👍 Time keeps on ticking... Going through a box of old ticket stubs not long ago. My first rock concert: May 19, 1973 (50 years SMH) East Tennessee State University Rory Gallagher - ZZ Top 4 bucks It was about two months before ZZ Top's Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate. He and his band were phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, BG and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and BG made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. RIP Dusty, Rory, Lou, and Rod. Thank You! Keep Rockin, Gerry!
I was lucky to see him three times , he never played Calling Card and this is the first time I have heard calling card live . Thanks . He was in his prime on the Guitar .
Simply put, there was no one like Rory Gallagher - a true one off that we'll never see the likes of again. He touched and connected with fans like no other and left us such an extensive library of outstanding music - which includes blues, rock , jazz, folk, funk. No matter where you go next with your Rory journey it's all amazing stuff.
Rory Gallagher is one of the best blues/rock guitarists there ever was. For a great blues song check out A Million Miles Away from Irish Tour 74. For a great rocker checkout Shadow Play from Montreax 79. Other songs to check out are Tattooed Lady, Moonchild, Brute Force and Ignorance, Bad Penny and Off the Handle. Any live performance of those songs would be great.
And that's how it should be done! Thanks so much! Yes, there's lots of Rory out there to be heard, both on albums and live versions. This is a great bluesy number with some hot guitar. For a more rocking piece, I'd suggest the 1979 Rock Goes to College video of "Do You Read Me?" which shows Rory in full flight. Without a video is the brand new posthumous release of "All Around Man Live in London" and the music is on fire. "Ghost Blues" would be my first suggestion from this album for a start.
Thank you for doing Rory Gallagher! For me, you can do pretty much any song performed by him and his band and you will hear quality music and performance! :)
The late great Rory Gallagher was a beast on guitar, and I loved vocals. He was from Ireland and his genre is definitely blues. lol He started off in a trio band called "Taste", but he left the band in 1970. Here's a live performance of them performing together, if interested. "Rory Gallagher - Tore Down (1972) Savoy Limerick" (The thing to keep in mind), as you become familiar with other artists you will see familiar artists as they appear in Collab's together or they will leave one band and go with another. This was so fun I love Rory Gallagher. Thanks so much for sharing this
Yeah, "Shadowplay" live at Montreux 1979! I saw Rory play 4 times. He would play until the venue pulled the plug on him. I love this guy and his music.
Rory Gallagher is one of the top 3 greatest guitarists ever, only behind Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Not many know of Rory, because he never sought the big money or to be a big Rock Star. Believe me, the Rock Stars of the world know who Rory Gallagher is, or I should say was. Rory died in the early 90s, I think. Jimi Hendrix said about Rory, "He's the greatest guitarist that almost no one outside of the UK knows." He is a Bad man.
The reason most people aren’t familiar Witt Rory, is simply because, Rory didn’t want the big record company push, the money, the massive fame/acclaim and fortune, he only wanted one thing,…. to play for his fans. End.
👍

Ireland's High King of Blues /Rock guitar . Legend! RIP Rory.
Never listened to him much. Now I see why Hendrix raved about him so much.
This was a warmup. His great stuff awaits you!
Obsessed! Love him forever ♾️

Rory has so much material you could react to 200 plus songs easy. Do You Read Me from Rock Goes to College 1979 is my pick for you to react to!

A true Irishman.
