    Was told by a shop to force hold them for a few minutes until they stop freaking out. As soon as I did. Freaked out my juvenile sav and hissed and squirmed away and didn’t let me at him again. Feel like I messed up bad. But I’ll have to be patient and hope for the best with this method

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  4 года назад +1

      That method has worked for some. Not my preferred one though. Do not like the idea of trust, respect, bonding starting with force. Patience is the key.

    • @ataraxia9134

      Professor Herp ok thanks! I did not like him squirming from my hands. So starting over and trying more hands off tactics

    What kind of lizard was that that jumped up onto your lap? The white one?

    What if the monitor lizard thinks it's prey on my fingers? How do I teach a monitor lizard that my fingers are not prey?
    (This is a video that has been around for quite some time, but I would be very happy if there was a reply.)

    How often do they shed?

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  2 года назад

      depends on a lot of factors. A lot as babies/juvs...much less as they age

    i caught a wild lizard and is it possible to tame it?

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  4 года назад +1

      Nothings impossible, but taming a wild lizard is going to be much more difficult than a captive born in the general sense. A lot more factors though that will weigh into that (species, age).

    • @jaredramirez8850
      @jaredramirez8850 4 года назад

      Professor Herp i actually made a bond with it in a few days and i let it on the ground and it followed me and when i take it out it’s cage it jumps on me and i’m so happy i was able to do it

    Is your dog named Thrall! Lok'Tar Ogar brother! I just got a savanna monitor, he is a squirley little fucker but that comes with the territory. I'm slowly letting him warm up to me. It'll take time but it's totally worth it.

      For The Horde! Hope you're enjoying Shadowlands (or preparing for tbc). Best of luck with the Savannah! Their husbandry scares me haha

      I'm having a blast with Shadowlands, my guild is working on mythic Nath, we are 8/10 so far. Stone Legion Generals is about as hard as getting this monitor to not bite me haha.

      @@Ballacaust11B I am focusing on pvp this xpac with a friend. Just dont have the time to commit to a raid schedule haha. May stream some WoW though over the next few months while I have some extra down time! AMAZING comparison there! haha!

      @Ballacaust11B 3 года назад

      I totally get that man. Between the army, the animals and my raid schedule I have no extra time haha. I'd definitely watch you stream dude, that would be rad. If you ever find you want to start raiding message me, I'm sure we can get you in on some Mythic re-clears after we get CE.

      Also I got an update on the Savvie, I got him checked, he is definitely wild caught but luckily parasite free. Ive got an uphill battle making a friend of this little dude. I already started on building an 8×4×4 monitor mansion for him lol.

    Hi I bought in ackie around a month ago, he was three months old, and he loved to be handled and to explore, he used to eat so much and used to be so excited when eating, but out of nowhere recently he’s been extremely scared of me he’s not been basking he’s always constantly hiding and won’t eat like he used to. I don’t know if it’s because he’s frightened because of my dogs as he is in closures on the floor and my dogs are quite curious of him. Or if it’s because of his age and him having a phase. I don’t know what to do because he’s losing weight and he is extremely frightened of me even though I try my best to make sure he knows I’m not going to hurt him but it doesn’t help when he runs away. I don’t know if I’m ever gonna make progress. Please help

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  4 года назад +1

      Babies will do that. They will typically be very shy and suspicious of anything that moves until adulthood (8-12 months). Totally normal. I would move him up from the floor though. Dogs will probably not help bring them out. Privacy as babies will be helpful. And keep working on bonding with them. Keep offering food, only if they are sick they will stop eating. Should come around to the food if he is fine. He going to the bathroom normal and such?

      Professor Herp I’ve covered up his enclosure glass with a towel for now, I’m gonna move him off the ground pretty soon, I’m leaving crickets in his enclosure and I think he’s hunting them because they are disappearing slowly. But he has no interest in insects that hold infront of him when he used to literally jump at them and drag them across his hide. I peep through the towel I put on his viv, and he’s basking but if he spots me he will run. And I haven’t seen any poo recently no

    I've had a juvenile ackie for four months now and I figured out a method for getting her used to my hand that DOES involve touching that seems to have worked really well for getting her used to me so far. I bring her out and keep her inside of one of my pockets with my hand blocking the way out, my fingers spread to widen the inside of the pocket. My body heat makes the pocket warm and when the hand is there she will curl up inside underneath it and sleep since she's getting body heat from all angles in a small, dark space. She now seems to recognise my hand palm down with fingers spread out as somewhere to wriggle into and hide and even buries her face in between and curls her tail around my fingers for security. It really did cause her taming progress to come along leaps and bounds after a lot of medical procedures made her more scared and it's something I'll definitely keep trying with her. She even seems to put her front legs up on my hand waiting for me to turn it over because she likes it in that way she can sleep under it. This might just be her because every ackie is unique but this definitely helped her to get used to my smell and start seeing my hands as less of a threat a lot faster than if I probably just left her alone.

    Hey my gf and i just got an ackie who's allegedly about 3 years old, it's growth was stunted and it's also missing all of its toes. If it really is 3 years old, what would you recommend for taming/bonding? We handled him at the pet store and a little bit before putting him in his new enclosure and he is very flighty. What should we do?

  • @dinogirl_

    I 100% agree with you my baby ackie I can see his super curious about me but his still unsure, since his 7months old I want to make sure all the interactions at this age are on his terms until he is comfortable with me. I was a trust bond not a have to put up with bond

      Respect is a super important trait in any reptile-human relationship. The amazing thing about Ackies is while they are cautious when young, they grow into the most curious of reptiles!

    hey idk if u will see this but i have a blue tongue skink that i got when i was 14, and being an idiot i really made a negative impression on him, like realllllly bad, is it stil possible for him to change his mind on me? i know it will be a lot harder but it is possible right?

    • @nutcracker4694
      @nutcracker4694 4 года назад +1

      if u are wondering how i did things at first i would basically just chase him around the enclosure and then handle him thinking he would notice how he isnt dead and be like "i guess its not that bad" because that worked for my snake, but obviously, it really didnt work for my skink lol this dude hates me

    My ackie is about a year old and I've had him since febuary but he still doesn't come to me when I try to get him used to me, he doesn't hide but he doesn't come to me either, I'm kinda insecure about how to progress from here, do I just keep waiting for him to come to me?

    Love your channel man. I currently own a pair of 8 month old red ackies (I'm pretty sure one is male and one female). The female has been very easy to work with. The male...is absolutely spastic. I'll be sure to give this method a try. I'm hoping that time will calm him down a lot, since they're still quite young. I love how curious and playful your ackies are, I really hope mine turn out like that! Great job!

      Thank you Paul! Happy to hear this video helped you out! Ackies are very rewarding to keep. They will definitely calm down with age but this method will definitely help him relax in your presence. I always love how my Ackies come to greet me when I open up their enclosure.
