They become sluggish/lethargic, they burrow and stay under for sometimes entire days and they will stop eating as much; you'll see a large decrease in appetite. Judging the time of year helps also so I believe most Tegus that were hatched out this year would be hibernating around now.
isnt it brumate not hibernate? they still feed and what not, just a drastically reduced amount for the duration while they "rest"? awesome vids man keep it up
Not necessarily but I think it's natural for them to hibernate. Within the entire species there are probably some that just won't do it but I think instinctually they will.
I got my blk & wht at 2 yrs old 2 yrs ago and he hasn't burmated yet. He has slept for 6 days at most. He free roams when i'm home and poops in the lid of a christmas wrap box. I just spend alot of time with him and his basking light is in front of his enclosure. Not real sure why he doesn't burmate but I feel lucky. He was almost 18 lbs but has lost almost 5. He quit eating, I thought he was going to sleep but it's been 3 months with hardly eating. Vet analyzed his blood and ALL things are normal so??? Any ideas how to get him eating again? I've tried many different things and both raw and cooked . . . Ideas?
Hi, i just came your video and i enjoyed it, i owned one of f each, a Black and White, Blue and Big Red lol you seem to know te same as i do and snd i like the way you speak, calm and clear. also i owned a Water Monitor which i still have and a Black Throat which ill sell only cus she eats twice as much as the water and my pitbull combined lol im going broke on foiod , i was thinkiung about getting them again and cross breeding if i can figure it out. and may i sau, my animals NEVER wnt into a hybernate, if you can keep the temp up all they did slow a nit but still hand fed them evem mu full grown Water. they can tell between your hand and food and tegus will come when called. year they wont fi down, i fed mine all year but
they don't bask at night, so if you have an under tank heater it usually stays warm enough. it's fully OK for the temps to drop at night as that's a natural heat cycle. if you have a larger tank you can use a night bulb or a ceramic element if you're worried about to low temps at night.
RUclips didn't notify me of this comment. Does he still have mites? A quick way to kill them is to soak the lizard in vegetable oil (keep it out of the eyes) for 10-15 minutes and then rinse him off and you'll need some mite disinfectant to take care of the enclosure. Most likely all new bedding as well
Wow, you're so smart!!! How did you know that I have no clue about reptiles? I mean.. that's exactly why I have so many of them! Go on, please tell me more of "what I don't know".

has he ever dumped on your keyboard?
How Much Mulch Is Needed?
my blue tongue has mites. do u know how to kill them fast and easy.
do they have to hibernate?
could you cage off a small part of a room and he lives there
as long as there's a basking spot yeah
Unless you want to keep your house at a very high humidity you should need an enclosure.
how do you replica day and night do you just turn off the heat or do you put in a red bulb or is there any type of heat going on
