  • This is a video about the daily life of my Tegu and it's care. I also show the size and setup of its cage. Also the cage is that size because if it was any bigger it would not have fit through the door into my house.

    I have a ferret harness for my reptile rocketship! My tegu races up screen doors and eats any egg she see's. Like all Tegus the tail is a bullwhip and the claws are very sharp.... nice video dude

    She's a beauty. The enclosure is really nice, I like how she so nonchalantly walks into her enclosure and wanders around she clearly knows it's her home. Does she let you handle her, like carry her/pick her up (or would you even want to at this size?) Thanks! :)

    I've got a similarly big lizard (a green iguana) which didn't poop all over the place because it was potty-trained. I basically just put a bunch of newspapers in a part of the room and it will always go there to poop. Tegus are supposed to be one of the most intelligent species of reptiles, so I'm pretty sure they can learn too. I don't keep my iguana in a cage, it just lives in my room and sleeps under my pillow.

    @pokelegofan I buy it separate it into meals sizes in ziplocks and freeze it, just thaw it in the micro wave (boiling is messy with turkey) add some cod liver oil and maybe some fruits or greens. make sure its not to hot because Tegus just get mad at the turkey and keep trying to eat it.

  • @MainelyElectrons
    @MainelyElectrons 10 лет назад

    Not all of them but some do. For the first 2 weeks of having my tegu he didnt even notice his waterbowl, I had to get him to drink by misting the ground next to him until a puddle formed

  • @mrtegu
    @mrtegu  14 лет назад

    @ViscoHD Yes if you do the wrong thing and sometimes if your doing nothing wrong at all. They have little tombstone shaped serraded teeth all around their mouth and when they bite down they hit like an alligator and death role. Mine has bit me twice and it hurt for about a week each time, infected instantly, swelled up, and bled for a really long time. And that was when it was a baby. Now I think it could take a finger off.

  • @Zemadclover
    @Zemadclover 11 лет назад

    No, it's not a bad idea at all. As long as the tegu goes out by himself and is able to get back in it's cage there's no problem. Even better if you put a heat lamp outside of it's cage so it can get heat and everything it needs. Hell I've even seen some people who don't have cages for their tegu and they put heat lamps around the place and their tegus are completely fine.

    @19green90 I give my Tegu ground turkey and cod liver oil a few times a week to help it poo! to much of anything creates problems. Just be careful of fatty liver disease with some cod liver oil.

    Ok I absolutely love your cage did u build that, I'm planning on getting a tegu and what are dimensions again and if you built it how did you like what are all the supplies you needed and where'd you get the actual stuff for her like therm lights stuff to mount the lights and if you ordered it from where and how much and if you built how much did it cost to build

    The video card went out in mine and had to ship it off for $100 6 days after the warranty was up. And as long as the dog is in a cage or something till you get home it should be fine when the tegu gets older. I also have 2 ferrets and between him and them they get the afternoon and he gets the day out to play.

    very nice tegu was it from varnyard? Ive just made a tank just like yours and used 3/4 plywood. use a 250 watt heat light that is controled by a heat temp sensor and a fan all toghet cost was about 450 but i used storm windows instead of glass so that was about 40.00 bucks a window but just in chase flood lights are cheap and most walmarts have them and are open all night just so if you need a light in a hurry.great video look forward to more.

  • @mrtegu
    @mrtegu  14 лет назад

    @redluv777 Yes it will grow back, but it will not be stripped like before it will just be a gray color. And as for the open wound theres not much you can do for it unless you take it to a reptile vet and have them look at it. Other than that just try and clean up any poop in its cage asap bc thats where any infection would come from.

  • @mrtegu
    @mrtegu  14 лет назад

    @lukeb2224 nope, a heat matt would do nothing through the plywood pr under the mulch

  • @CemetaryGatesML
    @CemetaryGatesML 13 лет назад

    @lifted2500 honestly dude easyest way to settup a tank would be...
    for a baby, a 100gallon is perfect for good while. keep it clustered with stuff in the begining then take stuff out as she grows.
    as for lighting, all you need is a "exo-terra Solar Glo" bulb that has heat+UV in one, whitch is the cheapest and smartest path to go. and for bedding i use coco hust mixed with plantation soil... its light and fluffy so they can burrow easy.
    when your tegu becomes massive... then upgrade.

  • @LarissaLurid

    @dinomanj they definitely need a lot of taming but then they can be very nice. they can be food and cage aggressive if you dont feed them the proper way. also they need a lot of attention and taming every day to make them tame and keep them that way. they go through around 6 months of "teenage years" as well which is pretty hard for a lot of people to deal with. its definitely something that takes patience and time. the more effort you put in the more tame yours would be. :]

    @EmchuNP i give my tegu 1 large meal over week and a few side dishes overy 2 days.

    and 2 mice on usualy 2 medium mice or 2 baby rats on satuday night/ sunday

    Hi everyone.
    mrtegu, I'm building my own tegu enclosure at the moment from an old cabinet (inspired by your video).
    What I would like to know is what kind of finish did you use on the inside of the enclosure?
    I'm having a problem in choosing a paint that is non toxic and also protects the wood from humidity and in addition is resistant to scratches from the tegu..

    Hi great looking tegu, and cage!! im really thinking about getting one. and would make a cage for her. i prefer a female, we have one at out pet shop and they have no idea if its a male or female. they let me try and hold it but... it was really wiggly, and i dont know how much presure i can put on it so i put it back. they feed it in its cage which i read was not good. i also read u can overwelm the tegu if the cage is too big? so if i got a baby do i keep her in an aquarium then upgrade?

    Hey, I really like this set up and everything, and don't want to sound like an arse, but noticed that you said she didn't like to be touched to much, and when you stroked her over her shoulders, kinda realised why, tegu's see being touched on their backs and sides as a threat, but they love having their heads stroked :D don't know if you knew that already but if you didn't :)
