During this entire video, I was anticipating an adult or at least a juvenile to be introduced to his new kick ass setup. While surprised when I saw the little guy, I guess I wasn't disappointed. lol
Thank god, finally a video where someone has provided an adequate amount of space for a reptile! This made me so happy to watch. I've seen "professionals" adopt neglected reptiles, only to subject them to same type of environment. So happy to have found this video. It really does restore my faith a wee bit. Great job guys, loving it.
Very nice! Love Animal Plastics enclosures. We have 2 T-20s, with another one on order and an A-25 on order for our monkey tailed skinks. Can't beat their customization options. The only down side is the wait time, but most people already know that going into the ordering process. Thanks for sharing! 🦎👍
I bought the 8ft beast enclosure from Dragonhaus! I actually assembled it, by myself. It was a bitch to do, but possible. I am 5ft 3! I would NOT suggest anyone to assemble an enclosure this size, by themselves!!! I thought I was going to snap the top in half when putting it on! All bad!! I dropped it on my leg, it slid down my leg, and cut me up pretty bad. I ended up looking like I had an extra ankle, that was on my right foot!! It is enormous! I have it in my bedroom, beside my bearded dragon's enclosure! The new enclosure only has visibility in the front, so it doesn't stress out my beardie, Bowzer! My tegu, Daizya is a beast! Her current enclosure is is 8ft tall 4ft wide and 6ft long. I don't like it, because it is so tall and it makes her feel uneasy. I sit down on the floor before engaging with her in that enclosure, so she is at eye level with me and doesn't think I am a predator swooping down to get her!! I just need to install the lighting, so I can finish the interior, "decorating!"
Thank you for the amazing video, i just wanted to ask do you have a humidifier to constantly maintain 60-80% humidity? And shouldnt the hygrometer be kept in the middle of the enclosure to be a bit more accurate? Would really appreciate your reply🙏
Hey so after seeing your video we decided to go with an ap cage for our blue tongue skink, but I needed some clarification! Do the cages come default with inside mounted lights or is there something I need to select to get that??
I honestly forget. I would call AP and ask. They are very helpful. I modified this from the original design so I forget which aspects were standard and which were not.
How big this enclousure? I wanted to ask once, why is the hide place under the warming place? I think that doesnt provide some different temperature zones for the tegus!
Looks fantastic. My only comment would be to possibly anchor the rocks or go all the way to the bottom. One that side could burrow under the large one and if it shifted could be an issue. Overall it looks fantastic though!
Yeah I have thought about that in regards to the rocks. Not sure how to anchor them though. I figured he will be growing quickly and once he is bigger the rocks should not be an issue.
OK Professor, that doesn’t sound too bad. How is it to clean, is it hard to get all the way in the back is it not a big deal to take care of all that substrate?
I would say it is somewhat difficult to get into the back of the enclosure. More so just uncomfortable but doable. Making the enclosure bioactive, at least semi with isopods and such, will help with cleaning.
Hey Dr. can you give an update on the T 100, how is it handling? How do you like it since you’ve had it for a while? How is it to clean? How does the tegu like it?

I really like the unit. AP makes good enclosures. I definitely think you could achieve much of the same with a grow tent (which is much cheaper) but if you have some extra money the look and feel of the T100 is much better and more appealing.

@@ProfessorHerp Oh, good! Maybe you can plant things he'll eat? I just think the extra oxygen might be a good addition, but you can experiment with that when you want!
@@ProfessorHerp plant nerd (and reptile lover) here, was just thinking about how great it would look if you got some command hooks or hooked suction cups and hung some pothos in there. It's a very easy vining plant , and you can keep the vines up and out of the way of reptilian destroyers. Some other plant options would be bromeliads (like neoregelia) that you could mount on cork and hang to keep them out of Frappuccino's way (adorable name, btw). Just make sure you get them from somewhere like Josh's frogs so they don't have pesticides on them!
Im looking into getting my own Animal Plastics enclosure for my tegu, since he's going to need a full size enclosure within the next 1-2 years (he's still small an currently in a 40 gallon breeder tank). Sad cat for a baby no you don’t have to get something. Hi Prof, I'm looking at getting a female tegu myself in the future using a 6x3x3, I was just wondering if I could still use the 14% UV lights or would it be better to drop down to a 12%? Also could you explain why you use a basking light and a flood light? Thank you, great video btw👌
Hi Royce! If you do not have a solarmeter to measure uv, use Arcadia's distance recommendations: 12%: 12"-15" from the reptiles back, 14%: 15"+ from reptiles back. Is your second question about using the uv light+floodlight? I did that for a bit to increase uvb at the basking spot but all sockets are now floodlights: ruclips.net/video/jlCvBt264vI/видео.html

That cage isn't too big for such a little guy? I was always under the impression to big of enclosures may stress the animal. Anyways I'm thinking about getting the T3 from Animal plastics. I don't think there's a enclosure building company out there that can compete with Animal Plastics. Their price is by far the lowest and they make excellent enclosures. Only negative is their long lead time. I spent a lot of time looking around recently and no one compares to them. As for the enclosure size, a 8x4x4 is relatively small for a Tegu enclosure. I would say that is the minimum. Obviously when I put him in here he was tiny, but there's no reason the space should stress them out. He shot up in size pretty quick as well from this time. I usually put most of my animals into their adult enclosures pretty quickly as babies. Maybe a couple weeks in something smaller to observe their behaviors. Sometimes I'll go longer but nothing extreme.
I thought I said something in the video but if not, they send you sealant to use. Just seal all the seams except the top. Some people will only go half way up the sides as well.
@@ProfessorHerp you need to seal the entire enclosure including the top as that is where most heat humidity escaes and you can use cork or rubber stopper drilled through, cut in half and then placed over the cord and pushed into the hole. that way you can adjust without having to reseal .

A lot of reptiles use rough surfaces (really any surfaces but rough surfaces are most helpful) to rub off their shed.
