    They become sluggish/lethargic, they burrow and stay under for sometimes entire days and they will stop eating as much; you'll see a large decrease in appetite. Judging the time of year helps also so I believe most Tegus that were hatched out this year would be hibernating around now.

    I would offer her food right away to see if she takes it but since you saw her eat i'm sure it's no problem. Congrats on getting a tegu :)

    Wish all your videos on the tegu was all together in one channel without the other stuff you posted

    Not necessarily but I think it's natural for them to hibernate. Within the entire species there are probably some that just won't do it but I think instinctually they will.

    I got my blk & wht at 2 yrs old 2 yrs ago and he hasn't burmated yet. He has slept for 6 days at most. He free roams when i'm home and poops in the lid of a christmas wrap box. I just spend alot of time with him and his basking light is in front of his enclosure. Not real sure why he doesn't burmate but I feel lucky. He was almost 18 lbs but has lost almost 5. He quit eating, I thought he was going to sleep but it's been 3 months with hardly eating. Vet analyzed his blood and ALL things are normal so??? Any ideas how to get him eating again? I've tried many different things and both raw and cooked . . . Ideas?

      Unless you want to keep your house at a very high humidity you should need an enclosure.

    how do you replica day and night do you just turn off the heat or do you put in a red bulb or is there any type of heat going on

    • @cmcmillan22
      @cmcmillan22 7 лет назад

      they don't bask at night, so if you have an under tank heater it usually stays warm enough. it's fully OK for the temps to drop at night as that's a natural heat cycle. if you have a larger tank you can use a night bulb or a ceramic element if you're worried about to low temps at night.

    RUclips didn't notify me of this comment. Does he still have mites? A quick way to kill them is to soak the lizard in vegetable oil (keep it out of the eyes) for 10-15 minutes and then rinse him off and you'll need some mite disinfectant to take care of the enclosure. Most likely all new bedding as well
