as a keeper of nile monitors and tegus myself i would highly recommend listening to this video this is good advise
I think its incredible that you start out with that size enclosure for your baby tegus and move them into something bigger when they're adults. I've seen so many adults in a 4x2, you really cant go wrong giving them as much space as you can!
I agree I’ve had my tegu 11 months now when he was a baby i had this same theory about the humidity and shedding
Great! Works good!
Hey . New subscriber here. Interested in getting a tegu bit just doing my research to see if I can care for one . There needs to be more creators like us
Great! Let me know if you have any questions.
I followed your set up for my baby tegu, thank you!
Wonderful!
Great video love the information on the hatchling care those are some stunning gargoyle geckos those babies are going to be amazing 💪🏼🔥💪🏼
Thank you very much G Rated!
Thank you for all your videos. Your the reason mine are so healthy. Im hoping to buy a blue tegu from you soon. Just making room in my reptile room. I need to make larger enclosures for last years babies. Thank you again for sharing. Rick in Stockton CA.
@Dominique Gray I actually have a female purple and some black and white tegus
Hello Joey. Awesome care video. Congratulations on the gargoyle eggs hopefully they hatch. 😊
Thank you Tony! We have great success with the garg eggs, almost 100% hatch rate.
She is beautiful😍...thanks for the info.
my temp gun is my best friend!! i love him 💖 i even use it on my bp!
Man those gargoyle geckos are amazing!!! I gotta catch up on your videos from being on vacation but you’re definitely right about that temp gun!!
I also forgot to ask, did you build those 4x2x2s??
Yes I built them. Have another set of 4 in the garage.
Hope you had a good vacation!
Thank you so much for this!
Your welcome! Thank you for watching.
Theses videos are great!
Thank you so much Stephen!
A fan of your vlogs. Useful tips for me when it comes to my tegus. Would like to purchase a red tegu female from you too
Thank you for watching! Sounds great, we will have them available soon!
Thank you so much!
Great video great info
Appreciate it! Thank you for watching!
Hey! Just want to say thank you so much for all of your videos they are super helpful! About the basking temp, I’ve seen sites saying basking temp should be 110 for babies and 120 for adults. Is 115-120 basking temp good for both babies and adults. Thank you! Hope to purchase a baby from you sometime. ❤️
What flood light is that like brand etc. but great video.
What watt of floodlight would you recommend for a 3x2x2 this guy is only until I have my custom build viv ready great video btw
I don't think I will, but there is this gorgeous Tegu at petsmart (from a breeder) and he's been in there for over a month and they are my dream reptile. I'm just refreshing their care for them in case I decide to get him
You said working together to flip the water dish. Lol I picture a 3 on 3 tug of war over the dish. Rorrrr!! Lol My tegu dirties the heck out of his dish daily but at least it’s not smelly nor do I find any floaters. Great tip about having the basking slate flat to deter burrowing. I did and had it that way for around an hour when I had my Chacoan. Meaning the day I got em. Luckily I thought better of it and did what you said before I found out the hard tragic way.
They love to dirty their water!
Can you give an example or a photo of what flood bulbs you use? Im looking for my adult red
With the long outro I kept hoping for a sneak peek at a Tegu hatching. Hopefully we will see them come out into the world in the morning.
You got your wish haha!
It was so exciting!
Would a mercury vapor bulb work with a florescent light
What about in 40 gallon tank what would be the wattage on flood light bc I got light on top of cage so it isn’t hanging inside enclosure like yours
Maybe I missed it but what do you keep temps at. Mostly night temps I’ve read a lot of low 70s I’m keeping mine in my basement and it stays in the mid 60s should I put some low wattage heat source or should those temps of 65-67 be fine for night
Great video as always, but I a question how do you know if the tegu gets enough uvb if they burrow themselves most of the time
Thank you! I trust the tegu to know what it needs, I just make sure I am providing them with the option to choose.
Thank you
In your opinion what is the best humidity for the enclosure?
I am trying to pick between a red, or a black and white argentine tegu. Can you tell me what you see as the major differences, beyond color?
How long do you think it’s safe to leave the ground turkey in the tegu enclosure before taking it out?
Thanks for the information!! Hope i can get a set up soon!! I don't think you said what calcium powder you use at least in this video lol.
I use Repashy Calcium plus. It is a calcium and vitamin combo that works great. I can give you a link to a seller if you need to order some.
Yeah that be awesome!! I've been looking for a good powder. Someone told my it's better to get water soluble calcium with d3 and soak them in it every day for 15min but idk if he knew what he was talking about and I couldn't find it lol.
How long/large are they typically in that size enclosure for?
Muito bom parabéns ❤️😍
Hi Joey. I'm New to owning a tegu lizard and even though I am aware that they are not begginer level pets I wish to know exactly what species of region he or she is. It's a beautiful lizard.
So I’ve seen people say 130 degrees for basking temps. I always thought that seemed off. I run 115. When I switched my year old to his 8x4 he prolapsed basking and the temp was 130. Didn’t think that was the issue bc it’s “within range” well a day later he did the same thing. Ended up adjusting it back to 115 and it hasn’t happened in over a week. I’m now certain 130 degrees for a basking temperature is wayyy too hottt
Mini dinos getting ready to hatch
Is that recommended size for one bby? I just got one yesterday and is currently in a 24 1/2 L by 12 1/2 wide 14h post quarantine tank coco substrate and mister since he's sheding planning to move to a 40 to 50 gallon just wanted know I'm not causing him any harm by keeping him in that size tank post quarantine ?or should I move him out of that immediately
I rescued a tegu 2 weeks ago age unknown and very feisty how do I help with tame and him or her trusting
How many watt bulb should I get for the floodlight?
How long would this setup keep a baby tegu?
can I put cocopeat substrate alon for my tegu?
so do you keep the light on 24 hrs a day or at night take it off?
Can a baby tegu be around bigger tegus or do they have to be kept separate
wonderful video. I am waiting on my tegu to mature a little but i have an adult enclosure ready to go for him. is it okay to put a baby straight into an adult enclosure?
You can but they can get a bit lost in there and may hide from you more.
What bulb do you use?
Do you like using eco Earth for bedding and to help with the humidity
Not my favorite, I dont use it but it can work.
Hola Asad no se equivocó tienes animales geniales
I was wondering where u get ur stackable enclosures
Built them
Do you think a 40 gallon breeder is fine for a baby
Where do u get that rock just wondering do I need a basking rock or that’s just something they lay on
I get them from landscape places around the area as well as lowes. I like using a stone because it holds heat well but it's not a must.
Opinion on fog machines for providing humidity
They have their place and can work well
Hey new sub here, I absolutely love your channel and dream of a farm one day, but for now I'm doing all the research I can and didn't really like what I was seeing, until God blessed me to run into you channel, and I will be buying all my tegus from you until you retire, so two questions and I pray I get an answer but one do you have a video of your build on indoor enclosures, I seen all your outdoor but I'm in Chicago so that won't work as for now, too many theives, two what's the best way to connect with you, here, email or Facebook, I ask because I plan on being the very best as a keeper, not going to overwhelm you tho lmbo I'm sure that's a thing but no just general beginners questions here and there
im trying to get a tegu and i really am having trouble finding what exactly lights I need uvb and heat if anybody can help. (enclosure is 11x3.5 ft.)
For heat use a flood light on a dimmer so you can adjust to get the temperature perfect. As far as uvb there are several options. I like the reptisun 10.0 florescent.
I just got a 65 watt flood light bulb recommended but it’s not getting hot or putting out heat at all, it’s just a regular light…Is there a certain type of flood light? Halogen? Other type?
Sounds like you may have gotten a L.E.D. light. They don't produce any heat.
About how old (how many months) would you need to move your baby tegu from a 4'x2'x2' enclosure to a larger enclosure?
Depends on the growth rate. Typically around 6 months to a year.
hey im a new subscriber i wanted to know the price of your tegus
Do you leave the heat on constantly with the exception of brumation?
The lights go off at night
What kind of wood did you use to build yeah encloser?
PT pine
I was born on April 30
I have a enclosure question I'm building a enclosure for my 2 black and white tegus they are out growing the one they are in not sure what is a safe non toxic water sealer and silicon that is best to use any tips would be appreciated
You want to paint with drylock. It will make it last forever. And use silicone for your seams.
Awesome thank you what type of silicon do you use?
How long can you keep a baby in that size before the adult enclosure?
They grow at different rates
I have a question I’m new to your channel so I don’t know if you answers this question before but is this a good first reptile pet or is there a better one
a bit late but i wouldnbt get a tegu for ur first reptile since they get 4 feet and u just need some experience first
@@jdandkikisExotics thanks for the advice what do you recommend I start with
@@yodaben5933 ill send u a link for some good first reptiles

Hello, do you only need to have the basking light and UVB or do you need any other heat source?
Just basking and uvb. No other heat is needed.
@@RoseCityReptilesTX thank you
ANYONE get the substrate that he used?????
Hello, which night temperatures do you use for the red tegus?
Typical indoor temperature is good. 65-75 Fahrenheit. They don't need any supplemental night heat.
@@RoseCityReptilesTX
Thanks, I had them at 78-80. I will put them lower. Regards
So what kind of lighting do you use? Brand?
for ubv I use reptisun 10.0 and for the flood I use a bulb from walmart or lowes.
@@RoseCityReptilesTX ok thanks.
What do you do for heat at night?
The reptile room is heated to 80 so no need for any additional heat

Did I click on a different video?
Do you have a timestamp for the tegu information?
Love your videos! My female seems to be very nervous. I’ve had her about 2 weeks now and she getting more comfortable with me hand feeding her with tongs but I still can’t really hold her without her freaking out. I try not to wake her up in the evenings because the last time I did she bit me. She’s in an 8ft enclosure right now because the only other size I had was a 10 gallon. She has she’s twice since I got her as well. She’s eating well, kind of running towards the glass now where before I had to go slow and put it right in front of her face. I don’t want to rush her but was wondering if you had any tips for getting her used to being handled or getting her to trust me more?
I have a video on handling your new and young tegu. Check it out and that may answer some of your questions.
Sorry! I just realized you commented on the video I referred you to lol. My bad. Just get in there and handle her, the more you do it the better she will get.
Ok! I just hope she relaxes. Don’t want her to bite me every time lol
@@tiffthelittleone she will! But it definetly wont get easier as she gets older. Now is the time to work on it
Thanks so much! Gotta force her to love me! 😂
いや、ガーゴイル柄エグイな!
If the tegu is warm blooded, why do they need such a high basking temperature?
They are cold blooded
@@RoseCityReptilesTX what I heard must have been misinformation of a partial truth. Science has read the entire salvator merianae genome and has found that they are mildly endothermic, with the capability to raise temperature about ten degrees greater than ambient temperature in mating season. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4737272/
I cannot find a lamp they are all spot as far as i can tell cant find any good source of info for a link to get a bulb that i know wont burn the animal. Someone send me a link please take my affiliate revenue!
