagher his brother, had lent him. Not as well as Rory I might add.
Thx for taking this video. Saw Rory several times and met him once backstage and was blown away by his kindness. He's my alltime favorite since 1980. Love the way you dive into the video😄
Memories of Waterbury Palace Theater 1978! Rory gives you your monies worth! After he did that on stage, they came back for 2 encores. Rory was the "real sh*t"! Peace & Love.( That was a phase shifter that gave that guitar it's sound and sustain. He had a skin condition that wore the finish off that iconic strat!)
Rory is Ireland’s favorite son. Every year there is a festival celebrating Rory and his music. There’s no one like Rory.
His statue was erected I'm June 2010 in the center of Cork Ireland. They love their Rory.
Rory fest in Ballyshannon! I have bin there 4 times! Absolutely fantastic festival!

From Australia, Rory Gallagher is much loved down under, love your reactions , Peace from down under.
Proud irishman here. So privileged to have this man come from here. Wish he was till around. Him and Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy died too soon.
I said it before and I will say it again, it just doesn't get any better than Rory Gallagher.
Rory gone but definitely not forget! It just can't get any better. Anything Rory plays and sings is at another level to most.
Incredible 3 piece
The only thing I don't like about Rory Gallagher is that he is no longer with us.
ruclips.net/video/dHemhV7guJo/видео.htmlsi=_1e_MWaoDWZKaH3O a little bit of Rory, recognise anyone, enjoy.
When major acts cowardly shunned Northern Ireland during the troubles Rory was one of the few acts that came here regularly. He has a special place in the hearts of Northern Irish people.
Rory didn't play his songs, he lived them on stage, full of passion.
Rory never played the same song the same way twice. Saw him 6 times and he was just phenomenal.
Rory Gallagher lived in Cork Ireland which is the same county that I'm from, thank you for reacting to this Irish legend.
Saw rory 11 times late 70s to 90s. He was simply the best. Great gigs, long sets, so much energy . Beautiful personal sound. Great guy too. Much missed.

Shout out to the Bass Player. He's killing it!!

I grew up following Rory. What nobody mentions is the festival in Ballyshannon Ireland every June celebrating the life of Rory. Worth looking at.
Michael Schenker (of UFO and MSG) is on the bill for this year's festival. He has always cited Rory as an influence.
Been to Ballyshannon 5 times up to now. Looking forward to my next one

To answer your question, he strummed it and placed the guitar face down pickups on high, stage vibration and feedback did the rest.
And Rory was the purest guitar gods of them all, probably
I have seen a lot of Rory and he is fantastic but I've never seen this show - AMAZING!!!

Just the best🎉
Learned of Rory in the early 70's when i was 18 years old 69 now and I've been listening to him for 50 years....The Irish Hurrican !! Rory on!!
I was blown away when I saw Slash talking about Rory he said " when I first met Rory it shocked me that he knew who I was." This was long before Slash was famous and still playing clubs in L.A.
@7:08 The audience member gave Rory his plec back after he dropped it. That's old school Rock & Roll fans right there 😅
in 2010 i had the great pleasure of a night out in Cork with Gerry McEvoy … am from Cork myself … such great stories . one in particular and ye can check it out on youtube .
Best Gitarrist of all Time with a Great Band an a stage Performance at its best 😍. I Love it !!!!
There will never, ever, be another like Rory. What a musician. Makes me proud to have Irish blood.
I still keep looking for the extra 2 fingers on his left hand. Not just a great guitarist, but such s humble beautiful soul.
That’s the stuff we were hoping for. Thank you so much Jay B!!!!!!!!
KnR 🫵🧨❤️👏👏👏👏👏
Rory simply was the GOAT, i dont have to say more as you cannt better that.
RIP Rory 🙏.
Those were the days. I've probably listened to or watched it at least a 100 times by now. Stellar performance.
No guitar burning or playing with teeth. Just sheer raw, undiluted talent.
Saw Rory and band in 1985 I think 😜... just an exceptional talent and a down to earth guy, unique and wonderful 🥰
The most undervalued, underestimated, underrated guitarist EVER!!!! No player had his energy on stage, his fans loved him, he loved his fans, a true people's guitar hero!!!! 🎸
For a small island. We consistently turn out world class talent and then exceptional one’s. Just like our Ruairí !!!
🇮🇪👍☘️
Look for Alex Lifeson (RUSH) and Brian May (QUEEN) interview talking about Rory Gallagher.
Rory...the best there ever was...
Glad to see you guys back and looking well. 👍👍
Now yav heard of him ..he's still the greatest guitarist ever 👍
I heard he had a rare blood type that caused his sweat to be acidic and that's what took the paint off his guitar.
@@williambevins Yep. That sounds right. I have liver issues also! Memory can be affected, phaser?- Flanger oops.
@@jamespaivapaiva4460 Seen him twice. He was an amazing performer. This was my request BTW.
@@williambevins That is terrific. It's up to us to keep their music alive. Thanks for the request and Peace.
Considered as Mick Taylor's replacement in the Rolling Stones but couldn't imagine himself playing Kieth Richard's riffs.
