- This is part one of my two part care video. I tried to shorten it as much as possible. This should be pretty helpful BUT never let one source be the only source that you rely on as far as information. You are encouraged to seek other sources and I'll post other care guides, videos, websites down below. The video is broken up into different parts so I will post times that correspond with certain topics so you can skip if you like. [Please Read More]

Thanks Repidemic, i can't wait for part two. Such a perfectly executed and informative video!
Thanks so much for the upload Repidemic. Can't wait for part two. Once again a perfectly executed video.
In all seriousness though, I really enjoyed your video about Argentine Tegus. I'd say it was the best one I've seen, very informative, good voice and the video quality was nice and focused. I really enjoyed it and for some reason, when you were going on the diet I was thinking that maybe I should re-view both of my dragons green diet.
Hopefully I can own one of these some day. They really are wonderful lizards
Good job man! :)
some tegus get spooked when they're taken to high from the ground. Try keeping him low to the ground then slowly work your way up. Some never get used to it.
Thanks a ton appreciate your comment. Glad you get something from the videos. They are great lizards indeed as are dragons :)
Agreed, my tegu just last week didn't like heights, Now he chills on top of my head daily
Good video, you covered a lot of great info, well said. Nice looking Tegu, you picked a good one. Enjoy.
I have too many years with snakes, it's time for me to switch sides for the next decade or 3, some Tegus, and maybe some Gilas for me soon, but I'll have to relocate due to the Gilas. Once a "herper" always a "herper" !
Thanks for struggling through it to see the informative side
Definitely. I love reptile vids of all kinds
Man you've got an awesome radio voice
Thanks for the interest :)
No it was still a perfect basking spot but I was cleaning it at the time, forgot to mention that in the video I guess ha
Thanks for requesting it!
If you forcefully yank them from the substrate yes. Depends on how old they are and your specific relationship to the lizard. All of these "rules" are not simply black and white there are gray areas
I would love to but I'd honestly have to deconstruct and reconstruct one to show exactly how to build it. I'll see what ideas pop up though.
@Repidemic im actually going to a reptile expi today. i was goi ng to put up footage and then a pickup video. i will try to have it all up tonight if ur interested.
Didn't mean to post like five comments by the way. When i tryed posting them it said error so i didn't know they all got posted :>
Honestly I normally buy a lot of superworms and keep them which costs about 30 bucks and it can last for a month or so. Factor fruit and raw meat here and there maybe 10-15 dollars. They can eat lots of what humans eat as far as ground beef/turkey/chicken/eggs/fruit so it shouldn't be so bad.
I appreciate this video! Thanks for being so detailed. Its helping to aid my decision in deciding if this will be the right pet for me, what it takes to own a tegu.
Me and my boyfriend currently have a chameleon and a blue tongue skink at our house, so looking to potentially take on another (our last) commitment.
Good information! I love your channel :)
It sounds a a little warm but I'm not sure where you live; it's pretty hot in LA since summer is coming up so i'm guessing those temps will drop a bit after summer. Also you could try adding a little extra ventilation on that side or misting that side a bit more.
yes i wanted to see one of these.
I actually did not build these two but i'll inbox you some instructional links/videos
thank you for the information im going to get one of these ive been doing lots of research on this lizard my grandma dose not like lizards and im trying to change her thoughts and show her how responsible when i get it and its just a baby im going to put it in my old cage and when it gets bigger im going to build a big out door cage and bring it inside out night
I've seen most online for around 150 before shipping. I'm not sure of anyone selling them now but you can always google tegu classifieds or check craigslist if no breeders have them. Check teguterra
of course!
Thx so much this was really helpful
Great video! Very helpful :D
I didn't get a tegu but i did get a snake (they had no tegus at this expo). If you're interested i could make a video.
thank you man, I'd appreciate it.
thanks :) glad to help
I have a very deep voice and I don't particularly like to change the tone of it but if you want to watch a video where people focus on tone then youtube some music covers :]
I'm sorry i'm confused which links are you talking about? There are links posted in the description if you hit "show more."
Thanks!
Glad it helped :)
could please do a video how to make a similar enclosure
Thanks very much. Gilas will be awesome :)
Good video man
thanks a lot!
could you say what all the materials you used to build your terrarium are and how you built it? either in a comment or if it's too long could you make a vid? thanks. beautiful tegu btw. :)
thanks!!
I have a, maybe 6-7 month old B&W Tegu and whenever I pick him up he always try's to jump out of my hand. How can I get him to calm down?
I hand/tong feed my tegu so I don't have food bowl
im look for a uvb fixture that can bolt onto a wall dose anyone have any sugestions
Thanks thanks
awesome name
Wait tegu yawns!?!?! AWWW:3
What about greens like kale an collard?
Hey bro, I was hoping for some advice. I finished building my tegu cage, have the lighting & everything set up. My basking spot reaches to about 110 degrees which is good but the cool side is about 90-92 degrees during the day. I'm thinking it's a little too warm on that side or is that okay? if not. I don't really know how to make the cool side a little bit cooler. Much appreciated.
How many sheets of melamine did you use to build this enclosure
Good vid
Hopefully she knows how big this one will get
hey man i noticed you dont have your tile for the basking spot did it get to hot for hom to get on?
How much do you think it cost to feed your tegu each week??
How much do young tegus cost and where can I get one?
what %UV do B&W Tegus need?
thanks :)

Can attest to the stench of Bearded Dragon poo. My Beardie Drake used to have the most rancid smelling shits. He died a year or so ago =_( I've been looking a lot into what kind of reptile I want to adopt now, and Tegus are really starting to appeal to me.
Raptormann0205 a tegu is not a good second pet, tegus are a very advanced lizard.
What size enclosed should I build for my baby tegu that he can live in for life and also what kind of wood should I use?
4 by 2 by 2
+Jacob Marcum he was asking for one it could live in for life, so a 4x2x2 is probably not a good option. You should probably build at least a 6x3x3 (preferably 8x4x4), but start the baby in a 40 gallon breeder, because for some reason when they start out in huge enclosures they can get stressed.
ha thanks!
I hate to ask but where did you buy your black and white tegu at i'm looking online but nothing
Ravage Rezinick Underground Reptiles are one of the biggest Tegu Breeders. They dont have any in stock now, but around July I think eggs hatch
Back water reptiles
Jacob Marcum No, never buy any kind of reptile from Backwater Reptiles. They're known for sending dead animals, plus even though they say the sell cbs, it's been proven that they sell all wild caught animals.
Tbh underwater reptiles has cheap ones and so does reptile shows, super shows are best show wise though
Underground*
Why should they not be fed avocado ?
+heidbrain because avocados are super high in fat
Actually avocados are toxic
do you have eco earth brick or normal sack and if you have normal sack does it work the same way as the brick
it really dosent matter theyre the same, but when u use the brick it is more moist when u apply it to the tank but u can simply spray the sack when its in the tank, but bricks last a lot longer and for my leopard geckos, and crested gecko, and my two tegus it works great and the three brick combo for all these last about half a year and if I'm lucky up to a year, a sack will fill a fourty gallon easily a brick will last a fourty gallon atleast 5-8 cleanings
you can also make it last even longer if u just spot clean poop from the substrate
and when u use it for tegus especially its good to mix with something else like Cyprus mulch to help the humidity stay down a small bit because pure eco earth can keep a tank humid easily and with Cyprus mulch it imitates the area from argentine
Kid1523Plays! ok thanks! :) but when you say mix it do you mean one layer eco and one layer cyprus mulch or do you simply mean blend them together? :)
I mean blend, plus it makes it look cool too XD if you have any more questions feel free to ask
lol it's cool
I found this kinda hard to watch. You very monotone. Great information though
