Indoor Tegu Enclosure Walkthrough

  • Going more into detail on my yearling 1.1 Tupinambis merianae enclosure. I added some features compared to the last video I made. This is how I keep mine indoors. Come summer I will make another video of their outdoor enclosure.
    This is suitable for my yearlings but I will eventually have to upgrade to a larger indoor enclosure. The next size will be an 8x4x3 ft (LxWxH). The outdoor enclosure will be 10x10 ft.
    This species requires a lot of room so make sure you can provide that before purchasing!
    I would just like to point out that most people do not use Mercury Vapor bulbs and fluorescents simultaneously. If done improperly you risk having your reptile exposed to too much UVB. I have a Solarmeter 6.2 and can properly measure the outputs. If you're going to use a fluorescent, I advise using regular halogens or spot bulbs to provide the heat. Do the research and learn what's best for you and your herps!

    your a good owner and I think the little condo you have built for them here is excellent. It's a hobby I have never considered but they are very sweet.

    You will be fine with either. As long as it's a T. merianae or T. rufescens you shouldn't have a problem with aggression.

    Go with a 100w to start. It should create the proper 110F degrees you need for the basking spot. Then monitor then ambient temps to be sure you have a proper heat gradient.

    you want to have lights in the cage and be about 95 degrees on one side ! argentine tegus are easier to tame but colombians are good tegus too ! i have 4 tegus right now and they are awesome i had a custom room built in my basment for them just cleaning it isnt fun

    Nice tank, I'm building a 6x3 in a couple of months for my 9 month old Tegu.
    When he's full grown I'll probably build an 8x6

  • @knifeguru350
    @knifeguru350 12 лет назад

    @Cora452 this is actually his temperary setup two tegus need a 10 feet by 10 feet enclosure for one tegu this would be the absolute minimum for a tegu. The cage is about 300 and you need a 110-115 degree basking temp, it doesnt suck to clean a big cage just time consuming i currently have this exact cage for my tegu

    i know, i have large animals like tegus, they need more room than just enough to turn and just enough to sit. they need as much room to move around as possible. the tail does take up room which they also need space for.

    The bark scent is going to be hard to get by. Try finding Cyprus multch or some other sort of hardwood tree. Make sure it doesn't have any ceder or pine in it.

  • @Mr.JoeBrennan
    @Mr.JoeBrennan  15 лет назад

    @sk8ergangsta2003 No, with proper research you can use UV well indoors. However the best for any reptile is natural sunlight. Always try to provide time outside. Under the tank heaters worthless for tegus in my opinion.

    Does it suck cleaning something so big? Was it a super expensive cage? What kind of temperature lighting do u use. Is a cage like that NEEDED? or just preferred?

  • @LarissaLurid
    @LarissaLurid 12 лет назад

    i'd say if you had a smaller one like a columbian it would be okay, but recommended is 8x4, at the smallest id go to 7x3 feet like i have for mine, but smaller cage means they definitely need a lot of time out of the cage to roam and not be all cramped up.
